Such terrible luck! My insurance company was actually pretty good except that I wish I hadn't let them pay to have my car fixed and for a rental while it was in the shop. The shop took much longer than I thought it would. I don't know if it would have made a difference, but my bill went up to over $4000 a year. I've been able to bring it down and it does decrease, but I will have paid more on insurance than on the second car I bought to bring the price down. (It saved me money to insure two cars!) Anyway, I wish it hadn't happened but I hope they come through.

I've had problems with a rat infestation in my attic. I finally found a company I decided to trust after six weeks of me crawling up in my attic, setting and moving traps around, catching only one rat, and hearing them have a party up above me in my living room and over my bedroom every twilight and pre-dawn. RAts have wreaked havoc with my $2800 insulation. Hindsight is 20/20. They already caught a couple last night and came out right away to retrieve the carcasses. I hope it the traps catch more, they do it on Sunday because no one will come over the weekend, I don't think. In this weather, a dead body will get pretty smelly fast.

Having trouble with my laptop and going to take that in.

Did I announce here that I enrolled in a course to teach me to become a coach for binge eaters? It's really interesting stuff. I am starting with the course they offer for people in the midst of a problem. When I think of how much I used to spend on binge foods and how much time I spent worrying about it and feeling bad, it is an absolute bargain. Most of their participants spend more on overeating in a few months than the cost of the course. (I was always able to binge on cheap foods! I had less expendable income, I guess and was just less likely to blow it on food. I have a decent income but will rarely buy a beverage out because most places they are such a bad deal! Water is fine for me. ) The coach course is tacked onto that. I have been thinking about this for a long time, but felt I lost my mojo for awhile, so I didn't have the cred for it, but things have gotten better. The course teaches many of the same principles I was able to use, just in a more organized way.

Someone cut off and stole my Catalytic Converter off my truck this weekend. I had my truck locked and the alarm set too. And I didn't hear the alarm going off. So I have no idea when it happened and how they did it without setting off the alarm.

I went to go to work Monday morning and it sounded like I had a blown muffler. So I dropped my work stuff off at the office and then went to our local repair shop. Then walked back to work. On the way back to the office the cap came loose some how on my water bottle and I ended up leaking about half the bottle of water into the front pocket of my purse, soaking my cell phone. So now I am without my truck while I am waiting for the police, Insurance and repair shop to handle it. And without a phone too. I am still waiting to see when and if the insurance company is going to cover me getting a rental vehicle while I wait for my truck. The repair shop already has the replacement part for me, they are just waiting for the ins co and the police to give them the approval to touch my truck. So it sounds like it is going to be a drawn out ordeal just like when it was stolen in Dec.

My boss supposedly has a spare cell phone that he hardly ever used since he got it a few yrs ago, just sitting in a drawer at our other office down in San Diego. I just have to find my way down there when the other woman is there to pick it up and to take it to T-mobile to get the cards swapped and get it set up for me to use. He said it is mine if I want it, I just have to go get it and get it switched to me. And put his card back in a drawer in the Escondido office for him.

So hopefully I will hear today or tomorrow from the insurance company if they are going to pay any for the rental or not. Last time I got one the same day the truck was stolen and then found out they wouldn't cover it for the first 48 hours, which is when I needed it. I actually turned that one back in just as my 48 hours was going to start. So this time I want to know exactly what they will and won't cover and when.

I hope all is going well for you all,
Janette

I know this morning overcast is probably driving some people crazy but I am still loving it. I feel so motivated to get out in the morning and walk the small hills in my neighborhood. I am so susceptible to heat and sweat once it gets sunny that just seeing the sunshine can set off a feeling of resistance in my body. (This doesn't happen in our winters, when it feels great to be out in brisk air with clear sunshine.) I feel lucky to live in a hilly 'hood. My counter says I climbed 12 floors on my 45-minute walk. Some days I've climbed 20!

I had to actually cut my walk short a bit to be home for a webinar. If we get some nice breezes, I may go down by the water.

Got myself out of the house early and went down to the Convention Center to walk before many other people showed up. (I went on another Sunday about a month and a half ago and it was too crowded for me.) I used to go into one of the high rise hotels and go climb their staircases for exercise. One of them wasn't even open. A hotel? Maybe I had it mixed up with something else, but it was tall. There are stairs at the CC outside so I did those and went to the water just this side of Seaport Village. I turned around because I was trying to make sure I got back before an online meeting at 10. When I went to the Zoom link and it just kept saying the host was waiting to open the room, I checked the meeting time: 10:30----EST. Dang! I know they record them and I can watch tomorrow, but I had allotted the time. I've been a little off kilter since, though I got in a decent talk with a friend who moved away. (She's really sorry, BTW.)

I made a rule on Tuesday that I have to be willing to spend at least one hour a day on some dreaded project in my house or garden. Writing on Spark is NOT dreaded. I don't always do my dishes because I don't like to- no dishwasher-, but they don't count. However, I'm going to do them and move on to today's DP after 14 more minutes on Spark.

You are a trooper, J-gal! I am so grateful there are people like you who are willing to be careful when you know you are at greater risk of being exposed and possibly spreading the virus without even knowing it.

I did go to someone's house on Sunday; single woman who works from home. Another older woman retired. We sat apart with masks and watched a closed circuit broadcast of a performance from Florence. That was my big social event of the last four months. Am back to laying pretty low, though I am willing to go to open spaces where there might be others. I am aiming for early hours when it's cooler and fewer people are out.

I signed up for an online program to prepare me to be a professional coach for compulsive overeaters. We just started Monday night. I actually already know and have practiced a lot of the skills and underlying thinking principles. This is just making it very systematic. I have no idea if I'll ever have the oomph to make any kind of business happen. I certainly don't want to step on any toes here on Spark. I am willing to share what I know if people are open to it.

I am off soon to get a bone density test through Kaiser. I have had it done on my own dime and was doing well. Let's see if things are holding steady after 15 months

Thanks! I am avoiding crowds as much as possible. Pretty much just going to work and running errands for work, or to get prescriptions or food. Do drive through for the food and prescriptions as much as possible too. No going to the beach for me. I had lady friends that were going to meet at a local park, they planned on bringing their on brown bag lunches and chairs and sitting spaced out from each other, with masks on too except for when the ate. They were meeting last weekend, and I had too much going on with work anyways so didn't go. Even if I wasn't busy, not sure I would want to do that just yet. But I really think that I would probably be the most risky one there if I had showed up, as with my job, I couldn't always self-distance. And whom knows if the people I was coming into contact with my job were practicing self-distance, wearing masks, or such. Some didn't even bring a mask when the order went out that we had to wear one, let alone wear one when they came into the office. Where as most of these ladies that were meeting are retirees that have stayed home as much as possible and have been self-distancing as much as possible.

I am so glad that this tax season is over, and now we just have to deal with some clients that filed extensions, or had other issues as far as taxes goes. My bookkeeping and payroll always seems to keep me busy now too. When I started back in 2016, I had a lot of free time from April 17th to Jan, and even some free time during the season. But each year I got more and more responsibilities, and the free time just started disappearing. This year was just the worst of it. So many long days in the office and then coming home to deal with work stuff in the evenings and weekends too. Now I am hoping that it will really slow down a lot until the New Year.

I am so glad I got today off, but I have to go back in tomorrow, and might have to do some work this weekend from home too.

Yeah, I am not liking the heat again this summer. Especially since we do not have A/C at home, just space fans.

Have a great day and weekend.

Looks like summer has actually arrived. I imagine it will be a zoo near the beach tomorrow on the 4th, even though I think beaches are supposed to be closed. We've had defiance to the COVID measures. I won't be out there. Next year!

You sound like I did most of the time when I was teaching. Could hardly ever take a whole weekend off, unless it was summer break.

I'm feeling torn about summer weather. Not that it makes a difference if I don't like it!

Happy Summer Solstice! I personally am happy that it will start getting light later in the mornings. Even if I wear a sleep mask, it's as if my body knows it's light out, and I keep waking up at 5 or 5:30. That is way too early for me to start taking in calories, and yet I get little urges to have coffee (with creamer). Tea or black coffee just doesn't do it for me. It would just be nice not to have to contend with it.

I got off track with my good eating routine by doing something temporary meant to further recalibrate my appetite. It did not work and has made things worse. So typical! But I also know the bumpy ride is temporary, too. I am doing a few purposeful things to right this boat.

Janette, you are in a business that seems to have job security; at least your boss with your help is able to keep his customers happy. That has its pluses and minuses, as with most things in life. You seem to do pretty well, but here's sending you a wishes for a shot of well being.

Still liking our cool weather; unfortunately, because I know we are having several days of this, I do not feel as a sense of urgency toget my outdoor projects done. But I did get one done: finally burned some old wood in an outdoor fireplace I had never used and was able to start seasoning several cast iron pans that had been rusting outside for a few years. I have wanted to do that for years!

Thanks! Tax wise we got a lot done before the April 15th normal tax deadline. So my boss felt comfortable taking off to Chicago right after that like he usually does. A lot of his clients are just emailing him stuff. Others are dropping it off to me and then I either email it to him or send it to him though the mail, and then he mails it back to me. But we know a lot of them are waiting for July to do theirs, especially the ones that know that they are going to owe money. Those are the ones that always put it off as long as possible.

But payroll and bookkeeping have not really slowed down much at all. Only a few of them stopped their payroll temporarily, but instead of doing payroll for them, I ended up doing a lot of Workers Comp Insurance Audits, some just got ran early. And others I had just ran, the ins wanted another short one ran to show the time from the last audit to the time they stopped payroll. And there was a lot of other reports and such to run for them to help them get loans and such too. Same with the bookkeeping, so instead of being slower those two area that I am in charge of doing seemed to be a lot busier. And most of them that had temporarily stopped payroll are back at it again, just with less employees, fewer hours, and some with almost all new employees, as previous employees didn't want to come back or found other jobs. I have heard there are several that are afraid to come back, afraid of catching the virus.

It was my day off today, but ended up doing a lot of work from home, responding to calls and emails, printing out P & L's to get ready to deliver to the bookkeeping clients later this week. But I did manage to get some house work in and some personal stuff too.

Take care,
Janette

I admit that I hope this is not the beginning of our hot season, that we get a bit of a reprieve before July. But I'm enjoying hearing the wind chimes in the breeze and seeing my bougainvillea. Got a few petunias I potted recently that I hope get pretty full as the season progresses.

I was caught up in a project yesterday- a stressful one I also spent a lot of time avoiding with online diversions- and had not even looked at the weather forecast of rain. Left some laundry drying out on my deck last night. It's drying again now! I've been lolling even though I could get plenty done inside without the sun. Will the sun this afternoon get me outside? Time will tell. I'm loving listening to wind chimes and tree branches moving. Saturday is a day I allow myself some random nibbling, but I think I'm ready to declare no more eating until dinner time. I feel best (and my weight loss went better) when I stopped following advice to eat every few hours. Though, wow, just noticed it's one o'clock! I'd better quit if I want to work up any kind of real appetite (not just jonesing for food) by dinner time. I have been finishing my eating by six during quarantine, and feel better doing that. I'll probably change it to later when I have a chance to socialize and go out months from now. I used to be such a night eater! But I like my long overnight fasts now.

That's rough, Janette. It's funny, I think my tax accountant has has an easier time this year because of covid, since the tax deadline was extended. She was about a third done before shutdown and is having pretty good luck with people steadily giving her information so she can file. She got another third done since then so has a month to get the rest. I'm sure some will leave it to the end, either out of distaste, overwhelm, or just not having what they need. In bookkeeping, you don't have that kind of leeway.

I happily spent the morning working in the yard in the glorious cool but let myself get sidetracked inside this afternoon. I'm going to get out there again after I finish dinner. I'm having dinner with all my Spark friends in my imagination. But I really want to take advantage of June gloom because once it gets sunny and hot earlier, I will wimp out.

I haven't don't much besides going into the office, or going to clients, or working from home. I keep getting called into work on my days off during the week, and a lot of my weekend time is taken up with bookkeeping or other issues from work too.

I am supposed to be off on Tuesday and Thursday now. But seems I am always getting called into the office so someone can pick up or drop off papers or some other issue. Or needing to work on work comp audit forms that the clients keep giving me right before they are due or even after they are due. I dealt with three of those already this week. Today I have to go in as two clients decided to start the their payrolls up and again, and waited until the last minute to let me know they are back up in business. And want their payroll ran today, with new employees added, and want their payroll dropped off to them today, so they will have it to give to the employees tomorrow, instead of it going out in the mail. Usually they would have gave me that info last Friday, or this Monday so that it could go out in the mail to get to them before tomorrow. Seems a lot of them that are coming back in to us as clients have had a big turn over of employees. Not sure if the employees that are not coming back don't want to risk getting COVID-19, or if they are down sick, or if they have issues with child care right now as the schools are still not open? Whom knows, I am not asking unless I have to fill out Work Comp Audit forms, or other needed forms for them. Just dealing with just what I have to for them, as I am still really busy. I still have a lot of bookkeeping to do, and I will be getting more bookkeeping really soon also.

Have fun and stay safe!

OMgosh, I love red rock. I've taken a couple of trips to Canyonlands in Utah, as well as Bryce, Zion, and Cedar Breaks. Nice in the fall and spring. Kind of brutal by SD standards the other seasons! But every place is compared to here.

Have been enjoying being out in my yard the last couple of days shoveling dirt and doing some potting. LIstening to the trees wave in the breeze, and birds chirp, and today, the helicopters flying. ("nuf about that for now.) It looks pretty crazy out in the garden as I'm in the middle of several things. I can never plan it all out ahead, but things are shaping nicely. Mostly succulents and trees, though I bought a few flowering plants and food. Hope they take. I am sore, but it's a productive sore! My hands have all kinds of little cuts. I sure feel for people who do manual work every day.

One of my favorite things about San Diego is the landscape and the amazing canyons!!

I was lucky when I lived in Las Vegas to have lived right near Red Rock Canyon - so I had endless access to beautiful landscape there too!

Enjoy and let us know of any great hikes out there! I still need to check Potato Chip Rock off my list, ha!

All the best, Vespa

I found a canyon trail system that starts only blocks from my house. I've lived here since 9/02 and never knew it was there! It goes into a canyon to the east and I normally have gone every other direction to walk. There is one branch I haven't taken yet because I can see it goes up onto a mesa that would be quite a trek to come back from. (I took one branch the other day and my 30-minute walk turned into a 90-minute one!) I'll have to be sure to start early if I want to check it out. The sun wasn't supposed to come out until 11 this morning but t was already getting bright by 8:30, when I was already back. The canyons don't usually have much of a breeze, so I prefer not to do my walking in them when the temperature is rising. Hope to do some plant potting later today, and maybe change out some of my clothes from cool to warm weather.

I am lucky being retired as a teacher. We have our own pension system, and they claim they have the money, though I can't imagine it's not going to get tough as investments tank. I really hope we stay solvent, as I would rather not have to ask the state taxpayers to have to fund us, which is what would happen if the teachers' fund can't pay the pensions. But that would be a long way off, I'm pretty sure.

Glad you are both being able to work. It's great to get paid and to have something focused to do.

I've been forcing myself to stay off any electronic devices before 10 am unless it's to work out to a video or having something playing in the background while I do some floor exercise or some housework. Oh, and I have to stay on my feet (except floor exercise) until 10 once I get up. I get a walk in each morning and have been keeping my kitchen cleaner. (I am not a good housekeeper and live alone, so only have myself to please or blame.)

I have been shopping only twice since mid March. I have not seen sanitizer anywhere; even online, it's hard to get. Thankfully, I had some from my old classrooms, but I am being very cautious with it, too. As a senior citizen, I don't go out much anyway, but I have it in the car along with tissues. I use the tissues to pick up some stuff when I've shopped, throw those away, and the clean my hands in the car. But I'm thinking it's best if I just don't go where people are in enclosed spaces for the next month at least, and probably beyond, even if things open up. I was just trying to get into acting in my "old age" and had even scored a supporting part in a play that is supposed to get staged in August, but who knows if it will get staged? It's a small theater, so I don't think they can do any kind of broadcasting it with video, as the Globe has done. Even if it is staged, I may have to decline. Waaa! But no need to dwell on that now.

So glad to see you both here!

I hope everyone can get their unemployment checks. That is really scary :-( That would give me such anxiety!!! I am a "lucky" one as well - as I am considered an essential world.

Yes, several of our payroll companys employees haven't received any money since the middle of March, and still haven't been able to get their unemployment checks coming in either. As just too many people applying all at the same time, the website keeps crashing and glitching on them and so hard to get anyone on the phone or online to help them out. And the banks were having a hard time getting the info they needed to get the companies small business loans and such too for the same reason. All the websites are over loaded and glitching. So the bf and I are the lucky ones here still having money coming in, even if our hours are cut back. I got the $1200 stimulus check too, and I am sure the bf will get one too. Plus we will both be getting money back from our tax returns too. So we really are some of the luckier ones.

We have found it is best to go into the stores when they first open up, as the popular stuff just gets picked over so fast that they run out if you go later in the day. And even that isn't a guarantee that you will find toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning products or such. I do bookkeeping for some small market/deli stores and they said they are having problems themselves getting any of that stuff to even put in the store. One guy said he hasn't been able to get the disinfecting wipes or hand sanitizer since March, so it doesn't matter when you go to his store. He can never get it so there is none to be had at his store to buy.

Have a great day.

I am glad you have paying work! It is actually a blessing to have a diversion.

The weeds just laughed at my spraying. I had bought a small bottle of the herbicide, and it worked quite well, so I bought a huge bottle at Costco a while back. Maybe it degrades quickly, but I’m going to take it back at some point. I guess I could try digging them out after cutting them down, but that is going to be very frustrating. However, I don't want to use something really toxic either. It’s a conundrum. I did go to my corner market a while ago and tried to move fast. I have my mask. I also have a friend in the neighborhood who is willing to do shopping for me at sprouts but I might talk with him and suggest that I just go when they open at seven in the morning. Hopefully they've cleaned the store at night and I’ll be among the first customers. Also, Trader Joe's has a time just for senior citizens between eight and nine. However, if he's going anyway, I might just let him get me this stuff. I really do like being able to walk down the isles and look at what's available to get me ideas but that might be asking a little much right now.

We were still going strong in both offices, especially the San Diego office all through the usual April 15th tax dead line. I worked full time with over time until Friday April 17th. My boss took off for a vacation for at least a month too that Saturday. He is still available to me and clients by phone and email, but he is back in Chicago again. My office is pretty dead right now, except a few people coming to drop off, or pick up their tax returns. We are still putting out returns, but it is by getting the tax docs to the boss one way or the other and then him getting me back the tax return to give or mail out to the clients. I am working in the office now on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, doing payroll for our few clients that are still up and running, and bookkeeping and other stuff. And sometimes I am still working beyond my scheduled hours for those days in the office, or from home, and also sometimes on my scheduled days off. But trying to stick to the new schedule as best as I can. But if something comes up that just needs more time to deal with, or is more of importance, then we are being flexible like usual. Other than work I am hardly going anywhere. I usually only go to the pharmacy once a month for my prescriptions, and I am keeping to that. I don't go out shopping much, I let the bf handle most of it like usual. I am in the higher risk category, so I don't do a lot of unnecessary errands right now. And I wear a mask when I do go run errands or go to work. Once I am there and in the office by myself, I let my mask down unless someone comes in. Take care

I finally got out and sprayed some weeds. The liquid is supposedly not an environmental toxin, and it does need strong, consistent sunshine, which we have not had for awhile. Weeds that are bigger than I’ve ever seen are growing in cracks of my driveway. They don’t respond to trying to yank them out at all. They just break off, and believe me, the plant that grows from that is even stronger! I have a webinar to go to at noon but after that I think I will get out in parts of the yard that are in shade to get a little more done. Will take a walk away from stores at some point, too. I am near the public golf course on the east side of Florida Canyon. The road through that area is closed off, but the view from their parking lot of a sunset is fantastic. I hope it is OK for me to walk over there.

I get tired (but not tired enough, I guess) of hearing myself ask myself why I don't get outside for more garden work or a walk. I did actually get some trimming of my bougainvillea done, though it's only marginally satisfying because I don't have the equipment or knowledge to do a great job.

Jan, the tax deadline was extended. Didn't that take some pressure off?

Doing ok, hanging in there. Had a few boredom eating days, but not a lot of damage.

Have a good weekend.

I am still working full time with some overtime in the office doing payroll, bookkeeping, and dealing with the tax clients too. I help them make appointments, take their tax documents if they want to just drop them off, and help them with their taxes when they are done, making sure they sign the forms, either take their payment or put them on a list for them to pay later, and hand their returns over to them. I had to go to a couple of my bookkeeping clients yesterday to drop off and pick up from them and will be going to a lot more next week. I am wearing face coverings and so are they.

My bf is still working full time too, working in the "IT" field, he is helping his companies clients to make it so their employees can work from home. He was offered to work from home too since we are both turning 60 this year. And I was offered to do most of my work from home too. But with tax season it is just easier to work full time, then to have to run back and forth to the office several times a day to take care of what ever comes up. And with his job it is easier for him to take care of stuff from the office than from home too.

Probably after we get past April, I will probably cut my hours and days back again like usual. I can do my bookkeeping from home. And just go out when I need to run payroll, or meet with clients for what ever reason. I know my boss isn't planning on continuing to work seven days a week still after April 15th. Which is when he would normally cut back his hours.

Well I am going to close this for now. I have a lot of things I want to try to accomplish this weekend around the house. Things I have been putting off since Jan, or only doing minimally since I have been putting in so many hours each day and week in the office since Jan.

Take care of yourself and try to stay as healthy as possible.

Maybe I should make a weekly chat thread...

Mostly glad for the rain. Having water is good! If the big earthquake comes, we could be out of water and power for days. This quarantine is easier than that, though the work disruption can be deflating. I survived two layoffs in the early 80's. Not fun, but fun is not promised.

Throat ok. Ventured out to get a free cloth mask yesterday, and free oranges from a gardener on Nextdoor. I thought I'd go ahead and pick up a to-go lunch at my Vietnamese vegetarian shop but they were closed. Gosh, I hope they can last through this lockdown, though I don't eat there all the time. I don't eat anywhere all the time.

Have had a couple of days of overeating. Blech. Feeling like April will be a new beginning. I hope I can recapture the ease I was having up until this month.

The coolness and overcast helped me stay put today, although I could have used a walk. I went out on colder nights before. Well, not going to push myself now. Did my 15 minutes of vigor, and a couple extra. That's it.

Same on throat, though feels fine now. Too much time on the web. Will go walking soon. I commit to a 15 minute-fitness tape and 20 minutes of a tap dance lesson before I go to bed.

Throat has been better but still doing the dance of prevention. Going to eat dinner soon and go for a walk, keeping clear of others while sending good vibes. Food is easy. Thankful I've learned not to destress with food so much. But bingeing on online stuff. I forgive myself!

I think I have more cold symptoms, not flu because it's mostly in my throat. No aches or fever, and the slight chest heaviness has been gone. Unfortunately my throat got worse again yesterday in the afternoon. I did get a nice morning walk in and a short, vigorous workout online.

My car battery was dead and I jumped it with a charger and then drove to Imperial Beach along the strand. I went inland and stopped at a couple of stores to see if I could find any rubbing alcohol.(NONE!) I had not done as much gargling -not with alcohol!-as I had been and noticed the sore throat came back. It also made me very nervous seeing some people in line at one store standing way too close. That plus reading more online after I came home has convinced me I need to stick to open space outdoors.

I've ramped up my preventative strategies and throat is better. This time, I will not back off for at least 48 hours.

Sticking to my 5-day plan. Hey, I'm almost half way through day 3. Today feels very easy so far. Knock on wood.

Laid low yesterday with flu symptoms. Taking a walk today soon. Scored a couple of cans-the limit-of garbanzos at corner market. There was a shortage of them even before C19, $1.59! I rarely buy canned beans and never for more than $.99, but I did it. Weren't many left, but I'm going to go take a look to see if there are still some today.

Going to do an online tap lesson at 1 to replace my weekly class. Bwaaaa!

Determined to take a walk today. Didn't get out and it's definitely warmer. I'll stay clear of others.

Way too caught up in thoughts and wanting to believe I have an idea how things are going to turn out. This crisis may be the catalyst to reduce that habit.

Not feeling stir crazy yet, though I wouldn't mind walking up to the local Target. But with what has been discovered about how long the virus can be airborne, that would not be smart. Yet, I bet I do go there before two weeks are up. However, I do have Amazon Prime. Then, if I were going to be smart, I'd have to wipe down the box and any item I get because who knows about the people who handled the items? I was feeling a bit heavy in my chest last night and all kinds of visions of things I touched when shopping on the weekend, e.g., a pen for writing the item number from a bulk bin, came to my mind. Took my Wellness herb, gargled. Fine today. Just stay home! I rewatched the movie The Pianist on Sunday. It makes what we are going through look like a joke. And that was just one story, though an incredible one. And he made it through. So many didn't.

Over 65 here, so staying in for now, as per Newsom's request. My doctor friend has me convinced our worst problems will be because the population didn't isolate as much as we should have. He works for Humana- the only medical staff interacting with others are caregivers. I fear a bit for my 76-year old friend who has untreated high blood pressure. She has been reluctant to follow up on that until now. Her age and that condition could very much compromise her situation. Not panicking- just thinking about it all soberly.

I got the part of Ruth, a supporting role that has lots of potential!

Spent the day lying low yesterday because I felt cold symptoms Wednesday night. Gargled with salt and lemon every few hours, making sure to clear my throat and spit out all I could, and used the herbal supplement Wellness. I feel good today. I'll never know if the symptoms would have gone away without all that, but I wasn't going to take a chance. I doubt I had COVID-19, but I don't want any flu or cold!

All Agewell classes have been suspended by Parks and Recreation for now. I don't know about the senior talent show I am supposed to be in next week. I'm still going to the senior tap dance class through the San Diego dance theater today. There are just a few of us in the class.

Had my call back audition last night. I don't know if I was getting misled, but I think I have a pretty good chance at a part, one considered major, the other minor, but still juicy. The only problem I see now is that I want to audition for a Shakespeare production that I would dearly love to be in, but I think rehearsals and staging would overlap. I would SO love to be in a Shakespeare production, though I know I would likely get only a small part. I'm told it is very much frowned on to audition for a part and then not accept an offer. I don't know if they'll tell me I have a part before the other audition, though.

My ex-colleagues and I were supposed to go on a walk near the IB pier and then have lunch today. Most of them live farther south and east and have come to what I consider my neck of the woods many times, so I am meeting them in Eastlake this time. The restaurant has only one vegetarian offering; I guess that's what I'm getting. It's the restaurant Islands. Lots of fried things and white flour, though I think that's not particularly authentic. Native cuisine altered for Westerners Oh, well. I will like visiting with the girls. If I had known I would be going down, I would have planned a little visit to my old high school. Maybe we'll be done around the time school lets out and I could say hi to a few teachers.

Got a busy afternoon in Point Loma and Balboa Park. I packed a meal so I don't have to depend on outside food. Feeling overwhelmed by my messy yard and too much stuff inside, but not enough to get rid of more stuff for now. I just feel like sleeping, but would be sorry if I did, I'm pretty sure.

Wow. Once again, let a lot of days go by.

Eating has stayed fine. Got stomach flu for about 24 hours. Will not try to eat more to make up for what I missed with reduced appetite, even if body prompts it. I still have reserves that would benefit my brain to pull out and use.

Voted! Walked to poll site and took roundabout way home. Clear and great views.

Recovered and have had a good two days.

I decided with about an hour to go to attend the bi-monthly senior dance in Balboa Park. I wore a funky, cobbled belated Mardi Gras outfit -that was the theme-and danced with a couple of men I know whom I pretty much browbeat. I think there was an advantage to my being there the last hour. I wasn't trying to get away without paying- it's only$5- but no one was selling tickets, and I had missed the snack and prize drawing, so I didn't feel too bad. I had a lot less time to stress over how hard it is got get good dance partners and fretting over whether it's worth my time or not. I might do it this way all the time, but it will mean missing the dance lesson.

Had a rebellious eating morning, though there is plenty of time to recover. It wasn't bad stuff, just eating the food willy nilly instead of sitting down to savor it and let it sink in that I was eating. Diet doctor James Johnson estimates that it's only 10% of the population (or less) who can eat at will and maintain the weight that used to be quite normal in America before the grazing/snack habit became so big.

But I"m having a day feeling a bit lost. Thought I had an appointment this morning, but it's tomorrow. The engine is on idle with my housework, though for the first time in years last night, I actually put all the clean dishes away and folded up the dish rack. (I don't have a dishwasher.) I start to think about some things I should be making decisions about, get stressed, and play on my phone or come here. Sometimes being on Spark is a good diversion but others, it's more like it is a drug that protects me from my anxiety. Well, I guess it could be a lot worse.

Spent too much time online today, but it did keep me from overeating. I also went to a 3-hour workshop on acting for Shakespeare. It is a dream of mine to get a part in a Shakespeare play, one where I actually audition and get the part! I have taken several classes where we had showcases that were challenging but rewarding. It's a bit of a long shot to get cast since I'm so much older than most of the actual characters and it's a lot more common for actors to play people older than they are, but not younger. In the mean time, I will still keep participating in Shakespeare stuff where I pay for my part!

The workshop was at the Coronado Community Center, so I went afterwards and got in around 8,000 steps near or on the beach. I was wearing ankle boots so I got a blister on one lower shin, but it was worth it. Low tide, nice sky, good walking temp with my jacket on.

I have the bad habit of not posting when I am floundering. I don't like having to keep reporting that I'm not keeping to my guidelines. Yes, there is some shame, which I try to dispel, but it's also because I don't want to just be rehashing it.

I completed an audition today and was able to wear a pair of pants that still fit pretty nice. But I don't want to keep testing the envelope.

I got through so much paper with my organizer, Nancy. It just helps so much to have someone there who knows so much about paperwork. She never tells me to do this or that, just guides me with questions or information. I have hope that I am going to keep refining until I learn to set up workable routines for dealing with it faster and sooner. I've also been running minimalist/decluttering videos while I do housework and am working on the kitchen. I will work on cabinets- mostly herbs and spices- for awhile today.

I have only space heaters in my small house. The one near me in my open living room (open to kitchen, too) has been running on the next to the lowest setting for two hours! That hardly ever happens. Rates have sure gone up. I thought my last bill was a mistake; it turns out I used about the same as I did in winter months in '19 and '18, but the bill is about 50% higher this year. Oh, well. It's not as if that is going to break me. It's worth an extra average of $2.50 a day to be warm for these months. I have plenty of winter days when the sun heats up my space really well!

And a great heater is just going outside!

Made an appointment with an organizer to help me with paperwork tomorrow. Got a class in Point Loma tonight. Will I get myself in gear to have time to walk over there before the class? Did not do my yoga yet today. Dang.

Got a little bit done, but enough to clear space for my maid to clean, so I am enjoying the house afterwards. I loved hearing the rain last night and this morning, but also walking to and from a lunch date after it cleared.

Auditioned for a senior talent show in March yesterday: will find out if I got in on Friday.

Going to an improv class today. Will practice sitting with my impatience! It's in Balboa Park, so I will get in a walk, too. I think I will walk down to the trolley station on Park and Broadway and renew my transit pass. However, I will likely be driving to dinner afterwards so won't take transit today.

I did not get out as much as I thought I would. Oh, well. I had coffee with a new man this morning. We went for a walk around the water from downtown through Seaport Village and back to Broadway and 3rd, where I took the bus. He is originally from Texas, but has lived all over the world, and likes our transit! He is living in Little Italy and takes the trolley all the time. It was a lot nippier and windier out that normal, but it was pleasant. and I got over 8,500 steps in, so it will be easy to get up to 10,000 later.

Had a bit of a wild and wooly 24 hours with food starting Friday night, but no binge foods. Things are normal again. I think I am getting a sense of what my meals need to be like to meet my new standard. It is a bit complicated because I am so low on starches in my kitchen now and I vowed not to buy any until I use up some other stocked items. However, I think it will be pretty easy to work in some rice, potatoes, barley, oats, or rye when the time comes. In the meantime, though I have long included avocado and nuts in my plan, they play a bigger role now because I am not getting my calories from some other foods. It's fun!

Got an online webinar in not too long.

Not that we have had bad weather, but I am looking forward to the bit higher temps and sun coming up. GOT to get myself over to the water! The sunset from the edge of the Pershing Drive golf course was stupendous last night. Red light was getting reflected on one building long after the rest of the sky had gone blue. My iPhone takes disappointing pictures. I took one, but it didn't really get the effect. I guess I just have to have it in my memory, like the old days. emoticon

I was hoping my organizer would be available this week, but she is down with the flu. I will hire a local high school student this weekend to help with the yard this weekend. Not sure what I am doing today. I have felt stuck the last few days, overwhelmed. But I know the thing that has helped in the past is to set a timer for a certain time- 7, 11, 14, 15, 21 minutes- and work on a task for that long. If I get really drawn to a task, I set the timer for that for longer next time.

Skin still healing. Such an overcast day. Lazy morning. Will have a brunch later, as it's almost 10 and I am not hungry at all. I've decided to take one day a week off from tracking, as it was starting to feel to obsessive. That was yesterday. I had given myself permission already to eat more than usual. Had late lunch with friend and snacky dinner. I"m actually looking forward to more "order" today. It's also actually a great temperature- cool and cloudy- to go exercise a bit harder than usual. Not much sweat! Got no good reason not to.

Oops, been out of the loop. Had some problem spots (as in areas) frozen by doc this week. They look bad now but I hope to see improvement next week. And got prescription to treat rosacea. Some days it's more noticeable than otehrs, but since I know it usually gets worse and can damage skin, especially on the nose, to the point where it cannot be repaired, I wanted someone to look at my spots before they got "enraged."

Salvation Army is selling all their clothing for $2 each item today and tomorrow.. I made a special trip to the one in La Mesa and did find some tops and a table fan. Then on the way back from my dance class in Liberty Station, I went to the one on Sports Arena. And found more. I really did try to be choosy, though I haven't bought anything kind of silly for a long, long time. Today I got a straightline skirt that has some flower patterns made with fake jewels. Very campy. Now I have to go to more of the senior dances so I have a place to wear a skirt, especially one like that. I also got a polyester-ish top with wild 60's arty patterns, bell-sleeved. It's a hoot. Maybe for Halloween? We'll see. I got some regular stuff, too, and promise I will get rid of some things, too. Too pooped to go through my closet now.

I'm experimenting with eating a dinner of less starch and more fat in prep for a longer overnight fast. I keep reading about the wonder of ketones for the brain, at least for a period of time, and concerns with brain function and aging are driving my eating these days. Some say after 12 hours, the body exhausts its stored sugar and will convert to using ketones. So it's recommended to sometimes (more often for some, but it's controversial) go another four hours without food and let the body burn a different fuel. I am hoping that I might deplete my sugar even sooner and can wake up burning ketones, since they are an appetite suppressant. I have been waking up pretty hungry most mornings. I'm not trying to avoid hunger completely. I like my meals so much better when I'm hungry! But I'd like to have some time some mornings without those pangs while I do my yoga and whatever before I eat.

Did not get organizing done, but used two Indian Instantpot kits I agreed to try out for my cooking teacher, and they were delicious! My friend did not want to walk; I ended up not getting much activity in, even though I did have time between then and a singles dinner I went to near UTC. The dinner was meant to be very casual, and it was. I felt sorry for some of the men. There were only four women to six men, and three of the men were about 20 years younger than the women. Plus, people came from pretty far away. It must be even harder to meet new people in the outlying communities. I might get in touch with a couple of the women. I go to these as much to meet possible new gal pals.

I'm keeping to my plan. It is feeling a bit obsessive, but when I think about abandoning it and taking chances with my health, I decide it's still worth it to try to get familiar enough with it that I can do it with less attention. The body is giving me some fears about missing out on some delicious foods. "Do you really need to? Won't you be sorry if you don't eat things you like and still get sick?" Maybe I will decide later that it isn't worth the sacrifice, but it's too soon for that, especially when I really like my meals! And most hours of the day, I feel darn good.

Another gorgeous day outside. I did not get to the mess. I will have some time this morning before my lunch visitor, but I guess if worse comes to worse, I can haul the stuff out again. It's not an emergency!

Am hoping my lunch friend (from Mira Mesa) will be willing to go over to Coronado or some beach to walk. But anywhere is else is a good second choice, too. Just want to get some steps in with someone else!

Thanks for coming on to catch up, especially in such a busy season.

I am feeling kind of stuck this morning I had left some things out on my deck the other night not realizing that we were going to get some rain. When I woke up in the morning, I flew out there to pull the things inside, and I still haven’t dealt with them. It was all stuff I didn’t want to deal with in the first place! It has helped me a few times just to go ahead and tell people something like this online because then the sense of urgency seems to go up son and I finally push past the resistance. Let’s hope that happens after I finish this post.

Four times a year, I weigh myself for seven days in a row, and then average those weights. I think that is more accurate picture of my weight, even though I know it actually continues to fluctuate. I just did that this week. It was actually lower at the same time last year but I had been eating in a rather unusual way for a while. Around last June, it seemed like I tripped some kind of over eating wire and I did gain weight. I think I did not record that higher weight. I had been wanting to get it back into better control anyway, but having the year change to 2020 and a new decade inspired me. I am making some changes which are a little more complicated than normal, but so far it’s been pretty easy to cooperate with the plan. I live alone and rarely have to try to please anybody else, so I have nobody but myself to contend with. If my life becomes more social, it might be A little more complicated, but I’ll do my best to figure that out when the time comes. I keep saying I’m going to get more vigorous exercise in more consistently, but honestly, that hasn’t happened yet. However, I’m not condemning myself for it. I know that my weight is down from its height last summer, but even more important is that I am eating in a way more supportive of my cognitive abilities. Thankfully, it also supports the rest of my systems, too! How about that. 😉

Sorry I haven't been on much at all in any of the teams. Just too busy with work and other stuff, and getting even busier with the new tax season starting. Congrats for getting out and doing stuff and trying to continue to eating healthy.

I have been staying around 162 -163 for years now. But now with working full time in the office and pulling a lot of late nights working from home too, I am down in the 161's and staying down there so far. But if I go back up that would be okay with me too. Not so worried about a number on the scale, more just about trying to eat healthier foods and not binging on junk food. I still will eat chips or crackers and such on and off. But they are not the first thing I grab to fill hunger or bordom with.

Well take care, I will try to check in when I can. But I have a ton of bookkeeping to do with a tight deadline to get it done. I usually get about a month to finish it, but this time with the new tax season starting the boss wants me to try to get it done in about a week, so that is a lot of pressure on me right now. Take care

Have been to two doctor's appointments with an older friend. Things seemed bad but are looking up for her, but it makes me glad I am getting the oomph to stick more closely to an eating plan I feel is better for aging. Her problems were not caused by eating, but it just shows we never know when things can change for us and we don't have the freedom to pursue life as we did before. Got to get moving more. Less writing Spark, more moving Spark!

Got an acting class tonight: the first one that is really devoted to the basics of acting. I'm a little nervous because I was supposed to learn about five lines of script. Not long, but it's almost a tongue twister, rather like e.e. cummings poetry, if anyone knows what that is. I sometimes have it, but then I'll go to say it again and I get tripped up. I THINK I want to be a serious student but then I procrastinate on something so basic. Well, we'll see. I know someone who is in a master class by the same teacher. It started last night. She thought it was great. She already has a scene with a partner and they are supposed to have at least half of a 15-minute scene memorized by next week. A new acquaintance in a walking group I'm in took the class I'm in before. They had to write a little scripts that they then acted out. She loved the writing but not the acting. I'm the opposite: give me a script! If learn it, I'm happy to go on stage. I swear I'll start sooner next time.

I've instituted a new eating plan. Actually it's not that far off from where I've been but I am experimenting with 10 or fewer added sugar grams a day. That is about the amount in a few squares of high cacao dark chocolate, almost as if having no sweets. I still use stevia in my coffee, usually one big cup a day, rarely two. I avoided ever cutting any food out of my life previously but as I age, there are such good reasons (brain health, anti-aging) to cut way back on sugar . In fact, I may have already done a fair amount of damage because I was such an intense sweet eater in middle age and a lot of the foundation of aging is started in middle age. But I can't change the past, so I can do what I can do now. I don't live a life where I have people pushing desserts on me a lot, so I have no one but myself to contend with. I don't feel anymore that I am giving up anything that I somehow "deserve." The brain and cells know nothing about deserving anything. They are just machines that will do whatever they do with the fuel I give. Of course, it's all an odds game. Some people will overeat everything and live long, relatively healthy lives. Some will follow the best rules and still develop problems. But for now, I'm willing to give myself the best odds I think I can. Then if something happens, I'll at least know I did my part.

I did go to the class; it was a little strange. Most of the people have been going for a long time: I wonder how much they've progressed. It seemed more like a way to keep the brain "jumping" than really learning improv. When I walked in, nearly everybody reacted like, "Who is this? Fresh blood?" One of the men complimented me for a skit I was in; then I saw him at a senior dance yesterday, and I had to beg him to dance with me. Geesh. The class is free, so I will try it for a few weeks at least.

The senior dance was probably the eighth or ninth time for me. There was another man from the class there. I asked him to dance as well. We did, he said nice things, but never asked me again. I felt like I was working hard to get conversation out of him, though he was smelling and saying complimentary things. He didn't ask me anything. We had actually danced at two other dances, but in the improv class, he didn't remember me at all, just as he hadn't remembered the second time. Is it that I don't stand out, or no one does at these things? I danced with a sweet man who had a very strong accent. After sitting with him and his wife for a bit, and he kept talking in a way I couldn't understand, his wife told him to stop speaking Hebrew. As they walked away, she confided in me that he is in stage IV Alzheimer's. Holy moly. But he could dance decently.

Trying to motivate myself to go check out a senior's improv class early this afternoon in Balboa Park. Finally getting to clean out fridge. MUST finish dishes and clean sink. Thought my maid was coming today but it's next week. Getting ahead of the game! Kicking myself a bit because it's been sunny and gorgeous for days; now it's overcast and chilly but I didn't get out before. I still can. Not really that cold. I will take bus to improv class; that involves some walking for sure.

I tracked all the foods from the fridge I wanted to eat today as dinner and then divvied them up. The freezer is darn full! No more buying anything except greens and carrots until I get the freezer organized.

Took the bus (I got a 30-day senior pass for $23) to a science lecture in Balboa Park- how nice it is to have a team that knows where I'm talking about!- then stopped on the way home to climb the parking tower at City College twice. I still got in fewer than 5000 steps. Drat.

On plan with food today. It's such a good feeling. It helped that I took some lunch with me to the park. I found the boots I wore, which have felt comfortable in other environments, were not right for an extended walk in the park. I lost momentum at home. Will likely walk with a Boomer group tomorrow by Mission Bay, my first time back with them in about a month. That hour with them makes a real dent in getting to 10,000 steps. My phone tells me I averaged around 5,000 a day last year. I had so many low count days that I'm optimistic about improving the average. I have to keep remembering how much it contributes to brain health. I want a brain that can handle old age like a younger person!

Wow, I have been gone a long time!

The trip was not so fun, not worth many details about it. I am feeling inspired to make the 2020's a new chapter in several ways. I feel I am ready to get to the next level in healthy eating and movement, and to be more vigilant with strategies to deal with anxiety and brain health. I vow, even as I sit here, to get outside in the sunshine more, as several cities I have on my weather app, because I know people in those places, have rain, snow, or overcast. Yet I know some of those people get outside for a walk nearly every day! My eating mentor walks to work in Cambridge every day, too. When asked why he walks to work, he says his boss would fire him if he didn't, sidestepping the weather issue. I don't know if he wears Nikes, but he sure just does it.

Going to tap dance, after a four week hiatus, at 1.

Doing my winter season autophagy plan, on day 3. It's more precise than I like to be but it's for a good purpose and not forever. I will probably be going away for the weekend for a yoga retreat, right up the alley of disciplined eating. Going to have to pack some food, but that's fine, too.

Wish I were a better leader or whatever it takes to have an active team. But I'm pretty sure there are very few active members, though the roster looks big. Most have come and gone.

Going on a trip to Mexico- won't get into the details of why I am not superexcited- on Tuesday for eight days. Am a wimp enough in "winter" that I am looking forward to the warmer weather. Geesh, how many cool days have we had, 10?

Pleased with my eating on Thanksgiving. Was going overboard a bit this morning with so many easy leftovers around, though no real junk, so put my foot down. Will enjoy a dinner I've waited for.

Will be aiming to eat just about all the food n the fridge besides condiments i before I leave. May have to freeze some. Went to an Indian friend's for txgiving and have several servings of great peanut dal! He avoids leftover food - ayurvedic tent-and cooks way too much, so I benefit. Or maybe eating leftovers is taking a toll I don't know? But it's not a habit I am willing to change right now.

Maybe I should call this the monthly chat? I've been so out of it!

Too much to go into detail but have had the organizer come four times and I am so pleased! I've been involved in some of my acting stuff and am developing a sweet friendship with a fun man. I may have met a new friend at a meetup Wednesday. We shall see. Have to keep preparing for an audition MOnday night and will go to a dance class in Encinitas soon.

Pro organizer came for second time yesterday. So worth it! We have gone through every item in my storage/garage- except some paper and photos, the sentimental stuff she said I can go through later since it amounts only to a little more than a regular sized cardboard box. Oh, also Xmas stuff, but most of that is in some kind of container anyway. I determined which items live in the garage and which in the storage area for now. I still have steps to take to clean, donate, or try to sell, but the rest of it went out with the trash or recycling today. But in essence the worst is done. What a feeling! I have her coming next week to start on my yard, which I warned her will not be as easy because I am not as ready to let some of that stuff go. However, she said she does not feel she is supposed to convince me to get rid of stuff but just to make sure I have considered the full situation.

Two victories in the decluttering: found a shoe I had been looking for for a year and a half (accidentally got put in bag with leg brace I had for broken metatarsal). I LOVED that pair of shoes and could never bring myself to throw out the one I still had. I also realized a strange knob that I was about to throw out went to the stand for the dulcimer I bought nearly five years ago but rarely took out of its case. I had just happened to have a musician friend set it up for me a couple of days before, or I wouldn't have known the knob was missing. Serendipity!

I am in a play this weekend. There are six 10-minute plays being staged at North Park Vaudeville and Candy shop on Friday, Sat, and Sun. and I have a major part in one. I think it might be the only serious one in the bunch. It has suspense. My director is very pleased with our performances; I hope he's right about us! Not that I really care but I would like to do a job that is a little better than some of the community theater stuff I've seen on youtube. I have a dress rehearsal this

I'm doing my special eating plan (three or four times a year) because I knew I'd be keyed up for the performance and might have been prone to nervous eating. I couldn't live with this kind of rigor all the time, although I do aspire to less random eating than I sometimes get into, but the rewards are worth it, even though they are mostly mental as I don't have any blood tests done to check the results. It's not for weight loss; the doctor (Ph.D) who formulated the plan has found that many of the good effects last between repeated bouts even if the person doesn't greatly improve their eating, but I also aspire to use his ideas for longevity as well. As I said in a previous post, it can be challenging, especially in social situations. But I don't want to give up, either. I feel lucky that I don't have a LOT Of pressure from other people to eat any certain way.

Still have not eaten the cake and was only slightly even tempted once. This is progress! It can sure take a long time-years. I have been rereading The Hungry Brain, being reminded how powerful the forces are against moderate eating. He even says at one point on his website that not all cases of obesity can be reversed but that does not mean that people are not better off eating less industrial food. He eats an incredibly restrictive diet by the American standard and he has never had a weight problem! His brain research has just shown him how seductive and damaging sweet, seed oils, and added salt can be. It has continued to dampen my pleasure in eating out and that does feel like a bit of a difficult loss. I have lost all my weight still eating a percentage of outside prepared food that I am not comfortable with any more. But honestly the trade off is not as easy as the other ones I made to get here. I might be repeating myself but I believe as I get older that rather than giving up I want to increase my odds of healthy aging and there are only a few ways an individual can influence that. Eating is a MAJOR one, but one that our culture is in huge ignorance or denial about. Even slim cultures eat foods that shorten their healthy years. But maybe the fun is worth it? Traditional long lived cultures eat incredibly plain food by our standards because they lack access to easy strong flavoring and refined foods.

Geesh, when am I going to learn to write a blog?

Not bad with food most of the last few days. I planned for tuxedo mousse cake from Costco for my birthday. A few slices are wrapped in the freezer, but they have not been calling to me. I went to a little discount store today because I had a coupon for 25% one regular item; I did get a microdermabrasion device. Not cheap but certainly cheaper than professional sessions. I have run into a woman I know over the years and her skin looked terrific. She said she has been using one for years. This one had very good reviews online. But the reason I brought up the store is because I often buy some kind of snack food there and today I passed it up. I am hoping I have broken that habit. Lord knows I have eaten plenty of that food in my life so it's not as if I'm missing out. I don't even say I'll never eat crackers or chips again, but really not often. (In fact, I ate some chips and hummus sample at Costco>) I just feel I get more pleasure and sustenance from what someone calls "wet carbs": whole grains that are cooked in water, not ground into flour with the liquid basically baked out.

My Aging Creatively dance class has resumed. It never had a lot of attendees but I was the only one today. I don't actually prefer that, but it's in a community where I'm guessing it isn't likely to get as many takers, even though it's free to seniors and I know there are plenty of them in a 1-mile radius. But it's only the first week back after a 4-month break. Then again I think we rarely had four people at a class last spring. It's not really a very efficient use of the donated funds, as it came from a grant. I know if I donated money for such a purpose, I would not be happy that so few people show up, since the dance teacher gets paid the same amount. I don't know much about marketing, so I don't know how they could attract more people, and I doubt they want to spend a lot on it since they don't make any more money just because more students show up. Oh, well.

Good night and may we all have a sane day of eating tomorrow.

Had three events in a row yesterday and then fell apart in my eating. I don't think it was because of the packed schedule. I developed a habit of eating after a weekly meeting and it proved too strong to kick. I wonder if I had had my dinner more firmly in my mind, so that I could look forward to it? That's a behavior strategy that used to work for me. So maybe I should do that today, though there is not the same obstacle.

Got to get out! I"m considering walking to the bus to go to Costco to get another jar of a delicious pesto they make, but it is one of the foods I went overboard on yesterday. Maybe I should just try to cobble my own version of it for now. They don't use the best oil anyway.

Rehearsal went fine. Sunday I went to my philosophy meet out of town, then a short stop at why was supposed to be a small music festival where I didn’t hear any music until the last few minutes I could stay because I needed to get dinner for a friend I had invited over before we went to a fundraiser for the Shakespeare society.

Got in my yoga today, plus a gentle dance class and a couple of hours of prepping and freezing some food for easy meal assembly.
