I suggest Atkins or Protein Power as you are diabetic. Protein Power has a super easy 30 day plan to try out.

Hi Everyone!
I am fairly new to Sparkpeople and jumping on the Low Carb wagon for the last time I hope.
I have Type 2 Diabetes and HB. Both of these things run in my family and besides getting healthy, I'd like to teach my daughter the right way to eat while she is young so that she will be able to avoid these health issues I hope.
I am hoping to gain some great info thru this group.
So far I like what I've read.

Hi to our new members. As a type 2 diabetic I stay at 20 net carbs a day to keep off meds. My A1C is 5.1, and I have lost a good amount of weight. As Morticia said I'd love to be zable to eat 100 net carbs, or even 50. But I can't the blood glucose control I waant with more than 20. But each of us is different, and you all may be able to have more. You will have to experiment.
Hugs,
WW

Welcome, Linda!! It sounds like you have done very well. At some point the weight loss slows for all of us and we have to tweak our plan. For older women like me, past menopause, it becomes a constant battle. My first advice it to track all your food and make it public so others can help. As you are diabetic I recommend that you keep your carbs in the lower range - Atkins and Protein Power are ideal but if you can't do those than no more than 100 net carbs a day and that is pushing it. 100 is easy to do and still have a good diet. There are people in this group who would love to have that much. LOL. I have arthritis too so it will limit your exercise but not eliminate it unless you are in a wheelchair and then you can do upper body and core exercises. Walking or swimming are ideal exercise for ambulatory people with arthritis. Losing weight and walking will actually help your arthritis. You don't have to do it in long episodes. You can gradually increase your steps like I did. Get a pedometer and aim for 10,000 a day.

Hi my name is Linda, I used to be a bad carb. Addict, when you put cold spaghetti on a sandwich, you got a problem. I always feel better when I cut the bread way down. I used to weigh over 300 pounds, half way to my goal now with exercise and a moderate diet, but needing help, arthritis and diabetes are kicking my behind. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi, Leslie!! Most of us were addicted to carbs as well and have broken the addiction. You can too. We are here to help.

Hi, I am new to this team and am so glad I found it! I need a lot of help with the carbs. That seems to be my biggest downfall and I am diabetic also which makes it even worse. I may be looking for a miracle, but you never know until you try! Nice to "meet' you all and be a part of this group! Leslie emoticon

I avoin yeast as much as possible. Had fifteen years off it and never ate any. Once in a while now i eat bread, like once a week. I know I am treading on eggshells. I am sure it will comne back.

It gave me a myriad of problems but that was the best most healthy time of my life and the lowest weight.

I often take Nyastatin and I am doing better, I did blog my food diaries about the experiance.
You are right itnworks but it is not easy.
I gace myself allergy shots supplied by my allergist and i am sure i did get desensirised to many things. I am doing well and have lost almost 15 pounds now using spark. I am determined to keep at it till i reach my 50 lb loss goal, Pat in Maine.

I have always wanted to do an allergy to foods test. Some day I will. Since you have the tools, avoid one food at a time. I can imagine how puzzling it must be to try to stay away from everything at once. sounds like you are ready. That is the emoticon step. Welcome.

Welcome Mommalama!!

You've done it before so you can definitely do it again. A ton of people here talk about finding a happy place with your carbs--I think that is important too. Try to have a long term view & don't forget to measure, measure, measure!!! What are the diets & exercise habits of the people around you?

Hi everyone! I'm new to the group, and am looking forward to sharing my experiences and learning from everyone.

A little backstory on me ... I've struggled with my weight my entire adulthood. Once I had my first kid eleven years ago I have hovered around 200 pounds. About a year and a half ago I had my food sensitivities tested and found I was reactive to around 30 of the 100 foods tested against. I did my best to completely remove those things from my diet, but it was really difficult. My main issues are with Wheat, Dairy, and Baker's & Brewer's Yeasts.

I stuck with a Gluten Free / Casein Free diet for almost 2 months cheat free and *somehow* lost a steady stream of weight. I went from 180 to 161 in a matter of about 4 months. Then I fell off the proverbial wagon. Since June of last year I have gone from 161 to my weight now of 210. Oh my gosh!!!!

I'm completely miserable. My 5'2" frame aches. :( I struggle with depression and chronic yeast infections. My watch & wedding ring need to be resized. I've had to buy new clothes. UGH!!!

Anyway, here's the point ... I know what works. I don't want to get on a "diet" that I know will be hard to follow. I want to make a lifestyle change.

Thanks for following along with my long life story ... can't wait to jump in and be an active part of this group.

Best wishes for a great day,
Tiffany :)
