Hello everyone.

I am not new to SparkPeople but new to this team. When I first started to lose weight it was easy - 40 pounds in 6 months. And then the weight loss stopped. 16 months later I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and then the weight loss quit. In fact, no matter how well I tracked my food and exercises, I started to put the weight back on because my metabolism changed and slowed down. Add menopause into the metabolism mix and it slowed down so much I have moved into reverse. In the last 4 years I have gained back almost 1/2 of the weight I initially lost. and nothing seems to work to reverse that trend. After my last lab results, my doctor put me on blood sugar medication. My challenge now is how to manage both diagnoses. I am doing a lot of reading on the diabetic eating plan and how carbs are important, yet from everything I have done to educate myself about hypothyroidism, people have the best results by eating a low or no carb/ high protein diet. It seems both diets contradict each other so I am trying to figure out what to do...and I am not quite sure at this point. Anyone else dealing with these two issues? I would love to hear how you balance both and are able to be successful at weight loss.
