Sounds to me as if there's been a misunderstanding... emoticon

The focus of the team is as it says on the main Team Page: "Just as we can get healthy 10 minutes at a time, let's concentrate on our writing, 10 minutes at a time. Professional writers, casual writers all are welcome!"

The key phrase there is "ALL are welcome." Whether you're a professional writer, a casual writer, an amateur - whether you write nonfiction, fiction, poetry... none of that is a requirement for joining this team.

This team concept is simply making use of small bits of time to write. You can be freelance, you can be a staff writer, you can sell articles to magazines, you can be working on The Great American Novel - but with the tips and support and ideas you can get from members of the team, you may find new ways to develop your writing.

You may be taking classes (I do!) - you may belong to a paid subscription site. You may be a published writer, or someone who writes privately in a personal journal. The key word, the one important word, is WRITE.

emoticon

P.S. And thanx for posting a link to the site, STEPJOY!

Sharon, this team is for anyone who wants to commune with other writers of varying experiences; some write for pay, some for experience and feedback.

Please do not believe you are unwelcome.

I was confused about the site you posted, that's all.

We have had a member join, quit, join, quit... who enjoyed writing for sites where she only got paid for the number of "Likes" she got on her posts. When it was suggested that she could possibly earn much more by submitting similar articles to actual magazines, she quit, re-joined, and so it went. That was her writing choice.

It sounds as though you are at a stage in your writing career where you need feedback, and that is okay, we all have been there or are there. Whatever the rest of us may do to help you, please let us know.

I don't get paid. I pay instead to write privately and get feedback based on the words I type, such as feelings and mindset. Over time, I see patterns that I might otherwise miss. It's inspired by Julia Cameron's morning pages.

I think I misunderstood the purpose of the team because I don't intend to get paid to write. I simply liked the idea of casually writing whatever's on my mind in small bits of time each day. I apologize for the confusion I caused.

Hello! I write daily at the 750 Words website. It takes me between 15 and 20 minutes to get to 750 words, which I can easily fit into my flexible schedule. I might write longer sometimes, but I'm more focused on maintaining the daily habit.

I used to volunteer to clean erasers when I was in grade school but then became too "cool" to be seen doing that in high school. emoticon

We agree that too many people demean writers' work, either thinking themselves on such a higher level, such as the group's instructor, or because they know little about the business of writing and editing and are the sort of people who talk a lot about writing but always make excuses for why they have no time to actually write anything.

Keep up the good effort and let us know when you are ready to submit it.

If they get in trouble the first detention is 30 minutes at lunch. If they skip that they will have a 2 or 3 hour detention after school. If that is skipped they have 3 days with me. Of course some of the "crimes" don't earn detention and they come straight here for 3-5 days.

Hello - and glad you are looking to get back into writing! It's a real shame when people are more discouraging than encouraging, IMHO. But for the people to have remembered your story and to ask about it long after goes to show you must have made a good impression.

What is ISS?

Hello.

I had started a story several years ago and quit. Actually I got discouraged when I went to a local writing group. We all shared one or two chapters and one lady put everybody's work down... badly. She was the only one in the group to have ever had anything published so I listened to her instead of taking everything she said with a grain of salt. I also never went back to that group. Fast forward and I ran into a couple who were there. They remembered me and wanted to know what had happened in my story because they really enjoyed it. So here I am trying to start it back up.

I am now the ISS teacher at our high school. After I do what little paperwork I have and make sure my students have work, I'm free read, write or surf the web.

Hello, my name is Latisha and I have been a faithful Spark Member since January 2015. I just joined this team because I have decided that I want to pursue some type of writing career and I love to write in a journal. I honestly feel that my true passion is encouraging others using WORDS. Now, that I understand this and have placed these WORDS here, I now must research some ways to get started and hopefully launch a writing career that will not only change my life, but also change the lives of others around me.

In order to reach my destiny, I must place one foot in front of the other and surround myself with like minded individuals. I love to encourage others so look forward to seeing positive posts from me. Any suggestions and/or encouragement to help me get stated is greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance. Talk to you soon!

A basic of writing is: a writer writes and makes no excuses about having no time to do so.

Writing need not require long blocks of time, thus the name of this group ~~ The 10-Minute Writers.

We all do what we must do. Few people started at the top. We grind and grind, try many things, fail at some, succeed at some, find some we do not enjoy, and in others discover our passions which we pursue with joy and zeal.

But we never, ever give up trying to find that diamond we KNOW is buried in our minds that will lead us to the success we want.

Different topics work well for different people. That is what makes life interesting. We need to temper ourselves so we do not overpower others with our expertise in any given field, though.

How bored would all of you soon become if I wrote and talked about the intricacies of bowling on all of my posts and blogs. Wouldn't take long, I assure you, unless you were a bowling fanatic as I am. emoticon emoticon

But we stay positive, ask for advice, try to keep the negatives to ourselves as much as we can, let others know of our successes, and encourage everyone.

What we never, ever do is stop writing.

WE ARE WRITERS. WE WRITE! emoticon

I am re-introducing myself, yet, again. Due to personal reasons, I have quit the team twice. However, I guess I sort-of missed all of you, yet, again. This time I think you are keepers!

I am a freelancer for various websites...ranging from girly stuff to working at home to dieting to church to advice. Then, as side hustles, I work as part of a discussion community then do surveys and am working my way up to a paying position with a book review site. As a paying hobby, I make crafts.

Following, I found out from accounting that the money I had set aside for Christmas has to be used for other circumstances. Merry Christmas. So, as you can imagine, I am doing as best as can with freelancing to make Christmas money. Being poor usually comes with the territory of freelancing.

Finally, I am happy to return though. Be good and write on!

emoticon Comebackkid,

I, too, was rewarded with an excellent grade on a short story (an A-) I still have from little kid's school about a cloud and how it helped bring rain to a farmer's field for his crops.

My writing continued through businesses I worked for via reports and market comparison analyses and eventually into magazine and newspaper articles, co-authoring a twice awarded book for adult reading students, editing books and more for authors and publishers, and my own writing.

Isn't it interesting how our passion gets ignited? emoticon

Hi Everyone! emoticon
So, I first got into wrting when I was in gradeschool emoticon My teacher gave us this sentence and she wanted us to write about this person named Joey. Well Joey was a ghost in my story and My story was chosen as the top few stories she shared to the class. Felt so good about my writing back then as i do now.
I started doing some blogging on the now defunct Calorie Count website.
I blogged here and won an award for the most popular blog, once with quite a few comments and responses. I think I've hit upon something here. emoticon
But I also write in my online journal too!
So glad I'm here! emoticon emoticon

Hello team! I am re-joining you! I guess we were thinking of each other? emoticon

In the past, I have attempted different writing teams and reading teams. Just today, I removed myself from the team Readers & Writers Getting Healthy. I wanted the team to be active so bad as I do both reading and writing jobs. However, I was only posting to myself.

Thank you for being a super team!

Hello there! I'm delighted to see how many writers there are involved with SP! :D

This 10-min-a-day thing seems like just the ticket to get some actual completion happening on my creative projects. I've actually been doing something similar with 15-min. increments. Helped me finish a rough draft of a comic script I've had languishing on my hard drive for several years (!!).

I would love to create a habit of FINISHING my writing, whether it's a novel or a fanfic or a blog post. And since I'm also hoping to improve my physical health along the way, this seems like a good team to follow.

Best writerly thoughts to you all! Let's do this thing!!

Thanks.

I've named most of the colony cats ~~ Grey Kitty (let's me pick her up and cuddle), Oreo (black and white), Swirly I and II (because they are grey with black swirls on their sides), Little Blackie, Big Blackie, Big Grey, Kitty Baby I and II, and a few others.

And a raccoon that feeds there at my house, and three possums. A regular wildlife sanctuary and I live in the city suburbs! emoticon

Hi Julie emoticon ~~

If you were here, you could help me with the colony of cats I care for. emoticon I, too, love our dog and cat friends. Sadly, I had to say goodbye to my last two dogs in March 11 days apart when they both had their rear legs and hips give out and couldn't stand or walk. Different breeds, different ages, different sizes, but the same problem. Curious how that happened.

Last year I adopted four cats ~~ Little Kitty, Black Kitty, Kitty Kitty, and Momma ~~ from the colony. Three of them play hide and seek with one hiding on the edge of the tub behind the shower curtain thinking it can't be seen, but it can. emoticon

Most of my published articles have appeared in business newspapers, a sports magazine, and lifestyle and real estate magazines. Underway now is a murder mystery, several articles, three children's interactive, rhyming, picture books emoticon . I also edit books for authors and publishers. The three editing projects I'm working on are about sorcerers and genies, a personal journal type book, and a story about a family's adoption gone wrong then gone good.

Be well. Keep writing and posting.

Thanks !! I spent most of Aug driving to OK and back (actually riding, brother did the driving).
Been home for a week, but not rested up yet. Getting older is not fun.

Hi, welcome to the team!

LOVE the genealogy connection - I think my favorite hobby is genealogy, with writing a close second. How neat that you combined the two!

Really terrific inspiration to parley the genealogy into a book. I hope you'll share when you're done, or at least post us links where we can find it. :-)

Hello everyone !! I am glad I saw this group on
a friend's page.

I am a published writer in the local newspaper.
I wrote a column for 9 months about genealogy
research how-tos. I used to write poetry, but not
for awhile.

This year will be my first NaNoWriMo. I have at
least one book I want to write, a fiction novel based
on my great great grandmothers' travelsl to settle Kansas.

I am also thinking about writing a cozy mystery ?series.

Happy to meet another writer. Just as SparkPeople promotes exercising in as little as 10 minute blocks, so do we advocate writing in 10 minute segments (or longer) and to realize we don't need to try to find large periods of free time to write, just 10 minute bursts.

Please keep us updated on your works in progress as you stream toward your goal of finishing a book by year's end. emoticon

Hi I just joined. I guess I first started writing in the third grade. I wrote about two friends one was red and one was blue. I drew crayon pictures to go with it. My writing style has (I hope!!) improved somewhat. My blog is http://welcometomyworld.me/ if anyone wants to view it.

We welcome you, too, and look forward to learning from you.

Love your Poe quote. I've started rereading his stories and poems for maybe the third time. Never get bored with them. In school, how many of us had to memorize his poem "The Raven" -"Once upon a midnight dreary as I pondered weak and weary...?

I am a team leader of Merry FITmas where our philosophy is simply getting in 10 minutes of activity. I know the principle of 10 minutes but still need a kick in the butt every once in a while. emoticon

Remember, neither our exercise nor our writing need to have huge blocks of time set aside to do them. SparkPeople touts that 10 minutes of exercise several times every day will help us become fit.

Set your writing time the same, 10 minutes at a time. Whatever you write, get into the habit of writing for a short 10 minutes.

Whether for fitness or for producing words, 10 minutes is time we all can put in, can't we?

Hello! I am needing this team to give me a big kick in the butt! You make so much sense. I try to get my writing done and then it's like where did the time go? I need to get my activity in and tell myself I will then I will then I will then it is time for bed. I do lots of chores on top of it all which I consider activity but I would love to get a good hour or two straight of cardio!

I write for a religious newspaper as a contributing editor and am a writer for a website.

Nice to meet you!

Hi all, I'm new to the group and new to SparkPeople. I'm a full-time technical writer for a San Francisco startup company, but I work out of my home in Michigan. I am also a novelist and cookbook author. Not yet published but working on it. :)

Hi, I think writing is a solitary pursuit. Spark gives me an opportunity to pace myself, take a stroll so I won't break my streak, or with a cup of coffee leisurely browse the site, looking for health tips and sharing some Spark cheer. emoticon

I remember Bethesda - one of my aunts lived there for some years. Bethesda, Rockville, Silver Spring... now it's probably all six- and eight-lane highways, but at that time, there were still plenty of houses and lawns. Though I daresay you might not remember much of it, being young 'n' all, lol...

My writing ability showed itself when I was in grade school. I still have a copy of a three-page hand-written short story about a little cloud that helped a farmer get rain for his crops. Writing has, fortunately, come easily to me through newspaper and magazine articles, newsletters, training manuals, employee orientation materials, and so much more. emoticon

Currently, I am writing a series of interactive, rhyming, picture books for children, a serial killer mystery novel (21,000 words so far), and have several articles ready to submit to various magazines.

I was born in Maryland, lived across the country and in Scotland as the Navy reassigned my father from base to base.

Music, sports, reading, yardwork, caring for two stray dogs emoticon emoticon , a very elderly terrier mix (Little Girl) and a shepherd mix (Thumper) and two cats emoticon emoticon recently adopted from a feral colony (Little Kitty and Black Kitty), and trying to help moderate three SP teams effectively take up a lot of my time.

What else? I live in Orlando, FL but hold out hope that one day I'll have a mountain cabin and a beach cottage. Just need a winning lottery ticket for that though. emoticon

This thread is a new one for team mates to introduce themselves. You can do the personal-info thing (age, likes / dislikes, where you grew up) or just talk about why you're on Spark, why you joined the Writers team, what and why you write - whatever the spirit moves you to do.

Since some people have been on the team quite a while, and since trolling through the threads can be tedious and nonproductive (lol), maybe it would be helpful if newbies AND oldies do an introduction.

Whether you're new to Writers or not-so-new, how about letting us learn a little more about YOU?
