Hope all goes well with physical therapy.
I have always felt that the PT does better physical exams than MDs. It will be important to find out what you can do and what you can't do until you can get discs figured out. Good luck.

Evening fellow suffers! I am a newbie! Have degenerative back, with bulging dics, and osteoarthritis. This has been for years but progressively getting worse. I manage most days until nighttime. I start PT again in the next week or two (going to be out of town next week). Have to do the long way around before MRI to actually see what is wrong, got to please those insurance companies. Haven't had a look at the old spine in several years. Heat and NASIDS controls most of the time, occasional hydrocodone when pain is bad enough to prevent rest.

Also look up the core exercises. Hard to believe but have strong abdominal muscles helps protect your back. There are versions of those that everyone can do. I do them lying on my bed...easier than getting down and then back up off the floor! There are also a series of exercise videos you can do on a chair.

And speaking of beds...you might make sure that your bed is not making your back worse. You may need to get a different mattress.

Hi Linda, I sure can understand your pain and desperation. I hope you find the motivation and help here, it is a great site! I have been a member for a few years and haven't scratched the surface of what is available here. I work long hours so don't have lots of time and sitting at the computer is hard on my body. I went the doctors and injections route and now am at a place where they can't do much else so my Dr sent me to a PT which is helping me more than anything else so far! It has made a huge difference in how I feel but unfortunately I did something to my knee and am on limited exercises right now. Still working at it, but am mostly maintaining. I was really disappointed at first but am looking at this as a speed bump in the whole scheme of things. I will be at this my whole life and choose to look at it as the fight of my life. It takes that kind of determination but I have trouble self motivating so I would be glad to friend you and give and accept help. I learned I can't do this alone. I also suffer from foot problems which started all the other problems, everything is connected and it gets hard to stay positive but I'm trying. I can't wait to get to know you better.
I live in western Nebraska but I've been through Houston once I believe. It's probably warmer there right now, we are having really cold wintry weather when we all are dying for spring. But instead, it will go from 30's to 90's and we'll be sick of the heat!

Hello Everyone,

My name is Linda and I am a new member here on SP from the Houston, Texas area. I just found and signed up with SP on Monday because I desperately need to get my life back on track.

I tend to have a really, really self image, bad body image, confidence image, etc., and have slunk into the hermitous (is that a word?) background of this thing we call life over the past year. I have limited physical abilities due to back issues and am not able to do what I need to get to a healthy goal. Through therapy by working out and a change in diet/nutrition, I am hoping to recover my body to a point where pain is tolerable w/o medications and weight and health are not debilitating factors.

I really need to have encouragement, accountability, and to see that something is actually working, so I intend to be active on this site, as well as with my health goals, on a daily basis. I am trying to catch up with all of the activities on the site - there is A LOT to see - and do things right from now on. For now, I just want to get started and hold myself accountable as I REALLY, REALLY, DESPERATELY, try to get my life back, physically, nutritionally, and emotionally.

I think that "ONE DAY AT A TIME" is going to be, no, in my case, HAS to be my personal DAILY motto and goal from now on. Please feel free to “Friend” me, I need all the friends, and help I can get!!! Also, if you are from the Houston area, let me know. I posted my first and second Blogs so take a look for more information about me, and don’t forget to say “Hi”!!!

Looking forward to this new journey and making new friends!!!

Linda
