hi. i'm not new but I am. let me explain. I was on SP about 3 years ago. I also started that journey about 40 lbs lighter than I am now. I did lose, but I let life get in the way. I am almost 300 lbs and it SCARES me. (272 last I checked). I have a 6yo daughter that thinks that being a mommy means you get fat and stay that way. she even noticed I don't eat like her (she chooses a whole plate of fruit vs my none when we go out) I want to be a better role model for her, and my son who is as tall as I am and getting heavy himself. (11yo). I have back issues ( I cant stand long enough to wash dishes) I am starting slow, I have been exercising my back for the past few days (logging) but not logging my food intake. one step at a time, maybe?

emoticon to the team, PUNKDOUTIVORY. You are not alone. Like so many others here, motivation is good and then tanks when depression steps in. The good news is that this team is here to help you succeed in finding that healthier and happier you. Remember, take small steps by starting with small goals so you don't get overwhelmed. Each and every healthier choice you make really does make a difference.

Hi. I'm not new to SP, been here off and on for awhile, but new to this group. The reason I keep coming and going is that I get very motivated, then my mood tanks and I lost all motivation. I'm hoping to stick with it this time and meet my goals, as I feel doing so will not only help with physical health, but mental as well. Anyway, not sure what else to say, so.... hi!

Well, I am not new to SparkPeople, It seems I keep coming and going, this is my third time, my intention is to stay this time. My need is to get in shape and healthy and stay that way. I am talking physically, mentally and emotionally.

My doctor wanted me to speak to a counselor about some issues I have been having emotionally and mentally. He is afraid I am going to get suicidal, which I have before but not for quite a bit now. I spoke to a counselor like he asked and I was tested for PTSD, for those who do not know what that is, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, it is brought on by having one or more traumatic events happen in your life. I am now being treated for the disorder.

There have been many traumatic events in my life that concerns being beat, guns pulled on me, thrown through doors and windows and many other things. Life has been difficult but I have made it through. However, being this type of thing has occurred my entire life with every man I have been with, I no longer trust men as far as I can throw them. There is a large fear in me about getting out there and starting to date again. One day I will, maybe soon, or not for awhile.

I am hoping by joining this team I will get the support for the PTSD and the other things that I have going on right now. I thank you for listening.

Life is what you make it, so make it the best!

Have been around SP for quite a while and just discovered this team.
Have been depressed since childhood and wasn't treated until I was in my 30's which was a very long time ago.
Have been dealing with medical conditions for the past 30 years.
That doesn't help!
Doing much better now and getting stronger daily.

Hi, I have been on sparkpeople for awhile. I was diagnosed with Dysthymic Disorder about 10 years ago. I was on medication for awhile but haven't been now for about 4 -5 years. I had pretty much dismissed it has over and done with but I'm beginning to realize that my continual exhaustion and struggling to keep up with all the things I need to do is a symptom. I am realizing that the vitamins and coffee and things are just a way of medicating myself to keep myself going. I think I need to get on some meds. I'm curious if there is anyone who has this disorder and has overcome it? According to the internet it is incurable but I really hate the thought of having to start paying for meds again. :(

emoticon to the team, SWEETONE111. I'm so sorry you are struggling so. The good news is that you sought help. Depression can make exercise difficult, but not impossible. What a number of our members do is set a goal of 10 minutes of movement a day. While it crazy, it really does help. Once you get started, many times one ends up clocking more than 10 minutes because it "feels good" physically and emotionally. Whatever you do, never give up on yourself.

hi everyone. I'm new to this group but not SP. I was diagnosed with depression last year which really threw me for a loop. I knew something wasn't right but I just thought it was stress and I wasn't handling it well until my DH convinced me to seek help. I'm so glad I did. While the depression was really taking a hold of my life I gained 30 lbs. I thought that with meds I would be able to lose that weight but I've managed to gain another 15. I'm generally feeling much better but still quite unmotivated when it comes to exercise and I'm still indulging in emotional eating. I'm now feeling quite panicked about this and need to do something about this before my health is impacted. I saw a post on my Facebook feed by SP about exercising while you have depression which lead me here. I don't know why I hadn't thought of it before. I've been reading the posts here tonight and am excited to have joined the group.

The happiest people in the world are not those that have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything they have.

Care deeply...

Welcome to the place to vent what makes you unhappy.

Read some the other comments and see if you relate to one or two. Then let them know.

FACEURFEARS, I can relate! Motivation is the hardest thing in the world! I lost 60 lbs two years ago. emoticon I looked and felt great. Helped to keep moving!

Six months later I get colon pain - pain pills. It took 5 months to resolve. Then I get shoulder pain - pain pills. It took another 5 months to resolve. Up 30 lbs and I'm having a heck of a time getting motivated. emoticon

My way of dealing with this now is remembering one wonderful memory. I have so many! Children memories, grandchildren memories, vacations, cruises to the Carribean Islands, boyfriends.

SO! It's hard work but I am now working on one happy memory and when I start to feel sad or nothing - I go back to that one happy memory. I also make a to do list of 3 things to get done. Housework (ICK) I break down into each step (such as, dust living room, then vacume living room, load dishwasher,) and scratch off what I did. it could be one thing or two. The next day I make a new list. I also will put on the list- read, sew, get out of the house, live in the moment. emoticon Sounds like a lot. But baby steps are the way to go. emoticon

All who is reading this can do this.

I'M WORKING VERY HARD TO PRACTICE WHAT I PREACH!!!! emoticon

HAPPY! HAPPY! HAPPY!

Building my bucket list and enjoying the ones I've accomplished!!!
I quit smoking and have visited 34 out of 50 states, went to Disneyland in 2014 for the first time, had African lobster in 2014, and went to second hand stores in Laguna Beach Cal.
Enjoyed a Thanksgiving Dinner in 80 degree weather in Cal. For the first time.

Six weeks during March and April of 2015, I completed four times a week with a trainer. Wow! at the age of 63!

I totally relate to the bazillino time....and the same 10 lbs...right now Im at about 7-8 lbs lost,,and until it hits 11...or more...Im not over excited. Doesnt mean Im not happy. It just means I know I am changing something different this time ( my thinking) to push past the 10 and keep going.

Here's to pushing past and trusting ourselves enough (and God) to know we can:)

Hi Faceurfears:) That's a long time to struggle so much. Sometimes just doing the basics...is what you need. Get up...shower...start. Just start. You might think Im a bit crazy, but I have struggled with depression at one point...quite a low point in life. I had heard something and tried it...I do it to this day. I put on comedy. I know it sounds like the last thing you'd want to do.

God says laughter is the best medicine and He is right. Back then, I loved the show, MASH. There's scientific evidence that laughter changes the chemical in our brains. Not kidding. What have you got to lose:) Perhaps focus on the bare minimum right now...and work on your 'spirit' ...

I do remember getting out of bed facing 7 kids WAS A CHORE ( for a period of time) Please be nice to yourself...but also?...Require something of yourself. Anyone around you to help is nice, too. That you can be 'gut' honest with. You can do this.

Don't let 50 lbs define you as a person. It's just a part of life you'd like to change. It isn't who you are. I hope you check in often. Every day. Twice a day? Every hour? Do what works. I'd love to hear back from you,,,here,,,or friend me/email me.

emoticon REDDMARIE7. What a busy life you lead with 7 adults kids and 23 grand-kids! This is indeed a great place to find motivation and support. Sometimes it comes simply by reading someone else's post and how it resounds in our own lives. While each of our lives are so different, they really are similar in many ways. Thanks everyone. Mrs. Toad that's great advice. Nitrous/Jayme I forgot to mention I'm stuck in that 10 lb range too, up and down and up and down. I don't know, but lately I am not as focused on the weight, and feel like if I just focus on healthy habits (physical and mental), and support via things like SP, the weight issue will correct itself. I feel like it's a symptom, not the cause of my problems.

Hey FACEYOURFEARS, how do you like that SP activity tracker? I am thinking of getting one too bc my phone is a little older and can't use the latest step counting apps.

FACEURFEARS --

In the words of Winnie the Pooh:

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh," said Piglet at last, "what's the first thing you say to yourself?"

"What's for breakfast?" said Pooh. "What do you say, Piglet?"

"I say, I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?" said Piglet.

Pooh nodded thoughtfully. "It's the same thing," he said.”

Hi, I'm new to this group. Been battling depression for the last 4 years! Have gained around 50lbs and are miserable. I am struggling right now in just getting the smallest things done. Personally if I could stay in bed all day, I would. My motivation level is so low. Nothing inspires me. I am so tired of being this way but just can't seem to snap out of it. Tired of all the medications that make you comfortably numb. How do you find motivation on those dark days when getting out of bed seems like a chore?

Hello everyone:) Im 'new', also, though I've been making my rounds like crazy in the last couple of weeks. New in 2010...new, again. lol I think I joined this group back in the day. I've visited several others, according to age...but just popped in here, today.

First,,Mrs Toad? You're very supportive..and so on top of things! That is way cool:)

What caught my eye was the poster who mentioned adhd. I, also, have it,,and have known it for many years, but never used meds till after 50 yrs of age. Imagine.

I feel like I'm sort of 'discovering' something, reading so many ppl's stories. I'm seeing how food is such a crutch. Medicine. A way to internalize stress and whatever.

It's one thing to hear that over and over in the billion books I've read on weight loss and every other 'issue' in life..lol...but to really 'get it'...is taking some real effort and time. It's obvious I use food in a manner in which it's not intended...and of course I eat emotionally...yadda yadda....why don't I write a book and get rich??? lol

We all could. I'm determined this time. Maybe it's cuz Im 59...and the clock is ticking...I always was a hard nut to crack. I think one of my main goals right now, besides the obvious stuff (tracking, exercise,,not that those are easy) is to really let the 'cliche's' sink in...

Like...Im eating emotionally...do I try to 'sit' and just 'feel' the stress and not 'feed' it. Im really trying, on a daily basis to look at those 'moment's'. They come often. Sometimes hourly. Or more. Wanting to eat. It's like wanting a cigarette. I almost don't care about the 'food rules', because for me I'm really starting to see it's not about the food. I don't have it all figured out. In fact, I'm really just starting...but what DOES feel different this time,,,is I'm seeing that those things that make me reach for food,,,are the things that I need to reach for something else. People. Support. Practical things. Dare to take a chance on myself lol

Im a talker:) I don't aplogize. Having a captive audience is kind of energizing lol

Have a great day. Take one thing,,,and do it well. One Day at a Time is my new mantra

Thanks for the welcome FROGGYDOWN! I love the story behind your username, it's cute! Mine is just an old nickname from high school, followed by my birth year. Nitrous has just kind of become my official handle online, since I've started playing more online video games. My real name is Jayme, which I've used before as a username on here.

Hi folks, I'm Rachel and I'm new to this team. I also just joined the "other" depression SparkTeam (our competition!), the one with "with movement" in the name. I have never been in any kind of online support group for my depression but I have found SP in general a very supportive and encouraging environment in the past when I've been active, so I'm hoping that'll be the case for The Big D too. Depression is really holding me back. I need to figure out my life.

For my first order of business I will welcome the person below me on this thread, NITROUS87, to the team. Welcome NITROUS87! What does your username mean? Mine is just a silly nonsense phrase we say in my family. It can be used to mean whatever the user wants. For example:

Dad: "Rachel, feet off the coffee table!"
Me: (protesting) "Froggy down!"

Good luck to us all on our journeys.

Hi all! I'm mostly new here, been on the site a few times in the past, been part of this team a few times as well but never posted much as my depression was kept pretty well in-check. I'm back to trying Spark to really get serious about my weight loss, and trying to keep up on team memberships to keep me engaged in the site.

Just a little background, as far as weight loss goes I've tried a bazillion times to lose and always end up slacking off on what I know works after a while. I've been stuck in the same 10lb range for longer than I can remember, and I'm ready to get rid of it. I know that tracking my food is one thing that always has worked for me, which is why I keep coming back to this site. I did Weight Watchers for a few months last year, and was doing pretty good then, until my budget had to be made more strict and I couldn't afford meetings anymore. Then I put the weight back on again. I could write about this all day, but I'm trying to keep this short!

I've had ups and downs with my moods for a long time as well. I was diagnosed with depression when I was 15/16 (I'm 27 now). It took over my life for a long time, but I've been able to mostly keep it in-check since college with counseling and supports in my life. My mom is my biggest supporter in everything, and I always talk to her about things. My current boyfriend is a great support as well, especially since he has dealt with depression in the past as well. We support each other now when things are going bad. I've never been very active in this team when on here in the past, because things were going good, but lately I find myself feeling sad and disconnected more often than I'd like. So I decided to join back up here, and hopefully can find some brightness again while working on improving myself!

I have been on this team for a long time but haven't touched SP much in the past few years. I discovered that I can do this on my kindle fire rather than my 2009 computer.
If you remember me, I started food stamps for the first time last year. Ugh. My finances sucked last year. I think this year will be better.

Thank you guys! I will definitely check out the new members guide and some other threads tonight at work. So far, so good. Met my water intake yesterday, making healthier food choices, and this is day 3 of weaning me off my zoloft - no withdrawals! Starting to feel less discouraged about this entire process.

Hi everyone! I'm not actually new to SparkPeople or this team, but it's been many months since I last logged in and many years since I first joined SparkPeople. I'm trying to get back on track with my health. I've had a rough couple of years, and an even rougher time in the last 2 months. I've updated my SparkPage if anyone wants to take a look. Feel free to add me as a friend as well.

Chris~

emoticon to the team, THERHAPSODY89 aka Nichole. I'm so glad you were referred to this site. It is a great place to find motivation and support when the world seems to be collapsing around you. If you haven't already, check on the team's threads. There's a wide variety of topics and a great place to post or just peruse.

Hey, my name is Nichole! Been dealing with depression and anxiety for a few years now. Started seeing a new psychiatrist last week who recommended this site to me. He also took me off my antidepressant and cut my anxiety pills in half. So here we are.

You have joined a great group of folks that are taking the same journey as you; that is, to find healthiness both physically and emotionally. If you haven't already, check out our other threads. There's a lot going on within this team. If you need anything at all, please feel free to ask.
