Hi my name is April. I'm here because I've decided to participate in the Eat Clean Diet Challenge on www.eatcleandiet.com. I've put on 36 pounds since getting married about 3 years ago but I think my antidepressants really sped up the weight gain. I would like to at least get back to that weight if not 10 to 15 pounds lighter. emoticon

Hi,

I am new to this forum. I used to eat clean before I got married, but then didn't keep up with it. And after 2 kids and 10 years later, I need my health back. So I found Tosca Reno's books and am so happy to be here and get on track. I have about 85-95 lbs. to lose. I am 4' 11" and weight 205 lbs.

I feel great, eating this way again. I just started exercising yesterday again too.

I want to be healthy for myself and for my kids. I want to climb a rock wall with my daughter and would like to run a 5k with her at the end of the year (she is 10 and in a progam at school called "Girl's on the Run").

I also have a very high level of heart disease risk (CRP). My level is 26 (much higher than what it should be) My doctor said I need to work on getting that down signifiantly. I asked him how and right now he said diet and exercise so I may not have to go on medicine for it if I can get it down with diet and exercise.

So, I have my work cut out for me and am glad for groups like this to keep me motivated.

Margaret

Hi. Just getting started, but am already thriving off of your success stories - so keep them coming please! Isn't it the best to hear about someone with your similar stats who has had the success you're working toward - doing it this way!!

Eat local, eat clean, be organic, and can someone please bring yoga to my town! emoticon

This is a great forum. My husband and I are clean eaters most of the time. We only buy our fruit and veggies from either the local farmer's market or Whole Foods. And we are adamant that the food is organic and local. We do eat meat / poultry but only free range and organically fed. As for fish, 90% of our fish is sustainably fished. We have a fishmonger who is able to supply fish that's caught that morning! As for dairy, we buy organic milk and locally produced artisnal cheese. Yep, we be clean food snobs...

Hello! Just joining. I have spoken with a nutritionist, and am re-doing what I eat. I started yesterday after speaking w/ him, and today was my first full day. I have given up my soda (caffeine source in the am) and sugar (replaced w/ Splenda) in my morning cereal. I have given up bread, and just did turkey & 1 slice real cheese. I am tired, and I think that my body is in shock. (ha!) But, I am doing this.

I'm a bit of a mixture of things on SP. I see a nutritionist who recommends eating closer to South Beach, but I am finding myself bored with the restrictions on whole grains and other foods.

I'm subscribed to Clean Eating Magazine for a few months now and I've read the books. While I'm not sure exactly how I will eat this week, I've decided to follow one of the 2-week eating plans from the magazine except that I am going to mix up meals for the day.

I already feel like I betrayed my nutritionist this morning because the first breakfast was Kashi Go Lean cereal, 1/2 cup milk and a small banana. She would frown on the cereal, but it sure was good.

I'm basically here to check in every once in awhile and see if I can pick up some good tips. I've been on and off SP for years now, but this past time I've stuck with it since August and I'm not quitting.

HI,

New to this team. I had a great 3 weeks of detoxing and then went to the doctor's to get tested for Celiac disease and she said I had to eat wheat for a month before the test, which I kinda knew. Unfortunately I couldn't stick to my plan of just eating bread and I just went crazy and starting eating dairy and sugar, too. But, I must say that I did continute to not eat hfcs and most processed foods. So, I feel I've made some progress. I just want to get the results and soon and figure out what I can and should eat or not.

Hello everyone! This is my third attempt to join the clean eating team...website savvy I am not! Hopefully I pressed all the right buttons this time; I'm new to SP. I was SO happy to find this team. I found the Clean Eating magazine at the grocery store and it was love at first sight. I have lost 25 pounds in four months with clean eating. As I cook for the entire family, everyone else is now healthier, too. I can't wait to check out all the threads; I already want to run out and get Tosca's book! See everyone around! CIAO for now.

Hi - New to Spark, but I have been trying to eat clean for 6 months now. For the most part I succeed - namely when I am preparing meals for myself - and I've lost almost 30 pounds already this year thanks to clean eating and regular exercise. Like a lot of clean eaters I have an unintentional saboteur for a spouse, so I thought this team would be a great place to find some comrades and motivation!

If anyone knows of any good clean eating restaurants in chicago, I'd love to hear about them!

Hi I'm new to this group as of today actually!!
I have been with Sparks since the end of March 2009.
I've been trying to eat clean every day for over a month now. I'm just slowly understanding what it is all about. I hope to learn a lot more here.

I have been eating steel cut oats, raw fruits and veggies and loving it!!

We can do it! One day at a time. :)

My name is Sandy. I am 56 yr old,and I reside in Iowa (wooHoo!) I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2004,which was the catalyst for joining S/P. I have last around 60 lbs.

Because of health issues,I have decided a change in lifestyle was mandatory. This will NOT be easy for me, but I'm worth. I'll have lots of questions, but I'll try not to be a hemorrhoid.

Hello. I'm sort of new here. I hadn't introduced myself yet because I couldn't find the time, and now that I'm laid off... well, now I have time. lol.

So, my name is Sophia, but Isabella works too (middle name), so whichever you feel like using. I live on the Charlton/Sturbridge, MA line. I'm 26. I'm not sure what else to say, except that I'm ready and willing to throw myself into something new, now that I have time and less stress on my hands.

Hello! My name is Robin and I have been with SP since January of this year. I've lost 25 pounds so far and couldn't be happier! In March, I began to move more into a vegan/clean diet and LOVED IT! I fell off the wagon this last two months due to a new relationship (that is now sour and over) and plan to get back into the CLEAN EATING lifestyle full force :) It's makes me feel so good and FREE to eat clean! Anyway, hello all and I'm anxious to meet more that share the same lifestyle goals. CHEERS!

Hi my name is Stephanie. I am not new to SP. I joined last year and stayed around a few months and then "fell off the wagon". I am back and this time I plan on staying around.

I didn't know it back when I was a kid, but we did eat clean at that time. My mom cooked a well rouded meal every night except for Friday nights, that was pizza night. When I was 17 I got my own apartment. I didn't even need a kitchen, all I did was eat junk food.

About five years ago I followed Eat Right 4 Your Type, which is eating according to your blood type. For me it meant no pork, wheat or dairy. I ate lean meats, veggies, fruit, brown rice etc.... I felt great and did that for almost 4 years. Then something happened, don't ask what because I don't know I just reverted back to eating poorly! Stupid, very stupid. I am back on track and I love Tosca's recipes!

I look forward to meeting new people here and getting new tips and recipes.

If you spit in the wind...it hits you in the face!

Hello all!

I've been working on my weight for just over three years and am down just under 100 pounds. I did the first 70 on my own and then got stuck and found sparks.

I dropped another 20-25 or so on sparks and overall things have been going well. However I'm burned out when it comes to logging my food. I've tried to quit logging a few times and it just hasn't worked for me yet.

I found out about clean eating early this year. Interestingly it's not far from how I eat now. I would estimate that I eat about 75% clean, maybe close to 80% on some weeks. Through trial and error I found it was a pretty good way to fuel myself for marathon training.

A friend of mine was in a similar boat and had some good success transitioning to nearly 100% clean eating and she gave me Clean Eating for Men.

So, here I am.

hello! my name is rebecca, and i've been doing the spark thing for almost a month now. since then i have been a faithful food tracker and do my best to eat lots of whole foods, get in 5 meals a day, etc. just last week i was reading a celeb magazine (my evil indulgence whenever i get on an airplane!), and it mentioned clean eating. huh? then i found this team. sounds like clean eating is exactly what i've been trying to achieve since overhauling my diet! i'm excited to learn more about it, and fine-tune my diet even more to get the most i can out of what i'm eating. not to mention the Tosca Reno books give me a great excuse for a trip to barnes & noble :)

Hello everyone! My name is Kristy. I just joined the team. I'm not new to Sparkpeople though. I started last June. I'm restarting my journey, due to a lot of recent stress that put my old one on hold. I just graduated college (I was a non-trad student that went off and on for ten years), and since Easter my husband and I had three deaths in the family. My husband is in the Coast Guard and just moved to our next station. Currently I'm a couple states away waiting for our house to sell before I can move with him. So, right now I have a lot of "me" time and am doing the overhaul on my diet that I wanted to without the husband enabler, lol. I can get started the right way. I've recently read Jillian Michael's new book "Matering Your Metabolism" which is the science behind why organic, whole, natural foods are the way to go and I am about to try it!

Hi, I first heard of the term eating clean about a month ago when I saw this team. I've pretty much been eating that way ever since so I thought I might as well join the team.

Along the way I've pretty much cut out sugar and hfcs. It's amazing how much better I feel. About a week ago, I was bored one night so I decided to have a diet soda that was in the fridge. It didn't taste good after 3 weeks of eating clean. That's very cool for me because I used to drink them all the time! Now all I drink is water (by far my main beverage), milk (a little), tomato juice (for the lycopene) and occasionally coffee.

hey all. i'm new to the eating clean team. I've been on the spark on and off for a year or two, but just now getting geared up and taking it seriously.

i got tired of my body never feeling quite right, so i've started eating clean. i'm new to it. haven't bought any books or anything, just doing it on my own. I'm tired of eating processed foods that have more ingredients that I don't know than the ones I do know.

I'm looking forward to falling back in love with whole foods, fruits, veggies, all that goodness that the earth grows!

Hi all, my name is Tina.

I'm new to eating clean and just bought Tosca Reno's book plus her cookbook and so excited to get started. I'm going to spend some time reading today and then tomorrow I will be starting this new way of eating.

I have tried so many different diets and have failed miserably and often gained after quitting because I'm so confused about what to eat. There is no question in my mind that this is the healthiest way to eat and I'm happy that I don't have to cut out a food group!

Looking forward to feeling and looking great!

~Tina

I am new to this team but not new to Spark. I am here to learn how to rid my diet of the craptastic crap I have been eating. There...I admit it.

Hi My name is Tiana and I have been on sparkpeople for 10 weeks now almost. I have the hang of the portion sizes and I have the water down pact, all I need now is to work on eating cleaner! I have already started just by staying within my fiber range, it takes alot of fruits/veggies to do that but I really need to get my sodium under control. Hopefully I will find some good ideas here

I can't believe I am down over 70 pounds since last year!

Hi from California

I just recently joined the Spark Team. And one of the things I found is the eating clean message board
and it opened my eyes to a new world for me. I am into my 2nd week, and lost 6 lbs the first one, by dropping everything with more than 3 ingredients in it, at least that is what I am striving for. I am in the process of getting rid of all things in my house that don't work with becoming a clean food person. I tried the vegetarian thing several years ago, and stayed with it for 3, cutting out mostly red meats. But I didn't have the tools to see what I was actually eating, for nutrition. Sparks has given me that. emoticon

Getting and staying healthy is not an option, it's a lifestyle.

Hello all from MD!

I've been an on-again-off-again Sparkie for a little over a year. I've made little progress.

I do lots of research on diets. Almost to the point of obsession. I first heard of clean-eating from reading another SP member and started doing the research.

I actually started to implement the program on Monday. What an amazing difference so far.

I'm sleeping better and getting up more easily. I've been in such an awesome mood! I'm so thrilled to feel like I'm actually doing something that's working!

Now I just have to try to fit more exercise in!!

Hey there - fairly new SPARKster here! My eating plan is already a lot cleaner than it was a month ago (YEAH) but, I do have a long way to go.

I haven't read the Tosca book - I will look for it this weekend. I like the syopsis on the "What is it?" thread and those actions look like the food part of healthy living to me. So, I want to keep taking steps in that direction.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you as we all move along in our healthy living adventure!

I posted in the other Clean eating group...but then realized that nothing was really going on and it was all old posts...so this is what I wrote....Hope to get some great info and motivation here....

I have read Tosca's book and have her cookbook...even had a chance to meet her...very cool. (I'll have to dig that photo out) Anyway, when I started to think about weight loss and eating more at home, I got into crock pot cooking and easier meals at home...but then I started to feel like I was cooking a huge pot of sodium and chemicals and letting simmer all day...yuck. The deal breaker was when I had some Tyson ready made chicken for my salad as I opened my salad bowl at work getting ready for lunch, it smelled like chemicals and additives and did not taste like chicken....double yuck. So I have cleaned up my diet a bit at a time and am just more aware when I do buy a ready made product, that I can identify the ingredients..at least until I can get better at this whole thing.
I am a subscriber of Eating Well Mag and have a few if their cookbooks....love them!!

Sharon

I'm new! Just moved to Saskatoon from Calgary last month and trying to be both health-conscious and money-conscious! I want to start making my own things instead of buying the over-processed foods at the grocery store. We've planted a garden (and keep adding to it every weekend) so we'll have lots of fresh veggies all summer, and I'm going to start visiting the Farmer's Market for some other fresh and unprocessed (or at least less-processed) food.

The team was recommended to me by someone on another team I belong to, so here I am!

Peace & Blessings!

Hello from NY. I have been with SP on and off for a few months. Recently, I came across the book by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. "Eat To Live". I can't put it down-it has so much sensible information and I'm only half way through. I also found your team forum and I love all the good info and advice. I can't wait to try the Clean eating lifestyle and learn all I can to improve my eating habits. I am adding fruits, grains, legumes, and vegetables to my diet slowly and very steadily. I am seeing some improvement. I joined an exercise club and started to workout the last week of March 09. I have a lot of weight to lose so I am just taking it in steps. I'm looking forward to learning and sharing goals.

New to the group, was doing so well eating clean and got down to 140 about a year ago. Problem was... I was still smoking! Not clean! So I got rid of the ciggarettes and gained all the weight back because of chocolate! But I am getting back on track now! I am getting ready to put my veggie and berry garden in, buying more and more whole grains natural foods and making the Healthy meals again! Not worried about the extra weight because without smoking I feel AMAZING!!!!

Hi! I really try hard to eat clean. I love any kind of vegetable and fruit. My problem is cooking. My husband is in great shape and can eat AnYtHiNg he wants and doesn't gain weight. (by the way he hates practically all veggies other than mashed potatoes and cream corn....) I feel like I workout harder than he does, but gain 5 lbs by looking at it. ha! I am looking for tips on how to cook healthy, but still taste good.
