Hi, I"m Annie, 66, in a wheelchair with a myriad of health issues, but the insulin resistance really bothers me. My dad just died at 93 with T2D and I don't want to go there for the time I have left. I'm doing a version of low carb/Trim Healthy Mama and logging everything. The doc has had me do a finger stick in the past with my food log, and maybe it's time I started again. Surgeries and holidays gave me a good excuse not to stay committed to myself.

Hi I am new to the team I am 51 yrs old, I have PCOS, hypertension and prediabetes. I've been a member of Sparkpeople since December 2011 on and off. Currently, I am seeing a nutritionist. The focus is on real foods. This means eating more protein and healthy fat, and unprocessed carbs. If you'd told me a year ago I would be eating this way and feeling better I wouldn't believe you. I'm hoping for support and looking forward to hearing other peoples' stories who may be similar.

Welcome to both LONGLIFE7 and PRECIOUSPEG!

I also have PCOS, and I agree the medical community is way behind on this syndrome and still giving people poor information about it when it is even diagnosed correctly. I was fortunate to have a family friend as my NP or mine might not have been caught, and now I do my best to keep up on the research and educate.

Reactive hypoglycemia is another under-diagnosed issue, but glad you know now and can help yourself!

I had Poly-cystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) before they even had the name for it. Wish the world knew more about this Syndrome it would help so many women avoid so many problems & make them feel better.
Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol and all the crap that come along for the ride. Haven't been taking care of myself at all. But trying to start... again. I too do better on a low carb diet. I will say I have lost about 40lbs this year. I hope to loose even more, I HATE the finger sticking. Not so much because it is uncomfortable but I do computer work and it just keeps my finger hurting. Therefore I don't check my blood as I should. My exercise of choice is walking, so I have started again, fits and starts that is to say. I can make a gillion excuses when it comes time to exercise.

Every day is a GIFT!

Hello, I am Susan. I am new to this team but have been on Spark People for a while. I have Type 2 Diabetes and continue to look for healthy foods and plans. Spark helps my accountability with tracking and a wealth of ways to move. I am my own worst enemy when it comes to eating healthy, but I am getting better.

Welcome! Where are you at in Colorado? I spent a few summers out in Rifle near Glenwood Springs doing research in 2008-2010

Hello I'm Amy, I found out about Sparkpeople from my Dietician and I am happy to be here. I need to lose 77 pounds for my health. I live in Colorado. I am a widowed mom with 2 adult sons and grandma to 4 cats. Three of them are my oldest sons cats LOL. My boys had to move back in because they can't afford to pay rent and they are getting good pay. We were leading the nation with high rent costs! I am working on getting my Mary Kay business started.

Hello I'm Melissa!

I'm 35, and I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) at 15 and the associated insulin resistance around 22. I've been on metformin (500mg/daily) since then.

I'm a biologist, I have my doctorate in aquatic ecology, and I teach community college biology and human biology in upstate NY.

I've been on and off low carb for the last 15 years. I always do better when I'm on it - but I really love french fries and ice cream, so I have trouble sticking with it!

I'm a runner. I run 2-3 half marathons a year and a number of other varied races (10Ks, 15K, 5Ks). I'm also a huge geeky scifi nerd and a singer.

I am Barb, I am 63 yrs. old. I was diagnosed w/Hashimotos thyroiditis in 1998. My weight began to balloon. Then in Nov. 2009, it was hypertension. The final straw was being diagnosed w/type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance.

Took me 16 mths. on Metformin, but once my blood sugar became normalized, I got off of that.

I maintain w/exercise and nutrition (I use a combination of no sugar/salt is used sparingly, low carb/high fat (good fats -- avocado, olive oil), and the mediterranean diet.

I keep a food journal, track and measure my food and always test my blood sugar.

All of these measures have restored me to health.

Love is the root of all things good in life.
