"It's just as hard to explain that adults don't "grow out" of ADHD too... especially if it went un-diagnosed/untreated until adulthood!"

How true that is!!! I wasn't diagnosed until my mid-60s and it's been a real struggle trying to learn how my particular version of ADD shows up & how to deal with all of it!

It's my belief that AD/HD is becoming more recognized and that more people understand at least a little. It's thought that 10% of the population is AD/HD & personally I think that figure is too low. So hopefully things won't be as hard for your son as they would have 20 or even 10 years ago.

btw, there is currently a series of talks on how to cope with AD/HD being given as a telesummit. They set up a replay for each talk so you don't have to actually tune in when it's being given. The link is succeedwithadhdtelesummit.com Lots of good stuff -- I hope you can get a chance to catch t least a few of the talks.

Thanks :) I had looked into CHADD a bit ago but it didn't have anything local to where I was. Now that we've moved to a new station I'll have to look again- thanks for the reminder! I also never checked out their FB page! Doh! :)

The biggest struggle for me has been trying to "prove" to people that my son is a good kid who TRIES to listen....he TRIES to not be impulsive... but he's 6.5 and has ADHD (also recently diagnosed with anxiety and SPD), so sitting still and listening well...not easy! His second kindergarten teacher (after the move) was AMAZING- hoping next year goes well.

Hi Amber & emoticon to Sp. I'm glad you found this team -- we share a lot of what's going on with us & it's always been helpful for me. It's so nice to be able to share things with other people who also struggle with AD/HD -- nice to know someone "gets it."

AD/HD does run in families, doesn't it? My daughter is AD/HD & so is her son. My son's daughter is also AD/HD although undiagnosed & her parents are desperately denying it. Which is too bad but I realize I can't change that.

And in case you don't know, CHADD is an excellent resource. It has a Facebook page & also a website & shares a lot of resources. There may also be a local chapter where you are, which is a great way to meet other folks and learn more about the condition.

Keep on posting & sharing with us! We are all here for each other.

Hi all!

Nice to see a group based on ADHD adults! Myself and my oldest son both have ADHD, and my fiance is borderline OCD so it's always a challenge! We also have a one year old boy :)

I have been off Spark for awhile (life got crazy with a PCS move and kiddo starting kindergarten and so on, plus dealing with the diagnosis process for my son) but ready to get back to it.

Anyways... hello all!
Amber
