Hello, Im new.
I have been struggling with my weight my whole life, however it has become a harder struggle since my Dr took me off of one of my diabetes meds for other health issues. That one was helping me loose and keep the weight off. I have gained almost all of the weight I lost going on that one. I am recommitting myself here to Spark People today, for support and keeping my eyes open to my intake and calories burned.

Hello, I am Pamela. I am 64, retired and loving it. I have been on my Spark journey for a little over 2 years. I am down 57 pounds and while the number on the scale is good what this journey has done for my health numbers is awesome!

I live in Las Vegas. Love reading, my IPad and, when money permits, playing the penny slots. I enjoy finding new challenges and situations to keep my journey fresh and interesting because I am in this for the long haul.

Persistence not perfection will get me to my goal. Slow and steady is winning my race.

Being positive is a choice. My Mantra: “Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day." Each morning seek the positive and you will have a good day. Always remember, “Your only competition is YOU.”

Happy Sunday! This is my first day on this challenge and my first week on SP. Love it so far!

I'm a 50 something wife, mom and teacher. I want to lose about 10 pounds to be on the healthy side of the BMI line.I want to avoid the chronic illnesses, include diabetes, that run in my family once people hit middle age.

I really enjoy eating most of the good healthy foods -- no problem there. However, I also love chocolate and salty snacks like plain potato chips and oil popped popcorn. Sometimes I go overboard with those, especially when stressed or snacking mindlessly while watching TV or working. I want to use more restraint and moderation in my snacking.

Good morning to everyone on Day 2 of this challenge! I discovered SparkPeople last May while searching online. As a rule, I am not a "support group" person; however, I have found that your support (as well as that of my colleagues at work) has been instrumental in keeping me accountable.

I have been less involved in the past couple months because my husband and I purchased a small vacation property, which now occupies most of my time and energy. Although I have not regained any weight, I did NOT reach my goal (7 lbs. shy.) Worse, I find myself gravitating back towards and trying to justify some unhealthy habits!

So, time to get back to work! Went to the store last night to stock up on my favorite healthy snacks; now I just have to keep away from the bad ones that are lurking around here!

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Hi, I am Linda from White Rock B.C. Canada, last month we broke the monthly rain record. Still some rain today on & off. My snacks are sometimes healthy, sometimes unhealthy, but I get my total daily nutrition correct. I do not believe in good & bad foods, it is the quantity & how often that needs to be controlled. Some weekends I go out for supper 1 day & for the 7 days before including the day of the meal I eat 100 calories less daily to allow for 700 extra calories on that day, it could be less, but not more. I plan in advance if I am going out for a weekend meal or going to have a few 100 calorie treats, not both. Most months I eat out 1-2 times for lunch or supper. I would not mind some new snack ideas that taste good, if I do not like the taste I will not eat it.

I have pleurisy, 2 types of anemia, macrocytic anemia, Iron deficiency anemia, from blood transfusions with wrong antibodies, causes blood to replace daily instead of 100 days, chronic pneumonia, pleurisy, chronic kidney disease, a partially collapsed lung, low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years. Now formed scar tissue.I am 56 years old. I had cervical cancer 6 years ago, no signs last 4 years as well. I have new blood clots now,2019.I am on P.S.T. time zone.

I'm Susan from Michigan. I just joined the challenge today after seeing it a featured article on the start page. I don't snack often, but when I do would like to focus on something healthy. Little Debbie and Lofthouse are my nemesis....if I don't buy them, I won't eat them!

Hello. I am Valerie. I too am 64years old and I am in the progress of retiring. I live in Canada and presently it is very cold and snowy. Being brought up in England before immigrating with my family I still tend to enjoy "a cookie or something sweet with a cup of tea" at snack time. Not a good thing! I am using this challenge to help me focus on making better choices. So far no pounds lost as I have just started using SparkPeople

Hello, I’m Pamela and today I will be 64. I am retired and live in Las Vegas. Been here 18 years. Formerly from New Jersey. I cannot imagine living with snow and ice again, especially at my advancing age. emoticon

Thanks to God’s grace, and my hard work, in these past 2 years, I have been able to improve my health numbers and get off of, or reduce several medications.

When I started my journey I realized that diets just don’t work for me. Oh, I have lost 100’s of pounds and They found me again. emoticon So, this time, I chose to create a new, healthier, lifestyle that includes moderation and portion control, 30 minutes of intentional exercise daily, and more movement every day. Less stress and more sleep completes the picture of living my best life now.

I am down 56 pounds, with 38 to go and no time to limit on when I get to my goal. I believe that slow and steady will win my race.

I am grateful for SparkPeople. The support and encouragement I found here is an integral part of my journey’s success.

Hi, I'm Laura
I tend to do a lot of snacking at work for energy.
My favorite shift is 1 pm to 9 pm. I wake up about 7 AM (without an alarm), do yoga at home and then go to the gym. When I get back, I have breakfast and get ready for work. So I really would like to sit down to lunch at 12 PM, but I am driving then, and of course I can't go to lunch as soon as I get to work. So I usually start snacking as soon as I get to work.

a good thing happened today. I ate cantaloupe as my first work snack.

Hi, I am Paula from Colorado. I have found that when I plan good healthy snacks, I don't eat as much junk food overall. Thinking about good food and planning it into my meals for the day has helped with my calories eaten in a day. I want to learn about new foods that can be healthy snacking. How to store these snacks so I don't have to prep daily, but can prep for several days in a week. Happy to meet all of you. And, looking forward to going on this journey with you. emoticon

I'm Marsha from central Florida. I started running to help me maintain my 80 pound weight loss and have just kept running because after more than 5 decades as I couch potato I learned I love to run! But I truly love to eat, not the meals so much, but the snacks.

I have found that I do better managing my food intake if I don't get too hungry. My husband says I eat all the time. But as long as I choose the right things it works for me.

Looking forward to learning about more healthy snacks. I do like fruit and often have an apple, a banana, or a sugar free fruit cup. I enjoy edamame snack packs. (I wish they came in 90 calorie packs instead of 180 calorie packs - I know I know, I can portion them out, but I sure love it when I can have the WHOLE thing!) Home made fresh veggie soup can be a filling snack. I often want crackers with the soup, but need to find some better ones. 100 calories of oatmeal with almond milk is a good snack for me especially near bedtime. hummus (or just garbanzos with cumin run through my Nutribullet) is great with celery sticks, radishes, pepper strips, etc. I tried an eggplant dip this week that is good.

I'm 68 years old. I weigh about 132 pounds/ BMI 21.8, less than I did in junior high school! I am in my 8th year of maintenance but honestly still struggle with food. Even though I struggle I believe for me it is worth the effort and even struggle!

Hi Everyone. My name is Sandy.

One of my 2018 resolutions is to eat less processed food and more whole foods and as part of that goal is for the month of January is to eat no processed snacks and just whole foods for snacks so this challenge came at a great time :).

So far I've stuck with it :). 5/31 emoticon

Hi. I am Cheri from southwest Georgia. I am about to turn 65 next month. I am an art teacher, I plan to teach one more year after this one. I want to be healthy and ready to enjoy retirement. I have been a member of Sparkpeople for 5 years now with a history of active and non active membership - weight loss and weight gain. I am back.
I came back recommitted 60 days ago. I am on the 100 days team and have lost 14 pounds so far. I plan my snacks. I take at least two choices each day to work. It helps me to stay on track to have three meals and two snacks a day. I am looking for new ideas instead of always having the same thing over and over.

The guys in my house are horrible snackers and I fell into their trap of chips and donuts - I am now moving out of that.

Snacking is not a huge problem for me, but it is still an issue occasionally. I want to focus on eating healthy snacks like fruit and veggies. I do my best to avoid sugars and processed foods, but there is always room for improvement. I am glad to be a part of this challenge.

Hello Everyone.

I am hear to learn to snack more effective. Snacking seems to make me hungry then I overeat. So i have pretty much removed snacking. Seeing if this challenge can help me out, especially around workouts. I also get food migraines if I don't eat often enough, so I need to find a good place.

Hi, I'm Kathy. I'm trying to get back to my regular healthy eating pattern after a not-so-healthy month of December and want to beat a late night snack problem. I'll do really well all day, but when it's time for bed, I frequently lose my self-control. I'm starting to connect feeling tired with wanting to eat. I used to think it was purely a stress thing, but since it usually happens right before bed, I thinking it might be tiredness.

Wishing everyone here success with this challenge and all their personal goals.

Hi - I'm Laurie ... just joined this 28 Day Snacking Challenge this morning -- looking for some guidance. I am getting ready to start the 2018 Winter Challenge this upcoming Saturday, I am trying out a Medical Nutritionist on Jan 8, and I have signed on for private exercise for 10 visits (spaced out over weeks through March). I also am a member at Weight Watchers, though I have not really attended meetings for the past year or more --- I do intend to go back as I like the new Freestyle Plan that they have just put out there. All of these tools, yet I need to comply in order to see success --- that is the hard part !! Wish me luck, strength, and perseverance, as I will be able to refer back to this when the going gets tough -- I really need to take off 25 lbs. My blood has jumped up with this last 20 lbs weight gain, and I have had to start on the beginnings of high blood pressure medication --- I need to get my health and life on track and only I can make that happen.

Hi. I am Bonnie. I turned 63 on New Year's Eve. I reached my goal weight in 2012. I went from 258 pounds down to 126.6 pounds. Then I had knee replacement surgery. I gained a little over 20 pounds. When I was in rehab we had ice cream at night and desert with all of our meals. The food was delicious not like hospital food though that was good too. I never really got back into exercising like I was except swimming, and strength training and of course walking, but not like I was. The last 5% challenge I lost the weight except for 4 pounds. I still like my ice cream though and for some reason I can't explain Oreo cookies. Never ate them before. I really don't gain much weight from eating these because it is all I will eat, no food. Cookies and ice cream will be my meals for the day if that is what I want to eat so I won't gain weight. Of course I know this is not healthy. I want to get back to the way I was before surgery. Eating healthy and working out 5 days a week. I gave all that food up before why can't I do it again. I had a very serious Mt. Dew addiction that I gave up. I can't stand the soda now and haven't had one in about 5 years. I know my life has gotten stressful the last couple months but I am hoping this challenge will help.

I love SparkPeople

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

I am responsible for my own happiness.

My name is Bonnie I live in CT DST

I went from 258 to 126 pounds and have maintained it since 12/28/12.

Too Blessed to be Stressed.

Happy new year, new challenge. This is the one I need! I'm Lynn. I have always liked my sweets, but I have become even worse at wrong snacking, especially at night. I hope this is the extra piece of wisdom and discipline that I need.

I’m Nan. 63 next week. With a sweet tooth that I’ve always had.
I’m hoping that smart snacking will help me stop binge eating on sweets and biscuits.

Hi Smart Snacking Challenge teammates! I am what I call an "out of Control" snacker. I tend to snack all throughout the day and even right before bed, in bed.... Honestly I need a reboot- and to relearn how to eat and "stick" to it....
