Hi all my name's Christina and it's great reading your intros...am a bit late with this but it doesn't matter. After a shaky start then two weeks of on track and starting to feel good followed by a couple of weeks of self sabotage I'm now getting back on track and aiming for feeling energised and alive again! emoticon emoticon

Thank you for replying!!! I just don't want to waste money on something that I probably wouldn't use. I too need something right in front of me. I'm going to do some shopping tomorrow and get the Spark. Thanks again.

I've just recently finished reading The Spark. I agree that it's very much like the website, only better, b/c it explains everything more in depth. Plus, I like having the paper book right infront of me to read (the old fashioned way)....much easier to pick up whenever there's a free moment. Make sure to go to the bonus book section, with its chapter guides and spark points to earn for each chapter you read:)

I have been reading the book when I get a chance. It is motivational and very much like this website. Nice to have it all in one place that I can drag with me wherever I travel. I am not doing the 28 day version, just sticking to the Sparkpeople site and enjoying this phase.

Hi. I see purchased the Spark book. Has this helped you? I love the SP website. There is so much information and help. I was wondering about the book -- I need something to read on my lunch hour. I'm not able to log into SP from work. When it cools down here I'll walk on part of my lunch hour. Today it was 110. It zaps be but good even though I'm inside.

Hi: It took me a month to discover how to post to this site. Too busy learning the rest of the site. I am doing well with all of the helpful articles and really love this venue. Hopefully, I will now be more active on with this group.

Hey everyone:) I'm Linsey from Michigan. I joined SP during the class week (had to go back to my fitness progress report so I could find which week I joined...LOL). I'm wishing I'd found this team sooner for it's challenges. But, anyway, glad to be here:) I've got a total of 37 pounds to lose, and have lost 7 so far. SP has been better for me than anything else I've tried. I love all that this site has to offer!

Hey Everyone! I am so excited to find this forum! I started on the 25th of May, but actually signed up a month earlier so I was in a different group. So happy to find people that started the same time I did! This is one of the best programs I have found as far as exercise...Only working out three days a week with a little cardio on Tuesday and Thursday, if I feel like it, is an awesome motivator and I am happy to say I think this actually may work! I live in Tampa, Wife to my wonderful hubby and mother to an awesome 2 1/2 year old boy. I used to be an easy 120/130 before I had my son and have had a problem getting over the fact that my body has changed...so here I am! I have 23 lbs to lose...I'm going for a healthy 130 :) Can't wait to get aquainted with you all! Its going to be an interesting ride! :)

Hello hello! I'm Melanie from San Antonio (one of the fattest cities in America). I'm hoping to finally bust out of that stereotype and embark in a new me. I'm a high school English teacher, previously a politico working on various campaigns and in legislative offices. I may have found my calling in teaching, we shall see :-)

I have actually been a member of SP since August 2009 but something happened to my account, oh well.

Good luck everyone!

Hi all, I'm Monika and I live in Illinois, near St Louis. My job had a 'Biggest Loser' challenge, so I'm giving weight loss and healthy living another try. I am making a pledge to one and all, and mostly to myself, to log into SparksPeople every day to keep myself on track. Luck to one and all on your road to healthy living and wish me luck back. Best wishes to one and all,
Monika

heya! My name is Selena and I was auto-joined with this team when I started sparkpeople. I like the automatic inclusion, that's really neat :)

I've lost and regained more times than I'd really care to remember, last year I started on my *absolutely-final-this-is-THE-last-time-I-
will-have-to-do-this* weight loss adventure. In that year I discovered I have issues digesting gluten, I successfully trained for and finished a half marathon, I got injured (plantar fasciitis) and have been learning how not to let that stop me from reaching my goals. I re-gained a little, 9 lbs, but stopped that in it's tracks for a net loss of 20 lbs last year. I've been maintaining in a sort of 5 lb range from 210-215 since. last month I realized I'd...sort of wound down/burned out so restarted a youtube journal...and then started here for a little back up for that. I needed a change I guess. like they say, if all we ever do is all we've ever done, then all we'll ever get is all we've ever got.

So (before joining sparkpeople) I've been using another online calorie tracker myfooddiary.com, but I'd been on it since 2005 and become so familiar with it I...wasn't working it, so it wasn't working. I'll probably keep using it because of the friendships I've developed there (that and the set up of the food journal is better for the small-meals-every-few-hours goal that works wonders for me when I do it) so far each of these sites has a lot going for it...so I'll just have to do both :)

HI all my name is Becky I prefer to go by Lissy. I live in Colorado. I have tried so many times to loose weight sometimes successful for a while but would always slip back to my old habits and ways. Being a single mother of four boys it was sometimes easier to just hit drive throughs or make fat meals. Last weekend I was ill and spent the day on the couch and watched a channel that had lots of reruns of the biggest looser. Jullian and Bob, worked and worked to get these ppl to want this for themselves to focus on their own health. It was a wake up call for me as I am always doing for others. So now its my time to change my lifestyle ways to healthy ones. Its going to take a while I have a long ways to go but am positive with sparks I can do this.
I look forward to getting to know and support all of you.
hugs Lissy

Hi, I'm Zoe and I'm from the Sonoran Desert where it is already hot and dry (close to 100 today) for the summer. I tried SP before and did very well, but somehow I lost my way so I am starting over again. I look forward to fighting this battle together with my new "class" as we help each other along. I figure starting on a Friday is not the greatest idea, but it's a new lifestyle, not a diet.

Hello! My name is Rachel and I am from Idaho. I have been overweight since about the age of 12. It was at that time that I was put on anti-depressants that had a side affect of weight gain. Since then I've had many other health problems and numerous medications with the side affect of weight gain. Needless to say 3 weeks ago I weighed 358 pounds. I have already lost 8 pounds and am determined that I will lose another 200. I don't know how long it will take me to get there but I am determined to work at it until I get there no matter what it takes. I have also joined TOPS which is a support group for weight loss. I like having people supporting me on this major decision that I have made in my life. If I can be of support to others that is something that would make me happy.

Good morning Newbies! Everyone has such positive attitudes! That's great! Keep it up and don't get discouraged! Changing your lifestyle is difficult and it takes time and patience. Remember there is no such thing as a quick fix, but if you are consistent with your program you will see results. You will become the you that you've always wanted to be. There will be good days and bad days, but no matter how badly you think your day was, NEVER give up. One bad day will not ruin all the positive changes you are making. Stick with it! We're with you and we know that you can do it!! emoticon

Hi! I actually found SparkPeople on Wednesday after my visit with my Doctor, who told me I had to change my lifestyle or I wouldn't be here for my grandchildren. I am 52 and have battled a weight problem since having my children in the 80's. My youngest just graduated from College, so I need to spend all my energy on getting myself healthy. I have gained and lost the same 40 pounds for the last 5 years. I love that I can log what eat and I am trying to figure out the exercise logs, I swim laps and try to go to the gym 3 times a week. Thanks for the welcome to board I look forward to the support on my journey.

Hi everyone! I am Vee 33yo, wife to one, mom to 2, who is out of the house from 5am to 4pm for work. I am exhausted when I get home but I need to lose weight so I feel better. Too many stressors in my life right now and I want to "fix" them by eating. So, instead I will try to use them to my advantage and get the ball rolling!

I, too, believe that if I can just "get into" the community it will be easier to lose weight. Being a loner by nature makes this hard for me. Good luck to everyone!

Hi everyone, I'm Danielle, from PA, I began this LONG and FUN weightloss journey 1/1/08 at 332 lbs, lost 128 pounds in 2008, continued to lose in early 2009 and got down to 194. My new-found confidence led me back to school to pursue a nursing degree I had started years ago. The new schedule of working parttime, school fulltime, volunteer work, four children (3 at home still - 17, 11 & 7) made me forget how important exercise is!!

After a year of that schedule, I'm now up to 248 again and very unhappy with that!! Soooo... here I am, on 'summer break', ready to rediscover the joy of exercise and taking care of ME, so I can continue my efforts with a good conscience! I want to be able to be a good example of health, for my family and my future patients!

Good HEALTH to everyone!

Hi everyone! I am really excited! I am pretty sure my last weight loss attempt have failed d/t lack of support - so I am here to dish it out and soak it up! I realized recently that I am getting old ;)(my little sister informed me of this she is 16 - I will only be 28 in July) and that I need to make some life style changes to stay as healthy as possible so that I can live out my "golden years" as I have planned in my head.

Hi everyone! Today is my first day. I've tried to lose weight many times but have gained it all back. I've realized it takes a lifestyle change instead of just a diet, so that's why I'm here. I hope to become everyone's friend and support each other through our transformations.

Hi everyone. I've used SP in the past, and I lost an amazing 50lbs! I felt great and looked better than I did since high school. But then life happened and I gained almost half of it back over this past year. I join SP under a new username because the site had changed so much since then. Now I can learn all the new features. This site really works! Have a great day!

Hi Team, I'm Rebecca from Oklahoma. I'm a happily married mom of 3 school-age kids who has been overweight since I was about 14 years old. Mostly it was gradual till my dad died then it sped up and after my pregnancies it just stayed. I made the decision to take charge of my own life when I turned 30 and went back to college. I'm halfway through with school and it's time to finally lose this excess baggage I've been carrying around. I have a friend who is my weight loss buddy and we are both just getting started this week. I can't wait to meet more friends who will help to form my support team. Here's to a great ride!!

Hi everyone! I've never done anything like this before so I'm hoping this will help. I've always felt bad starting a community diet plan because I don't have nearly as much to loose as some people and I'm afraid to waste everyone's time. But I am not happy with my life right now and I really need your help. I'm turning 20 in three days and am super-dee-dooper excited! I want to spend my twenties being healthy and looking good and really loving myself. Here's to hoping!

Stef- I think can help you out

Go to your start page, where it says "Welcome, (your name)"

Just below that, Click on "Account/E mail preferences"

Under the heading "My Information", is a section where they ask your gender...See it?

Now just un-check the box right below that says "Use the metric system"

...And I think that should fix it!

Hi all! I have an awful lot of weight to lose too - but not quite as much as my weight ticker says LOL. How do I change that thing from kilograms to pounds?

Hello, team! I'm a 41 year old home-maker from Portland, Oregon. I didn't start out obese, but if you gain 10 pounds a year for twenty years, along with a couple pregnancies, yo-yo dieting and a LOT of discouragement, this is what state you end up in.

I have lost a lot. I lost the ability to ride amusement park rides. I lost being able to shop anywhere and look good. And the list goes on...

Time to find those things again (and more). The only thing I plan on losing from here on out is the weight and being defeated!

Welcome everyone! I just wanted to extend a warm greeting to everyone who has joined so far and who are about to join! You have started a wonderful journey and this is an excellent resource. However, the only person who can get you to your goals is you. That being said, a great support group is a wonderful boost to help get you going! Feel free to add me as a friend and ask any questions you like. I will be happy to share what knowledge I have, limited at it may be. Welcome to Sparks!

Hi! I'm 23 from Baltimore and I really am trying to lose weight and be healthy. It's really hard for me to stay motivated. When I diet I start out great and then in a week, I just can't do it anymore. I lose interest, or I feel like I don't see progress, etc. So I'm actually kind of scared that I won't follow through with SparkPeople...I'm going to need a lot of support! emoticon

Thank you for the welcome, I am hoping that this time I can reach my goals. It just seems between my work schedule and by the time I get home at night, I hurt so bad that I don't want to do anything.

I am 50 and I want to be around to enjoy my future grandchildren, I also want to be healthy to be able to hike and do things that I have only dreamed of doing.

Next year I want to go to a zip line park and experience it, but at a healthy weight.

Hi my name is charlene and I am 21 years old turning 22 in June. I have tried many times to lose weight without much success. Now I have just finished my exams so I have no excuses that I can't do it. What really bothers me is that sometimes I just can't say no to temptations posted by my bf when we go out or to nibble in front of the tv, because during the day I just forget about food!
