I remember once, about a year after we got married, I was late home from work. Hubby was already home. When I got back he said he had put the potatoes on but didn't know what else to do. I had a look and the potatoes had been put in the pot, dirt and all LOL! Poor guy. He soon found out if you cook unpeeled potatoes, that they NEED TO BE CLEAN emoticon

Ray. Loved to cook. No he was just a country boy. But fried potatoes and onions, omelets, biscuits, bacon, sausage. He made me fat....just couldn't walk away from it.

My late hubby couldn't cook other than frying eggs and sausages and opening up a can of baked beans or spaghetti LOL!

All sounds good to me. Seems like I don't cook as much as I used to. When my husband was alive we had big meals every morning and night. He would cook breakfast and have it ready when I got home from work at 7AM. I cooked supper. Worked out well.

If I've bought a really big pumpkin on a good special, I sometimes cook some of it up and mash it for the freezer. By doing that it doesn't alter the taste/texture whereas freezing it unmashed, or uncooked more often than not, does.

I cooked up my beef casserole and my bolar beef roast today. Figured I may as well and use one lot of electricity to do it (saves money.) I had the roast for dinner, and will freeze the rest later, and the casserole I am having tomorrow night for dinner. I put the other 6 serves in the freezer.

Yes I did it to the tune the whole song. Someone was really imaginative. I love it. When was the last time you heard "Mack The Knife" ? Been a long time for me. Glad you got out to the store and wow you got some good buys. I never thought about cooking up potatoes, mashing them and freezing them. But I guess it makes sense. Thanks for a new idea. So glad you were able to sneak in a visit, know it was good for all of you.

I love that LOL!

Did you read it to the tune? I did ... all the way LOL!

I went to the supermarket for the first time in 5 weeks, today. I haven't needed to go and in fact, I STILL didn't need to go, however I have almost run out of baby shampoo which my Dr said to use to wash my eyes with because I have blepharitis which, if left, causes a lot of irritation and poorer vision re gunk. I also noticed online that they had bolar beef roasts going a LOT cheaper than normal, and I had run out of my 'essential' bananas, and quite a few other things I get normally were on a good special too, so off I went today. I got 2 fairly big roasts, plus some other meat on special, and loaded up with my fresh fruit/veggies and a few other things. I then went to the other supermarket in town and got my low carb potatoes because they, too, were on a good special, so I got 2 bags. When I have a lot of them I cook quite a few and mash some with parsley and parmesan and freeze in single serves, and some I mash with canned reduced salt corned beef, and freeze those, too. Some I also mash with canned Tuna, Tomato and Basil and Kumara (a sweet potato) and freeze those as well. I then snuck along to my daughter. We aren't supposed to be going to anyone else's place for another week, but I took a couple avocado and a few feijoas along to her. I went around the side of the house so no-one could see me go in, and had a cuppa with them. After next week when the Level 4 lock-down is reduced to Level 3 restrictions, I will officially be able to join their bubble. They are allowing that for people who live by themselves, but apart from that there won't be much change for me.

Apart from a couple days ago, I haven't been off my section since March 20th - a few days prior to lock-down. I only went out because I go the all-clear to go over to my Medical Centre to get my flu shot. I stopped off at the little grocery store on my way home and bought some more bananas, a head of broccoli and a kumara.

The weather has been nippy here the last few days - I've even resorted to wearing those below ankle sox, and soon I will be putting my slippers on 'cause my feet are getting a wee bit too cold.

Haven't checked in lately. Hope all are doing OK. Doing OK here. My county has had about 8 confirmed cases and no deaths. People have mostly been staying in. Weather has been all over the place. Rainy and cold, then sunny and hot then cold again. Just wait a minute the weather will change again. I do see people when I go to Walmart to pick-up groceries and to get gas but not many.

Other places have gotten rain but not in the northern regions where I am. Auckland's water supply is down to 52% on what it normally is for this time of year - people in my area and north are still buying in water and the Met Service said that we will continue to be drought for a while yet. There were 2 ex-tropical cyclones that had been forecast to give us rain, but it side-stepped us so we missed out. With everybody being at home washing their hands constantly, the water useasage has gone up for those on town supply. Fortunately my water tanks are still fairly full.

I was talking to my sister today. It was POURING straight down and when she opened her window it was sooo loud. She said they got about an inch in an hour. We had nothing here - just warm sunshine. We've only had dribs and drabs of LITTLE showers since about November. My neighbour had to buy water in again today.

It's a lovely autumn day here today. The sun is out and it is warm. My washing is taking no time at all to get dried.

Yes, family remaining safe and healthy is a blessing. If everyone abides by lock-down rules, and practices safe hygiene, then we WILL get through this.

Hugs xxx

WOW - you obviously had it pretty rough.

I don't plan on going anywhere for a month. I have tons of groceries and fruit/veggies to last me, in the fridge and in the freezer, plus some still able to be picked from the garden, and on top of that, my Guava trees have just started ripening, and they are delicious. They will last a good couple months, and in a couple weeks, my feijoas should be ripening too.

Pretty much the same everywhere. Just stay in and stay close. Monitor your health. If hi fever, respiratory problems get rough then time to call the Dr. I had the H1N1 influenza in 1989, It was real rough. Do not want to go through it again. I went to work, started feeling like a cold was coming on. I worked nights. I went home in the morning. Fell asleep, woke up with a fever of 104! Could not get it down. Aspirin, alcohol/water baths. Nothing helped. When my husband came home I told him I had to go to the hospital. I do not remember getting to the hospital. I was in and out of consciousness for 6-7 days. When I woke up I had lost 8 days. Not a good feeling. So I know what to do and when to call the Dr. I am hoping My family will be alright. We are all at risk.
Take care my friends.

I am well stocked except for the paper goods. Head is a little stuffy today. No fever, or sore throat. Just allergy I think. Drinking plenty of fluids, Resting. My Dr. is supposed to call me tomorrow for my routine scheduled visit. I will let him know how I feel. But I have respiratory treatments here, and O2. I have desire to go to the clinic or hospital. Way to many sick people there. Stay safe.

Yes - everyone stay healthy and safe.

I had a tally up the other day. I have enough of everything except fresh veggies to last me 3 months, but that isn't because I went crazy, but rather my pantry/fridge/freezer are always stocked like that and I rotate.

My guavas are ripening - I have 4 big bushes of them, and today I noticed one of them had ripe berries on them, so down the hatch they went LOL! My feijoas won't be too far away, I I am waiting to see how long it takes for my bananas to ripen. There is a huge bunch of them on the plant.

Hello friends. I hope are staying healthy during this. C-Virus. My sis, brother and I are all part of the 60 plus age group with multiple health issues. My sister and I have basically homeboud for health right now. My brother is staying in except when he has to go to the Dr. I did order some needed items from Walmart and then had them brought to the car. No toilet paper available. Common sense needs to come into play here. We need to stay home as much as possible. Wash hands, cover coughs wipe commonly touched items in the home. Stay positive. Get some exercise when possible and some fresh air if possible. I hope everyone stays healthy and we will get through this.
