I wake up at least once a night; sometimes more often. Have you analyzed everything you do during the day? Caffeine and alcohol intake, when is your last meal before bed, when do you exercise? Is there anything in your bedroom that disturbs your sleep? Are you or have you ever been a shift worker?

I used to get up and try to do something boring but now when I wake up I stay in bed and try relaxation/visualization to go back to sleep. It helps.

When I can't sleep I have a horrible habit of turning on the TV which doesn't help put me back to sleep cause I get involved with a movie. I took a class on visualization and learned something to do that works if I work at it. Get in bed and make sure everything is off - no TV, no lights, etc. Close your eyes and visualize throwing everything away that happened to you today. You can deal with it tomorrow. Concentrate on deep slow breaths and put pleasant thoughts into your brain. I like seeing white clouds that take the shape of angels and do not let any worries take your mind away from the angels. Hope it helps. I like a cup of hot tea just before I get into bed.

gosh I thought I was bad since I wake up several times. I sure wish there was an easy fix. All I can tell you is to not get chemically dependent on anything as it is a real problem to get off of sleeping pills and they can really do a number on your digestion system. I am in the process right now of tapering off a sleeping pill that I got chemically dependent on when in the hospital. It is really hard. Good luck finding some answers here.
