Zumba is pretty high energy and depending on the class, it might irritate those injuries. You are on your feet the entire time. It's basically just a dance-fitness class that keeps the heart rate up the entire time (usually one hour). It's about keeping the body moving, so you might be able to do your own modifications of the dance moves. In the classes I usually go to there are people with pretty bad arthritis in their knees, older people with weight to lose, young people with weight to lose, and just people who like to dance and want to burn calories doing it. I would say try one class and go from there. Obviously, talk to your doctor about it. Good luck! :)

Welcome. It sounds as if you are doing great things to keep yourself healthy. I've never tried Zumba. Because of a bad leg break (both bones in lower leg near ankle in 2 places), I have arthritis in my ankle and advised by MD not to do any weight bearing carido. Would Zumba work or not?

Lost 65 lbs and maintained since 2006.

Hi INEFFABLESQUIRL : )

Whenever I have a health/fitness discussion, I always tell people about Spark as well. This is a great site, whether you're looking to maintain or lose weight. Congrats on your goals : )

I had been apart of this site before, but my goals were set to "maintain" and so I never got many results because my diet was still much higher in calories. At the time, of course, I wasn't too interested in losing weight. Now I have a new account for "losing" even though I don't wish to lose much. I mainly want to lose some body fat, tone up and strengthen my muscles, and just have better cardiovascular health. For exercise, I enjoy Zumba (my favorite), yoga, running, swimming, elliptical, free weights, gym machines, and simple workouts that can be done using only my body weight. Also, I've changed my diet to include more healthful things. Overall, this site is probably one of the best I've seen and used. I love the food and fitness tracking! I tell everyone I know who wants to get healthier to visit and start an account. :)
