Hi Everybody, I am Basma, and this Challenge is just what I needed. I was usually using my next holiday date to motivate myself into daily exercise. This time it will be YOU. Let's do it!

New Year's Day is a time for new beginnings and sometimes we have to go back to OLD beginnings to do so. I've let things slide over the holidays with the very serious intent of getting back in stride (literally and figuratively) next week when my man goes back to work but what the heck, why NOT start today. Baby steps towards my previous intensity. So.... I've rejoined the ten minute exercise streak challenge to get me kick-started. emoticon Happy New Year, Everyone!

Hi Team, I just joined SP yesterday. I need to get back to maintenance mode, and the #1 thing I have to do is get back into an exercise routine. That's always been the hardest part for me, so I'm here to get motivated and get on track. Thanks!

I know it sounds corny but a new year hopefully will bring a new me. I originally started on SP back in March and did ok but then let life start spinning out of my control. I managed to come back every once in a while but couldn't get consistent.

My family gave me the SP Cookbook in October as requested for my B-day and then in November we bought a treadmill - DH has aspirations to run the Chicago Marathon after running several half marathons.

I once weighed 135 but have no expectation of seeing that # anytime soon and that's okay. Right now I am aiming to lose 50 by mid-May for a start. There is more to lose but I do not want overwhelm myself with a seemingly impossible task. Small goals and baby steps will get me there.

Soli Deo Gloria!!

Happy New Year! My name is Christine - 34 years old, mother of 4 and a dog! :) Wife and stepmom of 2. My passions are writing and reading (which means a lot of sitting and sometimes staying up too late), and I enjoy listening to and discovering new indie music and films.

I have a full-time physical job in which I burn a lot of calories - which also meant that I felt hungry and needed a lot of energy to keep up, so I was overeating a LOT. Now that I'm aware of it, I'm here on SP to find new healthy recipes that won't leave me feeling starved and will provide me with the nutrients and energy that I need. I'm not looking to be "thin", just healthy and physically fit ... I have a lot of "reasons" listed above, who need me to keep up with them!

Life is a 'WE' program ... it's not meant to be done alone.

Thank you for your support and friendship!

Hello,
My name is Cheri.
Negatives:
I have no motivation to exercise.
I don't like to exercise.
I don't like to be outside.
Positives:
I like to keep busy.
I like to cook.
I like to be creative.
Obstacles:
I have a highly stressful and physical job.
I am care taker for several family members, which is demanding and stressful.. i.e. 5 trips to the ER in the last 3 days... none of us live in the same home!

I know I have a serious weight problem and my own health issues.. I eat fairly healthy, but the scale just doesn't budge.. I know it is because of lack of exercise..

Becca, motivation and time seem to be the Top Two Obstacles that we all have a tendency to have problems with. This time you will beat that Motivation Monster.

Pretend like you are a stranger and you have walked into your family room. You see yourself as a child who needs encouragement to overcome a health issue. What would you say and do to help that child?

You would get them up and involve them in an active game or dance. Some thing they liked to do. Right? In a place where they felt free from ridicule. Right?

Do that for yourSelf today. You are that child.

Do something fun that makes the blood flow. Some days I just tell myself that I must keep my arms and legs moving for 10 minutes. I set the kitchen timer where I can hear it, but not see it. Like a small child, I hop and skip and twirl and clap and march.

Hey everybody!

I'm Rebecca. I've tried every weight loss program you can think of. I've never been a skinny girl. I lose motivation. So I'd welcome any personal messages to check up on me. One of my goals is to journal daily. One motivation that is different this time is that my husband and I want to start a family. An issue with this, my doctor blames my anovulation to my weight gain. It's been over a year since my last cycle. I'm hoping that weight loss will jump start my system and solve the problem so I don't have to go to specialists and fertility clinics.

Hi, I can relate to BIGGERMOMMA43. I have been using this site for a few years now and have gotten away from it. It's about time I got back to losing weight and getting physically in shape. I also am starting at a higher weight than when I first started. I retired a year ago and I find it harder in some ways to follow through on some kind of everyday exercise program. Two years ago I tried one of these challenges and it helped keep me accountable. I need that accountability again. I am starting small and hope to build up as I go. There is always something to learn on this site. emoticon

Actually - for me - my injury was caused by 2 things - NOT warming up (thereby exercising strenously on cold muscles) - and "working through the pain" (BAD, Very bad!) As to what type? Dumbells (the apparatus, not me - although in this I definitely qualified!) - or 3 pound weights - lifting straight over my head and then down to my shoulder, otherwise known as the
headcruncher".

My first clue was - PAIN - definite pain. My second clue occurred when I tried to "work through the pain - tears. My third clue was the following day. Oh My! This was definitely not smart on my part.

Nowadays I DEFINITELY warm up.

Hello everyone,
I have been on and off the site for a few years also.
and I am back once again.got to keep on trying, Right?
I am pushing 50, Have 6 kids ages 30-10, 4 grand kids 9-3 and a grand on the way.
After 30 years of chasing kids. They are getting away from me. I'm still fairly active,
I walk the kids to and from school most days. and I coach my grand daughters soccer team.
Lots of fun, but the artheritis in my knees is getting worst as my weight and age go up. Couldn't we find a way for the age to go down? No? O.K. well I guess I have to lose some weight then. So I am going to start with small bites. 10 minutes of cardio each day. and 8 strength exercises each day. rotating between upper body one day, then core, then lower.
Sunday off.

IF YOU DON'T CHANGE TODAY... ALL YOUR TOMARROWS WILL BE JUST LIKE YOUR YESTERDAYS.

I was reading about the injuries reported recently. Those were serious injuries, mine were minor.

Like so many here, I have jumped on and off the exercise wagon. During the past few years...

I bought an exercise band. It flew off my foot, slammed into my mouth, and split my lip open.

I started tai chi and twisted my knee.

I used some dumb bells and hurt the ligament near my elbow.

I switched to walking and was bit by a dog.

Yoga was my first back injury.

Who knew exercise could be so dangerous? emoticon

Seriously. You guys who come back after the bad injuries or pain are doing great. Maybe Coach Nicole can recommend an article about how to do the various exercise types without getting hurt. We all know to stretch and not drop the dumb bell on our toes; but there seems to be more to it. How to transition from one movement to another without stressing the body parts.

Hello,
My name is Lisa. I just joined SP yesterday. I have been up and down with my weight for a while. Everytime I get on track, something happens,,, 4 1/2 years ago while training for a triathalon, I woke up with acute vertigo. I tried to work out over the next couple of years and the veritgo came back. Finally determined it was a bad disk in my neck, had it replaced 2 years ago. Started taking martial arts and working out. In may while doing a flying side kick, I tore my ACL. Had to have it replaced in July I just finished physical therapay last month. Since then, I haven't done a thing. I am hoping to get cleared for martial arts next month, but I am trying to get back into some type of shape before that happens.

I'm Helen and joined this team about a year ago - just long enough to gain my first week/s challenge - then suffered an arm/shoulder injury.

Following an EX-doctor's advice - I didn't use the arm at all. I knew something was wrong when after several weeks of not using the arm at all, I could no longer raise my arm - and was still having a LOT of pain. Subsequent visit to the ER - and we thought it was a rotor-cuff injury. No - but was acute bursitis. I have lost some mobility in my arm - and have been in physical therapy for almost 6-8 months. I can now raise my arm over my head but still have problems reaching upward behind my back and rotating my arm back - but I'm still working on it. I also am recieving physical therapy on my back as well since I do have arthritis that both contributed to the arm problem as well as lower back pain resulting in inflamed sciatic nerve difficulties.

Regardless, I'm stubborn - and WILL regain as much useage as possible - and am now re-joining the team and working on the first week all over again.

Hello, everyone! I have been on and off of Spark for about a year and after losing a co-worker/friend on Christmas, I decided to get serious and 10 minutes is about all the spare time I have between work, school and my family. I'm kind of like the tortise in the story the Tortise and the Hare. Slow and easy...

Hi all
I'm new to Sparks and I love this challenge. I can do 10 minutes a day not 20 or 30 but, 10 is very doable. This is my first day doing the challenge and I know I'll need motivation after a few days. Baby steps are my speed.
One day at a time. One meal at a time. One 10 minute walk at a time. I can do this. I am worth it.

I am a working mom of 4 with 2 jobs at the moment, so I joined the challenge for a little extra motivation to make exercising a priority. It's been really difficult with a new baby to find the time to work out but I figured that 10 minutes a day would be doable and a good starting point.

Good day. I am joining you in this Challenge because about 6 months ago I switched from feeling slightly over weight to feeling flabby. I am 63 years young and I want to keep doing all the things I love with ease and grace, not grunts and groans.

Hello! I have actually started this challenge before, a few months ago now; and made it to week 3 (somewhat shakily after week 2 admittedly) before caving completely. Epic fail. But now I'm back and more determined than ever. I always tell myself I'll do atleast 10 mins of exercise a day but don't often keep to it, instead I go a few days doing nothing then go mental on the fifth haha out of guilt. So I'm starting small, 10 a day (hopefully more once I get going), then building it up gradually until I can do an hour and a half every other day, an hour on the in between days - but have a chilled Sunday in there, maybe just go walking or something. That is the master plan anyways, we'll see how things unfold. I'm looking forward to a fresh challenge, and I find the 'set' challenge helpful to keep me motivated to actually do the 10 mins a day. So here we go... :)

Hi everyone, I'm Fawn, # 44,300 on 10 min challenge. I am putting my best effort on continuing to get fit. I am feeling fabulous inside that I am dedicating the time to myself. It was hard to do that most of my adult life raising family. My marriage of 23 yrs. ended this year which is a positive thing. When my sister was visiting me, she said some things that I didnt want to acknowledge but thought deep about them. I chose my mother's 65 birthday to join a gym. So now I am reinventing myself by focusing on a healthy lifestyle which includes portion control and exercise and keeping active throughout the day. The most time that I spend sitting in one place is when I am using Spark.

I am blogging everyday that I go to the gym to keep a self help journal so one day I can look back. But for today, I am looking forward. Looking forward to exercise, looking forward to fitting in the pajama jeans that I accidently bought in the wrong size. And then realize its not the wrong size, its the size I will get into by Spring, hopefully.
I really love Sparkpeople. Since, I started, I have controlled my portions, reached my fitness weekly, drank the water. I joined this team, to add an extra 10 minutes of exercise daily. It is a challenge to take 10 minutes doing something good for myself.

Major challeges now is actually meeting the calorie requirements on Spark and getting more fruits and vegatables in daily. I haven't lost weight yet, and I think its because of starvation mode. I am struggling to eat something every 3 hours. My tastebuds have done a 360. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate a sparkmail or a comment on my page or blog.

All my thanks and praise is to The One Almighty who created every thing in the heavens and the Earth and all in between.
Also, I would like to thank Sparkpeople for providing us the necessary tools to achieve our goals. and I thank everyone's stories and pages I read that are uplifting and sometimes I get to uplift others. And my one Sparkbuddy Dawn, who has been a phenominal friend, oh and thank you for reading this message. Can we do it? Yes, we can!!!

I am getting my life back in order after my recent divorce (after 13 years of marriage).

I'm looking to set small, manageable goals that are attainable.

I plan to make my 10 minutes of exercise to include my children in someway. Today we walked briskly around the mall four times and "window shopped" before we hit the shopping list.

I hope to be inspired by other posts left by the many spark people that are pros at this.

I am getting organized and started back on my weight loss journey! emoticon

I am trying to post on boards and make some friends. HINT HINT.... emoticon

I have slowly put on the weight over the past 7 years. Seven years prior exercise use to be a big part of my life. I don't know what happened to me getting out of the habit. Well- I do know some of it. My husband deployed to Iraq 3 times. I lost my 14 year old daughter 5 years ago when she got hit by a gravel truck while running for the cross country team for her high school. SO- dealing with grief and my husbands deployments have been stressful. I think now- I feel ready to be stronger...I really want to . emoticon

There is a lot in my life I am still grateful for. A daughter that's getting ready to go to college. My husband who retired from the military. Life is good and i want to be "healthy and happy in my next 40 years"!

I tried spark people 2 years ago and didn't use the community support. I figure, I will give it a try.

I also want to train up for a 5k. I went to train for a half marathon.com....they have a good program for 5k training...I got an athletic watch with timer and I am using it for interval timing. It's been cold here in Texas so I have been delaying on the exercise and the holidays...I got lots of excuses....

One good thing is I am starting to keep track of my meals again. One thing at a time!

TO avoid eating in front of the TV and computer I filled a fancy glass pitcher with ice water and thin orange slices in the water. I am drinking out of a wine glass...makes it feel special. I also thought I could have a nice tea pot and a nice tea cup for the cold days too...AND stay out of the kitchen- except for meal times!

I also have a problem with my cholesterol that I have been battling over the past 2 years...I have had pretty good success with additional fiber in my diet, Dr. Oz smoothies (they are sooooo goooood)....and taking 2 fish oil pills a day...my main problem has been my eating. If I can get food in check along with the exercise- I think I might have my cholesterol down. High cholesterol does run in the family...and my family are not overweight. (Just me).. So I might have to break down and take medication.
emoticon

Hello everyone. My name is Sandra and I live in beautiful Canada. I have joined this challenge because I definitely need to recommitt myself to my journey towards health and fitness. I am going to keep this simple. My goal is to exercise for 10 mins a day. No excuses. There is no reason I can't do this, right? And I hope I will start to develop a routine of activity in my life and some health benefits to boot.

Hello, I'm Juanita. With two jobs my workout habits completely drifted away, so I'm here to get back on track. 10 minutes out of 24 hours is do-able, so I'm going to incorporate that into my life and make it just as important as sleeping.

Stay Focused!

Mary Kay from Chicago. I'm here to get back into the habit of starting my day with exercise by adding 10 minutes a day in the morning.

Great Idea...posting signs!! I kind of fell off the wagon while our internet was down a couple days. So I am going to post signs to get going again. emoticon

Yes! Back on my feet again. No more exercising like the baby crawling for the goal line. Start walkin baby!

Slowly but surely, moving in a better direction!

Hi! I was active about two years ago. I stopped exercising and just couldn't get started again. So I actually joined this team last Thursday morning. My Thursday at lunch I was sent home from work because I was sick and so was my daughter. By Friday, I was hospitalized with strep throat!?!?! I am finally on the mend and going to do my first ten minutes of exercise today!!
