Hi, I'm Vicki and I have 50 lbs to lose to get back to a healthier weight for me. I won't be thin; I'll even be considered over weight still, but I won't be obese anymore and that's what my goal is at this time. To lose the "obese" label and be healthier.

Hi, Jeanine and Judi. I apologize for not posting here sooner, but I never check this thread. I'm such a creature of habit that I check in on the monthly chat thread and don't wander around anywhere else.

We're really glad you joined. Now jump into the chat on the Summer Losing Summer Trying thread and contribute. We'd love to visit with you. And always let us know if you have a question or need some support. We're here!

Hi Everyone! I am a newbie here...joined SP on June 15th. My name is Judi and I live in MN. I am so motivated and ready to get myself in control and lose this weight while just becoming more healthy. I will be 60 in Dec. and I would like to have a good chunk of this weight "down" by then, but my main goals are to become healthier overall, hopefully get off some of these meds in the process and truly start enjoying life again. This team looks like a perfect fit for me, I enjoyed reading many of the posts and you all have inspired me. Looking forward to joining you.

Hi everyone,

My name is Jeneane, I am 54 years old and have been a lifetime dieter. I have lost and gained the same 70, 80, 90 lbs all of my life. But no more, I joined Spark on January 3rd of this year and so far, by changing my eating habits, not dieting, I have lost 37 lbs. and gone down 5 sizes. I am working on getting more fit, and healthy. I live in Oskaloosa, Iowa now, formerly from Western N.Y. Buffalo area. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 31 years last week. When we retire, in a few years we want to RV and travel all over this beautiful country. I will be healthy enough to hike up those hills and enjoy the scenery. That is my goal. emoticon

HI team, I will re-introduce myself as I have been absent about two years. My name is Donna I work for the State of Utah as a financial analyst. I went away from Sparks while I was attending school, it became too much to handle.

I have now graduated and want to get back on the Sparks bandwagon, I remember many of you from before.

For exercise I walk and work in my yard. Donna emoticon emoticon emoticon

Every day in every way I will choose a healthy lifestyle~

I'm Margie. Been on SparkPeople.com since mid April and lost about 8 lbs. I've lost AND GAINED about 300 lbs. over the course of my lifetime. When I saw myself inching up AGAIN (literally) a couple of months ago, I panicked. Tried to do all the old things I used to do to lose weight, to no avail.

Then I got smart and started looking around the Internet and happened across this wonderful site. I feel like I finally found my way home. This stuff makes sense.

Hope to get to know all of you. If you'd like to learn more about me (I'm an artist, author, humorist, professional speaker, former college prof., Nanni to 7 grandsons, and I work in the nonprofit realm), visit my page.

Blessings,
Margie

Hi, everyone, I'm Sue, a native New Yorker, longtime binge eater (with periods
of abstinence) and I turn 50 in a little more than 100 more days (not that I'm
counting, LOL!!)
I'm here for some uplifting, and promise to uplift you guys and girls, too.
Age never bothered me but this upcoming 5-0 is not sitting well with my soul.
Menopause is not my friend, I'll tell you that..

best wishes, looking forward to meeting all of you, Sue emoticon

Hello Everyone, I've been in SparkPeople for almost 2 years now. In the beginning, I lost about 25 pounds but gained most of it back with stress eating. I'm 53 and in pretty good health but a little overweight. I belong to our local gym, Tamarac, and will try to make it in as often as possible for workouts and classes. Tracking my food and exercise was the key to my weight loss the first time around. I know I can do it again! emoticon

Hi, My name is Elsie and this team is just what I have been looking for. I do not have a pedometer, but will get one the first of next month at the latest. (hopefully sooner!) I liked what you said on this site about how counting steps is better than counting minutes. I am looking forward to joining in on your activities.

I joined SP last May but did not continue. I'm ready to start again. Tomorrow I start the self-discipline of recording food & exercise.

I have 4 big projects going on in my life and they are causing stress-eating.

1. Fifteen ladies in our small mountain city, Midway, Utah, started a gift & fabric store 2-1/2 years ago. Because of the economy and no foot traffic in the winter, we are meetings next week to decide the next step. I am Board Chairman.
2. I am the Chair of a National Convention - Friends of the Creche, an organization for anyone who owns, collects, or loves nativities. It is a 2-1/2 day convention in Salt Lake City in Nov. so that stress will end, if I live through it.
3. We are building a house in St. George, Utah. We moved here from Los Altos, Calif. and it is getting colder each year I am here - 12 years. Could that be?
4. Then...I am in a 2nd marriage to a man who has 6 children and I have 4. Ten children + 10 spouses + 35 grandchildren (ages 3-20) = 57 family members! Each want a piece of me: mom, step mom, grandmother, step grandmother and wife!

I am not complaining because "I am a victim of my own circumstantial." I truly love it all, but each time I receive a disturbing phone call or email, I go for the food! Recording my food & exercise will help and I have promised myself that I will do it. No one is going to take care of me except ME!

Thanks for the welcome!
GH aka Grandma Holly

Hello to Ellie and all the other members from Laurel in Sunny Western Washington (today, anyway....)
Can you stand another new member? I'm 51, battling diabetes, and trying to change my lifestyle so I'll be around to watch my new grandson grow up. Life is good, and I want to explore and enjoy the parts that don't include chocolate! I hope this site will help with my motivation to stay on target with my food and exercise plan.

Hi,
Finally found time to stop by. I just turned fifty with the new year. Been obese most of my adult life. Reached goal weights twice in the last twenty years and not maintained. I need to loose it and maintain it after it is lost. So here I am for the last time. By this time next year I hope to be fit and healthy.

Hello All! I am new and have 100 lbs to lose. I am enjoying this wonderful sight. I am indeed over 50. I am a new grandma and love the time with our beloved grandson. Life is good. I have a wonderful husband and our kids are great. I did have a small stock in 2007 but am doing good thanks to my Lord. Life is a blessing and a gift. God bless! Keep your chin up. Looking forward to great long lasting friendships. emoticon

Good morning all! I'm Connie in California, 52, been w/Sparkpeople over a year now, but let myself get stressed out, ate poorly, drank too much, and didn't exercise. So now, here I am instead of celebrating that the 40 pounds I wanted to lose last year are gone, setting a new goal of 50 pounds for this year! It's all good.

Hi, I'm moving over from the Fit by Fifty Team. I know I could have stayed...but it was rather depressing to be reminded that I didn't make my weight/size goal by my 50th b-day.
I'm restarting as well. Ya know, the holiday rush of it all.
Looking forward to the chat and support.

I just re-joined your team. I'm 52 years old and have about 50 lbs to lose to get to a healthier weight. I've only been playing at trying to lose this whole year it seems so now it's time to get serious about getting this weight off. (see my blog).

Hi,
I'm Ellen, I live in Longmont Colorado and I'm 54. I'm an electronics engineer who got laid off in June and I was very depressed until I came across SparkPeople while surfing the web one day. It's encouraging to see how other members are reaching their goals. I had just about given up. I did survive Navy boot camp over 30 years ago, so bring it on ladies. emoticon

Remember, nobody can go back to the very beginning and make a brand new start, but anyone can start here and make a brand new end.

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results."

I am reintroducing myself. I am Cherry and I am 53, about to be 54 in a month. Wow time flies. It has been a while since I have been at sparkpeople. I get on the weight loss for a while and then get sidetracked. But I need to get motivated again and get this weight off. It is good to know that you ladies have a lot of the same problems I do with weight, menopause, and so many other things. Ok I am ready to get fit and healthy. Looking forward to talking with ya'll.

Hi Vickie, glad to see you here! It's also gotten harder for me, post-menopausal. The weight just doesn't come off like it used to! To think that I took it for granted that if I got real busy, the weight would melt off like it did when I was 30.

However, I'm finding that it does come off if I follow my food plan, even if slowly. These days I need to combine sensible eating with exercise, but I'm learning to really enjoy that, so it's a good thing.

Good luck in meeting your goals! One day at a time is what works best for me!

Hi, I'm Vicki, and I need to lose at least 50 lbs. Possibly more. I'm currently 224.4 lbs and my goal is 175 lbs. Once I meet the goal I may work to go a little lower.
I gained 90 lbs in just over 3 years when I went into full menopause and just can't seem to lose the weight as I had in the past. I lost 105 lbs in the early 80's and kept it off plus more for about 18 years.
Now I find myself sitting more on the fence; some days finding it really hard to stay motivated to get this weight back off. I have little energy and simple things like getting out of the bathtub are difficult for me to do.
I can use all the motivation and support I can get.

Boot camp sounds just like what I need! I do have to be careful how I talk to myself about what I'm doing. If I say the dreaded "D" word, I'll be off & running. Eating plan works better, because then it's a choice and not a rule.

I'm doing OK, just for today (my 3rd day). I think it's because I've been moving towards a healthy eating style for some time -- so there's less shock about the things I no longer choose to eat. Now it's more portion control, although I have cut down on the amount of some foods because of the guidance of my Meal Plan. I REALLY like that I can choose the foods I eat, rather than being forced to eat somebody else's idea of a good meal plan. It makes me less likely to bolt for the ice cream ... emoticon

I am on the far end of 50 and have been walking for sometime but the body is stuck. So I ramped up the distance and got a pedometer. I am looking for some guidance and motivation to move more and just stay healthier (losing 20 # would be a plus also).

Hi everyone. I was here a couple of years ago and didn't manage to stay with the program or lose my weight. But I'm rejoining today, and just absolutely determined I WILL DO IT THIS TIME...LOSE IT AND KEEP IT OFF. It is lovely to see some of the names I remember, you all are a wonderful group.

I'm 57, and have 50 lbs to lose and I know I will do it with your humor and support!

Hi Everyone,

I'm 51, turning 52 this month. I have been away from SparkPeople for about 6 months, since I got a new job and have had my daily routine greatly changed. I have about 25 pounds to lose, but since marrying for the first time 4 years ago, I have had a terrible time sticking with a diet/exercise routine, and the pounds are not coming off. I hope to change that with encouragement and motivation to change habits. I am going to my first Pilates class after work tonight; hope that may help me to tone. emoticon

I was asked to re-post this here, so for those of you who have already read it...read it again and be motivated to love you for you!!!
Hey everyone! I am a go getter! I am here to get after my butt which is beginning to move south. It is so not going to happen!! My weight has been a yoyo my entire life. I have come to realize I can only be who I am. The more I beat myself up the harder it is to lose weight. I have thrown out my scale, yes, I refuse to ever step on another scale in my life. My clothes and how my body feels will rule my world. I exercise everyday and have always eaten healthy at meals, my down fall is when I get stressed I grab for snacks So I am loving myself thin. I journal daily and use positive talk to reverse negative thoughts. I feel 100% better, my clothes are looser, I don't think about food, it does not rule my world, it only fuels my amazingly beautiful body!!

Hi everyone, I am 51 going on 52 this month and have been struggling with my weight all my life. I lost 60 lbs. after my first husband passed away, and then after re-marrying I have gained most of it back. I have one married daughter, one daughter having my first grandchild and one son. I have a step-son and a step daughter. I want to get healthy and stay healthy for all of them. It has been a struggle losing weight since I have turned 50. It didn't seem as hard as it is now. I am hopeing that people my age can give me the support that is needed to hurdle this long haul. I have lost approx. 7 lbs. since Mid Jan. Since I have been a member of Sparks as of March I have lost 6 lbs. So it is helping.

Thanks Bonnie for your words of inspiration. Can't wait to get started. And I did re-join the swimsuit boot camp contest.

Sheryl

Hi, My name is Chris. I am 56 with a goal to lose over 50 pounds by Feb 2009. I joined Sparkpeople in March and have been enjoying using the Nutrition and Fitness guides. I am married to a wonderfully supportive man who is extremely pleased that I found this help! I have 2 married daughters and 4 grandchildren. I took an early retirement last September, and after 30+ years of long work hours, I am finding great pleasure again in learning to be a homemaker, homebody!!! emoticon

LOL! Actually it made more sense the way you meant it; I just read it wrong. Anyway, that's great that your family is involved also. I wish I could get my husband and sons involved. My husband will hike with me some, but he's not much on eating healthy, so I'm kind of on my own in that department.

I can't imagine paying for two weddings in one year. My sister just recently paid for one of her daughters to get married and it was unreal how much she spent. I have a son who is supposed to be getting married in 2010 when they both graduate from college and I'm sure with their finances I'm going to be paying for some of it. I suppose that's part of being a parent.

Sorry, I stated that badly.. We (my daughter and I) are working together towards a goal... The 5K walk/run times... Wish I was planning a vaca, not in the cards with the money situation at our house, both daughters were married within a year of each other... Killed the budget... Thanks for the nice words.. I know men lose weight easier than woman and I know it can be frustrating. I am just trying to keep the healthy activities and eating habits up. And support my family team like they have helped me lose my weight.

Trying to get and stay motivated.

Hi Steve. When is your family planning on making the trip? We're going in June of next year. I wish we could go a little earlier when it's cooler, but my friend (Alyce) is a teacher, so we have to wait until school is over. I also saw from your SparkPage that you live in St. Louis. I lived in Godfrey, Illinois many, many years ago as a child. I would love to go back through there some time and would also like to take my husband up into the St. Louis Arch.

By the way, you have done awesome on your weight loss. Congratulations!

SWDESERTLOVER Great goals... We are doing this as a family too.. The only real goals we have set are to 1st finish a 5k walk/run and then keep improving our times... My Oldest daughter and I finished one last year and this year we beat our times from last year (brought along my wife and her husband).. The healthy group keeps growing.. lol.

Trying to get and stay motivated.

Hi Ladies. I'm Cindy and I live in North Carolina. I joined SP a few months ago and have lost 18 pounds so far. I kind of hit a plateau for several weeks, but I'm starting to see results again. I just turned 50 and I definitely need a "Boot Camp" right now because I have one year to get into really good shape. My best friend and I have made a commitment to take a trip next June (2009)to backpack into Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon and Keet Seel near Kayenta, Arizona. Even my DH is not protesting because he knows how much we want to do this. These have been dreams we've been talking about for 10 years, but finally decided to stop putting it of. So, next June is the time; no excuses, no delays. I have about 30 more pounds to lose and have to get my hiking legs back. Looking forward to being a part of this group.
Cindy

Been gone for awhile. Crazy life, second Daughter got married (two within 1 year). Job change, working from Home now, On Call, etc... Starting to get more active in Spark to get some inspiration, support and challenges. I go to WW with my Wife and Daughter, just thought Spark (especially this Group) might help during the day when I am at home working. I am doing good, lost 80 lbs and knocked 7 minutes off my 5K walk/run from last years time (down to 37 minutes. But I have been struggling lately.

Trying to get and stay motivated.

Hi all,
and welcome to the Bootcamp---
we are a lively supportive bunch and we're all here for the long haul.

I may have to check out that allergy thing, too, cuz, the last 20 pounds doesn't want to budge!

Stick with us and we'll root you on and commiserate when you're down.

emoticon I like the "love yourself" challenge.

Can someone tell me what the difference between this team & the other "Over 50" teams? I just want to lear what the focus of this one is.
Thanks
