I'm not a real sweets craver but when I do, I find that a sugar free popscicle does the trick. It's cold, sweet and takes some time to finish. My favorites are lime and orange. I trried the fruit pops but they don't work the same and make me very thirsty.

Down 4 pounds -- emoticon

As for the sugar cravings... I'm no expert on that, but it seems like the more sweet things I eat, the more my body thinks it should have. I do drink diet soda, which I've read can increase sugar cravings but I don't really seem to notice that being a problem; but the halloween candy was awfully difficult to stay out of, and one would lead to "just one more" etc. When I'm doing better and staying away from sugar, many sweet things taste way TOO sweet to me. Just a couple of my own observations, for what they're worth!

Hello all,

Just wanted to post I'm down 4 lbs. this week. Can I get a Group WhooHooo!!!???

I did struggle with sugar cravings so PLEASE give me some suggestions on how to overcome those. It was as if there were these invisible junk food junkies in my stomach whinning for something sweet, so hard to ignore -argh!! I tried fruit and fruit smoothies and even 1 or 2 squares of chocolate which helped a little bit but those little devils were pretty darn persistent! Any help you can suggest please?

Thanks all.

Hi from the Wet coast of Canada (that's not a typo, . . it's been very wet this past 2 weeks). Been on Spark for a while now, but new to this group. This Spring I was at my heaviest at 247. I lost 16 pounds by September. In September I signed up for a small town newspaper 'health competition'. In the first 6 weeks I lost 23 pounds. With 2 weeks to go I hope to get below 205. After that the idea is to reach my first goal of 190 pounds. This will be a very major accomplishment as it has been over 35 years since I was below 200. See you around

I signed up several weeks ago but just decided to get with it today when I got my Fitbit. 71 years old, type 2 diabetic, asthma but a very healthy obese lady. There I said the nasty "O" word". Looks really bad in type. Just shows how you can fool yourself.

Welcome, new team members! Spark People is a great place to find lots of support, info, and the tools you need to reach your goals. Take one day at a time and make changes gradually so you don't end up overwhelmed and give up. The nutrition tracker has been a huge help to me since I joined about a month and a half ago, it leaves no doubt about what you're taking in and you can enter what you're planning to eat and then make adjustments as needed to stay within your calorie range as well as other nutrition parameters.

Hello Everyone! I've been on the site a few weeks now, but just getting around to really checking out the groups I joined. I love what I'm reading here and learning and think this will be a nice fit. You guys are terrifc and so encouraging!

About me: I'm a 54 year old mom to 3 and grandmother to 3 boys. I workout regularly, at least 4x week, but have decided that I must overcome my challanges with eating. I've developed some great habits over the years (apparently not enough) and I'm looking to take it to the next level.

Please feel free to add me as a friend, ask questions and make suggestions :)

I joined Sparks people about 2 weeks ago. But I have been hesitant to blog. So this is my first message to the team. I've taken the challenge to post 7 times in a week. I did not meet an opportunity and ate too many cookies. So, I took a poll and one of my results said I keep things in to much and it creates stress, which may cause me to overeat. So, I am trying this and I feel so 'naked'. But I need to lose 55 lbs. So I am reaching out for a change. Can't keep doing the same thing cos I am getting the same results.

WELCOME JOE! I AM KIND OF NEW HERE TOO. AND I DO THE SAME THING YOU DO. FOR SOME REASON, THERE IS THAT CERTAIN WEIGHT THAT I GET TO AND THEN TOTALLY BLOW IT AND GIVE UP. I SURE WISH I KNEW WHY. I HAVE A FRIEND THAT IS A PSYCHOLOGIST WHO TELLS ME I AM AFRAID TO SUCCEED BECAUSE I CAN HIDE BEHIND MY WEIGHT WHEN I AM FAT - THAT I REALLY DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO NOTICE ME. INTERESTING THOUGHT. SO I HAVE BROKEN PAST FROM 354 TO 232. I STILL HAVE FAR TOO LONG TO GO TO EVEN VISUALIZE IT SO I JUST DO 10% AT A TIME. WELCOME AND GOOD LUCK!

Hi,
New to the group, left for a year or so and came back. I want to lose this gut and get down to a healthy wait. My son is 16 now and i want to make sure i see his children born. i am at 310 seems like i get down to 260 to the 270's and thats were the stress gets to me. i am now eating turky sausage bagel with egg in the morning, and a vegie chicken pattie for lunch on a thin bagel or thin sandwich bread.

Hi,

Nice to meet you. Congratulations. It looks like you are half way to your goal! I was surprised when I weighed myself today that I have lost six and a half pounds. My goal is also two a week. I hope my body doesn't freak out,, and slow down its metabolism. I walked 15 minutes yesterday, and 20 today..HURRAH!

Hi,
We ave the same weekly goals. Although I've been doing great on the food aspect of the program. I find following Sparks menus takes all the decision making out of my life. The difficult part is the exercise. I am recovering from pnuemonia, but realistically exercise is always something that I procrastinate. I did get in an uphill walk yesterday, and Iam walking again today. If I can keep this up, I wil be successful.

Nice to meet you, Carol

Hi erin,

I don't even have that excuse of being asked to lead a team... knew it would be to much for me so I didn't volunteer for it... jsut was to much to keep track of... so now only am tracking my food and my exercise... and doing the trial sp. coach... takes some time to do even that... so far managed to be here till friday.. 5 days... and doing not to bad... been able to say no to things I normally would have eaten... am quite motivated... alm hoping to see a loss on the scale come tuesday.

Have a good day all

BEVIEANN - THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. SPARK CAN BE EXHAUSTING IF YOU ARE ON TOO MANY TEAMS AND ASKED TO LEAD ONE TEMPORARILY ONLY TO HAVE THE OTHER LEADER BAIL ON YOU LEAVING YOU IN CHARGE WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE THE TIME.
SO I LEFT JUST TO RE-COUP. BUT I ENDED UP GAINING BACK 19 OF MY HARD FOUGHT OFF POUNDS SO IT WASN'T WORTH IT. NOW, I JUST HAVE TO LEARN TO SAY NO WHEN ASKED TO LEAD A TEAM.

Hi all,

I am returning after some time away... just got to be to much to keep track of... Was a bad mistake. I am back and am exercising 20 minutes a day to start. I do have some health issues that I have to be careful when I do exercise. I need to lose more than 100 pounds but will be making my goal 5% at a time and paying myself for my successes.

I am a mother of 2 and grandmother to 2 wonderful grandsons. I love to sit and do crafts making it hard for me to get off my duff and actually do a walking tape. So the days I do I consider a great success.

I am on my third day of the program and so far so good. I can and will do this. My friend and I are challenging each other to lose.. we are paying ourselves what it would cost to go to WW each month and paying ourselves for every pound we lose. Why pay WW when i can use the money to get some new clothes as a result of my successful weight loss.

Well have a great day

Bev

I'M NOT NEW TO SPARK BUT RETURNING AFTER BEING AWAY FOR AWHILE. I AM A 65 YEAR OLD FEMALE - LOVE ANIMALS, ANGELS, COOKING, READING AND HATE, HATE, HATE, TO EXERCISE BUT I HAVE TO - DAILY - JUST TO KEEP MOBILE. I HAVE A.S. IN ADDITION TO A COUPLE OTHER HEALTH ISSUES BUT REFUSE TO LET THEM DEFINE ME. BUT WATCH OUT! I HAVE A TENDENCY TO BE VERY OUTSPOKEN AND HAVE A SOMEWHAT DEMENTED SENSE OF HUMOR. LOVE TO BLOG TOO. Hello to all, I am new to spark and just started about 1 month ago. I am trying to learn how to navigate through spark. I am over 50 and have 60 lbs to lose. I have lost 12 lbs in 3 weeks. I seem to be able to stick to plans but I get depressed sometimes as I still have a family at home who can eat and do as they please with no health or weight issues. My genetic genes however are not that good. I have to excercise and watch what I eat as I struggle with a very low metabolism. Just wanted to talk to other people just like me. Hope to learn how to use all that spark has to offer to help me with my goals.

Hello Everyone:

My name is Sylvia and I am determed that this is the last time I will start a lifestyle change.

I've started today with a bang. Ate right, did Day 1 28-day Bootcampt and did the 9-min arm workout.

Hello BrendaM714,
I have an appointment next Wednesday regarding my back problems and hope to get an MRI on my lumbar spine. I have to go to the hospital near his office to get the medical report for the MRI to my cervical spine that was done in June.
I hope to go for epidural injections for my lumbar, That doctor hit the "sweet spot" on my sciatic nerve and haven't had a problem since then,Feb./2010. But now, I have another different problem to the nerves in my lumbar other than the sciatic nerve. I'm hoping he hits the " sweet spot" there too. John/NY,9/11/2012 Never forget

Hi New Members & returns!

Poopsie - There is a diabetic format for tracking meals as well as your glucose levels that may help you keep on track. We are a very active team, see our One Pound At a Time discussion group. Support is here for you. I can understand setting up ones self for failure. It wasn't until I started to create a new script for myself that I began to (finally!) succeed. Something as simple as an index card stating: "I can do it" to read. Look yourself in the eyes in a mirror and state positive outcomes. Set small goals & reward yourself when you reach them, could be something as simple as renting a special movie. Do not drag out the old script if you fluctuate a pound or two, it's normal. Use the tools & use the group for support.

SBAnthony1 - support is here for you, too. Participate in the discussions. Ask questions, there is a lot of experience & knowledge for you to draw on.

Millec5 - Support is here for you also. Use the tools on SP to help you succeed.

John - So sorry that you are having medical problems. SP can support you in the weight loss but not the medical issues. Remember to check w/ your Dr, if you have not already done so, on allowable exercises.

BamaGal - The recumbent bike sounds like a good way to keep your knees happy while doing cardio exercise.

Again, welcome to this team.

Brenda - New Jersey - EST

The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan and a date.

Stand up to your obstacles and do something about them. You will find they haven't half the strength you think they have.

Hi Spark people! I just joined the site and I am learning how to navigate it. I am a 50 (something) and have decided that I have ignored my ever increasing waistline long enough. It is time I took some action and this site looks like it has lots of tools to help motovate me to lose weight. Looking forward to "meeting" some of you and hearing about your successes.

Hello again Spark people, tis I, Jocko56beer2,I've been away for most of the summer. I was trying to deal with some very painful problems that cropped up. I had a Cervical spine MRI.
I'm being pressured to have an operation to my neck, it would have to be done from the back of the neck, and could be a very long rehabilitation,12-18 months. I can feel and see the effects of the three bones spurs that are touching the spinal cord. 1ST, my legs are very shakey most of the day. I do several stretching exercises and try to walk daily.2nd, Pain in the legs are on the side(radiculopathy) and the front of the leg shooting down to the toes.3rd, Pain while walking. John/NY
PS, I wanted to get an MRI to my lumbar but she is hesitant to do so since I said I don't think I want an operation,my bad mistake. John

Hi, I'm new today and I'm from Alabama, which you can tell by my username. I am on the shady side of 50 and have over 80 pounds to lose. I need knee replacement in both knees from a fall down a flight of stairs years ago. And I have arthritis and degenerating disks in my spine so can't exercise too much. I do have a recumbent bicycle I can use. I hope this website will help. My doctor is after me! Good luck to everyone else in their quest to lose weight.

Hi, I'm Dee. I am 63 (ugh that sounds so old!) and need to lose 50 pounds AGAIN. I'm from Ohio. My husband died 2 1/2 years ago. I have since retired and moved by my son and my dad who is in a nursing home. I really haven't made new friends in this area so I'm afraid food has become my friend and companion. I keep having to take more meds for high blood pressure and my doctor is not happy with me for gaining instead of losing weight. My sister and brother and I have a dream vacation to Hawaii planned for May so that is my new motivation! I've been doing really well so far this week with eating right and exercising. Now to keep it up!

I will be there for anyone who needs it. I have survived this long and plan on helping myself to live a lot longer. I am finally on my maintenance dose of prednisone and guess what? My endocrine is right. It is allowing my thyroid meds to finally work so I don't feel like I am in slow motion 24/7. I hope this lasts long enough to get down, but I know how that goes. I will do my best not to catch anything so I don't have to go back up on my steroids.

I had a goal of getting in the pool every day, but that is not working. When I have severe muscle cramps I can't climb the ladder. So if I get in at least 4 x a week for 45 minutes I will be happy. I do my strength exercise in the pool too. Who said you couldn't get hand weights wet!! LOL!
Hang in there. The hardest thing to fight is your own mind.

I hear you sister. I need to lose 70 pounds and I need encouragement too. I want to lose weight just to feel better. My knees would be so much better if I lost weight.
I am ready to start a new chapter in my life - I just turned 56. I have been over weight for 5 years. It's time to turn my life around.

Hi, I have recently moved from WV to NC and enjoying the wonderful weather. I am definitely over 50 and need to lose 100 pounds. I injured both knees in 1999 and didn't have surgery until 2010 when I had both knees replaced at one time. I thought my time had come to shine, but within 2 months of surgery Rheumatoid Arthritis moved in for an extended visit. Well, I have that under control but the steroids I must take made me gain even more weight. I have gained so much weight and am determined to shed it off like an old snake skin. I need all the encouragement I can get after years of inactivity.

SUE Welcome to the group. I often think (in my very judgemental way I admit) that some ppl use physical illnesses as an excuse. Many of us (most by 50+ w/ 50+ lbs to lose) have bum knees, ankles, hips etc etc. And many w/ those problems put the pedal to the metal and lose weight IN SPITE of it.
YOU on the other hand have some exceptionally serious stuff going on and yet are determined to lose anyway! GOOD FOR YOU! your attitude is really inspiring to me and I wish you every single success possible. I go on steroids several times a year and I know how extremely difficult that alone makes it to lose weight (or to sleep or lots of other things). Add your other problems... well let's say I'm REALLY ROOTING FOR YOU!! emoticon

Hi, I am Susan and I have at least 150 pounds to lose, but I will take that 30 at a time. I have a very rare endocrine disorder and I do not have one endocrine system that works. I have a dead thyroid, adrenal s don't function normally, pituitary is completely down making little or no hormones. I take every hormone modern medicine has devised to stay alive. I am steroid dependent for life and have all the bad side affects to go with it. I have lost 3 joints in a short time, have cataracts in both eyes, severe tetany (muscle cramps like no one ever wants to feel), and have been incredibly moody. The docs said I will never be able to lose the weight even with surgery because it is all hormone based and because the life saving hormones I take need the stomach to metabolize properly. So, here I am. Out to prove them wrong. Wish me luck.

Hi, I'm Donna. I'm 52 years old and need to lose at least 60 lbs although my cardiologist wants 95 lbs. I am a stress eater and my stress level the last year has been sky-high so I gained back 40 lbs and then some of the weight I lost 2 years ago. In the last year, I've finalized a divorce, had major surgery, nursed my fiance through rotator cuff surgery recovery, helped him through the Social Security Disability process, bought a house and moved from MD to NC. I had open heart surgery in 1999 for atrial septal defect repair so I know I need to lose the weight for my heart health if nothing else. Now to reduce the stress eating and get on the right track.
