Day 4 for me today. Very pleased with what I have done so far. Yesterday I was within my calorie intake and am happy about that. Did my hour walk as well. Things are looking good.

I am not new to Sparkpeople, but have been inactive for some time. I even had to rejoin as I couldn't remember my sign in info from before. But then again, a new beginning deserves a new Spark Name -
I am 55 yrs old, recently had knee replacement surgery (reason for inactivity) and am a Nanna to 2 boys & 1 girl. All of them keep me busy and so that is why I need to get in better shape.
I look forward to being part of your journey and I hope you will enjoy being part of mine. Together we can do this.

LET's GO TEAM!!

I'm a 52 year old mother to three teenagers. God help me! Love them a lot but they drive me crazy. I've been steadily gaining weight for the past few years and I want to see my numbers decreasing. I love playing tennis and the extra weight is killing my game as well as making my legs and feet hurt.

Hoping this site will make me more conscious of what I'm putting in my mouth and how much time I spend idle.

Hello... I just realized that I didn't introduce myself. Oops. Like everyone else that comes here, I have been on every diet there is with no real results beyond the first few pounds. I have a family history of diabetes with me being the only one left that doesn't have it. I am desperate to get my weight under control in the hope that I don't end up getting it too. I need all the help and support that I can get

Hi I am 50 years old and realized I was physically struggling, winded when walking and such. So I decided to join a gym and hire a trainer for a bit to get me started. I needed to get in shape and lose about 30 pounds. I found the cardio difficult so I faced reality and decided to quit smoking once and for all. I decided to quit quitting. Stopped cold turkey 8 months ago. I feel much better except for the weight gain. Instead of losing weight with the working out and watching what I ate I gained another 25 pounds. So now I really am heavy for my frame. Starting to have consequences from the weight gain also, GERD, Achilles and foot issues. Frustration set in. Making it easy for me to come up with excuses not to work out or care what I ate.
The other day I ran in to someone I hadn't seen in awhile. She said to me "I heard you were trying to quit smoking" with out thinking my response to her was "No I didn't try to quit, I quit. I decided to quit and I did." I realized right then that was the difference in these 2 challenges in my life. With smoking I decided to quit and followed through because of the mind set . I am doing this, I will succeed. No option. With the exercise and weight loss I am still in the mind set "I will try" so as of today I am changing that to" I am doing this. No other option . No excuses." I know there will be slips and hard times but I know I can do this. So time to walk the walk.

Hi everyone! I'm a 37 year old looking to make a healthy change in my life. I have always been somewhat active, but have been much more sedentary over the past few years. Any, my diet has been a bit out of control. Needless to say, I'm the heaviest I have ever been and not happy about it! I'm looking to tone up, get healthier and feel better about myself. I'm hoping SP can help keep the motivation going for me!

I am Karen from British Columbia. Started here about a week ago and still trying to figure out how the site works! I used a different site and lost 130 pounds then open heart surgery got in the way and i ended gaining it all back. Thought i needed a change so here i am back on track to lose 140 pounds in total. Only thinking about one day at a time for now. I am 59 so i need to make this permanent or all my bone surgeries will have been for naught. Feeling slightly less depressed as i am feeling a bit better about being in control of what i eat. Will add exercise at some point. I work full time as an emergency room registered nurse so i get plenty of exercise there but do nothing on my days off. Hoping to have more energy to complete tasks around my house and yard as the weight comes off. coming on this site after work ( my usual binge time) helps me stay focussed

Hi everyone ;)
I'm Amy, a 43YO SWF with a penchant for lifting weights and UFC fights. I also love to paint, read and cook. I'm living a Keto Lifestyle and working towards an earlier successful workout regimen. I like to lift 5 days a week and do 20min./20min. Cardio before and after every workout. Stretching daily am & pm, 5-6 small meals (80%F-15%P-5%C, 1100-1700 Cal) per day, meditation every day (reading can be substituted), and tracking it all here daily! I'll lose weight just staying so busy, and I can't wait to get busier and healthier every day!
I hope everyone achieves their goals, and follows their dreams in life!

Hi, my name is Miller. I'm a 61 yr. old Mom of one 24 yr. old daughter who recently graduated from college and still lives at home. My husband and I have been married for 39 years and we live in North Carolina. I'm not new to SparkPeople, but I've heard other long-time members say they learned new things by completing this New Member Challenge, so I thought it would be helpful for me, too. I'm pre-diabetic and need to lose this weight to get my A1C down and also to ease the pressure on my joints. In November, I'm planning to have arthroscopic surgery on my right knee for a meniscus tear and would like to lose a few pounds before then.

Hi, My name is Sue Ellen. I am 64 years old and have retired about 8 months ago, mostly due to health problems exacerbated by my weight. l I have been married for 40 years to Terry. We have a daughter, aged 24, who is married with two children, and a son, aged 20, who is living at home and working at Meijer for now. We also have 3 dogs. I have struggled with my weight since I was in 2nd grade. I have tried many methods, lost some weight, but it always came back--a story that is familiar to most readers I guess. Now, I weigh 384 pounds, so it has become a matter of life and death for me to get some of this weight off. I have a lot of body pain, and it is hard for me to move around. I try not to listen to the voices of discouragement which say, "You can't lose weight after menopause," or "It is impossible to reset your setpoint." I know that other people have done it, and we have a saying, "What God has done, God can do!"

Something doesn't have to be literally true to be profoundly true.

My name is Gayle. I've tried this before, but life got in the way. My husband and I were in Nashville, TN for 3 months when he had a liver transplant. We were staying in an extended-stay hotel all that time, and constantly eating restaurant food. I gained 15 lbs. I am now up to 168+ and a size 14. I've never weighed that much before. I'm small framed so that's quite a bit. I'm hoping with the help of this site I can eventually get back to a size 10.

Hi all, I've been a member of SparkPeople for awhile but am doing this challenge now to learn the site better. When I first became a member, I had a hard time figuring out how to use the site. I didn't even complete the new member check in procedures because I didn't find them them on the site 'till I'd been a member for many months, and then I thought it was too late to do them. So, I'm doing this challenge now.

Hi, I've been a member of Sparks for a while now, but inactive for most of the past year due to two accidents to my wrist, arm muscles and shoulder/collar bone. Finally healing and can now raise my arm a few inches. I haven't been able to do that for most of the year or use the muscles to open a door, get up from a chair or cook. Just been sitting in a nightgown (couldn't pull up underwear or slacks) and watching tv. I gained so much and lost muscle tone in most of my body.
I'm 64 and feel much older. Now that I can move even a little bit, I want to get back in shape. I would like to lose about 1.5 pounds a week if possible up to my 65th birthday at the end of January. That will undo the damage I've done this year.
I believe learning how to use all the Sparkpeople trackers and challenges will lead me to success.

Jenni--everything you've heard about 30 being a great decade is true. The best thing that comes from age is... experience! The way you will be able to recognize things and social situations and gameplaying and when those moments come where you need to assert yourself--all I can say is'--Get ready to experience the power!

Fine. There are a few physical negatives. But the truth is--most people don't feel a lot of day to day impact from those, other than losing some stretchiness and extended recovery times from hard physical work.

30 is great! Take LOADS of pictures. Twenty years from now, you are going to look back at 30 and say "Wow, I was terrific. If only I had relaxed then, and understood how terrific! --and wow, why didn't I take more pictures?"

emoticon Hope you are enjoying your day.

Hi I'm Jenni. I used Sparkpeople a long time ago and have watched it changed over the years. I used it to help to get in shape in my twenties and eventually ran a marathon. Then I became ill for a few years and lost all of my wonderful habits. I'm ready to start getting them back, but it seems harder this time, so I'm going to be using the social support more than anything this time. I would like to lose around 20 pounds, but the habits and just becoming healthier and more fit overall are more important. Hopefully, the weight loss will be a side effect of that. emoticon
P.S. I'm 30 now...I was having a rough time about hitting the big 30, but I've heard a lot of good things about this decade. I want to make it the best it can be!

Hello all, I'm Kate. I will be 31 in a little over a week and my goal is to lose 30-40 lbs. I spent much of 2015 very ill. After a major surgery and an intense round of steroids and antibiotics I feel like I finally have the foundation to reach my health goals but I have quite a ways to go. I'm here to get back into the swing of proper diet, exercise, and self-care.

Hi, I'm Mary. I'm a Mom of 3 very active kids. My husband and I have had our own business for 10 years. 10 years ago, I lost 50#, but have yo-yoed the weight back on. I want to be a better role model for my family and I want to get rid of this nagging knee pain. I am good with my fitness routine, but you can't exercise your way out of an unhealthy diet. I have an issue with portion control and late night, mindless eating. This is my second day on spark people so I'm still trying to figure out the site. My goal, (for now), is to lose 55 pounds. I hope everyone is having a GREAT and healthy day.

Hi! My name is Jennifer. I live in Southeastern Oklahoma. I am a wife and mother of 3. I do not remember a time when I did not struggle with my weight. As far as I can remember, I have always been heavy. I am NOT looking to get down to single digit sizes, but I am looking forward to getting healthier. I am keeping my expectations realistic. I know my strengths: I am very organized, competitive (with the right motivation), and persistent. I also know my weaknesses: It's hard to stay motivated when the whole family is not on-board, and I get overwhelmed with trying to work full time, cook, clean, and take care of my family, keep track of everyone's schedules and practices and games, etc, and I put myself last. I will be working on those as I go.

Hello everyone. My name is Loretta. I lived in Dayton, Ohio most of my life but currently live with my wonderful husband in Milford, PA. I have struggled with being heavy most of my life but put on most of my weight with my child. I have yo-yo'd for years and it's time to lose it and keep it off. I recently finished my RN and figure if I can do that, this is doable as well!!!

Hi! My name is Dottie and I started the challenge yesterday. I started tracking yesterday and I started ten minutes of exercise today (Sunday). I am not new to spark, but I have not given up either. I keep waiting for that moment when it all comes together and some days it does, but lately I seem to be going in the other direction. I restarted spark and started this challenge so that I could become healthy and feel better about myself and regain who I was before I gained all this weight. Several health issues and I contribute them to the weight gain. I really want to be able to lose this weight and lose the aches and pains that plagued this body of mine.

Look forward to making new friends, renewing old friendships and feeling better about me. Its one day at a time for me and some days one minute at a time.

Hi. My name is Cassie. I am 30 years old and my biggest goal is to eat healthier and be more active. It wouldn't hurt to lost about 60 pounds on the way though.

My name is Christie, I have lost over 20 lbs this year and have hit a plateau. Although I eat fairly healthy I have come to the conclusion that I am eating the wrong way or overeating so, I am here to get on track and be more accountable for what goes in my mouth. I first goal is to lose one dress size, about 20 lbs.

All the best to everyone!

@ Grace: For me, starting is always the hardest part. Starting over is even harder! It helps me to have someone else doing it with me. No one in my house is doing this with me, so I still have to cook all the same yummy meals that I love to eat too. It's not easy, but it is possible! The hardest part is deciding that we are worth it, and believing that we deserve it! At least it is for me anyway. Good luck, praying for great success for you on your journey!

Good afternoon,
My name is Bex. I have struggled with my weight since my early teens. Now, in my mid 30's I am tired of being tired. I want more for my life. This is just the beginning.

Hi everyone I'm Christi! This is actually my second time on SP. I was a member years ago and actually lost 65lbs while on this site! Since then I've been remarried and have had a lot of health issues which has made me gain back what I lost and then some! This past week I was thinking about what I did the last time I lost the weight and my first thought was SP. I thought about getting back on my old account but that's who I was and not who I am now. I am creating a new beginning and am so excited to be on this journey with all of you! :)

Do something today that your future self with thank you for

Hi everyone. I hope I am doing this right. Not very computer savvy. Anyway I am here at sparkpeople hoping to get some help with my goals. Looking to lose weight. Mostly to get in better shape. Needing some support that I can't seem to give to myself.

Hi. I'm 31. I've been on spark before, but I never used the support system; so I'm finally giving it try.
