Starting over...again! First a mini-sob story...a couple of years ago I was at my lightest, fastest, and leanest ever. Slowly I started to slide and now I'm basically back to the beginning BUT I've found a great place to get all the support I need. I've enjoyed reading the stories here and I feel right at home. I'm a devoted wife and mom of two teenage girls, work full time, serve on a community health center board, and love the mountains! emoticon

Hi, I'm Sanni and I'd like to lose about 15 lb or so. I am new here and sort of trying to figure out how to get started. I am already eating pretty healthy (except for a serious sweet tooth), but need to work on drinking more water and less coffee.

Hi! I am 48 years old and want to lose about 20 lbs. I exercise regularly but my problem is family and holiday get-togethers and all the food that goes along with them! My daughter is getting married in June and I would like to look as good as I possibly can. I'm hoping SparkPeople will help keep me on track and stay focused.

WOW!
I am 41 and looking to lose around 20-25 pounds. Have been a daily exerciser for 15 years, but need to keep better track of my food. Have had thyroid problems in the past, wondering if they are plaqing me again. I will keep track of food for a month and see what happens. Have 5 busy kids and a busy church job. . .

I'm not actually a new member, but it's been a while. Hopefully, I can keep this up again. I had to quit working out because my knees hurt so bad that I couldn't do anything. I have slowed down my walks from a 15 min. mile to a 30 min. mile and so far so good. I still can't get on my exercise ball though.

Hello All! I'm a married mother of 2. I know what you need to do to lose weight I just can't seem to do it! I need to lose 25 lbs. Man, how did that happen? I work out plenty but LOVE sugar. Dr. Oz said chocolate stimulates the same chemicals in your brain as crack. It sure does for me!! I'm going to start writing down everything I eat...even if it's bad. I WILL lose this by May 25!

Hey guys--I am a married mother of 3. My weight has been up and down recently, but mostly up. I need to get serious about what I eat and I need to get on the treadmill every day. I have set a goal of 45 mintues every day. I have 23 pounds to lose. I was down where I wanted to be 18 months ago, but I slowly let my weight creep back up. The reason..not tracking what I eat and not doing cardio on a regular basis. That stops today!

emoticon Hi Everyone! WOW what a shock...this morning I was going thru my mail and opened the one from this group. Not really looking so early in the morning, I thought it was from the "40 somethings with 25-49 pounds to lose" group that I belong(ed) to. What a shock to realize that I had fallen low enough to make myself eligible for this group! emoticon . I'm Snoopy Dancing all over my living room!!

Hi, my name is Sally. I am 45 years old, two children, 10 and 8. I want desperately to lose 20 pounds. I lost 40 pounds 12 years ago on Weight Watchers and, I recall that experience as being work... but surprisingly "easy" (that is really not the correct word.. but I can't think of a better one right now)... of course I didn't have kids, was 12 years younger, smoked and was studying for the bar exam which had be super disciplined in every aspect of my life. So, suffice it to say, I am struggling! I practice law out of my home and have access to food all day. I am very hopeful about sparkpeople.. although I have to admit... I am digging myself out of some very poor choices yesterday. I am here to tell you that ice skating for an hour with your kids in the frozen tundra does not even come close to making up for a Dunkin Donut muffin... can you believe that?

Hi, my name is Sue and I found this website yesterday. I'm 49 and aiming to lose around a stone. My eldest daughter is getting married in October so that's a huge incentive, as I was always small-framed and the extra weight is making me feel middle-aged. Which of course I am, but I'd like to feel middle-aged and slim! Good luck to everyone x

Hi. My name is Laurie. I am 48 years old and would like to lose 25 lbs. I was underweight for most of my life until I quit smoking 7 years ago. The weight has gradually crept up on me...I hate to exercise and love good food and wine. I work at home so I have easy access to food all day long. When I get bored in my office I make my way to the kitchen. I have been working out for about an hour a day with Comcast on-demand exercise or WII Active for the last few weeks. Haven't lost weight although my clothes are little looser. I am also going to start the C25k program next week with my daughter. Started it a few months ago but had to stop due to a knee injury.

Hi. My name is Kathi. I go by Kat. I just turned 45 (Feb 1) and am about 20 lbs more then what I care for. I am a stress eater. Finding it very hard to loose weight. No ambition to work out. My husband does P90X (One/One series - he already blew through the original). He bought me Turbo Jam. I do enjoy it, just no ambition to do it.
I have the every day stresses of family life, unemployment and finances. So came here to look for something/someone to help.
Mother of four children. Two grown and have their own kids now, and two still at home. Boy 10 and girl 13. Love being a grandma. Love being a mom. And love being a housewife. Just wish it paid to do all that!

Hi, my name is Dee. I love sports and activity; however, I'm unable to get my body back since I had my 5th child, 3 back surgeries, and quit smoking. I am 42, soon to be 43. My goal is to lose 23 pounds before summer. I refuse to wear a swimsuit like this. Everyone says I carry me weight well, but I feel otherwise. I am beginning to think losing is impossible. I'm active, eat little, yet gain weight. Any ideas?

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I've been around the website for a couple of weeks now checking out the nutrition and fitness pages. I'm pretty regular at exercising but not as good at watching what I eat. My son is getting married July 3rd so that is my weight loss target date. I'd like to lose 10-15 pounds.

Blessings,

Karen

karen6319, my motivation is thinking about how I'll look this summer when I put shorts on. I love this program but the most important part of it is tracking your food intake. That's a good place to start. There's plenty of people here that can keep us motivated. Let me know if I can help you.

Hang in there LBMZAG, and get excited - today's the first day of the rest of your life, and this site will help you build some great habits. It's not a diet, it's a course in learning how to live well! Good luck! emoticon

Of course, i'm only a week into the program, so perahps I'm not the best one to be giving advice - although lost 4 lbs this week and I'm pumped! Don't plan on loosing that much each week but it was a real surprise!

Like Patricia, I read the article in Good Housekeeping and was encouraged to try the website. I'm 45, active but love food. I lost 20 lbs a couple of years ago and managed to keep it off but wanted to loose an additional 15. Instead over the holidays I gained 8 so time to get motivated again. I find the food tracking takes time but really makes you think about what you put in your mouth. Good luck to all of us.

Hi everyone!
I'm in the same spot as most of you, NJAMMOM you're the first post I read and I can relate completely!

I'm really grateful for this forum/page in particular because I REALLY thought there had to be something more than just my age, babies, etc that would slow my metabolism down so much. I do have some other health factors such as hypo thyroidism and iron deficiency anemia that was diagnosed last year but all of that is under control.

Lack of drive and determination is the bigger problem I think.

Thanks for listening and I'll take any feedback!

I just read about this site in Good Housekeeping magazine. I have never posted on a site ever - I'm a lurker! But I am going to give this a try. I think this is a good team for me because I am on the upper half of 40 something and I want to lose 15 pounds. I have been wanting to lose 15 pounds for years. I lose 5, gain 5, lose 5...you get the picture!

Hi everyone, I'm 43, and am just slightly over a healthy weight for my height. I would like to lose 20 lbs, but would settle for 15 if I could maintain it. I already exercise pretty often, and eat healthy foods... just too many of them. :) So... my best friend recommended this site and here I am. I love it so far, and in four days I've lost two pounds, probably just from paying attention! Thanks for being here and for being encouraging.
Also, I'm wondering how you get one of those little measuring tapes across the bottom of your messages showing your progress?

I'm new to this group and your post caught my attention. I have about 15 lbs. to lose. Lost it last spring and was at my "happy weight" then gained all back plus a few this winter. I have contemplated training for a 1/2 marathon to have a fitness goal. Have you done this before. Any advice? Thanks!

Hello! I'm getting married in 2 months! I've tried since August to lose 20 lbs so I will look good on my wedding day! The scale has barely budged (I've lost maybe 3 lbs)! I'm eating 1200-1400 calories, but I am hungry *all* the time! People even comment, as my stomach growls, "Are you hungry?" I say, "I have a dress that has to fit." And I work out every day...step aerobics, running, stairmachine, turbo-kick. I'll settle for losing 15 pounds at this point. I'm hoping I can get some great tips at this site for getting out of the plateau I'm in!!!

Hi everyone. I managed to lose 25 pounds on NutriSystem a year and a half ago but promptly gained it all back over last winter (plus a 2 week vacay in Florida). I'm hoping to have do better this time and learn the habits to keep it off. My BF told me I was too thin after NutriSystem so I've added a few pounds to my goal weight this time. I'm 41, been living with my boyfriend for over 3 years now, and his 19 year old daughter lives with us (she graduates HS in June). I work two jobs and frequently can't find the time to plan my meals ahead so I end up eating whatever's handy.

Try not. Do or do not, there is no try.... Yoda
