Hi! I am new and also a critical care nurse. Out of work due to herniated discs , have bursitis from compensating uggg etc. Preparing now for spinal fusion. They will have to do mine through my abdomen due to some abnormal nerves in my spine.

I am using spark with fatsecret.com. Both awesomely free. Spark has more support. the other has access to largest data base of calorie, carb, fat thingy I have found.

I have lost 37 lbs, watching my diet and an awesome physical therapist.

Welcome IT_NURSE. I assume that you are also getting some physical therapy for your problems as well. That's always a plus. One of the articles on exercising with back pain is about strengthening your core muscles. If you are going to a physical therapist you might run those exercises by them to see if they are okay for you to do.

Good luck on your journey to better health.

PS - did you change your name? Because your message came in as if addressed to MINIMACKAY? Wouldn't be the first cybermystery I've seen around here.

Calorie tracking is working for me. Because of my back I have to be careful what I do, but I seem to be getting a bit better. Hope you find the site enjoyable.

Hi! I am new to SparkPeople; one of my friends suggested that I check it out and so far it looks like a great place! I'm an RN, currently off work due to back pain and bursitis in my hips (trochanteric bursitis), hoping to find a way to lose weight instead of gain while I'm off. I tried Weight Watchers a few years ago and lost 65lbs, of which I have re-gained 20, but I'm looking for a new program to try. I have downloaded the SparkPeople app and I'm hoping I can stick with this program until I reach my goals, and hopefully make some new friends along the way! :)
