Nice to hear about everyone!

SBALVIS1 - DS etc seems regional. I have not bonded w/ the terms - but DO know what they mean... DS is affectionate term for son (dear, darling), DD for daughter, etc

Hi everyone! This is the 1st new team I've joined since January when I started Sparkpeople! You all sound so great. I'm looking forward to getting to know you! So, here's my list:

1. I am a 44 year old Mom to 1 amazing 7 year old son - the light of my life and the reason God put me on this earth, I'm convinced. Besides my son, I also have two awesome step-son's, ages 16 & 23, who live in Germany. I'm very blessed!

2. The only thing I KNEW I wanted to be as a kid, was a wife and mother. I think that comes from having such great parents!

3. I married my sweetheart at age 35 (first and only marriage), pregnant at 36, baby at 37! For many years I doubted that my dreams would come true, but I've learned that things happen in God's time and for good reasons, if you just have the patience to wait for them!

4. I am an RN and work nights in a busy ER in Indianapolis. I also work as the nursing supervisor in another smaller hospital in our system. My schedule is erratic, at best and sleep is my favorite hobby.

5. I've always struggled with my weight...however, now looking back, I realize that when I was a kid and into my 20's most of it was self perception and society's pressures. My goal weight now is that very same "fat" weight from "back in the day".

6. I actually have a B.S. degree in Exercise Science and Fitness and worked in the wellness field for 8 years. Despite having the knowledge and experience, when I went to nursing school, my weight ballooned. When I got married and then pregnant, it ballooned even more. Having the knowledge and living the lifestyle are two completely different things.

7. For the first time, I feel like I've captured the brass ring! I can be successful at changing my unhealthy ways and I feel like I've been given a chance at a new life. I love when people notice my weight loss...for the first 35 lbs everyone just thought I changed my hair.

8. We love football at our house..GO COLTS and NOTRE DAME IRISH!

9. I'm pretty good with the computer, but have no idea what all the abbreviations mean. I could use some help with DH, DD, etc...am I showing my age!?!

10. I love being outdoors...the only thing better than the sun on your face, a mountain stream or an ocean breeze is the sound of a child's laughter (especially my son's) or a snuggle hug from my boy.

I have been watching for a few weeks trying to come up with 10 things about me...here goes...

1. I have 2 beautiful children (a 5 yr old girl & a 7 mon old boy).
2. I am married to the man of my dreams (red hair and doesn't eat tuna fish - couldn't ask for more emoticon ).
3. I teach 5th grade in a small town in central NY state.
4. I have had a life long dream to work in publishing. My bachelor's degree is in english/writing.
5. Dark Chocolate and coffee are a daily habit (in moderation of course)
6. I swam competitively on a boys' team throughout jr & sr high school (we didn't have a girls' team).
7. I had 2 miscarriages in the year before I successfully delivered our son (which was a trying pregnancy too). Physically and emotionally they took a HUGE toll on me. I thank God every day for our son.
8. I love to shop for just about anything. Believe it or not I enjoy grocery shopping. Shhh, don't tell my husband.
9. I find great joy in being outside - gardening or just laying in the sun reading a good book.
10. Some day I want to live by the water (fresh, not salt).

Well, that wasn't as hard as I thought once I got going.

I am Lynn. I am 40 yo (soon to be 41) and I have 4 biological children and 5 step children. They range in ages from 24 to 4. I have been on and off Sparkpeople since January 2007. I get going really well, maintain the momentum, then lose it. I want to be able to do this consistently.

1. I had my first DD at 17, and my twin DD's at 19. Yes I was a mother of 3 at 19. Then I met my DH at 35 and had my DS at 37.

2. I skipped 2nd grade and graduated at 16.

3. I come from a very small town in the south and I am proud to be southern.

4. I have lived in three different states: GA, MS and FL.

5. I am a girly girl who doesn't mind doing boyish things. My DH loves that about me.

6. I am not religious. I am spiritual. My church is by a creek in the mountains surrounded by nature.

7. I have a 3 yo DGD. My oldest DD and I are raising our children almost like cousins even though they are actually niece and uncle.

8. If I could do anything right now it would be go to college. That is my #1 regret is that I put everything in my life in front of that.

9. I have a very large family. Family get togethers usually have a minimum of 30 people. I thrive preparing for these. I love to cook and entertain. It's how I show love.

10. Being southern I tend to cook like Paula Dean. I've spent the past ten years trying to make my recipes healthier but still just as good as the original. It's still a challenge, but I enjoy cooking and experimenting.

Hello all, I am thrilled to be joining your group. Ten things....
1. I have a sixteen year old daughter and a five year old son. Her father died when she was 18months and I was a single mom for six years before I met my husband. We tried and tried and when we gave up, that is when our wonderful son entered our lives!
2. We live in a small town in Illinois.
3. I am a social worker who works with families and am so passionate about my work.
4. I have struggled with my weight for years. Of course there have been a few bonus years in there where I was thin, but for the most part it is a struggle for me
5. My weight is affecting my son and husband. They are getting heavy and I want to stop this vicious cycle.
6. We have an australian shephard, and two cats that found their way to our house.
7. I love wii fit.
8. I love mini golf, but am not very good at it.
9. I love shopping with my daughter, I just want to be able to dress more in style.
10. I love spark and can't wait to get to know all of you.

It counts, even when you don't count it.

10 things about me....

1. There is only one life event I would change if I could, I would have brought both of my boys home from the hospital, other than that my lifes experiences have made me who I am today.
2. I've lived 42 of my 44 years here in the state of Maine. I live in a small house (too small for three people) in a small town and can go off for the day and leave my door wide open and don't worry about whether or not Michael is safe playing in the yard and really couldn't picture it any other way.
3. I have a degree in Business Administration, spent most of my working career in Accounting with the exception of a 10 year career at a local newspaper (layout and sales). My last job was a controller for a car dealership, grew them from a small used car place to a multi franchised dealership but became a SAHM when we brought Michael home from the hospital also couldn't picture it any other way.
4. My favorite types of travel are tropical locations, I'm sort of a fair weathered kind of girl(odd since I live in a state where winter is extremely long and sometimes brutal).
5. I learned to scuba dive at the age of 39 and have only made one dive, it seems everytime we plan a dive trip I get pregnant (but miscarry).
6. I am true to my water sign (cancer) and spend as much time around, on or in the water as I can.
7. I'm currently working on opening a pool that hadn't been opened in five years, let alone covered...ewwwww! The water went from black to swimable and I'm working on teaching Michael pool safety.
8. I would love to have another baby, unfortunately I've miscarried the last three pregnancies, but at least hubby is now a bit more receptive to adoption.
9. I was once a material girl and collected gold, diamonds, rubies, emeralds etc now I enjoy collecting sea glass, sea shells and sand from the beaches we visit.
10. I hate housekeeping and it shows! I would rather go out and push a lawn mower than wash floors. LOL

I am really slow at getting to this thread, but our internet was down for almost two weeks and it is taking me some time to catch up. I really agree we have a very interesting group of women here!!
Here are my ten in no order:
1. I am 51 a SAHM with six kids, 26. 24, 21, 16, 11, 7. No grand kids, but that is fine as I still have a young one at home. The oldest three are all married.
2. We live in China and it is both an exciting and sometime frustrating experience. But it is always an adventure. I grew up in MN, and have also lived in Colorado, Virginia, and a short stay in Germany as a foreign exchange student.
3. I have homeschooled my kids for the most part with a couple kids doing public when I needed a break. I LOVE teaching kids to read. There is nothing like hearing them read their first book by themselves, knowing that this skill will and can bring them anyway in the world. We home school here as international school are WAY to expensive.
4. I love crafts and rotate between quilting, sewing in general, knitting, weaving, needlework, scrapbooking, card making etc.
5. I also love to read and right now I am prereading my daughters American literature books. (Moby Dick anyone?)THere are so many of books I never read in school and I feel like I am getting a second education.
6. I am enjoying getting back into an exercise routine. I love to walk and have recently started to run. I swore I would never run, and it is getting easier. I am toying with running a 5 or 10 K race in Oct.
7. I am a follower of Jesus and love to teach women in Bible studies.
8. I just celebrated my 30th anniversary with the man I love and we spent the night next to the Great Wall. It is our first and only marriage. When people see the wide gap in the ages of our kids, they often ask if this is a second marriage.
9. I do love to cook from scratch and I am also thinking about writing a cookbook for the expats here to help them around a chinese grocery store and how to make western foods from what we can get locally. I recently taught myself to make pita bread. It is so easy!!
10. I love my tea and coffee, in that order.

Denise

Kristec -
We were at Tech from '93 to '98. It seems like yesterday, not 10 years ago. I still visit at least once a year. I have two god-daughters that live in Christiansburg.

Okay -- here are 10 things about me:

1) I will be 43 in July (and am okay with that for the first time in years)! Although sometimes I feel very old.

2) I have been married to a wonderful man for 8 1/2 years.

3) My beautiful son will be 3 next weekend. He was born in Guatemala and has been home with us since he was 8 months old.

4) The most adventurous thing I have ever done in my life was to spend 14 days by myself in Guatemala with my son to complete his adoption (our agency dropped the ball in the end). Of course, I was at the Marriott and well taken care of but I have panic attacks and don't usually venture out on my own to new places.

5) I worked for Montgomery Ward for close to 10 years before they closed. I covered the stores on the east coast (lots of travel).

6) We moved from the Baltimore area to the Pittsburgh area last year to be closer to my family.

7) I am now a SAHM mom but am working on getting my teaching certificate in Pennsylvania (I currently have one from Maryland) so I can begin to substitute teach part time this fall. Unfortunately, my husband had to take a huge pay cut in our move and I have to go back to work a little sooner than planned.

8) I love to read mysteries with detectives and the main characters.

9) I have six nephews all under the age of 7. It gets very noisy at family gatherings with 7 boys under the age of 7!!

10) I joined Spark people last year but only got serious in January. I am only now branching out and finding Spark teams that seem interesting to me. Glad to have found this group.

Hmmm, 10 things. Here goes, in no particular order!

1. I just turned 40 two weeks ago--not too happy about that, to be honest!

2. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I am a late night person-- and mornings are NOT my specialty. My husband laughs that our 4-year old son seems to take after me this way.

3. I love playing piano--9 years of lessons as a kid was enough to make it enjoyable even if just plunking some familiar notes when I get the chance.

4. I'm addicted to Sudoku, and starting to try Kakuro.

5. I love to sing, though currently don't have time to do so in any organized way. Used to sing in Sweet Adelines (women's barbershop) before my son was born.

6. I come from a pioneer family--my great-grandparents founded a town in Washington state, and our family still owns 300 acres of original homestead land out there.

7. I'm a displaced west-coaster living on the east coast--I love the changing colors of fall leaves, but miss the evergreen trees of home.

8. I enjoy cross-stitch occasionally.

9. My job has taken me to interesting places--I've been to cities on 5 continents, but have yet to adventure into Asia or Antarctica. I'm not too keen on Antarctica, though...

10. One of my greatest inspirations outside my family is a student group for which I am an advisor--I advise our campus chapter of the Do Random Acts of Kindness club. It's amazing the kinds of nice things they come up with to do for others, without any expectation of thanks in return.

Hi. I'm new to this team and to Sparkpeople. I found this site while looking for places to keep track of my weight, food and exercise. This one had all of that and for free. I'm a bit nervous about joining as my name is Tracy too. I do hope that I eventually get to meet her.

My 10 things.
1. I am tall at 5' 10" and my daughter is already taking after me. I'm almost 48 years old.

2. I married when I was 36 after meeting my husband through a newspaper personal ad. Neither of us had ever married before nor had we had children.

3. I have one daughter who is now 9 years old. She was concieved the old fashioned way after almost a year of infertility testing. We were considering adoption at the time that I became pregnant with her. In fact, I had made appointments for our physicals to start the adoption process and got to change mine to a prenatal visit!

4. I am a counselor and worked for a community mental health agency for 17yrs before starting an online counseling business 2 years ago.

5. I am now a work at home mom and I love it so very much.

6. My husband is a farmer and we live on a farm in North Dakota. Many people ask me if I farm with him. I do not but I love living in the country and watching the wildlife pass by my windows.

7. I love to read and sometimes buy and sell books on Ebay.

8. I love online gaming especially mahjong and pinochle.

9. I love to play pinochle and play every week with my in-laws. One of my dieting downfalls is all the snacks and treats my mother-in-law provides on cards night.

10. I was skinny until after I had my daughter at the age of 38. It came as a surprise to me then when after I lost weight, I had to stay mindful of what I ate. I had never had to worry about keeping track before. As a result of not knowing that, I gained all the weight back plus until I ballooned up to almost 100 pounds over what I should be.

Remember the serenity prayer. The only person I can control is myself.

Hi! I'm new to Spark People, well, at least I'm new to the message boards. Not sure how they all work, but I guess I'll try to figure it out.
I will post 10 things about me...

1. I just turned 47 last month, and I have a 22 year old daughter, a 20 year old son and a 5˝ year old daughter.
2. I am engaged to the father of my youngest, and we met online...not a dating forum, it just happened!
3. I am probably only about 5-10 lbs heavier than I want to be, but now that I'm older, my metabolism has finally changed and I can NO LONGER eat ANYTHING I want, like I was always used to. I have new flab on my belly, and I hate it.
4. My problem with eating is that I love fries, breads w/butter, cheese, pancakes...you get the picture.
5. I don't eat sugar, for the most part.
6. I love my coffee, especially Starbuck's. Gotta be black and strong!
7. I just got laid off from my job about 5 weeks ago and truthfully, I have no idea what I am going to do. I am the main breadwinner for my family.
8. I enjoy exercising, but there are times when I put it off.
9. I love reading magazines, beading, scrapbooking, camping, dogs and did I mention Starbucks? LOL
10. I love thunderstorms!

I'm not new, but newly returned from having dropped off the SP wagon for a bit :(

I'm Adrienne, 38, married and mom to one little 3-year-old diva princess.

1. My husband and I met on Match.com.

2. I'm a devout agnostic with leanings toward Buddhism, Taoism, and Unitarian Universalism.

3. I love playing online RPGs and used to be an avid role-player for many years.

4. I took Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Chi up until recently and was about to test for my 3rd degree brown belt before I had to take time off when I was pregnant.

5. I was a die-hard Trekkie for many years.

6. I love to dance and would love to take lessons one day. I would really like to be a choreographer.

7. If I could go back in time, I'd like to have gone to art school after high school and pursued my dream career as an interior designer.

8. Up until I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, I had fully intended to never have children.

9. I love to try new, exotic foods.

10. I am addicted to Welch's fruit snacks.

"This is the beginning of a new day.
I have been given this day to use as I will.
I can waste it or I can use it for good.
What I do today is important because
I am exchanging a day of my life for it.
When tomorrow comes this day will be gone forever,
Leaving in its place something that I have traded for it.
I want it to be gain, not loss; good, not evil; success, not failure;
In order that I shall not regret the price that I paid for it."

Ramona - Great idea and thanks for helping keep this group active!

I am Kriste, 43

1 - I was raised an Army brat which gave me lots of wonderful experiences and changes, but no sense of "home".

2 - I met my husband in Freshman calculus class - it was a slow courtship and we married 1 week after graduating.

3 - our gorgeous and talented daughters are a huge joy to both of us and the answer to much prayer!

4 - I am part of a leadership team at church with a women's Bible Study. I love when people open up, are honest, share real struggles, and see what faith can do!

5 - I work PT (3 days a week, EARLY) and love the balance it provides in my life!

6 - I love social dancing - contra is my favorite, but I like square dancing too.

7 - I love to sing and am in a choir at work. (yes - work, not church ;) )

8 - I love to cook and my daughters wonderful eating habits are something I am proud of.

9 - I am overweight from stress eating during my sister's illness (she died Feb 2005), my love of treats, and inactivity. I am conquering the inactivity - stress eating and gluttony w/ treats are still a struggle.

10 - I'm not a fan of the telephone! I prefer email or face to face interaction!

Kriste's weekly goals: ST 3X; cardio 2000 calories burned; eat better

I was originally going to make it '25 things about you'... but I didn't want to intimidate anyone. My suggestion would be that if we want to add more to our lists that we just edit our original post and everyone just go back and review occassionally! Then we each have this 'on-going bio in progress'! I look forward to learning more about everyone!

Fun!

I'm Nell. I'm 44 and have two boys 4 and almost 2 and a wonderful husband. My sister turned me on to Spark and she's one of my biggest motivators. My children are my motivation!

Here are my 10:

1.) My parents divorced when I was 4 and my father remarried twice. I have a lot of steps and half siblings and it's hard to keep track sometimes.

2.) I have lived in a lot of places: Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, and now Maine.

3.) I have been very fortunate to travel a lot in my life: Europe, Scandinavia, South East Asia. I wish we could afford to travel more!

4.) I earned my BA in Historic Preservation but work in IT now.

5.) Before I met my husband, I was in a 9 year relationship with someone who sucked my energy and confidence out of me. Thank GOD I never married him. I still can't believe I was such a fool to stay with him for so long... The only good thing is that because of him I moved to Maine, where I met the love of my life.

6.) My husband and I married (first for both) at 38. First son came at 40 and the second at 42. I am so completely blessed for these three beings in my life.

7.) My mother passed away three years ago from Lung Cancer. I'm not sure I'll ever get over this incredible loss. I miss her so much it hurts.

8.) I quit smoking 8 years ago and can't believe I ever smoked. YUCK! But oddly, I still crave it every now and then - mostly when I'm stressed out or very sad.

9.) I love to cook, garden, fish and do crossword puzzles. I'm trying to teach myself how to sew and knit.

10.) I never thought I'd have children (or get married for that matter.) and I am so thankful that I have the life I do now. I adore my little family and can't imagine life without them.

Nell

Great thread, Ramona. Thank you for starting it.

I'm Jane; I've been on SP since Sept. 07; I'm in another long plateau now, but I hope that changes soon.

I'm nearly 48; have been married nearly 27 years to my high school sweetheart. We have three children, two boys and a girl. My daughter is in the middle. She is 13; my sons are 17 and 7. Here's a few more of my 10 things.

1. I am geographically boring! I've always lived in the Chicago area, and have moved exactly 4 times in my life--when I was 4, 21, 23, and 27.

2. My oldest was born by c-section; and my two youngest were born at home.

3. I am a big breastfeeding advocate. I've been a La Leche League Leader since 1994, and LLL is a big part of my life.

4. I've been home schooling for 7 years. First my older two children; now my younger two.

5. I do a lot things part time: work, home school, volunteer, keep house.

6. I don't like to cook and I'm not very good at it.

7. I also stink at housekeeping, but I like things organized. Mostly I hate to dust and scrub.

8. I took the long road in college and changed schools and majors. Eventually, I graduated with a degree in English, after being an engineering major. I skipped the math minor, although I was only two classes away from one. Physics almost killed me.

9. I worked in publishing for years and have written and edited books, journals, tests, workbooks and all sorts of other things.

10. I'm the 4th of 5 kids, and was a shy, quiet child. Now, my mother claims I can never shut up.

Guess I'm making up for lost time.

Dancingpenguin, just a thought about the c-sections: Please, please, please don't feel like a failure. First of all, you brought two children into your life, it doesn't matter how they came out. You shouldn't feel bad about this, you are a mother and that is what counts.

I have actually had four c-sections. Believe it or not, I kind of loved (most of) them. My first was an emergency c, so that was not fun at all, obviously, but I do look at the fact, that if he was not born by emergency c, he would not be here today, and ultimately, that is what matters.

After that one, I had three more. I know that the 'norm' is a vaginal delivery, and I guess a c-section shouldn't be a choice, but if it were my choice, I would, hands down, opt for a c-section. A c-section birth is very calm. You have a good time during the 'delivery'. I joked with husband, doctors and nurses. The music was playing, we were all talking, relaxed and enjoying the moment. We were all excited that our baby was almost here. With a c-section, after a short period of time, out comes a beautiful little baby. Yes, there is pain for a couple of days after and a discomfort for a couple of weeks but the meds help that and you wean off of them when you are able. Bleeding is also much less than a vaginal delivery.

I have three friends that have had vaginal and c-sections and they all said that the c-sections were easier overall. I have a fourth friend who had 1 c-section and 2 vaginals and doesn't feel that way, but her c-section was a serious emergency and there were lots of complications.

Overall, I do think a c-section is easier. And that's not to say that a vaginal delivery is bad and I certainly do not want to make women that had vaginal deliveries feel bad. Ultimately, whichever way you can have a baby (and this includes adoption), is great!

Please don't feel bad about your c-sections. You are a mom and have 2 children that you love. That is what matters.

Linny

What a great thread. I'm Sue, I'm 45 and have been married to my best friend and soul mate for 11 years. We have two sons, ages 9 and 7.

I joined Spark People back in June of 2007, planning to lose some weight before my brother-in-law gets married next month. I never dreamed of the wonderful community I would find here.

1. I have lived almost all over the US: New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Illinois, Puerto Rico, Missouri and now back in Illinois.

2. I majored in biology in college.

3. I worked in various areas of biomedical research for over 20 years before becoming a stay-at-home mom about 3 years ago.

4. I love to read - mysteries and some romances.

5. I love to cross stitch - there are several pictures of my work on my Spark page.

6. I love to sing and have sung in the Church choir for many years.

7. I had breast reduction surgery about 5 years ago and it's one of the best things I've ever done.

8. I love to exercise, that isn't where my weight issues originate.

9. I know a lot about nutrition and healthy eating, I just seem to have trouble applying it.

10. In person, I can be quite shy until I get to know someone.

What a great idea for a thread!

I'm 42 years old and married to a wonderful, funny guy for the past two years. We have a 14 month old daughter who is a pure joy of a child.

Here are my ten: emoticon

1. I make fantastic cupcakes...really. They are mini-melt in your mouth delights that i love to bake for friends.

2. I was born in Spain (my mother was Spanish) and raised there; i didn't come to the US until i was 17 so i could attend college.

3. I LOVE to travel. Italy, Spain and Hawaii have been my favorite places so far.

4. I'm pretty handy with a camera. In fact, taking photos is a passion for me.

5. I met my husband on e-harmony. (no, lol, we aren't on any of their commercials...yet!)

6. I love to garden-although i've killed a lot of wonderful plants, many have survived and have done beautifully.

7. I speak Spanish (it was my first language)

8. I use to run marathons in college (and finished, too!)

9. I celebrate birthday, holidays, national holidays....i'm always up for a celebration!

10. That my dream was to always have a family and a good husband. I am beyond blessed in this area and i make sure that i thank God daily for the wonderful life and blessings that He has given me.

What a great thread!

I'm 46 years old, married to the best guy I ever met, and have two children ages 5 and 2. I've been married for 16 years, so we had lots of time to travel and do all the things we wanted to do before we had children. I used to have a high fallutin' job, now it's all about the nińos.

My ten:

1. I have a PhD in geology

2. I'm a twin, and no, we are nothing alike, I don't even think we are from the same planet!

3. I'm a stay at home mom, and I'm happy being one most of the time, but I do find myself daydreaming about going back to work someday.

4. My answer to the question "What would you do if you knew you could not fail?" is always, "write a novel," so why don't I do it?

5. I was born in Iowa and raised in Minnesota. I went to graduate school in Texas, and lived in Oslo, Norway for 2 years as a newly wed. ( Ethnically I'm 100% Norwegian, so living in Oslo, getting to know family there and learning to speak the language was a life transforming experience.) I've also lived in Atlanta and in Ohio.

6. I'm a devout Episcopalian.

7. I live in Colorado now and hope never to move again (unless it's because I've won the lottery and am moving to a villa in southern Spain)

8. I love to travel and have been all over North America and Europe. I can't wait to go to New Zealand someday.

9. I would rather have a small number of really close friends than to be a Queen Bee.

10. I love reading mysteries, cooking, knitting, all kinds of music, hiking in the mountains, camping. I'm weird about organizing, like getting just the right basket to put something in. My husband thinks I have a basket fetish, but it's really about containerization.

Never, never, never give up.

3. Family is very important to me.

4. I am very social and friends mean a lot to me. I love girlfriend chats and girls night outs.

5. I love to entertain. I also cook and bake everything from scratch.

6. I am originally from New York, then lived in Los Angeles and now am living in the midwest.

7. I collect old toys - the ones that we grew up with but are probably not safe for our kids. lol!

8. I love rock music.

9. I have a store on Ebay. I enjoy it a lot.

10. I would love for all of us to get to know each other better :)

This is a great idea, considering all the new members who've recently joined.

My name is Candace; I am 49 years old (will be 50 next month) and am currently married for the second time. I have a 28-y.o. son and 24-y.o. daughter from my first marriage. My son has a 4-month-old baby boy, so I am also a grandma!! 5 years ago I married my current husband and we have 5-year-old Elizabeth who was a great surprise! DH has cancer and kidney disease and had just begun a round of chemo; I was on birth control pills and lo and behold, I got pregnant!! So our planned 2-year engagement and big wedding in Canada, where DH is from, was exchanged for a small backyard wedding here at home.

I joined SP in March 2007, after gaining a lot of weight with my pregnancy and being unable to lose it. I had never had a weight problem, but having a baby at 44 is not the best thing for the body!! LOL
I've met so many wonderful & supportive people here and I'm very glad I discovered this great place.

Ten things about me:

1) I am a Los Angeles native... not too many of those among all the transplants!

2) I've always wanted to go up in space. If I ever get the chance, I'm grabbing it!

3) I collect antique teapots.

4) I studied classical piano for 9 years.

5) One of my dreams is to go to cooking school. I have a lot of cookbooks and I'm always experimenting.

6) I LOVE to read and currently have several hundred books (actually never counted them). I would love to have a library as a room in my home.

7) I love animals and nearly went to veterinary school when I was young.

8) I am an accountant and work for a small landscape company.

9) I have a huge collection of CDs and love music... blues, classical, rock, country, folk, pretty much anything.

10) When I die, I think it would be wonderful to have a New Orleans funeral with a band and a big procession through the streets (I know, kind of morbid, but what a great send-off!!!).

Hi. I am Olga. I am 41 years old. I have a 10 year old son and 9 year old daughter. I have been married for 11 years.

1. I love to read, mostly mysteries.

2. I love to dance. I wanted to be a professional dancer as I was growing up.

3. I love my family more than anything in the world. Putting my family 1st is the only way to live for me. It makes me happy.

4. I work full time and wish I didn't. My job is great, but I wish I was there for my kids more.

5. I love to travel. If I ever get enough money, the 1st place I want to visit is Hong Kong.

6. I love to draw and paint. Kids and I always do art projects together.

7. I love to cook, but I hate to clean up.

8. I love old black and white TV shows, like I Love Lucy and The Andy Griffith Show. I would love to live in a world where my kids can go anywhere in town and be safe.

9. Most frustrating time in my life has been the fact that I was not able to get milk to breastfeed my babies. No matter how hard I tried and no matter how many professionals tried to help me, I did not get milk. All I got was black and blue breasts from pumping too hard.

10. I am so happy I joined SP. Not only am I loosing weight, but I am making friends with people who can relate to me.

I joined Spark last June as a 40-year-old mom of a two year old. Then I got pregnant in August and just had my second baby April 17 (age 41). Both are boys. I have a long way to go on my Spark journey to a healthy weight.

1. I got married 3 weeks after I turned 35. We eloped with a living room wedding witnessed by 8 friends from different aspects of our lives.

2. I love to play cards and have good friends to play cards with. Wish we could play weekly.

3. I'm not traditionally religious but I identify with Unitarian Universalism.

4. I spent most of my adult life not wanting kids. DH opened a window for me to consider it, and my first DS changed my mind about parenting.

5. I dance. At the moment, I miss dancing as I haven't been able to lately due to pregnancy complications.

6. I've had a very hard time coming to terms with having Cesarean deliveries for my babies, particularly the first one. I feel like a complete failure at the one thing women are supposed to be able to do. I still cry about this once in awhile, and having the second baby brought it all back to the surface recently. Until a couple weeks ago I didn't know there was a name for this condition: "Cesarean Depression."

7. My sister and brother and I are spread far apart in ages, but we each have had babies in the past three years.

8. I work at home and set my own hours. I telecommute as a program manager for a nonprofit agency.

9. Despite my weight, I've been a regular exerciser most of my adult life: walking, swimming, step aerobics, yoga, dancing, weight training, kickboxing. I walked a marathon.

10. I'm a hopeless housekeeper, and yet having all the clutter around me stresses me out. I still have the same wish I did at 5 years old: A magic wand to clean my room.

Hi! I'm Ramona, I'm 47, I'm married for 8 years, for the first and last time, to a wonderful man (his first and last time marriage, too!). Four years ago we adopted our daughter through private adoption - she was only eight hours old when we brought her home from the hospital - and I never thought I could love anyone so deeply and passionately! I have been a Spark since the beginning of January, 2008 and, while I am the 'queen of plateaus', I have lost 24 lbs. My biggest challenge to developing a healthy lifestyle is developing a sustainable, regular activity level in my life. Nutrition and eating healthy is my strength, and I love strength training!

1. 25 years ago I was living in a convent and considering becoming a nun - my faith is central to who I am.

2. My husband exactly fits ALL 30 points on the list I made, 10 years before I met him, describing the man that I wanted to marry!

3. I'm actually shy and reserved, but nobody believes me.... perhaps because I'm also extroverted, and my love of people takes me places I wouldn't go otherwise.

4. Not being able to carry a baby to term is my life's greatest heartache... even though I'm almost 50 I still long for this opportunity.

5. Being given the gift of a child to raise despite all odds is my greatest JOY! I know that I am absolutely a better mom now than could have ever been earlier in my life.

6. Even though my daughter is adopted, I still breastfed her.

7. I LOVE to dance - our next house will have a hardwood, cushioned, full-size dance floor in the basement - CHA CHA is my FAVOURITE!

8. I secretly wish I could sing with a band - I'm still trying to figure out how to make it happen - and I sang on TV three times when I was a young girl.

9. I will go and live in Africa one day and help build a school.

10. I want to take several cooking holidays - the kind where you go live somewhere for two weeks and learn to cook from a master chef - I'll start in Greece, or Morocco.

Dr. Jason Fung: "Holy consensus, Batman. With so many 'experts' from Michelle Obama to the USDA to virtually all of the medical professionals (including doctors and dieticians) agreeing that 'Eat Less, Move More' is the way to go, you might think that it is 100% unquestionably true. But here's a queer thought... if we all agree that we know the cure for obesity, and we've spent billions on educations and programs - why are we getting fatter? In other words, why does this 'cure' suck so bad?

We have had an influx of new members these past few weeks.... HOORAY! Welcome to you all!

I thought that perhaps it's time to introduce, and re-introduce, ourselves. This particular exercise has been really popular on several teams I belong to, so I thought I'd start it here. It never seems to get old, and it's a nice way for 'newbies' to get to know the overall membership, and identify with whom they might have a few things in common.

So, first give a short introduction of who you are as a L.I.L. mom and Sparker, and then tell us 10 things about yourself we might not easily figure out just from hanging out with you on the threads. Try answer the question, "If you could tell someone only ten things about you, what would be most important for them to know?"
