I'm Vicki and I've been a member of sparkpeople off and on for the last 7-8 years. In that time I've managed to yo-yo myself up about 70 lbs. I'll lose some weight then get compliant and gain it back plus more. But now I'm starting to have health issues that wouldn't be as bad if I were at a smaller size.
I don't expect to ever see below 225 lbs. again but would love to see that number again, so this is my goal to reach. As of today I'm 262.8 lbs., so my goal is to drop 38 lbs. Once I manage that, then I'll decide if I want to try to go lower.

Hi. My name is Susan and I am 58 years old, just diagnosed in November. I went through a month of self-berating as I am a nurse and should have taken steps to prevent this long ago. My A1c was 7.1. My FBS was 126 when 2 years ago it was 124. My doctor is sending me to lots of specialists--podiatrist, ophthalmologist, nutritionist (that one I know I need). I'm not sure if that is normal or if my doctor is being overly aggressive. I have lost 5 pounds since November and am making exercise a priority. I am also cutting down (way down) on the white foods. I'll be starting on Metformin this week and I'm scared, scared of the side effects, scared I won't be able to come off the medication at some point. I've been with SparkPeople for several years and appreciate the community support which I really need right now. Thanks for forming this team

Hi everyone. I have battled with my weight most of my adult life and am ready to get it under control. I had congestive heart failure after the birth of my last child and cannot believe that 13 years later I have still not gotten my health in order. I have recently been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and my triglycerides are out of control. My daughter is getting married in April so I am hopeful to see big changes by then! I look forward to sharing this journey with you all!

Hi, I'm Madonna.
I've been an active member of SparkPeople for about 3 years. I appreciate the food logging and exercise videos.
I have lost some weight, but I have more to lose and am looking forward to more success in 2016. I'm on a journey; I'm looking for a lifestyle, not a diet, so I try what might work and if it doesn't I keep looking.
Thanks for the invitation/welcome to be a part of the team.

Hi, my name is Michelle. I have been off of Spark People for quite awhile. I successfully lost quite a bit of weight but have gained some back. I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 recently and want to keep on top of taking care of myself. I am looking for lots of positive feedback and hope to give back the same! I love the inspirational quotes that I have seen so far.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to encourage anyone!

Hi everyone!

My name is Mary and I just joined SP the end of July. I am still learning my way around the sight and was pleased to receive HomeBody's invitation to join this group. I have lost and gained weight too many times to count and want to just start living healthy and trusting that the weight will take care of it's self as a results. I am a retired grandma of 5 and love spending time with them, dancing, walking and not waking to an alarm clock any more.

Thank you Homebody for the wonderful invite to join your group. I joined Sparkpeople and started a healthy living lifestyle change transformation on October 1, 2015 and I am just joining this particular group today. I have medical issues with my heart and kidneys and right now I am trying to lose weight to avoid going on dialysis. I am part of the over 300lb. group of people but I am working hard on eating right and exercising, in fact just got done with my 2nd workout of the day, aerobics and walking. I am willing to listen and take any advice anyone has and I am here for any support, motivation and inspiration that is needed from me. Feel free to take a look at my sparkpage and add me as a friend. Take care all.

Seasons Greetings from our house to yours!!!!

to our team BEEABUG. I wish you all the best in losing those extra pounds that you gained during your illness. Do be careful not to get back into bad eating habits. It sounds like you prepared some nutritional meals for yourself. Try your best to stick with your healthy plan. Sabotaging ones self is so easy to do.

Hey everyone!

About a year ago, I did really well on Spark until about February. Then, I got really sick with bronchitis/croup/whooping cough (never figured out which) until May. Then, I was hospitalized twice, one in June and once in July, for asthma. Ever since February I've gained back the 30 lbs I lost originally, plus gained some more, I think. I'm trying even harder now. Well, it's been 2 days, but that counts, doesn't it? I spent the weekend setting up the kitchen in our temporary home and cooked a few meals up so I could grab stuff during the week. Although, my hubby brought home pizza last night because he didn't realize I was cooking. I only ate 1 slice of the thin-crust pizza! I did eat the equivalent of a regular crust pizza slice this morning. But, only because I'm the only one that will eat the pizza in the house (it has olives on my half). We have been living off of pizza for the past 2 months because my hubby works at Papa Johns and we could get pizza cheap (free). So, we were saving money. Hopefully, we'll be buying a house in the next 6 months.

Hi. Finally managed to lose ten pounds Jan to June and since then have been yo-yoing the same 3 pounds. Last nite decided to refocus and instead of looking to a goal of losing 25 pounds (for starters), have reset my goal to be 165 by end of Nov. I too easily become complacent or very forgetful on the weekends. Need help to stay on track every day.

Lynn

Hi Everyone! Thank you Homebody for the invite. My name is NIkki and I live in Austin, TX. I am currently a home-mom of 4 mostly-grown kiddos and a great hubster. My family history of diabetes plus a knee surgery 2 years ago has caught up with me and I need to make some changes to my lifestyle to better my health. SparkPeople helps me with accountability and keeps me from getting too crazy with changes. I look forward to being a part of this group :) emoticon

Hi--I am Bonnie, aka iamagemlover. I have been on sparkpeople since 12/11/11. I lost 60 pounds before joining SP but got stuck, bored. I went on to reach my goal on 12/28/12 and lost a total of 122 pounds. I use 12/28 as the date because that is the anniversary of my Dad's passing and He is part of the reason I did this. I kept the maintained my weight within 3% until May of this year. Life happened and I gained 12 pounds. I have lost 8 of the 12 but now I find myself eating junk again. This has to stop especially with the holidays upon us. This summer I just fell back into bad habits. I really don't exercise at all. Friday I walked home from the Dr. According to my fitbit it was 2.69 miles and 16 floors. I am walking like a cripple now, moving hurts. Sure life sucks, but gaining more weight is not the answer.

I love SparkPeople

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

I am responsible for my own happiness.

My name is Bonnie I live in CT DST

I went from 258 to 126 pounds and have maintained it since 12/28/12.

Too Blessed to be Stressed.

Thank you for the welcome to the team- I am so motivated this morning and ready to get my day going. I rode my recumbent bike for 6 miles this morning. It is down from what I have done but decided do it every day and not just once in a while and then overdoing it. So I am tracking food and exercise now and about time I am saying to myself. Have a good day - I know I will emoticon

Hi my name is Betty I am 67, retired for 4 years and you would think with this time I would get it together. I seem to be busier since I retired- get that !! I joined the spark coach team last year and just renewed it but to be honest I guess I kind of half hearted into it. I have to get on my spark page and redo it and weight of course. I was exercising alot and just eating wrong and thinking if I exercise more those excess pounds wouldn't come on so fast- boy wrong!! I need help and if I can help anyone I would love to do so. I am sure I can do it if I can just have the right mindset with a plan. Sorry I ramble on so.

Thank you for the invite to this team. I will try to do my best in posting. I can't stay on the computer a lot anymore, it bothers my eyes some. I am 84 and maybe the oldest one here, but still like to eat healthy, can't walk too much because of arthiritis in my right ankle.

I live in Florida and the weather is beautiful this morning. I could take this weather all year round. :)

Hope everyone has a great day, I am getting ready to put a split pea soup in my slow cooker.

Thank you for the invitation to join. My name is Natalie and I am a 45 year old married mother of a high school senior in Alabama. I work a sedentary job. I am in generally good health but have had some problems the last couple of years and have begun to realize how much better I feel when I exercise and eat right. I am making changes, trying to get off of my cholesterol medicine, but am hoping the small changes will make a big difference in the long run.

My name is Linda, and I live in Iowa. Right now it is the home of very small bugs coming from the soybean fields. I've lived here all my life, and I've never experienced this before. I am spraying myself with vanilla body spray and spraying the air.....That is supposed to stop the flow...They hate the smell. I have been on a plateau, and I need to get motivated to stay strong. I recently was diagnosed with real thyroid issues. That has always been a running joke for some...I have thyroid issues, so that is why I am getting bigger. Wow. I never thought it would happen. I am motivated to exercise and to move. I want to get this weight off of me once and for all.

Just take it one day at a time.

H, I'm Julie and live in Salt Lake City, UT. Been married almost 25 years and have an 18 year old son. I work from home and find it hard to get my exercise in. I have a lot of chronic injuries with arthritis so I have more painful days than not. Been on SP many years, can't seem to get it right. emoticon

Like Lady Jae I am also a retired RN after 40 years. I am 62 and live in South Carolina. I had to retire because the last knee surgery I had left me unable to sit in a chair without much pain. I have to modify exercise alot but am back to trying to move and build back up my endurance. I am from Indiana originally. I am logging all my food and doing some protein shakes as substitute for breakfast or lunch. Also trying to eat less processed foods. The older I get the harder it is to loose.

Well, 2 invites from Leader, Homebody and here I am. I joined Sparkpeople in 2008, lost weight but gained it back (stupid human!) This time I'm hoping I learned my lesson. Stop by my page and you can gleen a lot of info about who I am. I absolutely LOVE this site, it has been so helpful in my journey and I have gained friends all over the world, some that have left spark but remained my "friend" through other social media.

Hello I am Vicki. I have been on Spark for 5 years. I reached my goal weight and then promptly put all but 10 of it back on. The funny part is the doc said she wants me to lose 10 pounds and that will put me perfectly where I should be. Must be I lost too much before then??????

Hi, I am Jae. I am retired RN after over 30yrs. I am also a widow & live on a remote farm in Illinois very near the Mississippi River where the Confluence is (Illinois & Missouri Rivers join the Mississippi River). I am 67yo & have no living relatives but have 2 mini schnauzer puppydoodles. Am looking forward to see what this Team has to offer!!

hi everyone, I am new here. I just retired and left ohio and moved to n.h. I love the cold and snow. (explanation, I grew up in canada). I am in the middle on nowhere so I cant go the the gym or anything like that, so but I bought leslie sandone tapes and I have a wii fit plus (leftover from granddaughter. After doing a little research on spark people, I saw a lot of people use the "walk it out" tape. Wow, that is hard. Anyway, I promise to do everything I can to keep up with everyone. emoticon

Hello, everyone. I'm Stacy from Texas. I just returned to Spark after a LONG time off. I had went to Myfitnesspal because of its app, but they've changed it and added ads all over the place. I downloaded the Spark app and was very impressed by it.

I like this team's message. Because of health issues, I have to keep my workouts low impact, but I need to get back to strength training. Anyway, I look forward to challenges and posts in this group.

emoticon

Take care,
Stacy

It's hard to eat enough veggies. I always make beans in a crockpot every few days. I eat them in burritos, tacos, veggie burgers, veggie chili, vegan tamales, bean dip, or in salads. It's a versatile protein. Dr. Fuhrman recommends at least a cup of beans/day. I use all kinds of odds and ends of other vegetables in fried rice or curries. I even make veggie dogs out of potatoes, beets, and onions from a recipe I got from YouTube. Almond milk with greens and frozen berries, and vanilla make a nice smoothie.

Hi everyone! My name is Cat and I need help with vegetable recipes! I have green beans, chard, butternut squash, acorn squash, and tomatoes. I usually just bake the squash - plain. And use the chard and tomato in salads. I'm getting bored. I would also like to use more lentils and beans besides in soup.
Thanks!

hi, i'm susan, we've been plant-based for about 7 years now, mostly fuhrman/eat to live style, but not strictly. i reached goal with SP three years ago and am doing my best to beat the odds and stay there. we live in washington state and spend summers in sweden (where i am now). each morning i spend "sparking" and plan the meals for the day (i never could manage a week of planning but at least i know what we are having for lunch and dinner). DH is a retired MD, and we both work as translators/editors. each morning we are out walking or running, and we try to hit 15,000 steps daily. looking forward to meeting others here!

Hi, I'm Tonka. Newly vegetarian (with my fiance) and living in Amherst, MA (often called the Happy Valley). We both currently work at our Alma Mater, UMass Amherst.

We get most of our food from our CSA, and supplement what we don't get from our local farmers market (mushrooms, eggs, etc) and the bulk bins at Whole Foods (quinoa, rice, etc). We cook at home 95% of the time - the other 5% is something we're working on. It's not often, but it's always a last minute decision, and almost never a good idea (usually cost wise).

We homebrew, can, spin (yarn), bake our own breads, and are just starting out in soap making. When we buy a house, we plan to garden and have chickens for eggs (and if there's enough space, a couple of sheep for wool).

I'm new to the team, thank you for the invitation to join. I am 69, live in a tiny town of 3,000, have 5 children (all married), 8 grandchildren, and I am retired. I'm an intense reader and gardener, gourmet cook (not my description, that of the family's), and chief cook for the big family dinners we have weekly. I babysit often (generally daily) for many of those grandchildren, love to be outdoors, and own a small business - these are the things that take up my time. I've always been a mostly plant based eater but have become much more scientific about it in the last few years. Most of my family follows this by their choice, and those who don't are still supportive because I'm the cook and they get lots of good food at my table, even if it is vegan or vegetarian, as the case might be.
