Moved from Connecticut back to my home area near Buffalo! Now Cheektowaga.

If anyone wants to chat or even meet, please let me know. I am now 72 , married, one daughter 37, a cat Cujo. I am living alone but visiting hubby in a nursing home 5 min. away. He had a stroke in 2016 but just now entered the home.

For over 40 yrs. I taught H.S. science and health to Deaf students, starting in Buffalo and then W. Hartford, CT.

I am retired and although I am healthy with my numbers, I have difficulty trying to keep up with my family and friends. I really need support to keep me going. Hi, I'm Josie. Have to lose 80 lbs. for health reasons, and also so I can look in the mirror again. I hate posting pics of myself so I am usually behind the camera. I really want to be the person on the inside again, the one on the outside is ticking me off when she is out of breath walking up the stairs. I want to run with my children. Play Just Dance with my kids, and enjoy life all around. I know I can, and I am here to get all the support I can.

Hope is never lost, it is only misplaced.

My name is Naureen I am 43 and have about 30# to lose. I managed to lose 15# about two years ago, but broke my shoulder and had other injuries and gained it all back. I really need to cut down on snacking and increase my activity. I am a martial artist, but haven't been to class in a few weeks due to winter break. I also sing barbershop. I found out I am anemic, but hopefully that problem will be solved soon.
My main problem is motivation. I have been reading the articles on this site and that has helped.

Hi everyone! I'm Jaclyn. I recently moved to Buffalo from the Washington, DC area with my husband and our one-year-old daughter. For the past year, I've been working hard to lose the baby weight and I've finally done it! Now I'm moving on to losing the "happy married" weight, and then the "stressed out grad student" weight - so I've got a few steps ahead of me on this journey.

I love running, hiking, yoga, Zumba, and chasing my almost-toddler around the house. I'm excited to explore Buffalo and enjoy summers away from the DC humidity!

Been on and off again with Spark since 2007 and just found out we have a local group from the "find a buddy" instructions.

I'm in the Elma area, but work in Amherst. My biggest challenge is the stress/emotional eating from work.

I just came back in June and have been working on my eating and exercise, but I'm still just maintaining. Lap Swim at the high school starts again soon, and I am hoping that makes a difference. emoticon

I'm Nicole. I live in Kenmore. I've been struggling to lose weight for years. My biggest hurdle is my work schedule. I find myself working long hours without breaks - sometimes not eating lunch until after three, or not eating dinner until after 9. Its too easy to grab fast food on my way home (or worse between work sites). Since my eating schedule is so erratic, I find myself eating too much on the days I have time because I never know when I'll be able to eat again. I joined to to get some ideas and encouragement.

Hi everyone! I'm Kelly I've lived in Lockport all my life. I've been using Spark since last January and have lost 20 lbs (lots of stops and starts) I originally joined because I got engaged, the wedding is coming up on September 21st! Also my fianc and I just moved into a new apartment 2 weeks ago so thing have been hectic!

Now living in Connecticut but thinking of moving 'back home.' I have lots of family in the area of West Seneca, East Aurora, Depew. I am now retired with a disabled hubby. I twill be hard getting our condo cleaned up and sold. So it will be awhile. Hopefully before 3 years is up. I am doing the move by myself and fibromyalgia makes stuff difficult. Wish me luck. Chris

I see that I have never introduced myself here! I live in NT and work at People Inc. I worked at M.Wile on Elmwood Ave for 22yrs! Kind of miss it! When I left M.Wile I got my Ass. in Substance Abuse Counseling, then went to work for People Inc. It's getting pretty cold now but would like to meet a walking buddy to walk along the river and some of the other paths around our area.

Hi everyone! I started Spark back in May, but just found this group through a blog today. I live in Williamsville, I am 42 and have two beautiful children; 13 y/o boy and a 10 y/o girl. So far, I have lost 30 plus a little pounds. I walk the dog(s); fostering one right now on a daily basis. I keep thinking I want to run but am nervous; shin splints and too much packaging. Hi everyone! I live in the Ken-Ton area and looking to lose the last of my pregnancy pounds. My "baby" is 5 now, so there's no more excuses! I had success with spark people and the south beach diet before (losing 30 lbs) & was able to keep it off but lost motivation to get to my goal. Hello! My name is Jennifer and I'm a SAHM to 4 in South Buffalo. We have 2 boys (9 and 7) and 2 girls (3 and 2) and I'm also the primary caregiver to my 13-month old nephew. To say there's never a dull moment in my house would be an understatement.

I thought, at one point, with chasing all these little ones around that I'd be thin as a rail. Unfortunately, sigh, that is NOT the case!

And I'm terrible with the "diet thing" as a whole. If I tell myself I'm dieting, I inevitably end up cheating and feeling terrible and then I just stop. So this time, with the help of a very good friend, I'm watching, moderating, calculating, enjoying. That seems to be working a bit better for me.

My only problem is that I have NO SCALE in my house. I'm guessing I'll purchase one sooner or later.... just haven't gotten around to doing so yet.

Thank you for all your support and encouragement. I know I'll need it! I hope I can be the same for you!

When I get in my munchie mode, boy can I eat! And nothing good! I get to the point too where I begin to not even care whether or not it's good. My life begins to turn into one blur of eating.

This one day at a time thing has not been easy and takes a tremendous amount of focus. With time, I hope it gets easier. I need to make healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle more of a second-nature type of thing. However, I know I can turn into a junk food junkie in a matter of moments so I can't ever forget that no matter how thin I get or how many lifestyle changes I make.

Spark has really helped me and being able to track what I eat has helped me because it made my dietary choices so much more concrete. I feel more accountable. The on-line support has been terrific and I have friends who have helped me through some tough times. There's always someone who already experienced what I, at one time, was going through. No matter how busy I am, I always have to make time for Spark because Spark keeps me accountable and remembering that I have to do this. It's too easy to slip into that "what the heck" mindframe.

I do really wish you luck, and one thing I have noticed and has been a tough nut to crack is that these changes do not come overnight. There will be suffering. It will be intense. I don't starve myself, but it's still hard. Time goes by quickly, though, why not do something constructive with that time? Between Thanksgiving and January 4, I put on 17 pounds. Time went by and I got fatter and fatter. I've lost some of it. Time goes on and I am making better choices, feeling better and feeling confident and in control. I was scared before. Now I am in a better situation. I don't have to worry about this. As long as I make the right choices I don't have to worry. Plus, I feel psychologically and physically better. It's worth it. I'm worth it. Please stay in touch. We need to support each other.

Thanks for the welcome. I have been tracking, created my own spreadsheet a long time ago and at first I was amazed how many calories I was actually eating, but I think it is the bad carbs that kill me. I have cut way down on bread and pasta. Two of my favs. and reduced sugars. I have tried on my own with no luck so I am hoping that this is the program for me. It seams like it. the book is amazing if you have not gotten it. I am only a few chapters in, but this hits home more than any other program I have seen. I told myself babysteps this time and this program totally helps me do that.

I have this issue too, with the amount of food I eat. I have tried to get it down to 1500 calories, but, man, that just is insane, according to my stomach. So I tried just simply tracking everything I ate for a while on & off, and I am on again with tracking, and starting to experience some slow decrease in my calorie intake. Oh- I also made another change in addition to tracking everything(imperfectly)- I am making myself "socialize" more on the message boards. It does help. I am glad to see you here! (Today I need more help dealing with teenager monsters than my diet, any message board for that???)

I am new, I just joined Spark this week so I hope I am posting this ok. I live in Hamburg and have about 70 pounds to loose. I work full time, have twin boys who are 14 and also do crafts and art. I just seam to be so tired all the time. But I have started back to the YMCA, week 2 of just 2x a week. Figure start slowly and build up to 3 days. I need to get control of the amount I eat. I get so hungry, even after I have eaten. My stomach is actually growling sometimes less then hour after I eat, even with lots of fiber and protein.

Today it is a plan B day! My plan is just to keep track of the food I eat and get some cardio in, whether it is walking, or whatever. I am going to make conscious choices about the food I choose to eat. My teen kids are having a New years party and of course there will be junk there. I really don't want to waste my time on a bag of Doritos if I think about it! Happy New Year!

It's funny, because I wasn't just saying that for you. It's something I am trying to come up with for myself as well. It's so tricky to come up with a plan that allows for enough food to be satisfied but still allowing me to lose weight. Yeah, like a Plan B. I discovered that I better learn about patience and start putting the emphasis on real doable and realistic lifestyle changes. Maybe if I can feel like this is how I have to eat "today" and whether or not I have to exercise "today" I won't get so hung up. Patience. Allow the rest to take care of itself without the darn scale obsession. Maybe we can support each other. For real.

Thanks for the reminder about being too overly strict because that is a fault I encounter. I was just thinking this morning I need to have plan b, I need to anticipate imperfection, etc. I want to allow myself to succeed, so I guess i have to have room for mistakes!

Sounds good. I would think that you don't want to be too overly strict with yourself because then it may too hard to stick with your plan. 30 minutes of cardio per day is very reasonable I would think. I wish you lots of luck and you can turn to me for support anytime you want. I need lots of support myself, as I've fallen off of the wagon so many times. Hi everyone. I am resetting and reframing my goals and rewards system to reach my healthy weight. The one thing I need to improve is getting support from others, so I am getting myself out there! This is not some New Years Resolution but after taking into account todays calorie account, I need to start making some serious changes! Ok, here is what my starting plan is: calorie counting and healthy choices 80% of the time, and 30 minutes minimum per day cardio either in the gym or walking the dog.

Welcome to Williamsville. You'll like it here. I live in Snyder which is right nearby. I go to the Wegman's on Sheridan all the time, and my husband and I are going to be joining Word Gym because it's only $99 a year. They don't offer classes yet, but apparently they're going to expanding the gym and offer classes, a basketball court, etc. If you want the classes immediately then World is not for you. For me and my husband, however, the price is right! Good luck with the Bar! My husband is an attorney and a graduate of UB Law. I really wish you luck with that exam. No life in January, right? Hey everyone, I introduced myself below before I saw that the Buffalo group has a dedicated thread. I'm moving to Williamsville on or about January 15, 2010. I'll be moving in with my fiance while I study for the February NY bar exam and plan our August wedding, which will be held in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia. Brand new to SparkPeople in the hopes that it can be the thing that keeps me sane while everything else in life is changing and challenging. Looking forward to meeting you all. Heya, I'm Jen, and I live in the Elmwood area. I signed up for SparkPeople just a little while ago as a way of tracking how many calories I burn while exercising. Hopefully it'll encourage me to still work out when I go back to school in the fall. :)

Hi,everyone! I'm Bob and I live in Cheektowaga with my wife. We will celebrate our 37th anniversary this month. I joined SP last year at my sister's recommendation, but did not start taking advantage of all the features until about 2 months ago, after a Dr.'s visit where I was told that NOT losing weight could start causing other related issues.
