Hello.
I just joined this group and saw your post. The others who responded are correct though. It is different for everyone. In time you will learn what you can and can not get away with. Even my mom (who has Crohn's) can not eat some of the things I can (Orange Juice?) LOL. and vice versa.
In time you will learn to cope with it. It is a difficult adjustment, but you are not alone.
As for what I eat during a flare up?... most of the time I put myself on Bowel Rest for 2-3 days, Only consuming liquids and jello. Then I start slow and build back up. There are things I can not eat. Then again there are things that I can normally have during remission that I can not handle during a flare up.
Sorry there is not a list per say. Well there is a suggested list your GI doc can give you, but even then it doesn't mean you will be able to tolerate all the foods on it.
Good LucK!!!

Crohn's is terrible and I'm sorry that you just found out. That feeling is still there for me, 18 years later.
As was written earlier, each one of us has different issues to different foods. For me, in the beginning, I eliminated all meats, and ate a lot of boiled potatoes and drank a lot of fresh carrot juice. It was fantastic.
Then over time I started adding more veggies, breads and pasta. Then... fish, chicken, turkey.
For me, red meat is bad.

Good luck.

I eat white rice, oatmeal, chicken noodle soup, or plain white bread. When you feel better, try having carbs before eating salads or a lot of veggies. I have to limit caffeine, and carbonated beverages. I also have a problem with water with ice cubes in it or if it is extremely cold. Bananas, applesauce, papaya are good. But garlic, onion, broccoli, and asparagus are bad. Trial and error works the best.

Thanks! Very helpful. I think I will grab some applesauce for lunch, hopefully will be able to tolerate that!

Hi, this is such a difficult question to answer. I know what's good for me, but the very same thing may make you sicker. Chicken soup is my friend, chicken with rice, or very soft cooked veggies, or even just the broth. My best advice is learn all you can about this disease and get to know your body. Keep a food diary and make note of what hurts you.(there's a way to keep notes on your food tracker here at SP). Start eliminating foods, then slowly add them back. I am one who tolerated carbs okay, so I ate a lot of pasta and rice, but I understand that is not the norm for most. It would be so nice if someone laid out a nice, easily understood diet for us. I feel bad for you, I remember that sensation of starving and not being able to eat a thing, or getting it down, then it coming out so quickly. So, I was constantly hungry. I hope some of the ladies who have dealt with this longer than I have will jump in and give you some good hints. Let me know if I can help you. If I don't know, I'll do my best to find out!

Hi all,

I was just diagnosed with Crohn's in the last week and looking for advice from other members who follow a low residue diet. I haven't been able to eat for the last week even though I am so hungry! What do others eat when they're having a flare?
