I'm Vicki. I'm a 40 year old, married, SAHM of two. I am not much of a cook and my family prefers something simple when it comes to meals cooked at home. I probably use my crock-pot more than any other appliance I own, LOL!

I'm hoping that I'll pick up some good habits here on the Cooking for Fast Lives team since I don't have much of an imagination when trying to come up with tasty meal ideas on my own.

I look forward to getting to know everyone! Hope you've had a blessed day.

Hello there! I've been on (& off) SP several times but I want it to stick this time! emoticon I'm many things...a single mom of 3 wonderful young men, 20, 15, & 12. I work full time, drive 26 miles one way to work each day, working on my degree parttime/three quarter time, and well do way to many things and never accomplish anything.

This seems like a great team and since I have an on going romance with my 3 crockpots I thought I'd jump in and say Hi! emoticon

I am a 36 year old mother of 3 children ages 7, 2 and 2 months. I've been a member of sp since June of 2008 but after having my baby this time around, I'm recommitting to my program. I have to lose the rest of the baby weight and reach my goal weight.

I am single, work, and am pretty sure that to be successful in my new diet goals I will need to have healthy food available and ready to eat when I want it. This will require planning ahead and I'm hoping this team can help me out with ideas, etc.

Hi everyone! I'm new to the group and also to SparkPeople. I'm a single and spend a lot of time working and building my career. When I leave work, I often go out to eat with my boyfriend or cook for us at home. I'm open to learning new and healthy recipes. I'm not sure how making friends works on this site, so if you are interested in mutual motivation, come find me!

Hi everyone, I'm Jenn. I have one husband, two kids (6 yo daughter and 4 yo son), four cats, one dog, and two jobs ;-).

I desperately want to learn to cook well-rounded, healthy meals. Right now, I usually whip up something fast for the kids and try to include a healthy side. I spend their dinner time doing household stuff, and then I'm left scouring the fridge and cupboards when my husband gets home at 8:00. Or I wait for him to cook something and we don't eat until 9:00 or later. Bad, bad, bad, I know.

Planning and cooking ahead are things I've never done. Since time is the major thing I'm lacking, I know I will have to plan and plan some more if I want to be successful. I'm hoping y'all can help!

Before I was a working mom, I had time to try to learn to cook, and I did cook healthy food. That was a long time ago. Now, I either eat "healthy" micromeals (like Lean Cuisine), my husband's fattening meals, or restaurant food. I have a picky 2 year old who gets very upset every time he SEES a veggie on his plate (I still put it there). I'm so out of practice with cooking that if I try to make a recipe that should be very easy it takes me forever. I don't have a crockpot.

Do any of you have a suggestion for a REALLY EASY dinner that doesn't require a crockpot?

Hi,
I am Jenni and I feel like my life is pretty crazy busy these days - but at least it is with good stuff! I work full time on a mentoring program for 4th & 5th graders, go to school full time online, and have a 12 year old daughter that is struggling with math (and middle school in general.) I have been pretty successful in dividing my time, but our diet has definitely suffered.
About 2 1/2 years ago my husband of almost 20 years left me and I lost about 15 lbs on the stress diet. Since that time I have become amazingly happy - and have put on that 15 lbs and another 15 for good measure. I am really sick of feeling fat. My boyfriend is a sweetheart and always tells me that I am beautiful, but I would like to find time to eat better (and exercise) so that I can see the person that I feel I am.
Whew - long winded. I look forward to learing from your experiences.
Oh btw - 12 year old daughter is a somewhat picky eater!

How do you get the cool progress bar?

Hi, I'm a wife, mom and chief cook and house manager. I work full time and have 3 kids, but just one at home yet, he's 6yrs old and a very finicky eater. I love my crock pots. I have 3 of them. I'm looking to learn more about cooking ahead and freezing meals.

I am new to this team. I have used a crockpot for many years.
Now I would like to quicken things up a bit by learning to use a pressure cooker. I inherited 2 of them from my mother-in-law when she passed away but haven't used them at all yet.
Are there any tips, suggestions, about using them or any good recipes I might try?

A good meal that I have found for 4-6 people (for you it can be dinner and reheat meals through the week) is an asian dish called 'Golden Curry'. It can be spicy or not spicy depending on your tastes.

here is a link: http://www.asianfoodgrocer.com/product/gol
den-curry-mild-3-5-oz

I usually serve it with lots of veggies and on a bed of rice. The prep time is a little time consuming (mostly just chopping the veggies and meat), but the cook time is relatively quick. This also is able to provide a healthy option and could get your kids involved in helping cook (good skill to have)

Hope this is helpful!

Trmpt here, I am a mid 20's full time employee of the corporate world. I live with my girlfriend and we both work full time and also are involved in the community theater. We find it hard to cook time consuming meals and usually end up resorting to certain quick meals. I want to expand this and am looking for any good ideas. Slowcooker is a good alternative but bbq and london broil are currently being overused.

Hello, everyone! I just recently found this site and I must say that I LOVE it!! I did Weight Watchers about 6 years ago and lost about 50 pounds. Since then, I've had another child and have been able to keep most of the weight off, but I'm not quite where I want to be. I'm now a single mom (3 sons) and a full-time student - which makes it hard for me to focus on my health.
I really think this site will help me keep my goals (it has everything I loved about W.W. but it's FREE!!) and I think if I could find a sparkbuddy, it would help even more.
Here's to a great 2010 & improving our lives!! I hope to get to know you all better. =)

Hello all,

I originally joined back in 2007, but wasn't successful. I fell out of touch and now I am paying for the problem. I have been divorced for the past 5 years. The year I separated, I found out I have CHF and I sunk into depression. I have been battling with depression for about 5 years and I do struggle with low self esteem. I have even found that I have turned myself to a recluse. I think its safe to say that my divorce was a big effect on me.

However, I am trying to turn my life around and re-build my self esteem and self worth. I need to lose 55 pounds to stay healthy and I am finding that its not as easy at all when you are doing it all alone. I am willing to take it day by day and I am looking to make new friends and give and receive motivation and support. I hope to hear from you all soon!

Hi, I joined some time ago but just never got into it, now I'm ready to try again. I am in your position Linda the health issues I am facing sound identical. I need knee surgery so I am no longer as active as I want to be, I am overweight but my insulin and pills pack on the pounds as if I was eating ice cream and chocolate daily. My edema hs reached the point I now need pressure socks, and so on and on. I have found that even with not wanting to cook I can make a nice meal in my slow cooker and freeze a potion for later in the week or have leftovers for lunch. I have even stuffed a whole chicken and for guests with roasted potatoes a salad and a veg, it was great. My goals are always evolving and Spark has certainly helped me over the past months. I look forward to the new recipes and encouragement, meeting all of you.

What is the beef tips in gravy? Sounds yummy. I like to make meetball stew. I take 2 2lb packages of meatballs (I get mine from Aldi's) and a package of frozen veggies and about 3-4 cups of gravy. Throw in the crockpot on low all day and serve over rice or noodles. My kids love this. Give it a try. I am going to try the beef tips.

Hey y'all. I have been a member for quite a while now but I have been very inconsistent with it. I need to update my profile. I don't even recall where I was last time I logged in. That is bad but goes to show just how busy I am and how much I need this group. I live in West TN with my DH and two sons. We have two dogs. I work P/T as an Office Manager and my kids are both very much into sports. We are finally winding down from baseball, football, softball (me) and flag football. Basketball and Baseball start back up in January. I rely heavily on fast food but have recently vowed to change that. I have made two dinners this week and I am very proud of that accomplishment. I am using eMealz.com to help me out. I love the menus and the recipes are so easy. I get the low fat any store plan. Check it out. I attached the link...
Last night: Enchilada Pie. The kids LOVED it!! Tonight: Beef Tips in Gravy - 3, count them 3 ingredients!! It was real good. Done in the crock pot as a plus!! Anyway, getting long winded. I look forward to the weekly discussions. Take care and God Bless! www.e-mealz.com/amember/go.php?r=714

Hi everyone. I too have a busy life. I use the crockpot a lot of the time and am looking for some new healthy recipes. If I don't use the crockpot, then I try to get everything ready a head of time and hope that my husband or daughter will get dinner started. I work out right after work, my son goes to work 1-2 hours after school and sometimes my husband works a double, so the crock pot is a life saver. I also like to plan my breadfast and dinner menus ahead of time so that I can have my shopping list ready to go. This has taken me a few months to get into a routine.

We are active as a family. We bike, hike together. Today my husband and I are heading out to hike and see the beauftiful MO fall colors. Dd has a school function and son has to work. It will still be nice though. Then off to do the weekly shopping.

Hope to hear from everyone. Have a great day.

Hello. My name is Lorna and I am married to a wonderful man. We have been married 9 years and together for almost 21 years. He is a great support buddy for me, but it is hard to him to understand my weight frustration since he does not have a weight issue (he's only gained one pant size in 21 years). We both have busy lives, but would love to have healthy meals ready to eat or heat. I hope to gain alot from this team. emoticon

Hi, new here! I have two daughters, 7 & 3. As the younger one gets older and starts activities, the pace of our life is increasing! I am always looking for healthy cooking that can be done quickly. I am pretty good about meal planning ahead of time, but I am looking for some inspiration and new ideas. I would very much like to solidify good eating habits as a way of life so that my children will always have a good sense of health and nutrition.

Hey guys,

I am Tessa and new to SparkPeople, though I meant to join ages ago!!! I am a single mother of a beautiful 4 year old, a full time college student, and I work 2 part time jobs. Whew! Somehow though all that running around doesn't seem to constitute a workout to my body! LOL

I started my weightloss regime around Christmas last year - I weighed 215lbs. at that point and couldn't believe it!! I wanted to make sure that my weightloss was legit so I made a goal to get my weight down as far as possible without ANY excercise - the end result being to change my eating habits and make it stick.

Well, so far so good, as I now weigh around 175. Not bad I think - 40lbs lost on simply changing my eating habits. I think that will help me out in the long term and I feel I now have a good foundation.

I decided it's time to add in the healthy workout routine now since I have been platued at this weight for about 2 months. So ... here I am! Looking for nonsensical workout routines that can last my life - not fads or gymrats etc that will only last so long.

My current goal? To get down to 150 by some point in January. Let's see if it's possible eh?

:)

Tessa

Hello! My name is Carole and I'm a mom to a 4 year old picky eater. My husband is a full time student and I work full time so little time for cooking. Quick healthy recipes are a plus or ones that cook all day that are also healthy.

Hi. I joined this team a couple of weeks ago, but have been so busy, I never got around to introducing myself. Today I am playing catch-up

My name is Linda, I am 56 live alone with my cat and have a number of health issues, like HBP, high cholesterol, diabetes and starting to see some complications develop.

I hate cooking and over the years got comfortable opening cans. That is no longer an option as I have developed severe edema and need to cut back on sodium. While looking for lower sodium sites and recipes, I came across the Spark site, took a couple of weeks, but finally signed up in March.

I love spark and have joined a number of teams, spend a lot of time on line, looking at recipes, reading the articles, blogs, and conversations, etc. but it is now time to get serious and really start working the program.

I hope this team will help me with that goal.
Cheers.

Linda

Hi Everyone! I've been a member on this site for a while now but have just recently come back to try again. I live with my mom and it is important to make meals that are healthy for the two of us. Due to working, sometimes it is hard for me so I figured using my crockpot would be the best option. I hope to get some new ideas on this team.

Anxious to hear from all of you.

Thanks!

Hello. I'm new to this forum. This looked like a forum I could really sink my teeth into, so to speak. emoticon

"Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it's yours. -- Ayn Rand

Hi everyone. I just join SP Monday, 8/17. I have several challenges with cooking: planning, preparing, what to cook, and how to cook. It is just my husband and I and he does all of the cooking. I need to learn how to plan and prepare breakfast and lunches for myself. I prefer a natural diet, no deli meats, frozen meals, artifical sweetners, no sodas. I also need to follow a low sodium diet.

Hello Everyone,
My name is Sally and I'm from Northwest Indiana. I been on and off this site for over a year and really want to make this wieght journey work. I work 40hrs a week and my mom lives with my husband and I. She cooks what she can during the week but I'm tired of the same old thing day after day.
I have a slow cooker that I want to start using in order to make healthy meals. I am going thru health issues so I need to make a change. I'm glad I'm on the site again hoping I can lose the wieght I need to lose.

I am 39 and 306 (6lb loss so far). Emotional eating and family genes have gotten me to this point.
I love cooking in the slow cooker and figured this would be a good team to join. Look forward to doing a lot of healthy cooking with all of you.

Glad I found this site. I'm not much of a cook and my family seems to eat the same things over and over. I'm hoping to get some different ideas that are simple to make and that my kids will eat (is that even possible? emoticon )

I'm lazy. I want to cook once and save the leftovers for another day. There is just the two of us. Looking forward to reading the recipes and tips. Hopefully later I can contribute a recipe.

I confess. I hate cooking. I am hoping that I can learn something from this group and get a bit of motivation as well so that I will cook more and thus have a more healthy diet!
I'm from GA, teach high school and am a carb addict that needs to cut down on carbs. Oh what fun! HEELLLPPPPP!

Hi, I'm Amber from Texas, and I LOVE using a slow-cooker during the summer months so that you don't heat up the whole house! (That, and grilling, of course!)

I'm 26, and I joined back in January, but just started really using the site this month (July). I'm really excited to find some new and exciting slow-cooker recipes! Thanks for a great group!
