I'm here to keep motivated. Just started this today but started yesterday with my better eating habits and exercising. A gal from work told me about this site. I'm glad she did! I have 40 pounds that need to go!

Hi my name is Linda and am pretty new to exercise in general.....it has been many years. I have lost 39 lbs since July 2009...It has taken forever to lose this much, but now I am unmotivated to get to the gym or workout at home..so the weight will come back if I don't get restarted soon and I know this but it hasn't gotten me back into the swing of things. I got bored with my music? I don't know but I was great thru winter now that it is spring, I would rather sleep..uurrgh. Thanks for listening to me whine...

Hi folks,
Came by SP and your team by chance.
I had just started a couch to 5K program. On it for a week now.
Have not ran in 25+ years. My wife has lost a bunch of weight and has done a half marathon.
Can't let her beat me :-}
I am 50 and 350. I worry about my joints- but fine so far- am fairly healthy- just fat...
So, send me a note, and I will take a look at the posts here.
Rick

Hi there I'm a soon to be 45 yr old mother of one amazing 18 yr old. I have been married for almost 23 yrs. I have been on spark for a few months now & really enjoying it. I decided to join this group 'cause I have a major problem with exercise that requires timing, rhythm & balance I've always been the girl in the back of the aerobics class zigging when I should have been zagging. I currently walk & use the elliptical. I would like to start running , but I'm not quite there yet. I am looking forward being a part of the group emoticon

Hi Everyone! I'm a 49 year old mother of 4 living with dh and kids in upstate NY. I've done SP off and on for a couple of years. It really seems to help when I'm consistent about logging calories and minutes of workout. I guess I belong to this group because I use an elliptical (but I'm really hating it lately), I walk, and now I've even begun running with the Couch 2 5K program. I've never been a runner before, but I'm really desperate. I can't allow the weight to keep creeping on, and walking is just not taking the weight off. I hope to be posting here often.

Hey there, I am new to this site. i tried once before but it seemed way too overwhelming and I didn't bother but this time I am exploring further. I have lost 65lbs since September and am looking to lose 35 more. I was a member on the Biggest Loser site but didn't want to pay the fee anymore so I'm looking for this site to take its place. There is so many things on here though it is very complicated to figure it all out but I am trying. I have the bodybugg and do all of my meal tracking on their site so I am looking for more of a support group on this site. Anyone got any advice on how to use this site regularly?

I have set my goal to 60 mins on the elliptical a day for a total of 5 miles. I am on the road to my goal of losing 55 lbs with a weight lose of 12 lbs since the first of the year. I have found out the number thing that need to stay on track positive motivation!!! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the team.

I might be losing my mind cuz I can't remember if I introduced myself to this team or not. Therefore, I will do it now (or again). LOL
I am Pat and I have lost 99 pounds in the last 3 years. I have managed to keep most of it off but that would depend on how you look at it. I lost 90 pounds and started running, biking, swimming and lifting weights again. I gained 40 pounds back from the exercise...muscle weighs more than fat. I am down to a size 8 from a size 14 and my BMI has greatly improved. I had my body fat measured 8 months ago and it was 15%, so I guess I will not be able to loose a whole lot of weight. I will focus on toning up what I have and I will just deal with it! I love my new life and healthy life style. I am a teacher that is going to teach for 2 more years and then I plan on going to medical school to become a PA-C or possible a nurse practitioner.

Hi,
I joined Sparks a couple of months ago. I thought this might be a good group to join as I am one who uses both the treadmill and the elliptical machine. I have to say the elliptical machine is easier for me at this point. I am trying to run for half an hour on the treadmill, but it seems to take everything out of me, and I don't burn as many calories as I do when I am on the elliptical. I want to get better at running as spring is approaching I would like to start running outdoors.

Hey Everybody!

Just started up with Spark a couple of days ago but have been losing a little of myself (and hope to lose about 30-35 pound more soon) for a while now.

I want to be one of the active people who have energy to spare and that seems to mean getting out and running- or staying in on the treadmill- depending on the weather and allergy season.

Love the energy and attitude I read in this group and happy to count myself among you- Cheers ya'll- lets get and stay fit together!

Hi, my name is Angelia, I joined SP last week, but didn't really log on a whole lot. I was, however, trying to workout and eat healthier and I lost 3 pounds. Today I'm trying to figure this page out so I joined this 10,000 step challenge. I hunted up a Pedometer that I bought a few years ago (I was afraid I'd given it away, but I found it!!) and luckily the battery still works! I'm curious to see how active you have to be to get that many steps in. I have a treadmill that I've been using more lately, plus the weather is getting much nicer so I'll be able to walk outside more soon. I'd love to lose about 10 pounds before I go to the beach next month, I'm not sure if it will be swimsuit warm yet, but I'd almost have to buy new clothes since I've gained weight since last spring. I think 10 pounds should keep me from having to do that :) Good luck to everyone! I'm going to go get on the treadmill!

Hi everyone.. I am new to this group. I am trying to get into shape.. and be able to jog. I can do a "brisk" walk, but need to vamp it up a bit to burn more calories. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get to the point to be able to jog for a period of time.. I would love the advice. I downloaded a program for my ipod, but just can't stick with it. Thanks for any help you can offer. emoticon

Hi,everybody! Yes, another Newbie!

Today is my 1st day with SP , and I amazed at all this site has to offer! I'm quite familiar with different types of diets (but not sticking to them) and I now realize that I need a lifetime plan, not I short-term diet. And that regular exercize is just as important as eating healthily.
Show me the way, team mates!

Hi everyone!! I'm a newbie too!! I've just started working on trying to lose about 70 lbs and I also plan on redoing C25K. I'm a SAHM, so using the treadmill or exercise bike makes exercise a lot more attainable for me.

Have a wonderful day and Happy St. Patty's too!

Hi, my name is Tiffany. I was on here almost two yrs ago and then found out I was expecting my second child. he is now 14 months old and I need to lose the weight from carrying my two kids. I have an Elliptical and have been busting my butt on it almost everyday! I also have upped my water intake ( which was literally none at all) and have been trying to cook more healthy. I have accepted my body now b/c that's the only way to be happy enough to do something about it. But one thing I could never get rid of.... is my double chin!! I've had it since high school when I weighed 127 lbs?? HOW in the world do you get this thing to go away? anyone know some ideas, please stop by my page and let me know! Thanks bunches.

Hello, my name is Jason and I have been on SparkPeople for about 1 month now...everyday! I have been cooking healthy foods with my wife, working out & running 5-6 days a week and watching all my calories the entire month.

I run on the treadmill at my local fitness gym, but will start running outdoors as soon as the weather gets better here in Michigan.

I am signed up for my first 5K in less than two weeks and 3 more races throughout the year. My goal is to work up to a Full Marathon by 2012.

I am excited about joining this team and look forward to getting to know more of you.

Hi everyone. I've been on SP for almost a month now and am loving it.
I like outdoor running best, but if it's too hot here in FL then I use the treadmill. My gym has recently gotten the Cybex Arc trainer which I am in love with. It is so fun to use!

Hi, my name is Pat and I live in northern Indiana. I've been on & off the sparkpeople site for a couple of years but just came back and became seriously active in February (this year).

I lost my job in January and decided focusing on improving my health & wellness would be a good way to deal with the stress of finding another job & trying to keep my finances in order without my income.

I am 56 years old and have approximately 100 pounds to lose. I started 15 minutes of cardio per day on Feb. 5 (plus daily strength exercises) and did that for 2 weeks. The next 2 weeks I increased the cardio to 15 - 30 minutes per day doing mainly Sparkpeople videos and dance aerobics.

This week I started a 3 days on/1 day off treadmill routine and have done 60 minutes each day. I really surprised myself (being able to do 60 minutes continuously). I felt the beginning of a blister on one foot yesterday. Today I felt blisters on both feet but I did not stop. I am not sure I'll be able to do 60 minutes tomorrow or not but I will surely try.

Hi ! I'm Mary and I have a love/hate relationship with my elliptical! Mostly love these days. Right now I am up to 30 minutes a day working my way up to 60 eventually! Feeling so much better since I started using the elliptical!

You are right that was some introduction. I think we know a little bit about who you are. At the end of your intro you said something like "I guess I have to find inspiration in myself first". That's the key. Sometimes a me first attitude gets it. You are the only one living in your body. You may like pretzel time pretzel bits because something is lacking nutritionally in you. We'll talk later. Take care.

Hi! I am 32 years old and have been trying to lose weight for the last 5-6 years at least. I have been on Weight Watchers, and for a while that worked. I have been on other "diets", Atkins, Alli, etc. I tend to lose weight and put it on plus some. My highest weight was last year and was 255 pounds. My lowest that I can recall was around 175 pounds 3 or so years ago. I get extremely frustrated with myself that I didn't stick with the program I was on at that point. I have come to the conclusion that a certain "diet" is not going to work. It's a LIFESTYLE that I need to create for myself to really make this work. I have lost 43 pounds in the last few months and it is a wonderful feeling, but my motivation (and temptation to eat unhealthy foods) and lack of will to exercise is starting to cause the weight loss to minimize quite a bit. I am usually pretty good about the amount of food that I eat, but my choices in food lately have not been the greatest. I have a serious addiction, I'm not kidding, to Pretzel Time pretzel bites. I told myself I'd have them once a week, as a treat... and I have them instead of a meal so it's not like it's extra calories, but I find myself going 3-4 times a week to get them! Other than that I've been pretty good about what I eat, I think it's just the extra fat and salt in them that is bothering me. I also have had a hard time finding the motivation to work out lately. I have access to both a treadmill and a bike machine, that I need to get in the habit of using on a daily basis. My sister just had a baby in December and I was determined to work out every day so that when she's big enough to walk I will have the energy to run around and play tag, etc. I am frustrated that somewhere along the way I lost my motivation, because she truly is very important to me. I guess I need to find inspiration in myself first and then let it affect other parts of my life... maybe I was doing things backwards.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling. Just needed a place to vent... guess that's an introduction though right? :)

my family has an eliptical too, for quite while i found it annoying to use. although now that we have a treadmill again, I will use the eliptical for 10-15 minutes or between treadmill sessions because its less stress on knees and feet. we have a bike which too which i also use for a few minutes of break during my running
our eliptical and bike are within view of the tv so my mom will watch shows while exercising. personally im not too huge on watching tv when the goal of my work out is to improve speed or endurance, but if im watching tv i rather be moving than sitting...
so yea. I guess if I would try to throw out possible suggestions:
1)doing the elipitcal while focusing on something else like reading or tv
2)variation, i don't know if your eliptical has programs or different settings or if its just manual but if you just do the same thing all the time you can start to feel like a hamster in a wheel
3)have it as one of your cardio options as suppose to your only form of cardio? maybe do an aerobic video (i have dance cardio videos, those i fin really fun) or go walking/speed walking outside?
I dont know depends on what you want to do and what you like

I joined this team a long time ago, however, never really participated. I have a very nice elliptical machine but I'm not motivated to use it. Any advice?

Hello
I love using my own two feet to get the conditioning which results in that runners buns that is my best asset (pun intended). Loved cross country in high school and decided a couple of years ago to train for half marathons. Working on getting the whole exercise, diet and attitude regimen in sync again. Nice to meet you!
