I'm sorry that you were disappointed with the texture of the dried mushrooms. I know that they can be quite expensive. I wonder if the fact that they were dried could have something to do with the sinewy texture. The texture can vary quite a lot from species of mushroom to the other.

G: spinach, chinese cabbage, beet greens
B: hummus
O: onions in my salad
M: mushrooms in my cooked greens
B: mixed berries for dessert
S: brazil nuts

I tried the one type, the 'Judas' ears'. They are not 'hen of the woods', I have googled them, found pics. This is the 'Judas ears', no idea what they're called in English.

It was easy to use them (put in hot water and let soak and they got HUGE compared to their dry state). But I didn't like the texture, can't really say the taste struck me but the texture displeased me, very sinewy. They don't LOOK all that great, now that I've seen pics of them, either! So won 't buy those again.

Today:
G: greens in my smoothie and my salad - spinach and endives and a bit of kale
B: beans in my soup and for a 'snack' (peas) and in the eggplant stew (chickpeas)
O: onions in the soup and salad
M: mushrooms in the soup
B: berries after dinner
S: flaxseeds in my oatmeal breakfast

Cruciferous: a few radishes

It'll be interesting to see if you enjoy the dried mushrooms. It's always a challenge to keep fresh mushrooms fresh and have them on hand when we need them. Let me know how you like them.

G: beet greens, chinese lettuce, spinach
B: chili
O: onions in my chili
M: mushrooms in my chili
B: mixed berries for dessert
S: chopped nuts on my berries

Woo hoo! You got them all in!
I recently found a bag of dried mushrooms in my supermarket (they keep changing the products though so they may not have it in a few weeks). Usually I can only buy button mushrooms (white or brown ones) there. But these dried mushrooms included hen of the woods (I think they're called, in Dutch their name is Judas's ears... ) and shiitake.

Today so far:

G greens in my salad (lettuce) and spinach in my soup
B A little tofu in my soup
O Onion in my soup
M
B
S Flaxseeds in my breakfast

I'll fill in the rest later on today. Writing this down makes me realize I haven't had any beans, yet (counting tofu as beans though).

I'm not crazy about the way mushrooms are grown either. But Dr. Fuhrman recommends we eat them. He recommends we always cook them a bit first. And I don't dislike the taste. So I eat them. I like the fact that they are anti-angiogenesis.

G: large broccoli salad for lunch
B: chili for supper
O: onions in my salad
M: mushrooms in my chili
B: berries for dessert
S: 2 brazil nuts and a couple walnuts

G Greens in my smoothie and in the salad (iceberg lettuce)
B beans in my salad and tofu at night
O Onions in the salad and my soup

Cruciferous: radishes at lunch

Those mushrooms are harder for me to get in. Maybe because I am not very fond of them, I dislike that they are grown in manure...

Finally, I was able to come home before supper, so I ate at home. I was also able to stop and pick up some needed groceries on the way home. I'm learning that it's just as important to have the right foods on hand as it is to not have the wrong foods around.

G: romaine lettuce and chinese chabbage
B: 3-bean salad for supper
O: onions in my salad
M: mushrooms in my savoury oatmeal
B: mixed berries for dessert
S: 2 walnuts and 2 brazil nuts

I heard Dr. Esselstyn name the greens we should be getting every day and bok choy was one of them so it qualifies!

Today was not an on-track eating day for me. I ate off-plan and just couldn't seem to get back on track. emoticon
G: greens in my lunch salad
B:
O: in my lunch salad
M: in my morning oatmeal

Tomorrow will be quite challenging day because I will be eating lunch and dinner at someone else's house, so I won't have the same control over my food that I do at home. I'd better make breakfast a gbombs one!

Thank you for trying to post the recipe! That is weird indeed. I write blogs in Dutch sometimes and then there happen to be words sometimes that are swearwords in English, and the blog gets refused too. It's a machine I guess, that simply blocks access whenever a certain combination of letters is used...

Friday:
G Greens in my smoothie and bok choy in my evening dish - is bok choy considered 'greens'?
B Beans in my soup for lunch
O Onion and garlic in the dish (zucchini and bok choy with brown rice and a (processed!) sauce)
M Mushrooms in the soup
B
S flaxseeds in my breakfast

Cruciferous: bok choy, a bit of leftover frozen red cabbage

It's really weird. I tried several times to post Ann Esselstyn's savoury oatmeal recipe, but SparkPeople refuses to post it. I get a message that says: "No profanity allowed." Profanity? It's a recipe and doesn't contain any profanity that I am aware of! After several tries, I just gave up trying to post the recipe. It's bizarre.

That sounds delicious! You are really doing well on your GBOMBS! emoticon

I used to only eat sweet oatmeal because I had never heard of savoury oatmeal. But I just didn't feel satisfied. Most of the time I'd have eggs and toast for breakfast. (That's how I got so fat.) Then I saw a video in which Ann Esselstyn made savoury oatmeal. I tried some and found it very satisfying. Now it's my go-to breakfast. I make it with all kinds of vegetables (but my favourite is still kale) and other ingredients. The idea is to use oatmeal as you would any other grain like rice or quinoa.

Today's GBOMBS:
G: romaine lettuce salad for breakfast
B: beans for supper
O: onions in my salad and in my beans
M: mushrooms in my salad and in my beans
B: blueberries for dessert
S: flaxseed bread, 2 brazil nuts

No matter how slow you go, you are STILL lapping everybody on the couch.

I never tried savoury oatmeal. Do you eat that for breakfast? What makes it savoury?

Today:

G: greens in my smoothie (spinach) and in my salad (chinese cabbage), and cooked spinach for dinner
B: Beans in my salad at lunch
O: Some onion and leek in the soup
M:
B: blueberries!
S: flaxseeds and sunflower seeds in my oatmeal breakfast

Cruciferous; chinese cabbage and a few radishes

I am glad that even though I was very tired I did make a healthy meal tonight.

For sure it can be a challenge to live out the nutritarian eating plan in real life... and especially with a husband eating pizza nearby. emoticon Bravo for throwing the rest of french fries into the garbage can in order to ensure that YOU did not become the garbage can. Not easy. I know. But good for you! emoticon I hope that you succeed in thinking of some emergency foods for occasions like that.

You really did well with your GBOMBS in spite of the day's challenges! emoticon Fresh or frozen pre-cut vegetables are such time-savers for a busy person!

Thank you REJ! I am doing my best to move my diet more in the direction of Dr. Fuhrman's advice!

You did well too. Mushrooms can be a bit harder to get in, can't they?
My supermarket sells bags of pre-cut veggies with leek and mushroom, they're very nice and I often turn them into a soup.

Today:
G: greens in my smoothie
B: capuchins in my soup
O: Raw onion in my salad before dinner and onion and leek in the soup
M:
B: blueberries as always
S: flaxseeds in my breakfast

Cruciferous: some cabbage in my soup and in my salad, chinese cabbage in the 2 salads I ate, some radishes.
I was too tired to cook... We talked of getting a pizza (would have to be gluten free for me) but I said I'll make a salad, I did, but we were still hungry at night so my husband got a pizza and I had french fries. I ate more of them than I really wanted to... but did throw away about 1/3 of the bag so I would not continue overeating.
Next time I intend to say no. But it can be hard, I find, at times to find a food that's quick to make and tasty and filling. We had soup in the fridge but I just did not feel like having soup at 9Pm...

Thank you REJ!
You're doing very well yourself!
Thanks for the recipe, I will check it out!

Yesterday:

G: no greens sadly, no time to make a smoothie, my husband got surgery yesterday.
B; just a few peas in my soup at night
O Onions in the soup
M None
B No berries but ate 2 apples and 2 tangerines beside the fruit in my breakfast. Spending time in the hospital meant apples and tangerines where the handiest to take along.
S flaxseeds in my breakfast

These 3-ingredient flaxseed wraps are really simple to make. I was glad when I found the recipe.

Great job in eating your GBOMBS and cruciferous vegetables! It can be more challenging to stock up on quality items in smaller stores, but you're doing a great job! I live in Canada, so our growing season isn't that long. In winter, I tend to eat frozen berries too, because it's very expensive to buy them "fresh" (imported) and the quality is sometimes quite low. I do have access to 3 or 4 very good, well-stocked, grocery stores. The reason I haven't been out to do groceries is caring for my parents. My sister, their main caregiver, is on a much-needed vacation and I've been filling in a bit. I did get to the grocery store today, though, so I now have some (frozen) berries.

G: kale in my savoury oatmeal
B: beans
O: onions in my savoury oatmeal
M: mushrooms in my savoury oatmeal
B: berries for dessert
S: ground flaxseeds in my savoury oatmeal

When will you go grocery shopping, REJ? We are lucky to have a simple grocery store around the corner and they have several frozen fruits. Their supply is not very consistent. On good days they have frozen blueberries or strawberries.

Yesterday:
G: greens in my smoothie and kale stew at night.
B: Beans in my soup and a bowl of beans (with a Ts of store bought hummus) in the afternnon.
O: onion and leak in the soup.
M: A tiny bit of musrooms in my soup.
B: ate frozen blueberries
S: again had a handful of pumpkin seeds and the flaxseeds in my breakfast

Cruciferous: ate radishes, and kale for dinner

You did amazingly well in eating all your gbombs on a demanding day when you spent a lot of time away from home, White-Green. It's not necessarily easy to eat a nutritarian diet all the time. I didn't make the best choices at my sister's house yesterday either. But I do try hard to keep those unproductive choices to a minimum.

G- greens in my lunch salad
B- hummus
O- onions in my salad
M- mushrooms in my vegetable stir-fry
B-
S- pumpkin seeds on my salad

I won't be eating any more berries until I go grocery shopping. emoticon

It is hard indeed to control one's eating when you're not at home. You still did well!

Yesterday:
G: greens in my smoothie
B: had some beans in my soup at lunch. Had peas with my salad at night.
O: onion and some leak in the soup.
M: some mushrooms in soup
B: a handful of frozen strawberries
S: a handful of pumpkin seeds and the flaxseeds in my breakfast

Cruciferous: ate radishes.

Other than that I did poorly, eating chocolate and had half of a sweet drink my father gave me. It was a tiring day visiting my father in the home, 5 hours of travelling by train.

BOMB yourself to good health?! That's a pretty intriguing title. LOL!

I'm pretty diligent in making sure to eat my G-BOMBS every day, so this will not be a very difficult challenge for me.

Greens: spinach and lettuce salad
Beans: beans in my salad
Onions: onions in my salad
Mushrooms: mushrooms in my salad
Berries: blueberries in my oatmeal for breakfast
Seeds and nuts: hemp seed salad dressing

No matter how slow you go, you are STILL lapping everybody on the couch.

The challenge for March is to eat your G-BOMBS.

That means we try to eat GREENS, BEANS, ONIONS, MUSHROOMS, BERRIES and SEEDS every day.

This is how it works: Strive to get in your G-BOMBS daily.

Now, it may not be doable to eat all of those foods each and every day. That's okay.

To meet this March Challenge you are asked to eat at least 3 of the foods each day and to post here which ones you ate, preferably daily.

Here is an article about the G-BOMBS, but if you Google it you will find a lot more information.
