So glad you are with us again! I retired this year from my art teaching position too. I agree, just in time!! I hear all kinds of horror stories from those that are still working. We also have been doing home improvements since the days that Covid shut everything down. We replaced floors in every room, except our bedroom, hallway, and formal living/dining. Next we will replace the carpet in those rooms. It will be like having a brand new home. After that, I have to put everything back.... I am SOOOO NOT looking forward to all of that!!

Anyway, we have a lot in common! Welcome back!!

Hi. I live in southwest Georgia. I have been a member of this team before. I am a retired public education art teacher. I retired at the end of the school year 2019. Boy, with 2020 being the way it is, I quit teaching just at the right time. Of course, I love art. I have not had time to get back into my art, but I will. There are a lot of projects I am getting done around home...repainting rooms, etc. We are adding a bathroom and that is taking lots of time because we are doing the interior work ourselves. I also started keeping chickens. (love my chickens). I am gardening more. I love music, art, gardening, reading. I am also very involved with my church.

back again and again. Determined that life will be healthier from now on. I joined Weight Watchers....seems like paying helps me to be more determined to keep with it. I have lost almost 20 pounds so far in 4 weeks.

I am a Stay at Home Mom with three kids and I live in Texas. I love Music , photography, and Art. I play in some local orchestras and love to paint my house in the summer. I have been a member of Spark since 2010 and I lost over 30 pounds then. But now.... I have gained it all back over a period of 4 years and for the last 2 years I have been trying to do it by myself. I figured if I joined a team or 2, I would be more encouraged to stick with it. I love to paint on canvas and my kid's walls. I am okay as an artist but love the peacefulness (and at times, obsession) about it so I keep at it.
I hope to get to know all of you over time and we can encourage each other.

You sound so much like me! I started as a teacher later too. I was 39 and now I am working to get 25 -30 years under my belt. I am definitely thinking about retirement! Although the students tend to enjoy art classes, they still aren't keen on working emoticon . So there are times I really think about retiring!!

I keep creative, but there isn't much outlet where I live for exhibiting or selling my work. So I have stacks of it!

I have been a member of Spark since 2010..... I did lose some weight and have been able to keep it off, but I have miles to go.

I am sorry to hear of the tragedy in your family. I pray that you will find comfort and strength from the support of our team. Again welcome.

I am 62 years old and a high school art teacher. I have been with SparkPeople since Dec. of 2012. I lost almost 50 pounds and then a tragedy in my family got me off course. I gained some of my weight back, but have been back to tracking and losing since June. I am about 10 pounds away from my previous loss level....then it will be on to the finish.
As for art, I was a commercial artist (worked in ad agencies, print shops, newspapers) for 25 years and then felt the need for a change. I started teaching at age 46 and I love it. I will retire in about 3-1/2 years, when I am 66. I have not done a lot of my own art in a while, but want to get back to that. I love to draw people most. I like water color, but want to really dig into painting more. We are building in the second floor of our barn for me to have a small art studio...a place where all my things can be out and handy for creating.

I'm Alice -- a 50 YO woman living in the Minneapolis area. I've been hanging out with SparkPeople for about two months now & loving it. In the past, I've really enjoyed art journaling but have fallen away from it the past few months. I'm hoping to express my weight loss journey in an art journal format. I think joining this group & its goals will help.

It's good to know that there's a place where we can encourage one anothers' creative gifts.

Hi Jo! Welcome to the team. Any kind of creative outlet is art! there are people who play instruments and others that sing and none of them draw! This team is about all kinds of art (and crafts too).

I am a full fledged artist, I paint, draw and teach art. I love creating. I also play piano, but no one would ask me to sing!! emoticon

I hope you join in with some blog posts or add something to the message boards. again, welcome to the team

I'm Jo, I work at drawing. I doodle more than I get really artistic. I also take pictures and some of them turn out pretty good. Both could be better, Both could be worse. Both make me happy when they work out right. emoticon

Thanks so much for the advice. I think I will give that a try. Having the two pictures in progress was not something I had considered. I am in the process of setting up work space so I will make sure I include a way to have both going at once.

I am finding that it helps to paint, draw or do something with my hands rather than eat. Now I just need to add the exercise daily and I might find out that I am starting new habits that will last a life time and keep the weight down.

I will ask questions when I run into something I do not understand and i really appreciate the offer.

I paint in oils, watercolor and acrylics.... and tempera, encaustics, etc.

I encourage you to try oils, I have students that try them for the 1st time and absolutely love them, but I have other students that hate them. You won't know until you try them. I have the new water soluble oils, they are much nicer to clean up. When they are dry they are just like regular oils and are no longer water soluble.

My suggestion is to have 2 pieces to work on. An oil painting to start and set aside when drying and watercolors to work on during that time. You can never have too many projects!!

If you have any questions I would love to give you pointers.

We are glad you joined our group!

Hello, so glad to see this team.

I love drawing and have seen a great improvement over the last year. However, I have also gained 10 lbs over the last year because I stopped caring about what I ate. I want to become more accountable for what I put in my body and increase my exercise as well. Along with that I am considering swtiching from just pencil work (black and white) to watercolor, which I have the equipment for and oils which I can borrow equipment for. I am not sure I will enjoy oils very much because I want it dry right away. Anyone advice would be appreciated.

Hello all. My name is Meta, I will be 62 in February and I have been a diversified artist for several decades. If I see something new, I want to try it. I love painting and potting, but I also work with fiber crafts. My work is very simplistic. I love detail, but get on a kick and have to let it run its course. I went and collected supplies for felting projects today and will be learning how to make miniature animals. This will be fun..maybe not high art...but fun.
when painting I prefer portraits. . I only have one in my SP gallery...but hope to post more soon. Be blessed all and keep the inspiration flowing.

Keep Sparkin'!

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers Philemon 1:3,4

Hello everyone, I am an artist and have been for many many years. I teach acrylic & porcelain painting. Have a painting book in the works, also write poetry. I have been a Christian all of my life experiencing some pretty tough things. I just experienced the most amazing miracle and am just "full of God" at this time. I had a kidney transplant on November 21st of 1990. The kidney failed on my birthday (July 31) this summer, was on dialysis the next day. I live in rural Wisconsin and was having to go to dialysis 120 miles round trip every other day. The cost was going to be at least $600 a month!! My small town of 740 people came together and had volunteers drive me for each appointment for 4-1/2 months. A man called me on the phone and said "I understand you need a kidney and I would like to give you one of mine"!! It turned out that one of my students was asking for a type "O" kidney for me at church, and this was the minister. We didn't know each other. Anyway, we had the transplant on Nov 14th and I am recuperating as I type. I am excited to get this last chapter of my life going and get involved with this group. God does answer prayers!!

Thanking God everyday!

I would love to see someone about the emotional side of my eating!! I know I have a lot of baggage in there!! I went to WW when I was in my 30's, got to goal, was asked to model for them and freaked out! I immediately gained all my weight back! Something in my brain needs help!

I am glad you joined the team and look forward to becoming friends.

Hello Christian Artists Team :) I'm an artist and a Christian but my art work isn't really christian themed... I'm not that ambitious yet... but as I improve my skill I'd like to create art that uplifts and inspires others. For now I paint what I love... the people in my life, pets, flowers, nature, etc. I don't paint as often as I should... it's a balancing act with all the duties in my life and sometimes my talents have to take a back seat. "To everything a season and a time to every purpose under heaven" right? I believe my time to focus on painting will come and in the mean time I work on it every so often. My favorite mediums are pencil and acrylic. I'm too impatient for oil ;) I'll post a few of my works on my SparkPage to share.

I'm here because I need to lose weight and I need help. I was fit as a child and adolescent but quickly gained weight as a newlywed after I became less active and developed some bad eating habits... no more of mom's healthy cooking :/ I began to eat to deal with stress, loneliness, boredom, sadness, anxiety and any other negative emotions. My weight increased to an all-time high of 280 over the next 20 years and for the last 3 years I've been yo-yo-ing between about 245 & 270. I'm attending therapy for my emotional eating and I'm hoping this site will give me the extra support and accountability I need to stick with it!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I look forward to meeting other Christian Artists, seeing your work, and sharing this weight-loss/health journey! God Bless!

Good Evening LintPicker,

Thanks for the warm welcome! Yes I found a lot of support groups today along with this Team/Group.

Yes I am from Michigan. You know you do have the ocean lol. I would love to take some pictures of the Ocean but I am not willing to travel to Oregon at this time lol. I have not been there since I was nine years old but I would love to go again sometime when I am willing to travel that far lol.

Thank you again! I will be here as often as I can be ok.

Hi and welcome to our team!! There is all kinds of support here in Sparkpeople. And of course I think our team is pretty awesome!
It sounds like you live in the east, I live in Ca. (not many lakes, waterfalls, trees, here in the high desert!) I like photography as well, but my main focus is painting and printmaking. I teach high school art, it is a whole lot of fun!!
Losing weight is difficult and even more so when you have health issues. But our team is a great place to post to the message boards, get support, and just vent sometimes!!

Welcome!

Good Afternoon Christina,

It is so nice to meet you! Thank you! I am so glad I found you also! Yes the graphics are very fun and interesting I have two of them on my SparkPage lol. I will try to change them once a month lol. That is ok Rob and I do not have a very expensive camera ourselves lol. Photography is always fun for me due to we always go to waterfalls, rapids, lakes, rivers and it is especially fun during the fall because we go take photographs of the fall scenery lol. I know the poetry has gotten away from me also lol.

Yes with the low carb diet is all about learning proportion sizes and enjoy all things in moderation. I cannot seem to stay away from the noodles though so I just need to have smaller serving sizes of it again.

Thank you! I know that you can achieve your goals also. I will try to post as often as possilble here ok.

Hi Shar, welcome to Christian Artists Team. So glad you found us! I don't know too much about graphic design but it sounds like it could be fun and very interesting I just got interested in photography. I don't have an expensive camera but I am enjoying taking pictures. I write poetry also although I have let it slip for quite some time.
I would find the low carb diet very hard to stick to. I love my carbs emoticon . What I have learned is portion control and enjoy all things in moderation.
I know you can do this and achieve your goals just keep emoticon ! Hope to see you posting often on Christian Artists!

My name is Sharmelle but you may call me by my nick name Shar if you would like. I am a graphic artist, graphic designer, and photographer. And I write poetry sometimes. So I a constantly sitting down at my computer and I do get out to take photographs and do other things.

I also have what you call familial spastic paraparesis which will have me in a wheal chair later on in my life I hope. I walk slow and cannot do much for exercise due to this. I can only do sit down upper exercises and some walking at this time.

So I am trying to change my diet. I was on a low carb diet but than I stopped and I am having a hard time getting back on track with this diet. To me it is also trying to have smaller serving sizes at meal times but I am having trouble getting back on track with it all.

Hi christina, thank you for the message. I had to laugh I just bought way too many flowering plants and was thinking the same thing . I have only taken care of half of them, I hope to do more on Thursday for tomorrow is my grand daughters birthday party (she is 24). My granddaughter lives with me .and we take care of each other. She has invited friends and co workers over to celebrate . This means lots of food and drink . I'll have to be very careful and mind full, as I am going to be cooking most of the food.
Take care and and enjoy your garden
I'm glad I found this post to. God bless you

Hello Conversion1 (Gloria). welcome to our team! So sorry I missed your posts. I have not been on much these last few days. Nothing but rain here and I am working in my greenhouse and wondering what I am going to do withall these plants that need to go into the ground.
I am not an "artsy" gal. But I do enjoy art. Again welcome to the team, so happy that you have found us. Please forgive me for missing you. emoticon

my pleasure! Believe me, I need spark as well! I lost about 65 pounds and then gained much of it back. I still have kept off about 25 pounds. Changing habits is the hardest thing to do. I now drink more water, but not a lot more. I eat healthier, but still tend to go back for seconds. I am a work in progress just like everyone else here. I have found that by continuing with spark I am more likely to eat better and stay healthier, so here I will remain. I am glad you have seen some changes in your health as well. It sounds like they have been big changes even if the weight is slow moving. I am glad you are here with us!

God bless you too!

hi! i was out all day, so no progress in the art area. but i have to say i remain faithful to my spark commitment i track and do coach pages every day. it is becoming second nature to me now , i have lost so slowly you would hardly notice. i would probably quit if i didn't feel so good in the rest of my life. the pluses out weigh the negative, if there is a negative. before sparks i could barely walk, i would not have considered doing art not to mention organizing my studio. i have lost 25 pounds, only 7 have been since joining spark. i'm so happy to be here. this is the right place for me. i've only posted a few messages, i'm getting braver if not better at it. thank you for your posts and for responding to me. God bless you.

yes, an artist that has to clean up her studio (like me!) I am not sure I will be able to get anything done by next week, but I will give it a try. I just won't go into my studio, I may never make it back out!! too messy!

I know how that happens! I work full time teaching and my art room is such a mess! I am looking toward summer as a time for cleaning out those rooms and getting things in better order. I haven't done much art lately because of all the other demands in my life. We even have a great challenge for this month, so I guess I should get busy! I only have 2 weeks left of school and then summer vacation.

hi, my name is gloria. i am 72 and love art especially designing rooms, furniture etc. i love to paint in watercolor, oils and pastel. i love God and the word . i joined these challenges because i have fallen way behind in doing what i love, and my god given talent. i need to be accountable and i think this is a perfect way. [ an answer to prayer.] reading the bible and drinking 8 glasses of water are things i do now but i still need to have accountability there too. it will be good to share Gods blessings with other christian artists.thank you for your e-mails.i'am finally ready to do this. God bless you.

Hello Christina!! We love all kinds of creativity. God has given us so many gifts.
I like embroidery too, but haven't really done much lately. I have been crocheting baby items and painting too.
We would like to see some of your cakes, I bet they are beautiful. You could also show us some of your photography.
I am still working (although off today since I am home sick). I teach high school art classes. It really is a wonderful job. I like working with the kids and I love art, so it is a winning combination.
I hope you enjoy our team and participate in blogging and the message boards. Welcome and God bless!

Hello! My name is Christina. I have been on Sparks for quite sometime but just found this site this morning. It looked so interesting that I just had to join you! I live near the beautiful bay of Fundy. I taught in Christian school (A.C.E. program) starting with the first graders. Love those little ones! Ended with being principal for two years. Also worked in the food industry several years as chef and then in bakery. I was the cake decorator plus pastries. I am retired but still do a few cake orders. I love creating 3D cakes. Always wished that I could draw so that I could draw and paint on my cakes instead of tracing. Goodness I can't even draw a stickman! emoticon I love to write and took a course with the Institute of Children's Literature. I have written many plays and puppet scripts for our church. Also poetry and short articles as the Lord had led me to write. Now, since retirement I enjoy cross stitch and embroidery. I have arthritis in my hands so I have to be careful and not over do it using a small needle. I love the outdoors, and so as of this winter I have found an interest in photography as well.

Awesome! We would love to see some of your work. If you would like to share you can post a photo.
I have been married 37 years and am also married to a pastor. We are both still very active at our jobs and don't see things slowing any time soon. I also have a few blogs, a web site and other things that fill my time.
Welcome and thanks for sharing!

I am married, 40 yrs, with two married daughters and 4 granddaughters, who all love to come to Grammy's and paint, except the little one who is only 18 mos...but I'll get her painting soon! My husband is retired from the ministry where we served almost 35 years. I am an Avon Rep as well. (if you want to check out my website you can here: http://ktaylor7579.avonrepresentative.com/

I look forward to not having to deal with all the politics, parents and poor performing students, but I love what I teach and I love seeing the kids learn. I am fairly sure that when I retire I will continue to teach at the local art center or have classes on my own. That would probably supply a little income and give me the same happiness.
9 more years.......

Retirement is great and no stress. My blood pressure went way down and I am feeling so much better these days. Energy to spare! I sub now and then for a charter school in Sandpoint, ID gr. 6-12 although I try to limit that. (My husband is IT guy there). Enjoying my freedom and lack of schedule. It is nice to exercise when I want to instead of after work! emoticon

Well, I started out teaching 2nd grade, then went to 7th grade Lang. Arts and Math, then went to 5th grade, followed by 1st, Multiage 3-4, 1st again, and last multiage 1-2. I was also a Title 1 Reading Specialist for 8 years, headed the 504 team in our building, and was head teacher for 17 years. I've had a diverse experience by my choice as I get bored teaching the same stuff year after year. I also believed for me that different grade levels helped me to see where I wanted the kids to be down the line.

What did you teach? I taught sixth graders for about 13 years, 2nd grade for one horrible year ( I guess I don't do well with the littler ones) and now high school art for the last 4 years. I will probably work until I am close to 65 so I can get 25 years in. (I started later)

We all are really happy that you joined with us! We look forward to seeing your work!

You can visit my SparkPage and find out more about me. I also have links to three other blogs I write now and then. I have lived in Bonners Ferry, Idaho for 4 years having come from Lewiston, Idaho. I just retired from teaching this year and I am having fun rediscovering my talents. I started up my art endeavors once more with painting three panel murals for all of my grandkids (5) along with a few sketches and collages.

I am pleased that I have been consistent with nutritional tracking and exercising everyday. It seems that losing weight is quite hard for me at this age, but I am slowly losing inches which is encouraging. It is great to read about others' struggles and successes.

Here is one of the murals I did for Noah Ryan, out newest grandson (now 6 mos. old!)

That is great that you paint on all kinds of surfaces! hopefully you can put them in a local craft show and make a few more dollars to continue funding the things you love. I am sorry that you couldn't persue your passion before. My husband is totally supportive, maybe it is because he has so many hobbies himself!! I am glad you joined with us, it is good to be friends! I look forward to seeing some of your projects.

I will be 62 before this year is out. I have 3 grown children , 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons. I have been happily single for 15 years. I accepted Christ as my personal savior when I was 11 years old. My brother is a preacher in Tenn. God, has never failed me , but I am sorry to say I have failed him at times . I hold on to his promises that he will never live us or forsake us.

I have loved Art since I was really little. I always took Art glasses in School then I got busy raising a family . My husband would complain about me buying art supplies and spending any of my time painting .....he was very controlling. After my divorce in 1993, I started painting again and doing craft type stuff. Since I was on a limited budget I started painting on my clay flower pots and loved it so much I continue it-sometimes I paint on canvas, wood or rocks.

Like you I didn't get the first name I choose -finally got my account opened then discovered we could still change it so I tried a few more that was turned down and settled on Here2GetFit which speaks for it self. LOL

I am 55, grandmother to 7 wonderful grandkids, married 36 years happily. I love the Lord with all my heart and praise him for calling me and saving me. I live in So. California, high desert. I love art and I love teaching! What a great career! I work with high school students, they can be a challenge! My husband is a bi-vocational pastor. He works for the post office and preaches.... delivering messages in both jobs!
My spark name was a result of frustration! I tried to get oneservant4him, my real name, my dog's name, my job description and so on.... I kept getting the message that the name had already been chosen. In frustration I said, I'm choosing Lintpicker! It helps to remind me that I am just a speck of dust in God's vast sea of light! and it reminds me that God picked me, just a little piece of dusty lint!
