Hi Laura!

I have 2 kiddos (15 and almost 13). My son is on the autism spectrum so I totally get the "special needs" side of parenting. It's tough and so easy to stop taking care of you. Please join us on chat....just a handful of us, but I find it is great support as we can get to know each other easier.

My name is Laura, I am a 48 year old substitute teacher and I live in Kyle. Texas between Austin and San Marcos. I have an 8 year old little girl named Katelyn, the light and joy of my life. She was born with significant special needs so I have spent the past eight years taking care of her and have completely stopped taking care of myself in the process. I had a wake-up call right after Christmas when I stepped on the scale and saw the biggest number I had seen in my life. I also suffer from very high blood pressure (which is how I lost my mother) so I decided right then and there that I was going to turn it around. I don't consider this a diet, more of a lifestyle change. I refuse to cut out all the foods I love, I have just found new ways to prepare food, I make healthier choices and have learned portion control. I have dropped 22 pounds since December 28th and I am looking to lose another 23. I started this journey with a friend who has since kind of dropped out and so I'm going it alone. I am grateful to have found this group so I can get some support. I have been stuck at the 20-22 lb mark for over a month and I need to get push through. Exercising is difficult for me because I have a bad spinal condition (three herniated discs, bilateral sciatica and arthritis in my neck and back) I am doing this with diet alone. I am moderately active being a teacher and all, I average about 3500 to 9000 steps per day depending on if I'm working but summer is coming so I need even more support to keep on track. Wondering if any of you are in the same boat as me? It's not easy when your child's needs are so significant. I'm going to do this though. My goal is to reach my target weight before Thanksgiving. Looking forward to getting to know you all. Thanks for listening.
