well.. that was quite the adventure... and she had to go back.. my other sis took over for one day and anyhow ambulance brought her back. She should not have been discharged to begin with...

There were compromises food wise to be made there...and anyhow some leftovers brought home of which DH loved.. and then I went o Cali to see DS... and came back and house was dirty... and then no power and I got sick..

BUT
I weighed in. I blogged and I am ready to go about 3 rounds of the 6 week challenge emoticon
Today.
17 weeks should get me to my goal weight....because I am sticking to it and this works!

How is it going Springforever?

I'm beginning again at noon!- lunch. Bfast was green eggs and tomoato juice because it was there - not too unhealthy BUT not E2L.

as it is I got back into 150's so freaked and even contemplated extreme measures like keto but I did listen to a seminar by Dr. Garth Davis and he addresses how unhealthy it is SO! that saved me. Sure quick weight loss happens but nutritarian is the way to go!

High NOON today- I have a meeting with Ms. Sallyd Iza Maindisha!!!

New to the team. Hello to all!
I am going to a 6 week challenge of the programme recommended in 'The end of dieting'. and naturally the plan is to continue with after that period. I just feel 6 weeks is good amount of time to adjust to it.

This week I am just learning about the plan, finishing up using up all carby things in house (bread and cereal are my weakness) and try out a few recipes . I plan to officially start on Sunday 14th.

At the moment I am overeating a lot, particularly carbs. I crave them, even though i feel crap from eating so much of them. don't know if anyone else has that experience. I feel like I have brain fog. so I think swapping brain fog for a bit of hunger/craving is a fair trade (especially since that should subside.. I hope!!)

I am also starting power-walking 1 hour first thing in morning Mon to Fri.
I have also decided I am not giving up coffee atm, though I typically find when I exercise and eat well, i reduce caffeine naturally.

This is the beginning of anything you want.

Earnie- it is heartbreaking esp. to see my sister in this battle. Yes- sounds like you have had some frantic weeks too emoticon

I had a good walk yesterday and a huge salad.
Today- will walk again - am working on getting my ST workouts in and all but baby stepping that part.
Mostly working on adherence to the plan. Good but had half and half in coffee.
Plan on tea tomorrow- mix of rooibos and earl grey or white tea and something/just plain white

Using tea as a treat helps.
B-fast was 1/2 cup steel cut oatgroats+ amaranth+ chia seeds + cooked spicy apple with home made pumpkin seed milk
Lunch will be cabbage soup
blog.fatfreevegan.com/2011/04/cabbag
e-
chickpea-soup-basil.html
and a big salad with 1/3 avocado as the dressing

Supper is 1/2 cup brown rice + "stir fry"-tofu and veggies and a side of sesame swiss chard. DD is coming by to have supper with me. I might make miso soup out of some leftover turkey bone broth- it is off plan so ... not sure..

ok!

Em, I understand. It seems that I have spent the last few weeks calling to check on, running errands, and visiting so many friends and family who are suffering from illness and/or age. The hectic holidays haven't helped. I'm looking forward to some calm, home-filled days of Winter to get some projects started or done.

This has been a tough time with health issues of family members. Visiting 2 hospitals and a nursing home. It HAS however made me strengthen my resolve to optimum health-

Planning is key.
So begins a "boot camp" of my own on 12/3/17 and weight goal to be met on 3/2/18 or before

Cleaning out fridge today- before visits to family.

Hey team

Sorry I haven’t been around, I lost a very close friend of 30 years unexpectedly and and I then had to move to be with family, so here I am doing frunerals, talking to piano students, dealing with my friends family, packing for the big move in 90 degree weather. It took 3 days and 6 states in a big huge moving truck to get from Kansas to Oregon.

And then I just didn’t have any motivation to go on but I’m going to try to come more may not be every day but most days.

So now I’m living with my parents, have a teaching job, teach my nephew at the piano and I’m taking piano lessons. And helping brother paint a house so lm off to exercise and practice.

gmfay, I like to put some seeds in salads or on just about anything really. The healthy fats in seeds and nuts help us feel satisfied. A very healthy addition.

I'll have to get out my ETL book tomorrow and see if I can clear something up (or can anyone else on this team). I tend to be a "purist", very simple plain ingredients. I live alone so I'm able to do this.
Yesterday I went to Utube for some of Dr. Fuhrman's material. After sev emoticon eral of them I found myself with a woman (I did not save her name) who apparently has started a group based on ETL. She was showing a day's food plan for the initial 6 weeks (actually called it Nutritarian) but included some grains and nuts or seeds. Am I too strict or are others doing more of what she shared? Day 3 and I have more weakness than usual (84 y/o). I've been considering taking a few liberties so as it is because of unsteadiness.

Things happen.
I never expected an invitation to a charity dinner tomorrow evening due to someone's cancellation. And I was informed my brother and his wife will be in my area about the 2nd week of October. This is a rare occurrence and I may go off plan a few times as our family gets together although another brother and his wife from this area have been pretty much following Dr. Fuhrman for the last 1 1/2 year emoticon . I plan to add extra planned meals at the end of my 6 weeks challenge to meet my quota...not knowing at this time how much I am able to continue for the rest of my life.

I agree! It's a good time to do it! I am recovering from a knee surgery where I gained about 10 lbs. Not too much is going on in the next 6 weeks. I believe I can do it! I look forward to checking in with you!

Hi Peggy,
Tomorrow is also my start day. In the last days I have used up almost all the foods I do not plan to eat during the next 6 weeks (meats, bread and eggs), picked up several grocery items and attended my last of numerous social events which include meals for a while. My daughter is glad to hear that Thanksgiving Day is not included in that time so that I can at least taste most of that meal.

Hi Em! Sounds like your marathon training is going well. I love the idea of having a buddy to keep in touch with while on this journey.

Since I have been plant based I am definitely less stiff and sore. I also have a problem with salt. I use some in the food I prepare but anything processed gives me joint pain and swelling. This is good in a way because it keeps me from eating junk. I can't eat fast food or take out. I figure I'm not missing much. I haven't tried turmeric, I really need to give it a try.

While I was heavy into running I was not eating a plant based diet. I was under the mistaken idea that I could eat what I wanted because I was running 30+ miles a week. If I was doing it all over now I would do things differently.

Well off to work. Hope your weather is pleasant where you are.

btw- I don't get terribly hungry training for races BUT when I cross train with swimming- oh yeah- hunger strikes big time!

ALSO-I was going to blog but honestly I don't have time to justify the "strictness" of the plan or justify it. I just need to do it as the saying says...and stay focused so I will post my 42 days here.

I will admit blogging about it does get a bit tedious...day 4 had a big salad..steel cuts oats for breakfast...lol

Hi RosemaryBeach-
You can call me Em emoticon

I ran a half in July. A friend was impressed so is sponsoring my running Ocean State - end of October.

I got to tun a 5K with my son and blogged about that.

I too am losing so I can run better. I have a bone spur in left foot. I have to be careful as arthritis runs in my family and it is weird but it is creeping into my body..I mean it seems I can control it with diet...esp.. not eating too much salt- although I don't know why..and making sure to get the greens in.
My Dad has it and is taking turmeric (I gave him a bottle to try when he was on alleve every day and now he is taking turmeric) but his diet is not great. He lives with my sis and she is doing the best she can...

I also supplement with turmeric or just add to food.

I am SO happy you dropped in because I need this right now.
- I pulled out a journal. Timing is fantastic for a Eat to Live marathon training program lol
- meaning I will stick to his rules but I might add a bit more avocado/nuts- will see and that depends on weight loss. .. and so will stick to the rules as listed in teh book for the 6 week challenge.
Mine starts on September 13 and then my weigh in will be on October 25. The race is on October 29 so a tapering and adjusting and maybe a few more carbs and then I am going away on vacation. Yes a few rum punches emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon so perhaps when I get back I will do another round- I figure an Eat to Live Thanksgiving may be a challenge I will be up for!

Anyhow- thanks! Let's do this! emoticon

Hi ZIPITUP! I was a big runner for years but have arthritis in my knees and have been told to walk instead. I always felt hungry when training for a race. Running definitely kept my weight down though.

I'm into my third week of my challenge and it has been a challenge. Some days better than others. This past holiday weekend was a problem. Overall I am proud of my progress, I haven't given up. Initially I lost 5 pounds but since the weekend I am up 1 pound. I thought for sure the weight would drop off, Well, not so much. I have to admit, I have not followed Dr Fuhrman's rules. I have been bad about getting the greens in. I have been eating more bread and pasta than I should no doubt. Time to regroup.

What marathon are you doing? I ran one marathon- The Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco. I have ran several half marathons. My wish is to be able to run again some day. In order to do so I need to lose this weight.

Have a great day!

no... but I am thinking about it...only this time I want to try to do it with more sprouting of grains and beans...
always seems like there is something.. not that I did not used to deal with it for ex bring my own dishes but I got into a mentality of eating anything when training for marathon- however not really that far off course. Just enough to know I need to fuel better!

Anyhow- soaking my nuts tonight! lol and going to make some almond milk to go on my stell cut oats which I will soak in water with splash of lemon.

As for the 6 week challenge- that sounds good. The marathon is on October 29th. Will be my first. The NOT having snacks is so good for training!!!!

Relying on a steady stream of food is NOT good!

I did use having my DS home from college as an excuse too for a whole list of foods I will not name. He is vegetarian but ...anyhow...

I need to get out of the 140's I seem to be stuck in...

So looking ahead I can start another challenge soon. I can read the book again and get motivated.

Looks like 9/13 is a good start date for me. To really get things organized and my mind in the game.

Happy to hear you are doing well wit the 6 weeks ROSEMARYBEACH!!
Any favorites?

Hi everyone. I'm starting my six week challenge today. Just read "End of Dieting" this weekend. I feel very motivated to do this. Tired of feeling over weight and bloated. Anyone currently doing the challenge or have completed the challenge?

Jazzejr great news on your health report! Congrats! I'm hoping to have similar results.

Great news after my yearly health check up today: the doctor, of course had the results of my fasting blood test -- cholesterol down from 256 (I'm sure the coconut oil shot it up that high) to 189, my liver function is within their wide range (???), and when she took my blood pressure, it was 120/82. She assumed I'd been taking the Atorvastatin she'd prescribed 6 months ago. I told her I had not, but I'd been following carefully a plant-based, lower carb diet. Her jaw dropped. She said well just stay with it then. Of course I intend to. We have to educate these doctors that good nutrition is good medicine.

We need to keep the Lucky Charms and Cool Whip and miracle whipetc.. for apocalyptic/post apocalyptic times. Humans are adaptable. It will be just us and the cockroaches then... well- I guess we can eat the cockroaches. emoticon

I like growing herbs from seed better too. Something eats my basil out there. Dill weed and parsley and chives go untouched.

JAZZEJR,
its the things that no animal or bacteria want to eat that really worry me. Like a box of Cheerios lasts how long when left on the counter? How long until the bacteria eat that?

So the fact that something wants to eat your tomatoes ... too bad for you, but its a good sign that the tomatoes themselves are a healthy thing to eat.

I don't know, but I took those dead herbs back to the store and they replaced them. The new ones are doing fine, but some animal is eating my little green tomatoes. Oh well. :)

For some reason when I replant store bought herbs I kill them all almost immediately, but I've had great success anytime I've planted them from seed. I wonder if it's the change in environment and the store bought ones are shocked to death from the difference.

Earnie- right! I read that wrong. Celestial seasonings made a strawberry kiwi tea. I used to make iced tea with it. I have not seen it around.

Brought a salad to my Dad's. MY Mom would have been 83 today. He had avocado for the first time and liked it. I will bring him some more. He did have a little of the salad and was amazed I ate as much as I did emoticon He had a ham sandwich with it. My sister lives with him and takes care of him. She does not like many veggies. It is wonderful that she is taking care of him.

Jonnie, I planted two rose bushes and eight lavender plants yesterday. I have a few more herbs (St. John’s Wort and Chamomile and parsley to plant. The rest of the herbs are in pots on the deck.

Em, I haven’t had strawberry tea. Do you make it from fresh strawberries or is it a tea bag? Oh, and I hear you on the wine in the evening. I need to find something else. I will make a fresh pot of ice tea today.

Jonnie- that is odd- too much sun? Too much water?

Earnie- love strawberry tea...and I need to let go once again of my big mug of coffee.
Eldest gave DH a bag of really great coffee beans and we have some kind of bird with annoying sound that starts before 5. My DH calls it the crosswalk bird lol. It just keeps going..so..anyhow my sleep is affected by the one mug plus it is dehydrating...so it has to go...
