We all have to run at our own pace. Life is an amazing journey. Don't race through it. Our trip through life is more like a journey than a race because the one who finishes first is not necessarily the winner. The only way that we win at life is by helping others in their journey. While hiking in the White Mountains during July, 2010, a thru hiker names TLC (Tough Little Cookie) told me; “The trail teaches you that you cannot make the journey alone.” There’s no reason to rush through this life. We gain more ground by taking our time and learning from our successes, failures and from those around us. Don’t be afraid to take your time and help those around you.

I love running on the trails too and there are a few near me that I can do. Others are much more uphill and I just hike them because I'm also an avid hiker. But being out there instead of in town is so peaceful! I use walk/run intervals to help me with some of the uphill running and also dodging rocks, roots, ruts, etc. I just love being out there too!

That's a wonderful dream. And I know it can be reality. Take a look at the book by Mark Sisson "The Primal Blueprint" and the book by Gary Taubes "Why we are fat and what we can do about it" for the real reasons for obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and lack of energy to exercise. Exercise helps in part because it helps muscle strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health but also because it relieves stress which reduces inflammation which is the primary cause of many diseases. Trail running in a beautiful and peaceful environment is particularly good to help with stress relief. emoticon

It's raining out, and the trails in the woods will be wet. Not my favorite time to run, but I will make adjustments and be out there. I have a dream that my glucose levels will stay low, and I won't need to take medication for Type 2 Diabetes. I have a dream that my blood pressure numbers will stay low, and I can control HBP with little or no medication. I have a dream that my cholesterol levels will stay low one day without medication. I want to live a long healthy life. I want to see my grandkids grow up. I want to be a strong member of my family and my community.
Who cares about rain. I have a dream!

Welcome to the trails!

It's always fun and a learning curve when you get on a trail, a new trail, or have been away for awhile. Just enjoy like you are and speed, endurance, and agility will come.

The only trails we have are in the middle of town so the dogs always have to be on leash. I only have one distance dog and I cannot wait till it cools down so I can take her out again. The other dogs like to hike but not run so much.

Happy trail running!

I love to run with my dogs, too. During the winter we take a lot of weekend trips to the desert where I can run on the trails and the dogs can run without leashes. That is SO much fun. We'll go out for a couple of hours at a time. One dog stays pretty close to me all the time but the other one ventures off to explore.

Closer to home, we have to use the leashes. That's a challenge for me, since my boys are not as well trained yet, as I'd like them to be. The bigger dog gets over excited and pulls on the leash, at the beginning of the run. Later, as he tires a bit, he behaves better.

I just started running trails after almost a year of running. I like it so much better than road running and am hoping to learn a lot from more experienced trail runners.
Trail running is a lot more like hiking, esp. the more technical trails, and right now my trail run training is at least half walking (most of the uphill parts).
I'm more interested in being in a beautiful environment than in competition but sometimes I enter an event to have a goal to work towards. Right now I entered a half-marathon trail run that I probably won't be ready for but I'm having fun in the process of training for it.
I run in minimalist shoes and I love running with my family and with my dogs and my horse.
