Hello everyone I'm an EMT-A in Canada Alberta (a EMT Intermediate) and a volunteer firefighter. As most people here are aware we do don't always get to eat healthy. Which over the last 5 years have added up so I'm here to make a change for the better.

Hi everyone! My name is Lesley. I am a 911 Calltaker/Dispatcher for a small municipal police service in Ontario, Canada. ( Part of my job is also regional 911.

I have been working here for nearly 9 years, although I had last year off as I gave birth to a beautiful son, Liam.

So the challenge now is juggling shift work, life with a one year old, maintaining a household and trying to find time to exercise... oh and maybe a little date night here and there with the hubby!

As an aside: emoticon Hi Caren! Where in ON are you?? Message me if you want to chat!

I hope you all have a Happy Easter Holiday even if you are working. I am doing a 12 hour shift after four hours sleep following my 8 hour shift, due to sick staff. My husband comes in to do the 16:00-00:00, so at least we will see each other in passing.

Hello Everyone,

I'm Bunny, 24, and recent college graduate. I am also a new member of the Owego Fire Department in Upstate New York. I've been active and going to trainings for about 7 months now, with a 3 month break for my final college semester. Being a better Volunteer Fire Woman is important to me and in my top 10 reasons why I am trying to drop this 35 pounds and strengthen up my muscles.

Hi Bonnie ... emoticon to the emergency workers team. It's nice to have you with us. As a 9-1-1 dispatcher whose area of responsibility includes a large rural area as well as the town I live in I thank you and all the other volunteers out there who work on the volunteer ambulance services and rural fire departments that serve our communities.

emoticon Good luck slimming down and getting healthy so you can move around better and continue to serve your community in Maryland. It's a lot of work to get there, but will certainly be worthwhile.

Hi! I'm Bonnie, I'm a volunteer EMT in Southern Maryland. I'm looking to shed a few lbs and get healthy, but mostly so I can move around freely and not be worried about my wt all the time. This past month I've lost and gained the same lb 4 or 5 times, I need to zero in and get moving.

Hi Mommy918 ... emoticon to the emergency workers team. Congratulations on surviving 16 years of dispatching ... I just celebrated my 13 year anniversary last month. This is actually my second career ... I spent 24 years in the air force and started dispatching when I retired. I'm looking forward to my second retirement in five years. Some days I love my job, other days I think I should have my head examined for doing what I do.

I don't do a lot of eating out of boredom, but I do eat out of stress. Not a good thing in our profession! Good luck meeting your goals.

Hey everyone from Mesa, AZ where I have been dispatching for the police department for going on 16 years ... uh .. I started when I was 12??? hahahaa ... I just started this a couple weeks ago and have been sorely slacking because of working 12 hour days and not having time to do anything! Right now I'm concentrating on just eating better .. haven't dropped any weight but I have lost inches! I guess that's what counts the most!

Hi,
I am a volunteer firefighter/EMT in PA. I started doing this at the age of 18 and haven't been able to shake it since. I need to lose a few pounds to take my firefighter 2 test. Its more difficult than the first test and that killed me. Also, getting around in the back of a crowded amb. is hard with extra baggage.

Hi Fit ... emoticon to the emergency workers team. Good luck slimming down for the academy. Sorry, but I can't help you with any specific tips. I'm a dispatcher and I didn't have to pass a fitness test to get hired, just a hearing and speech test. I'm sure if you ask someone who has been to the academy recently they will be happy to tell you what physical requirements they have and you can work on their program before you start at the academy.

Hi! I am not a emergency worker YET...I hope to get into a police or sheriff academy next year. I am married to a US Marine and he's been deployed every year for the past 5 years so my career is currently on hold until he is home long enough for me to be in an academy. I need to lose about 30 lbs to be a slender person again. But my personal goal is 45 lbs. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do so that I can breeze thru the physical part of the academy. I know work out and run a lot but I would like specifics if possible. Thanks!!!

P.S. I love the slogan ... I plan to share it with my fellow dispatchers.

Terriejo, the knee is great I love it best think I have done for myself in years. Drugs fix everyhting, I was on good ones for about 2 months and then I just did not need any more. Probably the worst part was the rehab. TH "No Pain No gain" is very true. Check out my blog on the firefighter nation web page under lodd and injured. I have a running commentary of what I went through. Don

Hi Don ... emoticon to the Emergency Workers team! Good to have you with us. I checked out your spark page, and after seeing the pictures of your knee replacement surgery I'm thinking I don't want any part of that! I broke my knee in '95 in a motorcycle accident ... I was in the 18th hour of a 20 hour motorcycle safety course at the time ... never even got on the road. I still ride, but I'm strictly a back seater; I leave the driving to Hubby and feel much safer that way.

Good luck in meeting all your goals. You'll find a lot of help doing so here at SparkPeople. If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Glad I found a couple of places in sparks where firefighters can help each other lose weight and get fit. I was horrible for several years but I just had total knee replacement and what a difference that has made. Check out my page I have a pic or two of where I work and what I do.

Hi everyone! I am a volunteer EMT-I in South Texas. I've been successfully following the SparkPeople way of life since January 2008, and have lost 23 pounds so far. I stumbled on this team today. Wish I had known it was here all along. This is one group of people who have a history of supporting each other!

Welcome Kaidra. We're a mix of emergency workers here, so your lack of field experience won't make any difference. I'm a dispatcher and all of my ride alongs have been with the police dept or sheriff's patrol. You couldn't pay me enough to ride along with an ambulance crew or fire rescue. I'm too squeamish for that sort of thing. That's why I dispatch ... I don't have to see or smell the things the EMT and firefighters have to deal with. Good luck with that baby fat.

Hey all, I am Kaida, and I am not EMS...Yet...

I start school this fall to get my EMT certification. I do come from a long line of New York (Both City and State) Firefighters though, and I am a self admitted adrenaline junkie.

My goal on sparkpeople is to lose this excess baby weight and get in shape before I finish the EMT courses.

I hope that I am not too out of place here because I do not have that in field experience yet, but I hope that I can contribute and learn.

Thanks!

Kaida

Hello. I am a 911 dispatcher for Howard Co Sheriff Dept in Indiana. I have worked here over a year now and love it. I work midnights, so I have struggled to adapt my life around that schedule. I have four children ages 15-5, and a wonderful husband who is also an officer. I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi, I also work for the county. I work in the local emergency management office and am a volunteer fire fighter/first responder (thinking about taking the EMT class but haven't decided yet). I'm also on the sar and hazmat decon teams so I stay pretty busy with training and classes, but I think I enjoy it most when I'm out training!

Thank all of you for all that you do to help your communities!

Hi! I work for a small county agency. I work e911/sheriff dispatch/corrections. I've been here about a year and a half. I didn't think it was something I'd be able to do, but I'm loving it. The best is when we get to train and/or practice PPCT!! Fun!! (really, I had a ball working on take downs and etc.!)

Everyone....I would like to say welcome.

As you all know...EMS keeps you VERY busy and VERY tired. I will try to get challenges and other things going but I also will be working FT and doing a lot of overtime. If any of you would like to be administrator as well please let me know and we can make it happen. Maybe w/ two we can make this really kick off!!

Please keep up the good work and lets do this for ourselves and our communities!!

Use this site as your best friend until you are confident in doing it by yourself. I have found that I need to be on here at least twice a day if not more otherwise I screw up!! But I am back at it now....

Hi! My name is Millie. I am a paramedic in the grand (currently cold and snowy!) state of Indiana. I just found this site (saw it on "Ellen"), and thought I would check it out. Looks like a great support tool! Looking forward to losing some weight...LOL...Thanks for letting me be a part of this community!

Hi all. My name is Mary Ann. I have been a part time 911/Police dispatcher in IL (Metro St. Louis) for more than 5 years now. I am also married to a police officer so I am familiar with both sides of emergency situations. I look forward to sharing workout strategies and stories with you all.

Hi, I'm Jeni, I am a RN, and for the last five years I worked in the busiest trauma center in the state of Ohio, we saw over 90,000 patients per year. I'm not exaggerating. I left in July after finally giving in to the burnout that had been chasing me for the past six months.

Now, I am in school full time completing my BSN, and missing the ER...my dad was a firefighter/EMT (now retired). I think I inherited the emergency gene. This job is in my blood.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you :)

Hi Mary,

My name is Kathleen. I do not work in this field however I have been involved in several emergencies in my lifetime. :)

O.K. Let's be honest, I am your mother and I also need to lose weight. I appreciate you inviting me to your team but confess, I won't be able to contribute much in regard to the EMS banter but I still could use the support that being a member of the team will provide. I hope I can be of some support to you too. Does this mean no more buttered pop-corn when I come to your house for a visit?

Just to start off...

My name is Mary, I am a Calltaker/Dispatcher for Rural Metro Medical Service in Syracuse NY. I have been doing that for about 2 years. I am also an EMT.

I am creating this team because we all could use an x-tra push and also can use a place to come and vent about anything we might have seen or heard. Also, Anyone in the Emergency atmosphere knows how our schedules work...long shifts, unhealthy lifestyles etc...

Please introduce yourself here and feel free to discuss anything you need to discuss.
