For me, the Diagnosis of GERD was over 15 yrs ago. The Dr. give me a paper list with guidelines, which I posted to my refrigerator door.

I found through trial & error that “ Fried Foods at restaurants” were an acid attack to my GI system lasting from all day, to all week; my rule to follow, order only grilled foods, grilled chicken, plain whitefish, like Tilapia with lemon juice AND I follow suite with same simple preparation at home.
Also, Things to avoid, Alchol, soft drinks, chocolate was on the list, plus a few others “ to do”’s, or not do’s .

Welcome to our team! I've had GERD for years. It is getting worse as I get older. My suggestions are to sleep with your head higher than your feet; don't overeat; note which foods cause it to be worse and avoid them. See a doctor regularly, as it can become something worse.

I am Jo Ann and I am new to this team. I had had acid reflux for several years and am on medication. The medicine helps but their are times it catches me completely by surprise.

I am interested in learning more about this problem.

Thanks. I have problems with deep fat fried anything so I avoid it. I think he is learning as he goes, but for home cooked meals, I am trying to modify or find gerd friendly meals.

Hi!
One of the things I found that really bothered me was grease. It helped me to start using method of cooking which did not take so much oil. I also found that items such as donuts and some bakery items would cause flare ups. The combination of fried and sugar just did not work for me.
I will give it some thought and see if I can be of more help. I have changed my entire way of eating and it is difficult to remember what and where I began.
I wish your husband well. It can be quite uncomfortable. He is lucky to have someone willing to help.

Teresa

I just joined this team because my husband was recently diagnosed with GERD. So am needing ideas on food preparation and how to get him to eat as he should to manage it. Any ideas would be great. Especially recipe.

I joined this team some time ago when I was having difficulties with Acid Reflux. I have not been active as since that time my acute reflux got better. However, I do have a chronic reflux if I do not take the steps I know necessary to keep it in control. These are mostly related to diet and stress.

Hello! I am new to this group also. Today is day three for me. I am also fairly new to GERD. The doctor offered no insight. Everything I have learned has been online and through trial and error.

One day at a time!

I've never had bad GERD before. I had it occasionally, but it only lasted until I could eat some yogurt and take some probiotics, then it would go away for months, or even years. I took a course of Amoxicillin and didn't keep up with my probiotics, so I got reflux. I figured it would go away, but even though it's gotten better, it's never gone completely. Went to the doctor finally, and he says I need to lose weight around my middle to get rid of it, so here I am. He wants me to lose 30 lbs., which will take me down to 130.
