I already had a feeling you might not have a problem with not snacking. If you like, join the challenge but add a goal for yourself that you like to work on so you'll get more out of it.

emoticon On another day of fabulous nutritarian eating, White! emoticon

I plan to join you in the no snacking May challenge, but I don't tend to snack between meals. I used to, but I heard Dr. Jason Fung explain that every time we eat, our pancreas releases insulin which, among other things, aids in fat storage. He says that's why having 5 small meals a day is not a good idea. It is also one of Dr. Fuhrman's nutritarian principles to eat in a hormonally favorable way. And snacking is not hormonally favorable. We need those "fasting" periods between meals. Even adding milk to coffee is enough to break a fast. So I'm really careful not to snack between meals.

I'm not sure how I'll do between May 22nd and June 5th. My son will be here for a visit and we usually go out quite a bit when he's here. But I probably still won't be snacking much between meals.

Thank you REJ for sharing. At least no one has to force the healthy stuff down your throat - as I am sure is the case with many people! LOL

I usually have my beans in my salad or soup at lunch. Then later on with the evening meal I can add more if I like.

You had another very good Nutritatian day! emoticon

I very much hope to see you join in the May challenge! Also if it's no challenge for you at all, maybe, to not eat snacks... Still I'd love your company!

Hi White. I can't say it's work, because I LIKE nutritarian food, but I'm still tempted by junk foods. Every time I walk into a grocery store, I have to determine to make wise choices. It's still a struggle. In other words, it wouldn't take 10 men to force a potato chip down my throat. LOL
Today, for example, I ate too much. But it was all nutritarian food. The salad I had this noon was too large, so I was not hungry for beans tonight. I did have some cooked brussel sprouts, but no beans. Even though I'm not hungry, and don't want to eat any more nutritious foods, I could easily eat bread, or snacks or sweets. I don't have to be hungry to eat those! I'm having a decaf coffee, then I will go brush my teeth and floss. The kitchen is CLOSED for the evening!

Minnie, if you do overeat on nutritarian foods, it won't cause as much damage as if you overeat on junk food or processed food. Of course, overeating on anything can cause weight gain instead of weight loss.

Have you tried frozen fruit? I think Dr. Fuhrman talks about it and that it 's okay to eat frozen fruit?

I do tend to stay away from non ETL foods. Since I'm so careful about not having them in the house, it's not too difficult. But I'm often tempted by non-compliant foods in the grocery store or elsewhere. As far as eating fruit goes, the quality and taste aren't that great at this time of year. I enjoy lots of fruit in the Summer and Fall.

LOL yes you just might be tempted to put bread under it! Though we have a saying in my language (Dutch):
"In geval van nood, Smaakt kaas ook zonder brood".
Translation: in case of an emergency, cheese will taste fine without bread. (In Dutch, it rhymes).

You're doing very well, REJ. And I suppose you manage to stay away from the 'non-ETL' foods? (Unlike me).
I wonder how come you miss the fruit now and then? I wonder how you do that: I could not go for ONE day without eating lots of fruit, I think eating the fruit is what enables me do eat all the other healthy stuff...

Thank you REJ! You met all the goals, AGAIN! YAY for you!

So far, my husband had agreed to not bring trigger foods into the house, except for chocolate sprinkles and jam, but he does keep those out of my sight, most of the time. (I do need to ask him now and then to remember to put them away).
He has not been eating 'real' cheese for several months but I have the impression he wants to go back to eating cheese. We agreed for the time being to at least get VEGAN cheese; I think that the vegan cheese will not cause those nasty cravings (fingers crossed).

I feel awkward having to ask him to take my needs into account like this, but I'm very thankful he's all right with it.

However cheese needs to be kept in the fridge and we can't lock the fridge.

emoticon White, you also did very well in eating your nutritarian foods today. But as you mentioned, it's possible to also consume foods that do not contribute to our goals. The "secret" to my success has been mostly to keep those foods OUT of the house. But I live alone, so it's easy to do. I know that some doctors (and chef AJ) recommend that when a spouse wants to buy non-conforming foods, those foods should be kept in a locked container, and out of sight. It seems a bit drastic, but it's a question of health, and if the spouse really understands that, they may be willing to comply. It also shows that you and I are not the only ones who struggle with the addictive nature of certain foods. If I have rice cakes or bread in the house, I eat too much of them. They call my name. Please don't get discouraged! Keep doing the best you can. emoticon

I manage to get in most of the required foods for the checklist but I feel terrible because I am overeating a lot (rice cakes, peanut butter, gluten free bread). I have huge cravings, not sure why. Maybe because I succumbed to the temptation of having cheese - I don't like to have it in the house but my husband seemed to have to have it... It's hard not to feel discouraged.

Boy, am I ever late checking in to this challenge. I've been out of the country, but fortunately in the middle east, the Nutritarian diet is their normal way of eating. I guess we in the US have some serious catching up to do. :)

1. Salad main dish: no, had 2 carrots instead
2. Half a cup of Beans: yes, kidney beans in soup and broad beans
3. Large serving Steamed green veggies: yes, spinach
4. 1 oz nuts/seeds: yes, sunflower seeds and flaxseeds in oatmeal breakfast
5. mushrooms and onions: yes, in my tomato sauce at night
6. Three fruits: yes, frozen peach and blueberries, half an apple and half an orange in my smoothie, some grapes

This is our challenge for April 2019: every day we'll report on how we did with the Nutritarian Checklist.

What does this mean: every day you try to meet every nutritarian guidelines. Regardless of whether you meet them all or not, you post here every day and share how you did.

So you copy the list below and add 'yes' or 'no' (or use an emoticon if you like) to each guideline to indicate if you managed to eat the required foods that day.

This is the checklist:
1. eat more salad (at least 1 salad as your main course, daily)
2. eat beans daily (at least 1/2 cup)
3. eat one large serving of steamed green veggies daily
4. eat at least 1 ounce of nuts & seeds daily
5. eat mushrooms and onions everyday
6. eat three fresh fruits daily
