Thank you 1CrazyDog! Yes, my friend Sheri Diaz was interested when I told her about SparkPeople. So I Emailed her a link and she has started to record her foods and exercise here. Good Afternoon Erin,

Thank you for the warm welcome and the SparkGoody! No my friend Sheri Diaz has become a member of SparkPeople now. She is still getting to know this site so I do not want to bombard her with everything at once lol. I have added you as a friend too.

Welcome to the team Sharmelle and thank you for sharing your intro/story with us. Our team is full of members that come from various backgrounds regarding their health, life schedules and active participation. The one thing we all have in common is our willingness to support and encourage others. We try to better our lives by staying positive and making healthier choices, and possibly making a friend or two along the way.

I see you mentioned a friend of yours joining you on your journey. I didn't see her on our team roster. She can feel free to pop in an look at anytime, but I don't think she will be allowed to leave comments or questions without joining. I wish there was around it but I'm not aware of one.

Feel free to jump into any of our forums, posts, goals and challenges. Everything is set up for folks to join in at anytime. I think everyone here will agree that the more your participate here the better your will feel about yourself, your efforts and your journey. The support and encouragement your can find here is AWESOME!

Wishing you much success on your journey to a happier, healthier you!

(((HUGS))) and happy thoughts to you!

Slow and steady wins the race!

Good Morning TEAM,

My name is Sharmelle, I signed up for SparkPeople way back in June of 2013 But I have been gone for about five years started out because of a move and we did not have Internet until three years after the move because we live in the country and were having a hard time getting Internet services in my area. Then when I did get the internet I logged in once and then did not come back until now. This time I brought a new friend with me and we are going to be working on this together lol. Her name is Sheri Diaz, she is from Houston TX.

Anyways I am finally back and try this again. Now I have some new Health Problems; I am not only diabetic. But I have to go to see my doctor next week because I had some tests done for Guten Intolerance and Celiac Disease. It looks like I may be having problems with both of them so I'll find out next week more about that.

I am a birth Mother of two children plus twins. I have a partner that I have been with for 17 years now. I am a Graphic Artist, Graphic Designer, Photographer, and Poetry Writer. I have started doing Graphic Designs in 2003 and Graphic Arts in 2006. As for the Photography and Writing Poetry, I start doing them both when I was in Elementry School.

I am an administrator for a community that provides a magazine each month. I also have a business I am working on for this Magazine and Community. In addition I have my own business that I need to get back to also. I do a Poetry Activity every so many months in another community for a month which is fun. In another community I do a Question of the Day once a week. Now I am trying to be here everyday lol. Plus I have appointments during the week too. It will all work out; I am use to being busy like this lol.

Erin: Youd be surprised . . . . I am 63. Hmmmm . . . . young in many ways though. Thank goodness for that.

Sounds like you have a lot going on in your family too.

Sons are a bit different. We do hear from DS, but not too often. He leads a busy life. But we raise them to be independent, so I know I did a good job!

Sorry to hear your Mom and Sis are dealing w/MS. Long story short, I was told I had MS in 1998. BUT upon further testing (at my insistence) mercifully, I do not.

Yes, it is so fortunate to have life partners who are on board with life! DH works so hard! Love that man!

That is so wonderful that you help your DILove (Love that term!) with your granddaughter w/special needs. It is not easy!

Jeanne: Oh, I have a lot of tricks up my sleeve. LOL I am VERY happy to be part of ACE!

Wow, Barb. You have had, and still seem to have, a lot going on in life. Glad you have a life partner to join you for the ride. They really do make all the difference, sometimes =) I know I'd be lost without mine.

You must still be a young one yourself -- assuming from the ages of your children... (yes, i know what they say about assuming, but you're never to ask a woman her age =)

I have two birth children --- sons 32 and 37 (may 31). my daughter by choice will be 37 (may 27). My oldest son lives in Spokane WA not far from my mother and sister (Post Falls ID). He is married and going to school and work full time. I don't get to see him much anymore -- makes me sad.

My youngest is here -- that's the family that really drains us (babysitting, chauffeuring, etc) . DH and i practically raised their 1st son for 4 years. Now we are just the primary childcare providers and chauffeurs. His kids are my GD4,GS6 and GS12. Its the 12 yr old I don't get to see much these days so we try and take him one weekend every month for a sleep over with our DILove's son one night of the 2.

My DILove is my neighbor. She is a single mom with DS14y and DD6y. Her daughter is the special needs child that I help with homework and such.

My mom lives with my sister and her husband. Both mom and sis have MS, which was just diagnosed within the past year or 2. I was hoping to get up to visit them this year but now that the housing thing is up in the air we may not be able to. Will just have to pray, wait and see.

Thanks for your share.

Slow and steady wins the race!

I've been on sparks since 2010. Basically a series of healthy problems finally opened my eyes to the fact that I had better take care of this body He gave me NOW, becasue it's the only one I have.

My kids are grown (DS 24 and lives in Alaska -- was stationed there in the Army, and after his medical discharge due to wounding in Afghanistan, he decided to stay in Alaska. Guess SOMEONE has to live there. Too cold for me. DD is 21 and still figuring out what she wants to do in life. That's all right. That's part of the age. She still lives @ home. Says she'll live @ home till she's 39 -- LORD HELP US! LOL)

DH and I have been married 28 yrs. Life has it's ups and downs, but it is nice to share them with him.

I cared for my parents here @ home for 2 yrs. till there were circumstance changes that didn't allow it any more. So they are @ a nursing facility 10 min. from here. I visit daily and make sure their needs are taken care of. Is it perfect? No, but still they do get very good care.

As for me, before kids, I worked as a nurse in med/surg, ICU/CCU/ER. Then moved onto home health care, hospice. THEN into the insurance industry, but THAT was short lived.

Now I have had my legal nurse consulting diploma for about 19 yrs. so I help DH. It is interesting!

That's all about me. Glad I'm here, glad I found SP. Saved my life!

Love is the root of all things good in life.

Wow, Mayie,, at least you have a few things that are starting to look up for you. Don't let the number on the scale be what defines you. You are better than that.

I thought looking back on mine might be interesting after reading yours. Well, it may have been interesting but not wholly encouraging. I've gained back 45 and am still working to get it off. All the crafting and creating with kids has gone to the wayside. I'm still the best gramma "EVER", but it's for different reasons these days. Mostly because I listen, show up, help with homework, I'm consistent and I have food in the house that we "actually cook". =} I haven't touched a thread craft (outside of snowballs or repairing stuffed toys and such) in over a year.

It was definitely a look back to see how much our lives have changed. I too, lost a position/family when our emergency food pantry/soup kitchen. My job has gone from actively moving around an office to doing everything at my computer. I'm still trying to fight the good fight and stay positive so I suppose that makes it all good because it means I'm not done yet =}

Slow and steady wins the race!

Wow, just looked back to where I was when I joined this team about a year ago. No more flyer job. An extra 20+ pounds. Glad that daughter moved out. Still continuing my journey of living with gratitude and positivity. I don't think that will ever end.

Hi, I am Catherine. I have been on spark for 2 years now but I am trying to get more involved than I have been. I am the single mom of 2 amazing kids that keep me busy. I also work full time for a Non-profit here in Medford. My best friend turned me on to spark. I am looking to build a better support system with people that have similar goals.

Welcome Susan and Stacey! I'm lagging behind on my welcomes as I have been very ill. I am having a pretty good day today and decided to check in for a bit!

Stacey we share the same anniversary date. My DH and I just celebrated our 30th - We married very young! As I am only 2 years your senior!

Susan - I do not think I could handle all that cold! More power to you for getting out there and being in it! Congrats on keeping off the weight and keeping at it!

Hi, I'm Stacy (a big surprise!) and I just joined this team and re-joined Spark People nine days ago. I am enjoying this time on Spark People more than my previous times because this go around I am being an active member in the Spark Community, making friends, etc. I really do believe the social support, friendship, accountability, etc. helps.

About me, I'm 45 years old and I have lived in SW Oregon since 1992. My husband and I are empty-nesters and we just celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary on August 15th. I enjoy nature hikes (especially ones that lead to waterfalls), but lately I've been sidelined due to podiatry issues.

I would like to lose around 50 pounds, but more importantly, I would like to regain my health and increase my self-confidence and self-esteem. I would also like to have fun on my weight loss/get fit and healthy journey and make new friends along the way.

Well, I guess that's all for now. Cheerio!

Hello there. I am having a wonderful day. Received a big hug early this morning from one of my grade 4 girls as she exited the school bus. Another student presented me with a bouquet of lilacs from his tree at home. I'm feeling pretty blessed. Also had a cleaning appointment at the dentist and although I am poorer and need to return for replacement of two fillings he did comment that I look 'fit'. I'm taking that as a NSV.

I went to the drugstore to visit my daughter today. She mentioned that I seem happy. I had to stop and think about it for a few moments and then decided, she's right. I am feeling cheerful.
I am very busy running from this little job to that one and my body is sore but the sun is shining and my thoughts are positive.

brrrrr.... i think it would be difficult for me to handle that much cold. we have wet but we don't have it 24/7. takes real dedication to walk out in the cold like that. really!!!

i think you are a great inspiration. you've lost the weight, stayed with the program and are making new friends in the process.

i look forward to learning more about you too. hopefully this will be a place for you to share your feelings -- good, bad or indifferent -- and let go of the negative so you can focus on the positive.

Okay, time to introduce myself. My name is Susan, I am a single mom to a 24 year old daughter who is in the process of leaving home to move in with her boyfriend. I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia but moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA in 1972. We have extremely cold winters which sometimes last for 8 months from first to last snowfall. Haven't worked at a 9 to 5 job since I became a mother so my 'jobs' entail working outdoors, delivering flyers, supervising the lunch program at an elementary school; I have been known to mention our cold temperatures.
I joined SparkPeople 2.5 years ago and have managed to lose 20-25 lbs in that time. My first year on Spark I pretty much went it alone. This past year I have reached out more to the community and am enjoying the support and friendship I have found here.
I joined this team because I realize I need to shift my thinking (attitude) to focus more on the positive. I have suffered depression to varying degrees for most of my life. It helps me to be more optimistic. Looking forward to getting to know you all better.

Gini, I appreciate your response and your candor. I hope I can speak for all of us when I say this team is not about diet, super exercise or religion. this team is more about supportive ways to help ourselves and others be happy and helathy. I see it more as a way of helping me boost not only my self esteem but as a way of others boosting their own with the support and encouragement of others.

i try to have a bit of something for everyone: some diet informtion like "what's on the menu" and some exercise items such as "move it move it" and "making our first million". Mostly they were put there as something to encourage me to do more and eat right. I have been taking suggestions from members to come up with other items that might work for them and help the team as a whole -- "Affirmation A-Z" and "Secrets of Success". Jeanne just offered up a Question Of The Day item. If there is something you think would help you along let me know and I will do what I can to make it happen.

We all have something to offer. We all seem to be learning about self love and self control. As of now, our CHIT CHAT forum is the place for you to feel free to share your good, bad and indifferent. I love how open and honest we are with one another, but if you feel you want a more personal touch you can send a personal e-mail to me and I will respond. Most often the really personal stuff is handled offsides via team goodies when we know someone may be in crisis or needs a little extra TLC.

I'm glad you've started to open up and are willing to share your journey with us. I look forward to getting you know you better.

Slow and steady wins the race!

Hi, my name is Gini and I joined this team a while ago but am just getting used to sharing about myself on teams but here goes:

Name: Gini ( often spelled Ginny )
Age: 62
Where you are from: Ontario, Canada
Birthday:April 26/52
Major reason for joining SparkPeople

I joined Spark to help me lose weight. I have been battling this for many years. I have a very poor level of self esteem and although I have tried some exercises to improve, find myself still unhappy with who I am.

Hobbies I love to cross stitch and knit but since osteoarthritis am not able to do as much as I would like
Pet peeves -- religion is about the only thing that bothers me somewhat. I have my own beliefs and keep that to myself. I do not respond well to aggressive or forceful people and have left teams in the past with1 or more too outspoken people. I find this very nonsupportive.

Do you prefer homemade or ready made?

If I am sad or lonely or bored I go for the most processed things there are but as a rule I prefer to make most things from scratch. I buy pasta but only whole wheat, same with flour and bread and bread products.

I like a chatty group that focuses less on super exercise minutes and more on diet and health in general.

I'm Vicki, and a lot of you know me from other teams. I'm 58 yeas old and I have a good bit of weight to lose. My hubby Bob and I have been working since Sept. 13-2014 to lose 60 lbs. each by Sept. 13-2015. So far he's down 30 lbs. and I'm down 24 lbs. Bob has been in the hospital 3 times in the last 5 years due to heart issues and getting the weight off for him is a have to, if he wants to be here another 5 years. For me, I have RA of the spine as well a mildly high blood pressure and I know losing the weight will help me in both areas. And I know it will help my energy level. All support is appreciated.

Welcome, Michelle. Kickboxing seems rather ambitious to me -- of course i have no balance to speak of and walking is a challenge some days =) I think you'll like it here. the women on this team are warm and welcoming, wonderful and full of encouragement!

Nice to have you with us!!!

Slow and steady wins the race!

My name is Deanna. I am 47 years old and live in Florida. I am married with 2 children and two step children who are all grown. I have 3 grandchildren. I have battled with my weight since I was little. I am very short so it really makes it hard to lose weight.
I love to scrapbook, cross stitch, tole paint, card making. If its a craft I love to do it. I love to read. Right now I am currently reading a Nicolas Sparks book. I am always looking for a good Author.
I love animals, as you can see by my picture. That is my dog Gizzy and my cat Madison.

I'll try and keep it hush, hush, but no promises... the folks on this team love to celebrate =)

so you know how this works.... we have a CHIT CHAT room for general conversations. you seem to be one of those that might like to do that from time to time. I look forward to seeing you there... i check in at least a few times a week if not everyday... depends on what I have to say.

thank you for the heads up on your birthday and your home alone status. I seldom get them myself but i always make the best of them =)

see you later in CHIT CHAT.

Good morning - 8:30 am in Oslo, Norway.

Woman, 51 years, 2 kids, divorced but now engaged.

Living with the most supportive fantastic handsome and thin man.

Been on a diet more or less since I was 16.... I felt fat in my twenties and that was 30 years and 40 pounds ago. Ridiclous. I feel more at ease and love my body and myself much more now. BUT since I hit menopause the pounds keep piling on and this is not healthy in the long run, so in 2015 I will gracefully say goodbye to those extra 28 pounds / 13 kg.

No lets see: I love movies/films, netflix, spend quite some time on facebook, love love love travelling - favorite is Italy.

Please visit my spark page for more information and be my spark friend!

Hi! My name is Jeanne I'm 45 years old and I joined SP June 26, 2014, my birthday, mainly to get my pain management PA off my back but then........ on July 22nd I got serious about it and started getting involved and wanting to lose weight and get healthy. I admit the first thought was losing weight and then after reading quite a few articles the focus turned to getting healthy. I also began a journey to be more self loving. With that comes the desire to always have a positive outlook on life! I have at this point, lost 50 pounds!

I love to read and I love crime shows. My favorite workout is chair exercise due to the fact that I cannot walk long distances. I am getting better though. I started out at 3 minutes and and up to 15 on the walking. I try to workout 5 days a week for at least 45 minutes. I am bipolar and exercise seems to help smooth out my moods. My favorite workout DVD's are done by Stronger Seniors and I have what I believe is the entire collection from resistance bands to yoga! I love Ann Burnell as the instructor on there!

I have been married for 28 years to my and my DH is very supportive of me thank God! He needs to lose about 15 pounds around his middle and while he has a great metabolism, he tends to eat too much of the stuff that is not healthy when he has a treat. He always helps me come up with good ideas for making vegetables and for new things to try!

I do not have any food sensitivities that I have spotted so far. The only thing I have noticed is that if I do not get enough protein and fat, I am HUNGRY all the time so I keep a careful eye on that.

I'll start =)

My name is Erin. I'm 54 on the outside and 5 on the inside (ask my grandkids, they'll confirm it). I live in Medford, Oregon. My birthday is May 29 so I guess I'm a twin (Gemini).

My major reason for joining SparkPeople in 2012 was to loose 100 lbs. I have lost 45 and have mostly managed to keep it off. I stay with Spark People for the accountability and fellowship. It does my heart good to know that I'm not alone in my thoughts and feelings. Having a naturally skinny DH with a metabolism I would die for makes it tough for me to get much empathy from him -- but he does try to be supportive when he thinks about it =}

I love to craft -- mostly thread and yarn types. I knit, crochet, embroider and tat (needle and shuttle) , just to name a few. I also love coming up with new crafts for the grandkids when they visit. Ooey gooey stuff and things that mom doesn't want messing up her house =) I'm not known as "the best gramma ever" for nothing ! I believe if my hands are busy working they can't be shoveling food in my mouth -- its a win-win.

My pet peeve is mostly doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Whether it comes from me or someone else.

I dance / zumba at home, as well as jog/run in place or on a mini trampoline. Walking is my wonder drug -- it clears my head, and makes me more at ease. I mostly use resistance bands for strength training. I have tons of videos from Leslie Sansone to T-tapp and a few in between. I think i even have a RIVER DANCE tutorial =)

I have learned that it is better for me to make things from scratch then rely on ready made. I don't do well with all the processed foods and miscellaneous ingredients. But ready made and fast food have a place in my life now and again.

OK....enough about me.... what about you!
