I want to read The Spark as well but can't afford it. So I have it on reserve from my piblic library and it's on it's way now. I'll have it for 2 weeks and then I think I can renew if tor 2 more. I'm anxious to read it. Instead of highlighting what I'd like, I'll just take notes. Maybe someday, I can afford it.

Hello everyone and thanks for the welcome e-mails from group leaders. I just joined yesterday. The pounds have crept up in the last few months and I've fallen off the fitness routine so I'm looking for motivation to help me with a healthier living plan. I printed the menu for today and have made it through two meals, which is something I haven't done in while. Wish me luck!

I am retired Army and I let a few extra pounds creep up and I know better. I am working hard to get them off and to tone. I am a divorced mom with 2 daughters and this site has helped me tremendously. Thanks for all the support. emoticon

Hi,I'm very new at this computer stuff, I tried to do this once before but couldn't get around the site good enough. This time I'm so ready to start, that I will keep going. My life is going through some tough times right now, so I've been alittle depressed,not eating right just sitting around more than I use to. I dont always have enough money to buy a lot of the food that I should, I usually have to buy the bare nessitities. i want to get my life back together , I need to loss some pounds to maybe help me feel alittle better about my self, so here I go , wish me luck, and wish me luck. emoticon

Hi folks. I'm a 55 almost life long vegan that somehow managed to fall into a sedentary rut of junky food and little to no exercise. After a few health scares this past year, I've resolved to get my life and my health in order and start doing something proactive. I've been following the Eat to Live program and shed 7 pounds so far with about 20 more to go and have been trying to incorporate different kinds of exercise into my life with varying success. I'm hoping being part of a larger community like this one will help provide the motivation I need to keep going. I'm looking forward to hanging with y'all. emoticon

Hello, I'm rejoining Spark People. I had previously started last spring and lasted a couple weeks. I'm committed to sticking with it and finally seeing myself overcome my weightloss challenge and triumph. I'm a 51 year old grandma, widowed for 13 years. Happily living alone and loving life ... Thanks for the welcome. You are absolutely correct about fitness being a series of lifestyle changes. I took a 10 minute/day fitness challenge which has been successful because, with the exception of one day, the 10 minutes became much longer. It has been a positive week for me. I am looking forward to tomorrow's weigh in.

Hello. I joined SP this past weekend for the second time. Did not stay with it very long last year though. I have 16 lbs to lose (again, having lost it once at Weight Watchers). I work full time and have am rainign a teen alone. Needless to day, I am very tired by the end of the day, so keeping up with exercising is important. That's about it! Glad to be onboard.

This is the first time I've tried this, so here goes: My name's Ted, I live in the High Desert, somewhere between L.A. and Vegas, been involved with Sparkpeople since the beginning of July, 2010. Hello everyone! I have just discovered Sparkpeople and think this is just what I've been needing to help support my efforts in getting back in shape. I have been in and out of shape many times but now that I am in my mid 50's it seems much more difficult to trim down and I am at an all time high (5'4" and 157)! I think it's a combination of many things, age, activity (or lack of), Hormone Replacement Therapy, past yo yo dieting and my love of cheese puffs and chocolate!!! At any rate, my future starts now and I would love any support and if I can help anyone else, I would be thrilled!!

Howdy, I'm a 57 yr old grandma of 2 precious boys. In these horrible economic times, I find myself unemployed. I have been for almost a year. I am a teacher by profession. I have just "blossomed" with weight-too much-on my 5'1" small frame. Hello, I am new to SP. I find SP a bit busy and not that user friendly. However, as with everything new, it takes getting use to. I use Lose-it.com on my iPhone to track my calories and I like it. The exception is that only iPhone or iPod owners can use it. My sister turned me on to SP, so here I am. emoticon

Hi i am at it again! I really haven't been good especially exercising because we have been traveling. we are full time RV'ers so I never know if I will find a good place to exercise. As a result I gained two pounds and am mad. So Here i go gain tracking my food and this time i am going to work Harder!i STILL haven't figured out how to post my weight underneath my message. Help

Here I go again, I think I've been all over. Still not sure what I am doing. I am 62, live in Louisiana, have 5 grandchildren. Just tired of this excess fat around my belly, and the 10 pounds I lost when I quite smoking. I've allways had a pot, just have more of it. I do alot of walking at my job, probabley couple miles a day. I work for Sam's, and am a supervisor, over the cashiers, so no sitting down for me. I'm really excited, knowing I'm not alone in all of this. It sure does help to have the support, and be able to give support. Thank you for welcoming me in. Monika

Hi, my name is Ann and I turned 53 recently. I am having a hard time accepting being in my 50's but it is what it is. Anyway, don't get fooled by my username. I don't want to be size 0 but the name was available so I took it. When I was in High School, I weighed 103 pounds and even then I was a size 5/6, so I don't think at my age I could get lower than a 6. I am about 3 sizes above that right now and 40 pounds. I am hoping to get a new job soon. My children are in their mid to late teens, as I started my family later in life. My knees are a problem and I am not very flexible, but I do like to exercise...just limited in what I can do now. Just wanted to say hi and hope I make some friends here.

I've been pretty active most of my life, but gained weight in my late forties. I was very close to 200 in 2003. Lost 36 pounds that year and have kept it off. I'd like to move another fifteen now. NOW! Like - by Valentine's Day. I have started logging my food daily on this site. My plan is to continue doing that every freakin day till Feb 14th. I start tomorrow night volunteering at the gym, which gives me free use of it. So, the plan is to go in 3 times a week to work out and jog on the Treadmill.
I usually do core exercises in the morning before my shower, and power walk between 20 and 30 min at the noon hour during the work week. So, if I can keep the eating clean I 'should' be good to go.
Now, if I can just remember to do these things ...

First time posting. Have lost 60 pounds since December 18, 2009! Have 3 more to go. Up to 3+ miles on treadmill everyday, and 40 minutes of exercises every night. Finally seeing my muffin tops disappearing!!

You are right it does take time to set everything up, your meals and your exercise but it is all worth it and very interesting as well. I spend time learning different things on this site that I never knew before and never thought off. Hang in there we can all do this.

Hello everyone, I have been trying to lose weight for several yeas now and have been unsuccessful. My daughters friend found this site and introduced it to her and she introduced it to me. I have been doing this site since 9/11/10 and I am so excited. I am looking forward to losing about 13 lbs by my birthday of 11/19. I have severe COPD and it is hard to do some things and having extra weight makes it even harder. I live in a small town in Texas out in the country. I have seven grandchildren who I enjoy spending time with. I am very involved in church and activities with my grandchildren and family. I am presently attending CTU Online for my masters degree in accounting and will graduate in March 2011. My goal is to lose the weight and to eat healthy and live a healthier life style. I am also hoping that my family will follow me and eat healthy as well. That would be the ultimate reward. emoticon
