Hi Wynd! Its so good to know that I am not the only newbie! I plan to do my first day today, too. It has been a goal of mine since I made the decision to become healthier to just be able to run a mile. I was trying some things on my own to build up endurance, and came on here looking for information. I stumbled across the C25K team and thought HOW PERFECT!!!! So, I just want to let you know that you are NOT alone in this! I'm weighing in at roughly 240 and trying to be a runner, too! lol Kinda makes me laugh, but damn it I'm gonna do it! Chunky runners, unite!!! hahaha Good luck friend! Believe in yourself and you can do anything!

I find that, for me, running is just as much mental and as it is physical. In the first few weeks, I really had to give myself some positive self-talk but it is a great feeling to finish each week, even if I had to do it more than once. emoticon

WYND!!! Have a blast tomorrow!

Question: did you get new and really good shoes? That is the most important thing, if you do not have good shoes, you will have a harder time. I have already had to buy 2 new pair because the first pair actually hurt my knees and ankles even more than my old pair. I was fitted for both at good running stores.

Also, tomorrow you may not feel the wind in your hair, and you will breathe like a maniac, but the accomplishment you will feel at the end will be absolutely amazing (I cried)! When you feel like giving up, remember all of us here. We are rooting for you and working just as hard, sweating as much, and moving just as slowly!

By the way, I actually usually jog more slowly than I walk!

Oh, and make sure you have a good sports bra.

You can do it! I just finished W4D2 and I did not think I would get this far!! If I can - you can!
I suggest listening to some podcasts though - they are free and the music with the cues of when to run/walk really help me a lot!
Best wishes on your first RUN! emoticon

Welcome to the team and good luck!! You've got this! Just go at your own pace and stick with it and you'll be running your first 5K in no time! Keep us posted.

CAROLYN, Lol.....wogging, yes I was definitely a wogger my first couple of weeks. I'm getting better now, but still really slow, and I honestly don't care how slow I am!!

Don't feel intimidated! I finished C25K last week and my first 5K is tomorrow. I know that I could probably power walk it faster, but I'm thrilled to be able to run! (or jog as it is:D )

And don't forget, you can always repeat a week. It's YOUR program. Make it work for you!

Don't feel intimidated at all. This is your race and you are not in competition. Running is one of the healthiest things you can do for your body. I was sitting in a class Tuesday night with a podiatrist speaking and he said that no matter what your size, running can be healthy for you. Just go your own pace and don't over do. That is the same advice he gives the skinny and the not so skinny. You have to ease into running no matter what your size.

Be your dream! Don't just imagine, do it!

Yessssssssss!!!! You can do it!!! My first runs were what I refer to as wogs (faster than a walk, a very low jog). It was quite a while before I felt like a runner, but I was always proud of my accomplishment. It always amazed me when I accomplished the next level and pushed myself further than I thought possible. Before you know a minute of running will be effortless. Keep at it! You are a runner! The moment you break into a jog, you are a runner!

I have felt the exact same way! Give yourself time to enjoy the accomplishment of just being out there and remember that you are not in the next Chariots of Fire movie so if you feel slow, but you're still doing it, you're a champion. This has been the best running program I've ever done because you truly can push yourself at a pace that is good for you and you always know you'll be done in about 30 minutes! Good luck tomorrow~! emoticon

Hello all,

I want to be a runner. I love the idea that I could run without being winded, feel the air whipping through my hair, know my heart was getting a workout without wanting to pound through my chest.

I weigh 252.5 pounds, so the idea that I could actually do it seemed comical to me, then I came here and I see all of you doing it, and gosh darnnit if I don't feel all kinds of inspired to give it a try.

So, wish me luck, the experiment starts tomorrow morning on my treadmill. I am going to run! :D
