My name is Kasey McFarland (no, I'm not Irish, but someday I will go there just to hear a real Irishman say my name :)). I'm here on Spark People to start shedding the extra 30 pounds I have gained in the last 5 years working full time as a secretary after being a very busy and active stay-at-home mom for many years. Sitting all day does NOT agree with me. You know that commercial, "a body in motion stays in motion and a body at rest, stays at rest"? Well, I've been resting for 5 years and I can tell you that getting moving is the hardest thing I face! When I get home at night, all I want to do is SIT in quiet room alone. No phones, nobody asking me for anything. No computers!

I am (trying to be) a vegetarian, and have been for the last, oh I don't know...about 20 years. I finally find myself at the point where I don't like meat and I don't want to eat it. That's something! If only i could do that with brownies...So anyway, I think it's time I put some effort into learning about nutrition, not just what to eat and what not to eat. Food is not the enemy! Learning to love food, love what it can do and to appreciate the beauty and health benefits of good food is a lifelong journey for me. I'm a slow learner apparently.

I guess my biggest struggle is finding the balance between being ok with myself and what I can do and how I look, and finding enough motivation to make the effort to change it. I've always been athletic and active and even with the extra weight, I can still do whatever I need to do. I've always been ok with myself, with my strength and over-all appearance. I'm married. I'm happy. I have a great family that I love being around. I am confident in my own skin...and know that I am a person of value. Is being thin and attractive or shopping for new clothes, impressing a guy, moving up the corporate ladder, or stopping the time clock on aging a motivation for me? Not really. Is being healthy, learning to love healthy foods, and having a healthy relationship with food my motivation? Yeah, pretty much. I'm hoping that will be enough motivation for long-term lifestyle change.

I also would like to learn to love running. I ran two 5k's in 2010-2011 but had some injuries from a car accident and a torn calf muscle that sidelined me. I'm just starting to get back into that and I find that running is something i DO NOT enjoy, but it makes you feel so great. I am all about that love/hate thing i guess. :)

Anyway, it's great to be here, I hope to get to know all of you a little bit better and journey alongside you as we go through this together. If I can be of any encouragement to you, that will make my day. :)
Thanks! Kasey

Many are stubborn in pursuit of the path they have chosen, few in pursuit of the goal. ~Friedrich Nietzsche

It is for us to pray not for tasks equal to our powers, but for powers equal to our tasks, to go forward with a great desire forever beating at the door of our hearts as we travel toward our distant goal. ~Helen Keller
