I was in a bad car accident and had a compressed fracture of L2. Prior to the accident, I was running 10-15 miles a week. I tried to return to running, but got really bad back spasms. I have a long commute to work. I had to reduce my work week to 4 days. The doctor suggested a Pilates class. I started to take private Pilates lessons and that made a big difference. That was about a year ago. My husband and I have just joined a country club with an elaborate weight room. The Pilates instructor is going to meet me there and help me learn which machines I should avoid and how much I should lift so I can continue to strengthen my back outside of my weekly lesson.
I didn't find my PT sessions after the accident very helpful. Not sure why.I found swimming to be very good on my back, but I missed the cardio of running. The same was true for me with walking...There are lots of people on the forums that do nothing but walk and lose a lot of weight.

I was diagnosed with tear in a knee ligament and a pulled hamstring. During my PT I pulled muscles in the lower back. Doctors were not too pleased about the PT allowing it to happen. As a result, they have given me strict limitations. Basically, walking is what has been approved. I do have floor exercises for my knees and use hand weights for upper body strengthening. Does anyone else have limitations to their exercising? Do you find walking to be sufficient exercise?
