I am in P.S.T.
I live in B.C. Canada but it is the same time zone as California!

What name do you like to be called? Linda

Why did you sign up for this challenge? To reach my goal weight. I have lost about 40 pounds so far in less then 1.5 years. I have chronic kidney disease, it is mild, on blood thinners for clots in both lungs, need exact amount of vitamin K for them to work. I am slightly overweight & thought it might help my health, blood clots is the only reason I ever gained weight from. With not being able to exercise or eat properly for the past 3 years. I was the same weight for over 30 years before this! Now I am the same size as I was when I left high school.

Yes I have been on a few challenges so far ? my health makes it difficult to exercise.

What do you hope to accomplish in these 8 weeks? I hope to be able to work out a diet I can use to lose weight along with some light exercise to do. I want to lose some weight in the 8 weeks, my weight loss varies every week

.What do you like to do for fun? Go to a movie that has good sound quality, no cheap movies, I use points for free good quality movies. I do not eat there. I do a lot of free learning online, called MOOC courses.

What is your favorite exercise! Related to my bad health, walking.

What is your favorite food, drink? Drink is coffee, food is lasagna, I do not have it often.

Are you following a specific diet? Yes, I bet more then anyone else here. I am intolerant to gluten,dairy, most nuts, shellfish,tomatoes,potatoes,corn, except corn on the cob, pickles, ketchup,mayonnaise,artificial chemicals in foods have damaged my complete digestive system. It will take a long time to heal & repair itself. I also have to eat the exact same amount of vitamin K daily in foods for my blood thinner to work on the clots in both lungs & have mild chronic kidney disease where certain foods are bad for my kidneys. What do I eat?

I am 54 years old & live in B.C. Canada.

I have pleurisy, 2 types of anemia, macrocytic anemia, Iron deficiency anemia, from blood transfusions with wrong antibodies, causes blood to replace daily instead of 100 days, chronic pneumonia, pleurisy, chronic kidney disease, a partially collapsed lung, low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years. Now formed scar tissue.I am 56 years old. I had cervical cancer 6 years ago, no signs last 4 years as well. I have new blood clots now,2019.I am on P.S.T. time zone.

Luann here. 64 years old and discovered my inner athlete during Tiger Monarch Spring Challenge. Had WLS in 2012 and have lost 182 pounds so far. I will celebratedocelebrate my 40th Wedding Anniversary in August. I retired from teaching Spanish and German (40 yrs) in 2016 and am enjoying retirement completely.

Why did you sign up for this 5% Challenge?
To continue with my healthy lifestyle. Spark People and the team keep me motivated.

Have you been involved in the 5% Challenges previously?
I did the Spring and Summer Monarch challenge .

What do you hope to get out of these 8 weeks?
To be an encourager to my teammates, be encouraged, to be a motivator and to be motivated

Travel, hike, sing, cross stitch and read

My name is Danielle and my nickname Dani
I am retired from the Corporate world and now create art and write for fun.
I am following a Low Carb eating plan (at least trying)
My favorite exercise is walking (now that I can no longer ski or play tennis)
This is my first challenge and I am stoked up!
2 Random fun facts about me: 1) My ancestors include the Witch of Ridley Creek a historical figure-William Penn presided over her trial 2) I once played drums in the world-renowned Taiko (Japanese drum) group "San Francisco Taiko Dojo".
My goals are to eventually lose 100 lbs and I am hoping this challenge will jolt me off my current plateau.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. My last challenge has been my best I have been part of the 5% challenge since 2014 and even if I didn't lose all I wanted, I got all the motivation I needed from team mates, this is a great challenge.

2 random fun facts about you? I dress up for Halloween even if I don't go anywhere, play farmtown on facebook and sometimes take it too seriously.

Anything else you would like to share? Grandmother of 10 ages 6-30), great grandmother of 4 ages 2-7. I am married to the best husband in the world he has spoiled me through the years, does all the cooking, most of the washing, and some of the cleaning, so I can do the activities I like, he said he did his things when we were younger (hunting fishing, sometimes I didn't go) and now I can do all the things I like. Love that man.

Hi, all! My name is Marie.

What do you like to do for fun? I love to read and get to know new people! On the introvert/extrovert scale, I tend to fall on the "extrovert who also likes to spend time alone" side. :)

What diet are you following? I've been a vegetarian for 2 years (this weekend!) so I'll be following a plant-based diet with emphasis on adding more whole foods and eliminating more processed foods.

I'm Momma Chelle. I am a wife and mother and I just gave birth to my sixth kiddo almost 4 weeks ago. My kids are 11, 7, 6, forever 2 weeks, 2 and almost a month. They are everything to me. My goal for weight loss is less about the number on the scale(although it is nice to see it drop) and more about how I feel. My husband is adhd and I have young children. I always feel like I'm lagging behind while they are having fun. I need to find a way to have more energyūüėĄ and I feel eating right and exercising will help with that.

I plan on walking and cleaning for now and after I'm oked to exercise more I will. The goals are to get moving, eat good and make good milk for my baby.

Hi, I'm Cathy. In June I celebrated my 21st anniversary to my husband, Roger. We live on Cape Cod (notice how I say Cape Cod like it's a state of its own :). I have 3 grown sons, and a step-son and a step-daughter. Between 2 of my sons and my step-daughter we have 7 grandkids, 2 girls and 5 boys ranging in age from 1 year old to 15 3/4. We are close enough to see our grandchildren often and they are the joy of our lives. I am a retired middle school teacher and enjoy traveling.

What do you like to do for fun?
In the fall I like to take long walks along the beach. My husband and I love to visit the apple farms and pick up apples for canning our homemade applesauce. We usually take a weekend trip to Maine, but this fall we are going to Hawaii for 2 weeks the end of October with my sister and her husband. I love my exercise group and after class we go to Dunkin Donuts for coffee (no donuts, unless it's national donut day and we get a free donut, so once a year we all have a donut! emoticon ) I also play Bananagrams every Wednesday evening with a small group of friends.

What diet are you following? I follow the Spark People food tracker making sure I get enough carbs, fats, protein, and fiber. I also keep track of sodium.

What is your favorite exercise?
Definitely walking which I do every day, 3-5 miles. And I enjoy my strength class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it.

This is my 3rd %5 Challenge. I have been on the Teddy Bears for each one. I was the EL leader for the summer challenge and will be in that position again this challenge. The first challenge was not very successful for me, my sister passed away unexpectedly and I got way off track. The second challenge was more successful although I did not lose 5%, I did lose 3 1/2 pounds (2.3%) The weight is coming off slowly, but the change in my exercise and body have been very fulfilling.

I am a die-hard Patiots fan and have been since they were the laughing stock of the NFL.

What do you like to do for fun? I like to cook, organize, read, and recently realized I like to go for walks. I do like to be crafty, though I haven't done much in the way of knitting, coloring, other art since having kids.

What kind of diet are you on? Keto. My body doesn't do well with carbs and has been trying to tell me this for years. I just wouldn't listen.

For Fun, I mostly spend time on the computer these days. I find simple match-3 games and computer jigsaw puzzles relaxing breaks from Sparking and FB. While I haven't had the energy recently, I do enjoy sewing crafts and totes, amateur photography and occasionally reading Christian historical fiction or mysteries.

My diet is cutting portions while eating gluten-free, sugar-free, low sodium for other health issues.

Favorite exercise: Walking when knee pain allows. (actually my favorite is pool aerobics but a pool is not currently accessible)

Previous 5% Challenges - Started in Spring 2010 and continued till 2012 when I dropped out due to health issues. Came back June, 2016 and this will be my 14th - 5% Challenge, all on the Cloverleaf Team.

2 random fun facts - I am an enthusiastic cat lover who misses sharing my home with a therapeutic furball (the landlord changed their rules when I was between cats). I collect geods. Got my love of rocks from my grandparents who were rock hounds. My favorite geods were given to me by my Grandpa and ones he personally sawed in half.

Anything else you would like to share? This Challenge takes commitment. It's only for 8 weeks but if commitment to participate isn't there, you're probably not going to do well. People tend to get out of it what they put into it.

What do you like to do for fun? hike, ski, do fun things with my kids, cross stitch, knit

What diet are you following? Mindful eating and eating in moderation. I am simply tracking what I eat and trying to make sure I am more aware of what I am doing. In the past I have done weight watchers, and had success, but I am trying to use what I have learned in a more budget conscious way.

What is your favorite exercise? I really love to run, but currently I weigh too much to go far. I am walk/running right now. I used to be really athletic, and I want to be again.

What do you like to do for fun? Spend time with my family, read, visit friends and family, play computer games, cook, find new recipes low-carb recipes, play computer games, dance, picnic in the park, swim, do word puzzles. I am a "crafter" and play several musical instruments.

What diet are you following? I started Atkins again when it became apparent that I am still a carb addict and lost 2 pounds a week on Atkins in 2011 and let myself slip back into the abyss.


What is your favorite exercise? Dancing/Walking in that order.

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. I have done 2 previous challenges. In the Spring I lost a little more than my goal, but in the Summer I didn't achieve it. I plan to reach or exceed it this time.

2 random fun facts about you? At my age, I can still kick my leg higher than my head. Guess it is because I have kept at it all these years, emoticon

My family and I are Christians and very connected to Him. I honor Him in my life daily and strive to reflect His Glory.
I have struggled with my weight for 25 years since I got a rare disease that they admitted they don't know what causes it or how to treat it. It "went away" in 2014 I think it was, and personally I think it was due to poor gut health. Now I take probiotics 2x a day and eat prebiotics (which is fiber) and am much better. Please take care of your gut.

I have been sparking since 2012 still working towards my goal I have found some rest spots where the scales refuses to move but I happy to say its never gone back to starting point. I enjoying walking sparking sharing quotes on team mates page sharing a goodie or to as well . I enjoy working in the yard in my flower beds cutting the grass not so much.
I follow the spark plan working on getting my sodium under control.

I have done several a huge lesson learned is donít beat your self when you slip on the journey the main thing is to just dust off and keep moving when we are on vacation we often stop along the way to move around and have a snack so thatrf is how I look at slips you do it you move on why go home and start over who wants to go back to our starting weight . We need watch for NSV they can be simple as walking or getting five extra fitness minutes tracking our meals this a hard one for me . Enjoy the challenges and always take to think of them as fun and not work. Take time to visit with your team mates ask for help when you need it .

2 random fun facts about you?
Enjoy doing our Spring 12 k each May I am not fast but I finish and wear my T shirt with pride . you donít finish the race no shirt.

Anything else you would like to share? I have family living in the Denver and enjoy visiting several times a year . getting ready to fly out this Tuesday. Then we are off on a mystery trip will a mystery to me since he has to do the driving.

I am the mom to a cute dog named Racey we enjoy walking since he has short legs and when he gets tired he just sits down where ever we are so we go on several short walks but like Spark Guy says the 10 minute fitness minutes add up fast. Ours usually add up to 30 + minutes when we are not covered in smoke like we are now.

What do you like to do for fun? I love going to watch the baby pens play hockey, I also love to watch the big pens on TV (Yes a bight Pittsburgh Penguin Fan). I also like to read, spend time with my family and just veg out.

What diet are you following? No diet - just tracking calories and trying to make good/healthy choices.

What is your favorite exercise? Walking, WII Zumba and WII Yoga --- I want to start running and have been trying to build up my walking/running on the treadmill at work. It's going slowly.

Jessica Smith workouts, Turbo Jam, Shaun T's workouts - Cize or Rockin' Body, step aerobics with Jenny Ford, walking... Considering I love all these workouts, it's strange how hard it is to convince myself to start working out sometimes.

I did a few, but I wasn't too successful. In fact, when I lost 35 pounds a few years ago, I wasn't participating in any of the challenges. I hope to be successful this time around since I've been on a plateau for a while now.

What diet are you following?
I use the Sparkpeople calorie, carb, fat & protein guidelines. I try to avoid processed foods by using mainly foods that have ingredient lists that look like a recipe I could make in my kitchen.

What is your favorite exercise?
Walking

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it.
I did the 2017 Summer 5% Challenge. I didn't reach my challenge weight goal but made good progress towards it.

2 random fun facts about you?
1. I have always wanted to go for a hot air balloon ride.
2. I just paid off my mortgage :-)

Anything else you would like to share?
I had pretty good success using Sparkpeople a couple of years ago, but during the recovery from a serious car accident I regained about 30 pounds of what I had lost. Now I am trying to lose it all again and more.

What is your name or nick name? Wendy

What do you like to do for fun? Reading, puzzles, gardening & spending time with my many critters

What diet are you following? Calorie counting and limiting carbs & bread products

What is your favorite exercise? Hiking, elliptical, strength training

If you did a previous 5% Challenge tell us about it. This will be my first!

2 random fun facts about you? I had horses and was involved in showing for 30+ years, but due to life circumstances had to leave the hobby. My new obsession is reptiles - I have a gecko, bearded dragon and a corn snake (plus 3 dogs & 2 cats - lol). Also, I am a Certified Aromatherapist and have my own company emoticon

Anything else you would like to share? I lost about 25 pounds last year and said I'd never gain it back - I did emoticon My new goal is to be in onederland before my 50th birthday!

Looking forward to this challenge to help me get back on track!

What diet are you following? My own.

2 random fun facts about you? I help others all I can. I retired in 2015 to watch grandson also work 6 days a month and more if they need me.

Anything else you would like to share? 3rd time around losing 30 or more lbs and this will be the last want to see grands grow up.

What diet are you following? Calorie control, no sweets/soda (except ice cream on treat nights, within calories)

What is your favorite exercise? Walking and home weights, maybe YouTube videos if I'm inclined
