I am 33 years old, married and a mother of three girls, 5 yrs, 3yrs, and 2 months old. Never had HBP until the day after I delivered my first daughter. Have been on Rx since then. The last pregnancy I had low HBP throughout and at 38 weeks it shot up and she was delivered early. It went down without Rx but when I returned to work at 8 weeks PP it got up to 180s/120s. Added a diuretic but still running 150s/100s. :( Too young to have these problems! Unfortunately diet/weight have no effect on it but there is a family history of HBP. Hoping that learning to de-stress will help!!

Do or do not, there is no try.

Hi there! I am Elaine and I am very excited to be a part of this team. Even though I lost 25 lbs in 2012 I still have high blood pressure. I look forward to the encouragement from the team and lowering this bp of mine!

Hello all!! My name is Bridget. I was on Spark after my first child and did amazing with it for 2 years almost and then we moved, I found out I was pregnant again, complications, then she was here and I struggled with PPD... and then excuses began from there I guess. I am back on here fresh start and all. From December til end of January I was having severe headaches. Migraines really and I had a friend tell me to check my bp because I was overly stressed with my horrible work situation and so on. It was 150/114. I was scared and went to the doctor the next day. They put me on a medicine and at last months follow up it was still high, better than before but not where they want it to be. So Monday I quit my job, somewhat unexpectedly, long story there, but I quit and now I am here. I am ready to change everything to try to get back to my normal. Both of my parents have high blood pressure but it wasn't an issue for me til recently so I don't want to accept that it could be a hereditary thing and I am trying to control it now. I am currently on medication and plan to stay on it until my May appointment with my doctor but in the meantime I plan on working on my diet more too.

Anywho.... I am a mom of a 5 year old boy and a 3 year old daughter. Next month my husband and I will celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary and I am actively looking for another job. :( Pray for me if you can... this is a struggle!!

Thank you!!!!

Hello, all! I am a long time lurker (been on Sparkpeople since 2011, I think?). I turn 40 next week and I'm having a bit of a breakdown. I need to get serious about losing weight, making better choices for my family and not letting the daily grind stress me so much. My BP was staying under control with meds a few months ago and is crawling back up now. I really don't want to up the meds again if I can help it. I think it is stress related, this whole "turning 40 thing" and feeling like there isn't anyone in my life that understands where I'm coming from is really hitting me harder than I would have ever expected.

At any rate, I want to be part of this group and help out anywhere I can as well as getting to rejoice with some other folks that "get it". Hi!

It is never too late to be what you might have been. ~George Eliot

Hi Everyone,

I am new to SparkPeople. I just joined yesterday.

I am a 52 year old mother of four with a lot of health issues right now and I am really wanting to get a "little healthier and a little lighter".

I have thyroid cancer and had my thyroid removed last July. I now have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia as a result of the cancer. I have terrible knees. I have high blood pressure and I am extremely overweight. emoticon

I am looking forward to reading through all the posts in "Moms with High Blood Pressure" and learning from all your wisdom....

Thanks for listening,
Kathy

Hello All, my name is Stephanie and I am a single mother of three teenagers, 2 boys and 1 girl. 14,15,16 (I wish I could say they are a full year apart, but their not) I have always been overweight and obese, up and down all my life but never at a healthy weight. Anyways, all the bad stuff runs in my family and I got it to. Diabetes, HBP, heart failure, asthma etc, etc. I have had high blood pressure for a while, but taking medication generally kept it down. Now its not so. I have to keep a strict eye on my BP and low sodium diet. It's been hard this past week but every realization is a good thing. I hope to get support and give support to others.

Never, Never, Never Give UP!

Hi I am Amber and a mom of 2. I would love to get off my BP meds. I had an anxiety attack last September and was diagnosed with high BP. At 32 I am kinda young for high BP. It scares me because I do not want to be in this condition and I want to be healthier for my kids.

Hi - I was diagnosed with high blood pressure about 2 years ago and haven't been focused on getting it under control. I currently weigh 218 and the doctor wants to really focus on losing weight. It's been really hard, I lost 30 pounds about 2 years ago when I first found out but gained it all back plus some.
I'm looking for support, ideas and a buddy that understands the busy schedule of mom working full time and going to school.

HI I am 26 and a mom of 2 toddlers. I was diagnosed with HBP about 10 months ago. With both of my pregnancies I had no BP problems at all so I was shocked when I found out that I do know. I gained a bit of weight after having my second child, and changed jobs which is a lot more stressful. Heart Disease and heart attacks run in my family so I really want to lose the weight, exercise, and hopefully get off the one BP medicine I am on! I really need the motivation and support to reach my goals! Honestly, I am glad to hear that I am not alone, I am the only one who has this issue in my group of friends.

Hi, I am 45 years old and was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure about a month ago. I am really bummed out about this, as I have tried through exercise to keep it down. I have put some weight on the past year which I am sure has attributed to this, so here goes! After viewing some of your posts, I see I am not alone. I am glad to be apart of this team and look forward to conversing with you all more.

I am a 30 year old mother of one. I never had high blood pressure until I was 33 weeks into my pregnancy. When I went for a checkup they told me that I had severe preeclampsia and that they would need to deliver the baby within a couple days. My baby was healthy but small, thank goodness! But my blood pressure never dropped on its own. I refused to take BP medications while I was nursing, but now that we've weaned I am on medication while I work hard to lose some weight and get off the meds completely. If I can get to a healthy weight and get my blood pressure under control without medications then we will consider having another baby. Right now, it's just not worth the risk to my health or a future baby's health, or to put my husband and daughter through the worrying.

I am a 38 year old single, working mother of two. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure nine months ago. I have been working on losing weight and getting into better condition. I lost about fifty pounds and then plateaued. I finally joined a gym a little over a month ago. I am looking for a way to keep myself motivated and I like to help others. emoticon

Hello, I am a 34 year old, happily married woman, with 3 children. I have high blood pressure. I was diagnosed about 2.5 years ago. I learned in Feb. of this year that I also have diabetes. I have since lost about 41 pounds. This puts my weight at about 183. I still need to loose a lot more. My goal is to get off the blood pressure meds. I decided to come back to spark people, because I noticed the most changes when I was using this site. (it gives the best help) I am looking for some motivation from people going through the same struggles. Food is my worst enemy as well as stress. I walk everyday to eliminate some of the stress and have incorporated other exercises now. I am very glad to join this team. emoticon

My name is Debbie. I'm a 41 year old married working mom with high blood pressure and two kids. I have returned to working out and eating health 5 weeks ago. I have done Weight Watchers online for sometime off an on. So I know that journally works for me. A good friend recommended SparkPeople a week ago. I cancelled my WW online which is saving me $18 a month. I have lost 7 lbs and 12 inches and am feeling stronger. My blood pressure is still higher than normal. I'm hoping that diet and exercise will help keep me from having to increase my medications. Would really like to make some motivating friends.

Hello Everyone! New to this site and this team. I have had HBP sine I was 22 now I am in my late 30's and the docs are saying that my heart can't take much more. I am on 3 BP medications and they are looking for a fourth. I have other health conditions that are keeping my BP up and make me feel bad when I try to get in shape.

But the point of success is when you are able to overcome those obstacles and work your way through them. Now is my time and no more excuses. It is time to make me happy and to stop letting those negative thoughts stop me from reaching my goal.

Pray for me yall and any support is greatly welcomed. I am also a big cheerleader so let me know if you need some cheering on!!! We Can Do This!

Hi, I am currently on two different medications and my blood pressure is still not where the doctor would like it to be so here I am trying to reduce my sodium intake, reduce my calorie intake (which I'm either starving or fine) and exercise more. Look forward to getting to know people here who have similar problems and learn from all of you.

Welcome! I just joined this team. I am on Benicar, but was on lisinopril but got off of it for the same reason, the cough was bad. I'm seeing my dr next week and I know my weight will be an issue, but I've been working out the last 3 weeks and finally got a normal blood pressure reading this morning. I think I'm going to try to do more 10 minute reps during the day because I still have way more weight to go. Take care!

I just read the article about small steps. It makes sense to me because even when you think you can't fit one thing into your day, everyone has 10 minutes here and there! I think to do these small activities when I am feeling cold and think about another sweater or curling up under a blanket. Maybe 20 jumpjacks will get me warm again! :)

Hi, I am 54, mom of 4 and a nurse with high blood pressure. Sometimes doing all the right things doesn't mean it goes away! Both of my parents are on medication so I see where it comes from. I will try losing some weight but I am not sure it will reduce the blood pressure. I was on Benicar to answer a previous post, it gave me a cough so I was changed to Bystolic, works in a different way. I am really thinking that exercise works in several different ways. It circulates blood to reduce fluid build-up, burns calories and improves mood. I am trying to make it a priority by wearing a pedometer in the hospital and walking when I get home too.

Hi,
I'm a 36 year old stay at home & homeschool mom of 5 kids. I have 3 in school and 2 preschoolers. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure about a year and a half ago, and at first I found a baby bootcamp that helped me keep in shape. We have since moved from AZ to VA and I have had a hard time getting motivated to workout again. But this last Christmas, I made it a priority and I'm working on my 3rd week of working out consistantly. I'm so glad to have found this group!

Hello, I am a 34 year old mom of 4 beautiful girls. Ranging from 7 to 6 mos. During my last pregnancy I had Pre-clampsia and after I had the baby I since have had HBP. I am on 1 med right now, but would like to lose weight so I can be taken off the med. Are there any special tools or tips that Spark offers to help in this area?

Hello all,

I am a 31 year old married mother of one. After having borderline hbp for years, I recently put on medication to begin lowering it. Looking forward to getting to know others on the team and discussing health and wellness.

Hi! I am a stay at home mom to five kids and military wife to my hubby of 15 years. I have been borderline HBP for about two years, i have tried to lower it by changing my diet and adding more excercise. Its just not working well. My husband has HBP and bad cholesterol, so our diet is really good. Just have to keep on trying. I am currently on day four of a ten day BP check at the hospital. I just want to get this under control for me, and to stick around for all my family as well. I am very glad to have foudn this group.

Hi - I'm fairly new to Spark and really new to this team. HBP is an issue with me - but the issue I have with HBP are the meds prescribed by a "med prescribing doc" - seems like he jumps me from one med to another for whatever reason - right now he has me on Benicar Hct and since I've started taking this about 2 months ago, I've gained 6 pounds. My question to the Mom w/HBP team is: anyone have any experience with Benicar HCT that you can share with me?

My goal WAS to lose about 20 pounds when I first started Sparking, but now I'll have to change that goal to "lose 25 pounds" just to keep up with what I'm gaining. Doesn't seem fair - doesn't seem right, but it is what it is. Any suggestions?

Hello Everyone, I'm 33 years old and the mother of a 3 year old. I was diagnosed with pre-clampsia when I was in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy which lead to an 28 week delivery. My daughter was born weighing 2lbs and I've been on BP medicine ever since. I'm 50pds over weight and I'm so grateful for my aunt telling me about Spark People because it keeps me motivated. I'm happy to have joined this group and I'm looking forward to all of us achieveing our goals.

High every one..I am 33,have 3 daughters and found out about 6 months ago that I was right at the line of high blood pressure..I was told to try to eliminate the amount of sodium I was getting and to lose weight..I came home and took off on a healthy diet and done really good..I even lost 5 pounds quick though I think it was all water lose..Then trying to cook two different meals at the time really took a toll on me because my husband and children would not eat what I had too..I stopped trying and now I am back on board and very motivated..I started back working out and now I gotta get back to healthy no salt eating which is hard to say the lest..But I really don't wanna be on medicine the rest of my life so looking for any tips and maybe someone who is willing to work together to stay motivated on this..

I'm a 55 year old mother of two sons. I was recently diagnosed with HBP. This team appealed to me because I do not want to be on BP medicine for the rest of my life and I know I need to lose 15 pounds. I would like to learn how to adjust my diet and lifestyle to improve my blood pressure.

Hi Everyone! I'm 25, married, with no children. I know that this Message Board is supposed to be for moms only, but I decided to join it anyway. My husband and I plan to have our 1st child within the next 2 years. I'd really like to "get fit before baby." I haven't really been diagnosed with high blood pressure, but it has been elevated from time to time. I'm not on any meds and would like to keep it that way. I'm looking for ways to lower and stabilize it. I also know that losing weight should help. I'm looking for any suggestions and support that anyone can offer. Good Luck to everyone on this journey.

Hi! I'll be 65 in April, and I've been taking BP meds for about 15 years. On 9/11/09 I had triple bypass surgery, and am now working much harder toward getting in shape. I've been on SP almost 3 years, but had fallen away until I had my surgery.

My stumbling blocks include a taste for salt emoticon , inconsistent meal-planning and execution, fondness for high-fat sweets, and the stresses of raising an angry 13yo DGD who targets me with the rage that she can't express to her mother (DGD was beaten by mom's BF when DGD was small; we have had her since she was 4) because her mother won't give her a way to contact her. I've also been a stress eater... emoticon

I have been blessed to have NO damage to my heart emoticon , and am determined to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Hi all,

Not new to SP, not new to losing weight or getting healthy. New to HBP and prediabeties. Joining WW for the weight issues, makes me accountable and focused.

Hi, I'm Shannon... I've just joined. Today's stupid blood pressure was something like 133/109 or something close to that anyhow... my meds seem to help the top number, but not the bottom. Not sure about what to do with that. I'm hoping that by losing weight and getting fit that my blood pressure will return to normal again.
I'm a homeschool mom with 4 kids (teens to preschoolers) at home all day.. hmm.. wonder if that contributes to my hbp? LOL! (just kidding)
Looking forward to getting to know everyone!
Blessings,
Shannon

Hi everyone, I'm new to this team but have been on Spark since last March, off and on. I have very high blood pressure and had to be hospitalized 3 times in last two weeks to get it under control (it is now)I was also diagnosed with diabetes in June and was so focused on that and ignored my BP issues (eating too much salt and not always taking my medication) I got a wake up call when I had 3 TIAS (mini strokes)over last two weeks and my doctor said it was because my BP got too high for too long. I'm lucky I didn't have a full blown stroke but I'm only 42 and I'm at very high risk. I really didn't get how serious high BP can be, I get it now and I'm happy to be a part of this team and getting to know all of you

Hi, I'm a grandma from the San Francisco bay area. I was diagnosed with Hypertension a few months ago. I'm on meds and hate that I have to rely on a tiny pill for the rest of my life in order to live in this world. I don't have anyone to blame but myself though. I thought that I could eat whatever I wanted and not exercise FOREVER. Well, I've gained a lot of weight as a result and now my body is paying the price for it. Nevertheless, today is a new day and a new me is going to hang in there until I reach my goal and adopt a new lifestyle.

Hi! I'm a mom from Missouri. I have a history of erratic PB. I went to the Dr. yesterday and my BP was 152/106. My family also has a history of high BP. I'm not new to SP. I am losing slowly, but surely. I really want to get off the meds my Doc put me on yesterday. I don't know if that is possible. My uncle and grandfather were in great shape and both had really high BP most of their lives. Wish me luck. emoticon

Hi! I'm a 48 year old mom who has was diagnosed with hypertension last summer. The doctor suggested I cut my sodium intake and lose some weight. (about 40lbs. overweight)Three months later I hadn't lost any weight and was put on medication. I really want to lose the weight and get off the medication, but I am a big cheater and never stick to a diet. I have been searching this site and I love the recipes and I hope this will help me reach my goal to just get healthy and get off the medication.

Hi, ladies! I'm new to the team but not new to SparkPeople. I decided to join this team because even though I was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure last October, I just recently discovered that I've been doing things that may be making matters worse, such as exercising in my target heart rate zone. So, I'm hoping to get ideas on how to exercise for weight loss without making my blood pressure worse.
