Hi all!

I'm also new to Buddhism.
Have been around SP a while, but have had little time for many reasons to focus on me. Now that I'm finally doing that I find myself turning more and more to Buddhism.
So I figure why not give it a try, it all feels very right.

Best,
Malin

Welcome Frank! emoticon

We Share with others, so we can truely give to ourselves.

It's not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change and others are not.

Character - the willingness to accept responsibility for one's own life - is the source from which self respect springs.

Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory.

Thanks Frank! Welcome to you also! I had a great day today. I sat in the hall and breathed mindfully while my daughter threw a screaming tantrum inside her room for 10 minutes(she's 2) and felt amazed at myself after it was over for just being where I was instead of feeding into the chaos. I feel like I am a much better parent when I practice being mindful and following the ways I know are right. It is a really good feeling to have after a very chaotic past year!

Hey Lindsey.

I have not been practicing that long. But i am also currently following the buddhist path to see if it is the right path for me and i feel the same as you, so far so good. I find that my own beliefs are quite similar to that of the buddhist path. Some people might say that they are old fashioned beliefs but they have served me well throughout life so far.

Like yourself i have just signed up to the team and i wish you every success in your spark adventure and happiness in your buddhist path.

Frank

I agree completely. I would love to be closer with people who are more like what I believe in. I have actually been practicing the positivity replies when people are talking negative and it has helped a lot. I think my issues lie more in me staying calm than how others are acting. I really need to practice keeping myself and emotions steady when outside factors affect me. It's that "peace from within" part I am trying to work on. I hope through good advice and practice I can become the person I want to be. All I know is that I am happy I am on the path.... emoticon

I would like to address your concerns regarding "negativity from others" simply by saying that it is not that they will change but instead YOUR view/ideas and interaction with these people will change, as it should. The peace comes from within and hopefully you can be a good example for them. I have found in my life that first of all, I never allow someone to continue talking poorly about someone who is not there (they learn quickly not to come to me for gossip). Secondly, when someone is being negative, I return response by introducing Not an excuse but a more positive perspective. This too, will discourage people looking to share their misery from seeking your company. You may feel a little "outside the circle" at first but certainly your mind will be more stable and will be preparing for you to meet and become friends with likeminded people, which is where, I assume, you would like to be. Right?

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the support and encouragement and knowing that there are other people with similar emotions out there. I am meditating daily and feeling much better about things. I am finding it challenging to incorporate the calm I find through meditation throughout the rest of my life (i.e. while watching my daughter throw a tantrum, dealing with negativity from others, etc) Do you have any good advice about how to practice this or make it any easier? Thanks again!

Lindsey

Welcome!!! Hope you enjoy this site and it's principles. If you don't mind.... prior to my deciding on Buddhism I studied several other eastern philosophies. I will cut it short simply by saying I rather enjoyed the book The Toa of Pooh (Benjamin Hoff) which you can read very quickly but I encourage you to allow time and take some notes whereby you spend time connecting the dots from the book into your reality/life.

Simple messages are sometimes the most difficult to comprehend. The brain often insists that things just can not be so easy when in fact, they certainly can. Pay close attention to your gut (your inner Buddha) as it is your silent best friend with an occasional ignored word. Trust in yourself so that you can trust and believe in others. Good Luck in your studies and choices. Remember there is no wrong answer just some that apply better than others. Feel free to write. Jill

Welcome!!! Let me know if I can help you in any way with your exploration. I am an old grizzled Buddhist, but besides having a baby, we have a lot of the same issues, things we are dealing with. I have been trained in many of the schools of Buddhism and would be happy to share resources that have helped me along the path or help with questions.

Good luck, hope you find what you are looking for! bob

Hi!
I am in the process of exploring Buddhism and deciding if it is truly the path for me. So far so good I have always been drawn to learning more about it and in the last 5 years have been dealing with anxiety, loss of a parent, birth of a child, and just a sense of being lost. I am trying to find my way here and want to take this very seriously. I am here for support and guidance and hopefully a few laughs along the way. Nice to meet everyone and thanks for welcoming me!
