My name is Darlene but like to be called Dar. I had heart problems for over a year but not it got worse. I've been to the ER this past month and part of last month 4 times in a row on a Wed. Last week I gained 18 pounds in 4 days and found out it was water retention I've gained and they got me on water pills and that night and the next day I lost 12 of the 18 pounds I've gained. So that is a little bit of what I'm going through. I have a 2 daughters that are married and my youngest daughter and her family lives with me in a one bedroom apt. I lost my husband 14 yrs ago in Shelton were I use to live and now I live in Tacoma, Washington. I'm a christian lady and loves the Lord very much cause he comes first in my life. So that is a little bit of myself.

Dar

Hello all!
About me : My name is Trudi, I live in Oak Creek CO - elev. 7414 ft. growing season 59 days. I'm 5 ft 2ish and weigh about 122 lbs. I was diagnosed with high BP in my mid 40's. Controlled it with medication and low sodium diet. I continued to smoke cigarettes and had those 3 - 4 glasses of red wine - daily during the week, more on the weekends. Fast forward to 2010 - I woke in the night so short of breath I thought I was going to die. I called Colorado Quit Line the next day. They sent patches, gum and helpful info and I quit smoking the day I received the items. Dec. 10 , 2010. I haven't touched a cigarette since. But I continued to drink the wine until July 2015 - I got so sick from drinking too much I swore off wine forever. Two weeks later I started hitting the vodka - at first in iced tea, or cola (1 pint a day). I continued this until Dec.. 2016. I had a doctor appt. to adjust my BP meds. The doctor took one look at me (I was having really bad water retention) Took my vitals and said " I refuse to treat you, what I AM going to do is call an ambulance - you are going to the hospital. My BP was like 200/108 or something and my weight was close to 150 lbs. I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and high BP, mild COPD. I stopped drinking right then.Went home 16 lbs lighter, and on oxygen which I stayed on for a month. After a month I was finally able to go back to work. I did great until a co-worker who had become one of my best friends, passed away from a long battle of colon cancer in March 2017. I started drinking again. Only a half pint a day and not every day. The habit gradually increased to 1pt to 1.5 pts per day. I had an allergic reaction to my BP meds about 3 weeks ago. The doctor took me off the meds and said we'll see how it goes. Well as soon as the allergic reaction was cleared I bought vodka and drank it. The next morning when I checked my BP it was sky high. Scared the living sh*t out of me. I started the DASH diet that day. I have not touched a drop of alcohol since, and never again will. My BP is maintaining at good numbers and most days lower than when I was on medication, and I've lost 5 lbs. Sorry for rambling on, I know it's probably too much info, if so feel free to delete this post.
