Signed up for second one. This is in July and is part pavement, part beach! I have never tried to run in the sand before, so this will be 100% new! I live an hour away and have work and school so won't have much time to practice. Maybe I can find a kid's sandbox?

Fortunately, I tutor anatomy and physiology and know the foot and ankle inside and out, literally. I have studied my shoe wear, studied my ache patterns, felt how I land when I walk and run, had a physical therapist watch me and had Xrays done. I would LOVE to go to an actual running store, but the closest one is an hour away. So that isn't happening this week! The difference in today's new shoes was amazing, though. I already feel better after running in new shoes than I did walking without them.

Relatives are moving to Bend, OR. They've already invited me to "Pre Country" & I said I would do a race there for sure!

It's the first thing I will tell anyone who wants to run! Insure that when you go to a RUNNING STORE, you get a gait analysis for a proper shoe! I see people in Dept Stores & Sports stores trying on shoes and clueless as to what they need. Do not get hung up on brand either or fall in love with your shoe. I ran for 2 years with the ASICS Kayano 17 & 19. After an updated analysis in Dec 2012, (when you've burned out your shoe, get another analysis done.) I found that my gait was improving and now I'm fitting into the new ASICS 3000. You'll be loving your run in no time! Cool runnings!

Just signed up for one on Prefontaine's own turf June 23rd. I hurt my ankle so I don't dare start practicing again til I go out and get some real shoes. I've been wearing some I got at a thrift store. Oops. Big mistake.

Great to have you reporting your progress, Lucy! All the people I know who have dome the Color Run have reported nothing but fun. I also got tips from them. Wear a white Tee, whether you walk/jog, wog, run or crawl, make sure you are on the outsides of the pack, and dance shake, do anything crazy to get attention at the color stations for maximum color! EVERYONE is looking to have a good time, so don't be nervous, have fun, and embrace the experience!

I am going to do a FUN run for my first 5k, it's a Color Run on June 16th. I am really excited about it, but a tad bit nervous, too. I guess I am hoping because it is more of a FUN run, I won't be as nervous about it!
emoticon

I had previously gone through one of the other sparkpeople 5k running programs, but because it was an 8 week program, I thought I better do this 5 week one since June will be here before I know it. I just finished day 2 of running, and I am feeling pretty good. Hopefully, day 3 goes just as well!

GOOD LUCK to ALL!

Hi Stephanie!
Welcome! You go ahead and join that most meaningful race. I'm sure there will be a mix of participants making the effort for sucha great cause. I've completed my 26.2 for those Boston Marathon runners. I'm doing another fundraising run (2.62K) for Boston on May 8 in St Petersburg! I invite all locals to join me.

You start this program and you'll be ready even if you walk the race. I know you will come back and share the experience. If you have any need, don't hesitate to address them here.
Remember that this is your run and you run it the way you want. Cool runnings...

I haven't officially signed up, but I think joining this team might have been the step I needed to do in order to convince myself to just do it. Plus the race is to support Boston's One Fund, since I live only ten minutes outside of Boston, I think it'll be good for me and everyone else involved.

Personally, I recommend a 5K a month. That coupled with training will keep you in shape and watching what you eat. I might have been running a bit too much so I'm cutting down to one run a month minimally. That will keep me maintaining for sure!

I am going to sign up for Race for Life on 15th July. I have done this twice before now, and it's always a great atmosphere. It's a women's only race for breast cancer.
I would like to do a 10k by the end of the year. There is one taking place in my home town, so I may sign up for that depending on how my training progresses.

That 3-Day will be a great motivator for proper training. My sister did it a while ago and I remember her training for it. Meanwhile with your runs in May, that will keep you forcused. All the best.

You'll do great on your 8k. Don't be afraid to walk if you have to. it's finishing that matters. I've got an 8k on April 7 and I haven't been outside running in weeks.

I'm doing a 5K on April 7. I've been jogging again since October and have casually done the training program but now am seriously training again. I'm in Week 2 of the program and am excited/terrified about my race!

I'm also thinking about doing another 5K in June and one in July.

I'm registered for a local 5k run/walk on April 20. I'm hoping to use this program as a starting point in my training. Once it's completed I'll be focusing on endurance and possibly speed if I'm able to run the entire 5k comfortably. This will be my first 5k so I've got a lot of hard work to do.

Someday is today!

Hey Toni!
That 8K is 5 weeks away. You should be able to shake the bug. I did Emergen-C to head off an illness and was ready a week before to do my 10K last week. I'm taking it easy now as I have the Gasparilla Distance Classic Half Marathon on Feb 24. You've done a 5K, that 8K is a gret next step. You do that 8K and the 10K will be a breeze. DSSECRETS & I agreed that we love that 10K distance, more so than a 5K! But we've done 4 Halfs in the last year. In any case, I'm excited for you as I know you will enjoy it. Whether you walk, jog, wog, or run it with intervals, finishing is the goal. I know you'll do it! Need any assistance, just holla!

There's a Saint Paddy's Day 8K coming up soon, I'd like to sign up for that. I've run 5K's but nothing more, and really want to push it up to a 10K this year. An 8K seems reasonable, but I've been sick the past week & haven't done any running. I've started walking again, and hopefully will run a couple of miles tomorrow, that's the plan anyway. emoticon

I did Santa's Twilight 5K on Honeymoon Island this past Christmas with my wife & 6 year old granddaughter. I ran it, finished, then retraced about 3/4 of a mile walking to get to them as they were still walking. I realized I was a bit disoriented when running, focusing on the road. Walking it was so much easier. Funny thing is I had already done a "speed" Say No to Drugs 5K earlier that morning...and beat that time in the dark!

I swear by Jeff Galloway's methods. I know so many who use Jeff's interval plan on Half and Full Marathons. The method makes total sense AND, irrelevant but proven, you will pass a lot of runners who passed you earlier in the race! Train well and run well!

I'm not that confident in running in the dark. I can be rather clumsy and I'm always afraid I will end up wiping out.

There's a race coming up at the beginning of Feb., but I'm not sure if I'll be running it. The weather here has been very cold plus I haven't done much outdoor running this winter. Will have to see in the next couple of weeks.

I'm going to order Jeff Galloway's Half Marathon book.

I see a lot of smart runners here! As soon as I finished a 5K on my own, I immediately signed up for an official event. Yes, it was my slowest time to date BUT it was my first benchmark! Since Nov 2010, I've done 29 5Ks and 2 Half Marathons. I'm in the middle of a personal challenge to do 3 Halfs and a 10K within 90 days so I qualify to join Half Fanatics. (Google it)

The bottom line is that this program kicked it all off for me. That's why I'm still a team member and share my run experiences. I later advanced to the Jeff Galloway Training Plan which uses interval training (run/walk) to gain endurance and speed. No matter what, my primary goal is to finish!

Stay positive, train smart, and run well!

MRS_CIESIOLKA,

I go to the Start page and scroll down. Under the part where it says how many calories you have to burn, and how much weight you've lost there is a box that says Personalized Programs above it. In the box there's a link to my virtual races. If you click that it should take you to the Virtual Race Home. And your race should be there.

I just downloaded the pdf for the 5k I will be running nov 18th!!!! Day one of my workout starts tomorrow - I am soooo doing this! emoticon

Fyi - ran the race in 29:05 and won 1st in my age division! Love this plan because it is just challenging enough to keep pushing you but it is gradual and you see lots of small improvements with each workout!

We have a 5K for hospice coming up on September 23rd. My volunteer group has me and a few others signed up together for it.

Dance like nobody is watching... except Jesus... and his mother... You know what, just dance like you're with your best friends.

I've signed up for a trail run in August. I'm excited because I've never done a trail run before!
