Pasta, I didn't realize the rolled ankles, poison oak, wasp sting, DNF and DL were all badges. I gained a lot of badges these last few month - LOL! ... along with a lot of terrific experiences and memories.

I just rolled an ankle what seemed pretty bad this weekend but it seems to bounce back pretty fast - this time.

ZORBS13, welcome to the trails. There are some terrific exercises to strengthen. Take care and have fun on the trails.

Suzie

New England hikes don't have that problem. I will keep it in mind when I hike in SC.

The shampoo doesn't keep anything off of you, it's not strong enough to soak into your skin. What it does is make everything want to leave you after it hitched a ride in the woods. My problem here isn't with fleas or ticks, it is stuff like noseeums, gnats, and any biting midges. You usually don't know you have them until you stop moving and settle in for the night. By that time, the damage is done. The shampoo makes them let go of you and then they just drown and rinse away.

I never thought of using a flea shampoo to keep the fleas off. I never had a problem with fleas in NH

I'm new to the trails myself this year. Mine isn't turning ankles because my running style helps prevent it. I fall/stumble forward A LOT. My knee is skinned up from dirt/leaves/mud which happened going head first after missing a tree root.

You can buy some elastic ankle sleeves from a dollar store to wear until things strengthen up and you get used to the terrain.

A big thing I learned from trail running. I bought some Oatmeal Flea and Tick shampoo for dogs. Use it after every trail run. Mild enough to use all the time, and stops those "What Is On Me" night time scratch fest.

See you in the woods, Konrad

You have my sympathy. But it's kind of a badge of honor among trail runners. It's hard to find one who hasn't turned an ankle. Heal quickly. More good stuff awaits. Just wait until you encounter ticks, mosquitos, thorns, poison ivy, snakes, hit your head on a branch, ...

I have been running for a long time, but always road. Only started running trails this spring and I hated it at first but determined to get to the point where I didn't hate it anymore. Attempted my first double digit trail race (14.4K) this past weekend, rolled my ankle and ended up with my first DNF.
