Hi, I'm Beth

I've been dieting all my life and am approaching 60. You would think that I would have come up with something that worked by now! LOL

Seriously, I just got that serious talk from the doctor and need to lose about 50 lbs. Well, really it is more than that, but that is just too depressing to think about, so I will start with 50.
I'm an empty nester, a public servant and a history enthusiast.

I am listening to motivational tapes to try to change my self "speak" about diet and exercise. So "Yea! I LOVE to exercise". hmmmmmm. it's worth a shot.

Good luck to everyone facing this same goal!

Hi, I'm Sheila, new to this group but not to Spark. I lost 85 lbs after the birth of my first born, I had a terrible pregnancy but was thrilled to lose the weight. Now he's 15, and I'm almost as heavy as I was when pregnant.

I've had a terrible divorce, financial insecurity, lots of stress, but I am blessed with two incredible children. They are such a joy! After a sexual assault from a former supervisor 2 years ago, that is when I put most of this weight on. I was just so devastated. And thought by now, I was old enough that assaults like that would be a thing of the past... nope. So, I'm trying to work through that. I know fear of it happening again is part of why this weight stays on - I feel safer when I'm fat. BUT that is not healthy and I want to stick around for my kids.

So, I'm back, and I'm committed to self care, even if that means I lose weight and have to fight men off again. Ugh.

New to the group but not new to Sparkpeople. I'm just now starting to explore groups outside of being a grandparent! I'll be 45 in 2 weeks and was officially diagnosed with fibromyalgia and early stages of osteo-arthritis in May. In total I have 76.4 pounds to lose from my highest weight to my goal weight. I've lost 9.8 pounds so far. My goal is to lose 2 pounds per week (which I've been meeting) and be at least close if not at my goal weight by my daughter's wedding. I know those last pounds can be tricky. I also know that I might be completely fit and happy at a higher weight than my goal weight ~ so the goals may change the closer I get goal weight. I was a super fit 118 in the military, so I set the goal for 125 seeing as I likely won't be that hard core again... then again, you never know! I'm leaving it open due to my health conditions that currently have me limited in many areas (high blood pressure, vascular microspasms, early osteo-arthritis, and fibromyalgia). I'm hoping that as my weight decreases that the health issues will also decrease thus opening up my world again. I love playing with my grandchildren but it's so hard to do when I'm in pain constantly.

I was about 5 pounds from my prepregnancy weight when my godson died (125). I put on 50 pounds in 2 months (175). I lost 40 of it (135) through parking in farthest parking space, and packing my breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Then I had to have a D&C for hyperplasia to which I gained 20 within 6 weeks (155) then added another 10 over the next year (165). I stayed there for years no matter what I did. Then slowly added another 15 after a serious bout with endometriosis (180). I reversed the endometriosis but the weight still wouldn't come off. Mind you, because I am a Marine, I was working out all the time, swimming, hiking, dancing, constantly moving and doing weight training - yet not a pound dropped. Then last September I started going in to my cardiologist for a series of tests over the course of 2 months when we noticed I was gaining a pound a week with no explanation as to why.

In January I changed my eating. I started eating a ton of veggies by making veggie scrambles (sauteed veggies with an egg scrambled in after sauteeing). It quickly became the favorite of several in the house and I was spending two hours chopping, sauteeing, and scrambling for 5 people. (Thankfully Dad found a chopper of sorts that does that dicing job so much faster than doing it by hand.) Then I was eating a salad with chopped fruit and nuts for lunch and then a meat and two veggies most nights for dinner. I was continuing to gain weight even at calorie deficits and very healthy choices!!

In March I began milling my own wheat to bake my own bread (I was baking our own bread before but from store bought flour). That was the key to halting the weight gain. After gaining a pound a week for 21 weeks, this was a relief! I was still eating healthy and at a calorie deficit.

In May I added in home-brewed milk kefir as I had read that it was good for things like fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis and the like. That's when the weight started coming off. Two weeks ago, I started some light swimming and treading water for pain management (suggested by my doctor). I'm not so sure about the pain management part but it sure is nice & pain-free while I'm in the water but as soon as I get out, the pain is worse that when I got in. But it has boosted my weight loss so I'm sticking to it. The pain will be there no matter what and I'm not hurting myself so I'm okay with it... for now anyway.

So there's my long story!

My name is Crystal.

I am 29 years old female

I am a supervisor for a Bank (over the phone consulting)

I have been struggeling with weight all my life!

My goal is to be back to 170 which I was in my teens. Back then that seemed so HUGE but I think it worked for my bone structer and height. I am 5'9 and my bone structure is large. Since I have a large body frame I need meat on my bones!

The number on the scale still trips me out and I am trying on a daily basis not to focus so much on the number but instead on how I feel and look.

Just want to introduce myself...

I'm 53, a born again Christian, and I live in the UK.
My goal weight is 10 st 10 (150 pounds)

I guess I'm around 15 st 5 (215 pounds) but I'll find out for sure in the morning.

Tomorrow I'm starting the Lord's Table Course with a "normal" day and a "half day" on Sunday.

I want to blog about it all. Probably not daily, but a couple of times a week at least.

It'll be just me and the course book, as they don't do online support any more. Unless any of you want to join in?

Hello.... My name is Amy, I am 47 widowed with 3 adult children 2 boys 27(soon to be 28) and 25m 1 daughter 24. My 25 year old moved back in after being on his own for a couple of years. I am a 19 year Hodgkin's Lymphoma Survivor and have survived 6 small full blown strokes. I have been with Spark since August 29.

I have been back and forth with my weight in 2013 I was down to 150 pounds after 5 years of getting to that point and I was placed on Lyrica for nerve pain and I gained it all back plus some in 2 1/2 months time. I am again losing weight slowly I am down 18 pounds from my heaviest weight of 215. I really love walking the open space trails with my granddog Shadow. Walking is the biggest part of my exercise regimen.

My name is Debbie. I suffered a traumatic brain injury on 2/25/16 and still have problems with dizziness, loss of balance, and memory problems. I have had 8 eye surgeries in 2016 including cornea transplant and cataract surgery in each eye.

The best thing that came out of my accident (I was a pedestrian who was hit by a van) is that I had to find a family practiioner who ran blood work. My cholesterol numbers where through the roof. After 3 months of being treated with a statin, my numbers barely budged. This truly opened my eyes to having to make some major lifestyle changes. I found SP and I joined TOPS. I love tracking my food on SP! Based on a BMI of 25, I would have to get down to 150 lbs. 150 lbs is better than 125 lbs based on my height. 79.2 lbs to lose is more obtainable than 104.2 lbs.

Life is precious. Live each day like you've been given a special gift.

Debbie

Hi Marilyn Kay,

First I want to say I am so sorry for the loss of your son, that is such a tragic experience for you and your family. You have certainly been through a challenging experience with the culmination of the pace maker after the heart attack. It sounds like you went through cardiac rehab and I am wondering even though it was a number of years ago, if you should talk with your cardiologist and find out if you would be eligible to return based on your current health status. The experience the professionals can offer may be invaluable in your achieving your goals. I would also think if you haven't already a good discussion with your primary care physician regarding your goals and a visit to a dietician that would incorporate healthy eating taking into account your diabetes.
If you have already done all these things and are able to self monitor during your walking routine that is great. We are here to offer support and encouragement, however we are not health care providers that can offer the professional support you may benefit from based on your medical conditions.
Take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing,

I am Marilyn Kay. I am 62 years old and have a heart condition, diabetes and sleep Apnea. I weigh 181.2 lbs and can't seem to get below that. I was very skinny until 1979 when I gave birth to my 4th child. I had my appendix removed when I was 4 months pregnant with my 4th child. I gained 35 lbs while pregnant and before this I always lost the 35 lbs by the time I left the hospital but this time I only lost half the weight which put me at a more healthy weight of 116 lbs instead of the 105 lbs I had normally weighed. I actually felt better at that weight. I had a 5th child a few years later and got down to the 116 lbs again, but a couple of years later I found myself weighing 135 lbs. I started an exercise class and lost about 10 lbs but then I began going to college and gained 15 lbs. my freshman year and another 10 to 15 lbs each year after.
When I had a heart attack in 2006 I weighed 210 lbs. Because of therapy for 6 months I was able to lost down to 190 lbs. I stayed between 190 and 195 lbs for several years. My son was killed in 2014 and I finally got in the 180's but can't seem to lose any more weight. I would like to get down to at least 130 lbs. I know I would feel better if I got down to that weight. It would also mean I might be able to get off a lot of my medicine.
My normal form of exercise is walking. With my heart condition I have an implantable defibrillator attached to my heart. My heart only pumps at 20 % where most people's pump at 80-90%. I can't walk very fast or I get chest pains and I tire easily. I am trying to build my number of steps I take each day. I have had days where I managed to get 7,000 but they are few and far apart. Most of the time I only get about 3,000 steps. I also need to work on eating healthy. I know if I really work at it I will lose the weight.

Marilyn Kay

I can do this!

Hi Amanda,

Sounds like you have found the right team and spark people definitely has a good network of support especially when your family doesn't get what you are trying to accomplish. If you haven't already, you might also look for a SP buddy which can be especially helpful to have that 1:1 sharing of frustrations and cheering section.

I'm Amanda and I'm 23, almost 24. I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. Since my early teens my weight has yoyod up and down with a variance of about thirty pounds. This depended on the activity I was doing at the time.
Durring the past two years my life has changed drastically. Around my twenty second birthday I became pregnant. At the time I got pregnant I weighed about 244. After three months of constant (by constant I mean i survived on ramen noodles and ice cause thats all i could keep down) morning sickness I had gotten down to 200. Once the morning sickness abated I gained thirty pounds rapidly. On March 9th of 2015 I gave birth to my daughter Amber. Since then it has been like I cannot get full. I just do not feel full at all. Because of this fact I now weigh 284lbs, have been diagnosed with hypertension, and have liver problems. I also am dealing with constant back and knee pain.
My doctor told me I desperately need to loose weight but I'm not sure I can stick to it alone. Which is ultimately what I am. My parents and I do not really talk. My grandmother, she throws a fit (not exagerating at all when i say this) when I tell her no because one little container of food has almost four hundred callories, or over half the calories in something is from fat.
I want to get healthy for myself and my daughter.

Hi my name is Jean and I need to lose a lot of weight. I am 61, soon to be 62 and other than being overweight I feel fine. Hoping to make some friends along the way and hoping there are some other women my age who know what it is like to go through menopause so they know how hard it is to lose the weight that you have gained.

Good luck to everyone on their journey, whatever it may be.

Been getting back on the exercise wagon and started a walking program with a friend of mine. So far so good but I definitely need support. :)

Hi...my name is Doreen and I started exercising about a month and a half ago but then I got busy, I guess with excuses again and one day of no exercise turned into a week and a half. Yikes. I hate when I get discouraged because after a month or so of exercise I should have lost something. I am basing it off my clothes and I did not see any substantial change. I know its been only a month and I need to keep going. If I really think about how I felt during that month I would say that I did sleep better, and my legs did not feel so restless. So that is something right?

So I am starting up again because I really need to keep pushing myself. This is hard work in itself to stay motivated and to lose weight. So I figure the first step is the hardest. I need to remember how I feel after a workout. Relieved, grateful, happy that I achieved another workout, and how I feel good about myself....like a pat on the back that says good job, keep it up!

This week I will focus on my exercise and my eating. I do ok some days on the eating but not everyday, and that I need to change. Work in progress, right?

When I was working out my son was so happy to see me doing it, and he said I am so excited mom that one day you could look like her.. He was talking about Autumn on 21 day fix. I laughed...one day though I could....I just want to be healthy, and look healthy....that is my goal. At 50 that is my focus....

I have plenty weight to lose but I just want to say as an immediate goal I would be happy to see a few pounds shed.

With every step I take daily will lead me to my goal!

Hi! I'm Robin and I'd love to lose 50 pounds. Started out thinking I'd lose 35 (despite knowing I needed to lose more) but saw your team and decided, "Yes, that's exactly what I need to do." At 73 it comes off slowly, but with exercise--snow & ice during the winter necessitate indoor work-outs, so I use an elliptical trainer, a treadclimber, and a stationary bike 6 days a week and hand weights three days--and being conscientious about food/calories/nutrition, it will come off sooner or later. I am thoroughly enjoying this journey.

Great ideas for rewards. I bought a bunch of earrings for myself and wrapped them all up at the same time. Initially I had a specific weight loss in mind each time I would 'gift' myself; then I found that my weight fluctuated lose, regain a couple pounds lose and stay there, repeat process over and over. So now when I feel I have made a significant change that is staying consistent I 'gift' myself. This may change as I have a plateau weight that I should be at by end of summer (been there before weight then regain after maintaining for xxx time frame); so that will be an out of the box item when I pass that number.

Curious what book you chose?

Thanks!!! Today was day 1 of week 2, and due to a migraine I missed my work out. I plan on doing cardio and strength tomorrow to make up for it. My reward for my first week was a bubble bath with a book night (awesome!). My 30 day reward will be speakers for my ipad, 60 days I get piercings, and 90 days I get a $200 shopping spree. I have a few other little rewards like a pedicure and such to sprinkle throughout.

Hello All, I am determined to lose 50 pounds this year. My goal is Labour Day 2015! I run about 3k at a time - used to run more but the weight is hard on my feet. I have joined the gym, have a friend to go with and a supportive spouse. He needs to lose as well - as supportive as he is - he can also really help me blow it - buying a bag of chips and dip, opening a bottle of wine ..... the delicious hedonistic lifestyle that put me into this mess.
So, no wine for me - just whine. Happy New Year!

Hello, I am Trish. I am 47 & 54 lbs overweight. For some reason, I seem to be unable to stop eating at night or at least choose healthier foods. I eat healthy during the day then after 8pm I seem to start eating carbs. I am hoping to change that by being accountable online.

Hi All!

My name is Amanda and I am 30 years old. I have about 60-75lbs to lose. I had my first child in June, and its amazing how much faster time goes when you have a little one!

Unfortunately with babies comes the weight. I am heavier than I have every been and not only am I heavier, but my body has gone all "fun house mirror" on me since I became pregnant....there is stuff in places that has never been there before! I want to live a healthier life for both myself and my son. If he is not motivation enough to get on the right track I am not sure what is! I work in the Human service field and tell people day after day to not give up and keep working towards whatever goals they might have but can never seem to find enough motivation to give myself the same encouragement! But todays the day.

Game on!!!!

Hello. I'm new to this team. My name is Kris. I'm 45, nearly 46 and have around 75-100 lbs to lose. I've been on SP for a while. Things have worked and not worked for me in my efforts to lose and keep off the weight.

I'm married to a wonderful man. We ride a Harley. We have 1 cat, 2 turtles and 4 snakes.

I'm looking forward to learning more about this team and the members.

Hi everyone! I'm not entirely new to SP, but I did just join this group. My name's Alyssa, and I'm a 28 year old college student. I've got around 75lbs to lose all together to get me at least back down to a somewhat healthy range again, though my ultimate goal is to get down to 135lbs...which means I really have like 98lbs to lose which is pretty terrifying. So, I'm taking it in steps. First goal weight is to get down to 215. Little less scary to think about, that's only 19lbs to lose. Baby steps first.

I'm looking forward to the start of the semester here in another week or so, because then I can start using the rec center and machines again to add variety to my routines. I gotta keep going and working and moving and telling myself it will be better in the long run! That I don't want to go to the doctor again and have them shaking their heads because my blood pressure is too high for my age.

I'm doing this for ME. For a healthier me!

Then you stand,
Then you stand" -- Stand. Rascal Flatts.

Hi my name is Donna and I have the most amazing seven year old son. Being a single Mom has its challenges, but I wouldn't change it for anything.

I have 80 pounds to lose. Lately I have been struggling to find motivation to keep going, but I am determined that I will make it to the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hopefully, I'll make some new friends here. I wish each and every one of you success on your journey.

Hi all, my name is Alexandra, I'm 28 years old with 60 pounds to lose. I would like to meet people with similar goals to work together and mutual encouragement to reach our goals. My biggest challenge is to control continuos eating, I do even when I'm not hungry just because the food's flavor or smell is good. My guilty sin: bread and sweets.

I'm trying to find accountabilities pal for communication through whatsap or facebook for a closer approach. If interested, send me a private message.

My name is Karen, i'm 28 years old with a beautiful daughter and an amazing Fiance. I had tried to lose weight before and got down to 223 but I gained 20 lbs back when I plateaued and got discouraged. I have realized now that plateauing is completely normal and a lot of people experience it and that you should just stick with the plan until it passes. When I started to work out a couple years ago I was at 256. This time I started out at 238 and am already down to 231. I am determined to stick with it this time and have even got myself a motivational bikini for when I reach my goal. :)

Hello! My name is Danielle and I am 32 years old. I have two children and I am getting married in August 2014. I am new to Spark People and wanted to see what it was about and what it could do for me. I have been using myfitnesspal for the past 55 days since I started working out at the gym, watching my portions and drinking more water. I recently purchased a Fitbit One and the Aria scale and I love them so far! I have lost 11.1 pounds so far! My goal is to be at 140 pounds by March 1, 2015! I have 65 more pounds! Some days are hard but I am motivated to get there I just have to keep at it!

Hi everyone! My name is Maria and I am a full-time employee at a crisis line, I have an amazing 15-yr old boy, and a pretty cool husband.

I have let my weight creep up on me like a wild vine and now I am finding it hard to peel it off. I have to lose about 63 lb. to be in the "healthy weight" category of my doctor's BMI chart. It seems it will be endless work, but I have to give it a try.

Hi everyone! emoticon

I'm a stay-at-home mom of an almost 3 year old little boy who has definitely earned the nickname "destruct-o-tot" with anything made of paper or cardboard (luckily that's all he destroys). The pregnancy went rather well and afterwards I lost the baby weight almost immediately. However, I suffered from extensive baby blues, hardly left bed even on a good day, and ended up gaining it all back and then some. I didn't run to food, luckily, so increasing my activity should be all I need.

In December 2013, I said enough is enough and started working towards getting back to under 200 and perhaps even less than that. With my little guy acting more and more independent, I have a bit more time to work on weight loss. I've lost almost 8 pounds so far (based on my January 1st weigh in), but need to lose another 59 pounds to hit my first goal.
