I think it's helpful to vary the training runs, sometimes doing a longer distance that will build endurance and letting the speed gradually come, but also doing intervals--running as fast as you can for 30 seconds to 1 minute and then doing about the same amount of time jogging slowly (or walking). Repeat the intervals for at least 10 minutes.

I'm excited!!! I ran a 5K this morning in 36 minutes. That's about 2 minutes quicker than my last run on my own. I'm going to stick with the walk run (as fast as I can) walk run (as fast as I can) to improve my time.

I should have looked for some research. Would have saved myself some time. Unfortunately, I tweaked my knee during my 2nd training day run and I'm still resting / walking.

I've been doing some research about what I should be doing, endurance or time and I read somewhere that you should work on endurance and as it gets easier, you'll naturally improve on time. There are also alot of methods that you will find if you google it. Good Luck!

I was trying to increase my speed in 1.5 miles then thought I'd increase the distance over time. I had 1.5 miles down to 16 minutes from 18-20 when I started. Now I'm in this program and only got 2.6 miles in the 32 mins. And I was worn out at the end. 1.5 miles wasn't long enough maybe.

Way to go. 30 minutes would be great. I never could quite reach that. Good luck.

I went through the rookie 5K training program and ran my first race. Now I'm trying to improve my overall time. Hoping this program will help. I think it get boring having to run for 40 minutes to finish a 5K. I've reduced it by a few minutes so far. Want to get closer to 30 minutes.
