Welcome from one new person to another@

One suggestion is to put your pedometer on as soon as you get up in the morning and take it off right before you go to bed. If you only put it on at "some point in the morning" you miss alot.

do simple things to add steps.....make your first goal only 2,000 steps per day for a week. Track them in Sparkpeople steps. I've read that you should try to increase by 500 steps each week. In December I was walking an average of 3,000 to 4,ooo steps per day. Now I am walking about 8,000 to over 10,000 per day. It's a cycle - once you are stepping more each day, you'll feel better and want to step even more, etc, etc. Keep it up!

Some ideas for more steps. If there is another printer further away you can use, then send your documents there. When shopping or even at work, park far away from the store (don't look for the closest parking space), there are always many parking spaces not close to the stores. Do you live close enough to actually walk to work???? Instead of calling coworkers on the phone for an answer to something, walk down to their cube, desk... Even when I go to weight watchers, there is a fairly big parking lot that two buildings share and I park near the other building.

New low reached 149.2 lbs on 5/6/11. Made my weight watcher goal on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.
New walk record 9/9/11, 4 miles in 58 minutes.

Welcome. I think you'll find this team very positive!
To add lots of extra steps, I make sure I take the stairs up and down to the floor I work on. Several round trips a day really adds up.
Keep on stepping,
Holly

Welcome!!!!!!

Welcome. Most of us live sedentary lives so the challenge to reach 10,000 is a big deal. It is the little things like parking farther, walking at lunch, walking after dinner, etc that make the difference.

Many of us are within a few hundred steps of our goal number at bedtime and can be seen marching in place as we wash faces and brush teeth.

Make goals to increase your daily steps by a couple hundred each week and you will soon be there. I do average my totals over the week as some days I walk more than other but I have a minimum number I walk every day I can. My "goal" steps are more than my minimum steps so I'm always reaching for something more.

Hi there. I just joined this team because I love to walk. I just started with a new pedometer and would like to see myself hit the 10,000 steps a day. This isn't an easy task for me. I work at a mostly sedentary job - on the computer. The walking is mostly walking to a printer and if the weather permits, outside at lunch time. I recently went on a weekend trip to New Hope, PA and walked all day only to find myself 1700 steps short of the goal. This was the closest I've come to meeting 10,000. I'd like to hear your ideas on the best way to accomplish this. I think that being with this team will benefit me greatly because it's fun to be with a group you can relate to and enjoy walking as a form of staying healthy and exercising.

I look forward to learning from you and helping where I can. Thanks.
