Welcome INEXILE60,
I've found that for loosing weight I've found that my body is far more sensitive to grams of carbs eaten per day than I ever would have imagined.

Any weight loss in a week is a good week, but I think that you'll find that during Atkins induction, which is quite low carb that you'll probably loose about 2 pounds in the week.

Hello - I, too, am happy to find this group. I've been lurking in the background for a few days, reading all of the advise, and encouragement, and finally decided to introduce myself. This was my first day on induction. I have been following another low-carb way of eating for 8 weeks and have lost 13 lbs. I am hoping that Atkins WOE will help the pounds come off a bit quicker - induction level is far more strict than what I was eating. I think I may even weigh tomorrow to see if I've lost anything yet. lol

Welcome SITTINGONTIME.

About 30 grams of carbs a day is low. To get there you shouldn't eat carb high things like potatoes, rice, the usual breakfast cereals. For example the suggested serving of Alphabits is 30 grams, and about 20 of those are carbs.

Then, you need to read labels and find nutritional information on other things and make your choices from there.

Hi there! It really is amazing when you start reading up on low carb dieting and how well it works and why... yes, giving up potatoes is a great start! I read the Atkins book and when I started the diet, the first 3 days were horrible. My body fought me tooth & nail & my mind couldn't comprehend the fact that I was giving up breads, pastas and potatoes! However, by day 4 I felt great and I stopped craving all that stuff. It's amazing. Anyway, welcome to the group - go thru old threads - the people on here are knowledgeable, friendly and willing to help! Good luck :)

Hi and welcome!

The best thing you can do right now is a little reading and self-educating. There is a TON of misinformation around about what low carb is and how healthy it is or isn't. A really great starting place is at About.com:

http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/lowcarb
101/a/gettingstarted.htm

Laura Dolson writes very clearly about what you need to know - and she has some great recipes too!

TWESTEN1,
People put down a low carb lifestyle the same way drunk people try to get sober people to drink more and be more fun. It's an addiction.

The usual things I hear are like this "what, no potatoes? That's crazy, I can't live without potatoes". It's carb addicted people wondering how you can be satisfied with virtually no carbs.

Thanks for the hello! I went thru the same thing last week - that time of month & I was CRAVING sweets. Fortunately I had some of the Atkins peanut butter cups in the freezer and each night I'd snack on a pack. I don't like to depend on them b/c I think the sugar alcohols are not helping me, but sometimes we just need that something sweet! Anyway, happy Monday to you!

No advice, just a friendly hello!

My only thought about low carbing is that just like anything in life, it changes.

I had a great week last week - no cravings, low carb (even low calories). I thought I had this whole game figured out. Low carb, not hungry,no problems!

This weekend, I was FREAKING STARVING! I still basically stayed on-plan, but somehow two cookies dipped in chocolate made their way into my mouth last night. Other than that, it was all protein, protein, protein.

WELCOME! emoticon

Thanks for all the welcomes ~ much appreciated! And James the link you posted was great - I've found so many great links just from this group over the past 2 days & I really need all the help I can get. It still amazes me that so many people put down the low carb lifestyle. I feel so much better and again, this is the first time I've been able to stick to a plan. Hope you all have a great upcoming week!

TWESTEN1,
Two pieces of advice, track your grams of carbs and keep them low, probably 20 to 40 per day.

Make it through the first week, or week and a bit. The shock of carb depravation makes the body like a spoiled child wanting more, and sort of throwing a tantrum, but it gets better. The side effects of switching from carbs to burning your own body fat are sometimes called the Atkins flu. Some advice on this page on how to ease that:

Hi and Welcome!

Use all the great SparkPeople tools. I'd advise, though, to only join a handful of teams and stick to the ones that are active. That's where you'll find the most motivation!

You'll find lots of experience and support here. LC is a great lifestyle. I try not to press my luck with it on the main boards; they really aren't ready to hear it out there! But we're "sold" on it - and glad you are, too.

Hope you'll check in with us often and join our talks and share your journey with us.

Hi all,
I just received my Spark Tracker and started Sparkpeople today. A month ago I began the Atkins Diet and FINALLY found something that works for me! It's horrible being so close to 300 pounds and never having the energy to do anything. It seems like this website is very encouraging and motivating so I'm glad to be here. Any special advice from other low carbers would be greatly appreciated!
