I wish you luck finding a new doctor; one who appreciates what you are going through.
It is hard to find one though.
I am having a hard time today. I crashed and have felt bad for 2 solid days...not good. emoticon
Please write and let me know how you are doing.

Hi There are some fantastic teams that deal with chronic pain. Look under medical conditions. I belong to backache schackache, the knees and indygirls challenge. I like that group and they have a link to chair exercises for when you are in pain and have to sit to exercise. If you would like I can send you an invite to join the group. Let me know.

Hello- Im the one who posted this, i didnt realize my OLD account was still open and created another one.. OPPS, anyways, I deleted the otherone.
I know that weight has soemthing to do w my back pain, but it is not the sole problem. What bothered me was he seemed to only want to address the weight, YES i need to lose, but i think it was rude of him to not want to address the pain, like waht, you only want to work w me AFTER i lose it, what about during it?? its hard to excercise when its so stiffl. Anyways, i just gotta keep working on it in the mean time. I look forward to hopefully hearing some ideas on how to get active and deal w this condition.

"Hello--im 34-and have had lower back pain for years-degenerative D.D is my dx. I had an MRI last week, and the ortho doctor i went to was like-LOSE WEIGHT and stretch more. OH, ok, thanks for bieng so sensitive. So thats what i gotta do.. Lose wieght and work on my core. And see if these anti inflam meds work. MY weight is like a yoyo, right now its up. i think it is directly linked to my back pain- it starts hurting more-i move less, get depressed, and this cycle lasts for months. I need to break it! i need to find away to stay energized and mobile!"

I disagree. Some doctors anymore go the easy way out and put all the problems on weight. I know that weight has something to do with it but my mom is barely 100 lbs and has had back problems for years. I saw a doctor a month ago who was very much like your doctor and I left sobbing. I found another one and he is able to help me. Of course I need to lose weight or I would not be on SP but not everyone is tall and thin. As a matter of fact some tall and thin people have just as many problems. I recall a doctor I had many years ago when I lived in Ca that was tall and thin and he had back problems himself. Just because a doctor has been in practice for many years does not make me capable. Look for another doctor until you find the right one, one that wants to help you; one that looks at you as a human being and takes his job seriously.

Your Dr. is right. There is a direct correlation between weight and back pain. When you are overweight, you don't move as well or as often. Your muscles get stiff which causes pain. You can have degenerative disc disease and not be overweight. I had it and weighed 102 and was a size 0 My brother has it and is thin now. My sister has curviture of the spine. and she is not overweight. It sounds weird, but the more you move the better off you are.

I have lost around 70 lbs in 11 months and my knees and back don't bother me as much as they use to. I went from walking with a walker to walking with a cane to walking by myself. I can go down the stairs without crying in pain and needing help. It hurts worse going down than coming up. Your Dr. may not have a good bedside manner but he is no idiot. Not after 12 plus years of training. I would listen to my Dr.

Your doctor is an idiot, excuse me for saying that! Of course you are overweight, we all are if we have dengerative discs. We can't hardly move. I've had doctors tell me the same thing, thats why I have a new doctor. Hang in there! It's not all your fault!
